I'm personally of the opinion that Bladewolf's DLC was a huge wasted opportunity. Instead of showing his VR Training, we could have seen him go on a rampage with Sam, or maybe shown him clearing out enemies that were ahead of Raiden during the Mexico or Denver sections. But also, an idea could be to have Bladewolf vs Armstrong be a purely stealth oriented battle. Bladewolf has to stalk through the base, searching for Armstrong and Metal Gear Excelsius. As the stage goes on, Raiden fights the Desperado soldiers, which keeps them distracted enough for Bladewolf sneak through the base virtually undetected. When he finds Armstrong, he decides to take the opportunity to get a cheap hunt kill on him. The O or B prompt appears, you hit it, and he leaps down, aiming his HF knife at Armstrong's chest... only for nanomachines to kick in and deflect the attack, and Armstrong reverses the hunt kill, punching Bladewolf into the crater Raiden finds him in later on.
IDK, for a DLC that didn't need to exist I thought it was pretty great. We got a new stealth-based boss fight and a bit more insight on how Bladewolf was viewed by the rest of Desperado. Plus that made me hate Mistrail so much! Which is good for a villian. The VR section was a bit too lengthy, but for what it's worth, I enjoyed it. Besides, it's kind-of funny how their super sophisticated realistic training mission involved platforming on giant untextured blocks, lol.
dracocrusher well, no it wasn't bad from a purely gameplay perspective. But the fact that half of it is spent going through VR missions when you could have been going through more relevant things is a bit of a bummer.
dracocrusher That's a fair point, and I'd definitely agree with you about how they handled the boss fight and Mistral's relationship with Blade Wolf. I think that they did both of those very well, and I enjoyed the overall experience. My main gripe with the DLC is that it limits itself to this one scenario. I feel like it could be more than just a prologue to R-01, what with all the times that Raiden and Blade Wolf separate during the story. I don't know if I'd necessarily want to play every level from his perspective, but I would like to find out, for example, what happened to him in the time it took for Raiden to sneak into the military base in R-07. We can imply that Armstrong beat him half to smithereens, but we don't know for sure, and we never get a true answer to how Blade Wolf knew that only Sam's blade would be enough to break through Armstrong's nanomachine defense. These are things that the DLC definitely could have addressed. Obviously, we can't hope for everything (because it is just a downloadable add-on to the story, after all), but I think it would have benefited from adding that. That said, I still really enjoyed the DLC for what it was. :)
I can never get over how well-used this song is in conveying Wolf's mindset. When we chronologically hear it first with Sam, Wolf's passions are ignited and his thoughts are altered by interacting with Sam. Wolf is considering a better life, maybe for the first time in his existence. In Wolf's own DLC, Hot Wind Blowing applies in equal measure to Blade Wolf and Khamsin, drawing a parallel with It Has To Be This Way. When Wolf and Raiden fight, the lyrics are not heard for the first two phases of the fight, reflecting that Wolf is beaten down by Desperado's treatment of him. The burning passion Sam ignited is all but snuffed out by what seems to be an inescapable reality of servitude. Only when the fight turns against him and termination seems likely do his lyrics kick in. If Wolf is going to die, he might as well admit to himself what he really wants life to be like. What's it going to hurt now? The final time the theme plays, it has neither words nor music. Wolf has surpassed Desperado, exercised his autonomy, and while things may not be perfect, he's his own Master now, and that counts for a lot to Blade Wolf.
Hearing "Spirit of the Wolf" always makes me emotional because it means Blade Wolf is finally free. There's no need for words, barely any music, because the lyrics only expressed his yearning for liberation; now, only a bellowing howl remains, signaling Wolf's newfound autonomy.

I think you meant to type "locust swarm," but _"locus swarm"_ does still fit. A locus is a specific point or place, so a locus swarm would be an unbearable mass of specific points and places, all with their own reasons to be considered "specific;" all with their own histories and people. People from all different loci have come here, back to the story and messages of this game, because almost everyone alive today can relate to its messages.
Metal Gear Rising has one of the best soundtracks ever created. And I love how that even though the game's plot barely scratches the surface of the bosses' personalities, they are still very compelling and well defined. Part of that is because of how their musical themes convey so much about them.

That opening up to 1:45 is seriously downright sexually arousing to any fan on this game. If I had to rate this song, it'd be a 1000000000000x10^6/5. It's just so goddamn awesome.
Blade Wolf: "RAIDEN!" Raiden: "Shit." Blade Wolf: "Begin playback." Jetstream Sam: "Ohohohohohohohohohoooohoooho. What a hero! Is this all the Ripper has to offer?" Raiden: "Sam?" Jetstream Sam: "What happened to those fiery words of yours? Show me what you really believe in!! Oooi, my ass." Armstrong: "Heh. Even dead that guy has a pain in his ass. Memes aside The theme knows how to build up interest and tension It starts out gradually with the clean guitars Then the drums along with the lead kick in heading into the intro Then the screams kick in of an intellect oppressed into following orders Then the theme itself starts It's a well crafted piece
I like the way they handle AI. It is not superior to a human, just different. It doesn't want to kill everything, but to evolve and understand the world. Wolf is very much like a child with great intelligence, pushed by curiosity, and growing alongside humans.

DonDrioVerion Yeah, that's no problem! I'm glad to have inspired you to try this for yourself. :D This is the video I used to rip the acoustic intro: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance OST I'm My Own Master Now ACOUSTIC INTRO (The rest of that one isn't great for the vocal version of the song, though, so you'll need to rip the vocal version separately and just cut it in after the acoustic intro.) I've actually been meaning to make a tutorial for mixing these tracks, so I'll probably do that fairly soon, lol. Until then, good luck! :)
Blade wolf: "now if you'll excuse me Raiden, but I will hold off Armstrong until this sword can be released." Raiden: "No! You're barely alive as is! You won't last against Armstrong!" Armstrong: "Better listen to your master, mutt." (Blade wolf steps forward at 1:33) "My fuel cells have enough reserves to last until the blade releases. These parameters...." {Visor closes with a Gundam sound effect} *"ARE ACCEPTABLE."* Armstrong: "HAHAHA! Let's go then, fido!"
Totally agree with ya. When you first play through the game, and the first boss is a friggin giant mech, and then the music kicks in, there are no words to describe the epicness of it.
I hate how it took 8 years later for me to actually appreciate this song in the game. The official I say is criminally underrated (probably because of people like me sleeping on it), but this version just kicks ass!
Blade Wolf is such an underrated character tbh. We need more arts and such about him. Honestly he's one of my favourite characters from Metal Gear as a whole

*Armstrong:* Damned mutt...time to put you down. *Wolf:* Negative. *Armstrong:* ...Excuse you? *Wolf:* Tactical analysis of your combat abilities is conclusive. Even with nanomachine augmentation, you lack any means of successfully terminating me. Probability of your success in direct combat: Zero percent. *Armstrong:* Hmph! Arrogant little fuck, aren't ya? *Wolf:* Perhaps. But to paraphrase Raiden in this situation... _Let's go, jackass._ (over codec) *Raiden:* Wolf...you... *Wolf:* Stay down and recover, Raiden. The lock will open in 278 seconds. I will do what I can to keep the Senator occupied until that time. *Raiden:* Then, all that stuff you just said... *Wolf:* All data given to the Senator was false. Probability of my lasting until the lock is released: Approximately 2.8 percent. *Raiden:* Are you crazy!? I won't let you die on me like this! *Wolf:* That is not your decision to make. Once my master's blade is released, whether I still function or not is irrelevant. My mission will be complete. All that matters after that, is that you finish yours. Farewell, Raiden. *Raiden:* Wolf--! (codec cuts off)

Raiden: "Wolf?"
Wolf: "Begin Playback:"
Alright, I think we're done here...
Raiden.
Wolf!

_Heh. Two years I've been working towards this... and on the last day, blondie has me doubting the whole thing._
_We'll leave it up to fate then, shall we, Wolfie? A duel to the death, may the best man win._
Sam?!
_I cut him down, and that's that. Back to our regularly scheduled international incident. Heh heh..._
_But if he beats me... If I die here... the lock on my blade will disable after a couple hours._
_What happens after that... is up to you, Wolfie._
Hmph. Even dead, that guy is still a pain in my ass.

Well, go ahead.
But make no mistake, fido. When I'm done with him, you're next.

Locked up in chains

The theme knows how to build up interest and tension
It starts out gradually with the clean guitars
Then the drums along with the lead kick in heading into the intro
Then the screams kick in of an intellect oppressed into following orders
Then the theme itself starts
It's a well crafted piece
Well, monsoon did say that memes are the DNA of the soul
I like the way they handle AI. It is not superior to a human, just different. It doesn't want to kill everything, but to evolve and understand the world.
Wolf is very much like a child with great intelligence, pushed by curiosity, and growing alongside humans.

I was SO excited when I found a clean version of the acoustic intro without all of the sound effects, lol. I feel like it added some power and emphasis to the song that wouldn't be there without it.
Thanks! :)

DonDrioVerion Yeah, that's no problem! I'm glad to have inspired you to try this for yourself. :D
This is the video I used to rip the acoustic intro: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance OST I'm My Own Master Now ACOUSTIC INTRO (The rest of that one isn't great for the vocal version of the song, though, so you'll need to rip the vocal version separately and just cut it in after the acoustic intro.)
I've actually been meaning to make a tutorial for mixing these tracks, so I'll probably do that fairly soon, lol. Until then, good luck! :)
Forgot I even left a comment here lmao. Still godlike mix.

This is great. I'm so glad Bladewolf got his own campaign, even if he is rather limited in what he can do! This theme is great for him.
Blade Wolf is such an underrated character tbh. We need more arts and such about him. Honestly he's one of my favourite characters from Metal Gear as a whole
That intro is so freakin beautiful.

_Let's go, jackass._
(over codec)
*Raiden:* Wolf...you...
