If only these people knew "meme" is a legit scientific term used in psycology and that it refers to this very behavior they exhibit whenever they hear the word in an official work. Good grief, Monsoon was right, memes really did consume people.
@@rileymoore7025 It was never a matter of if, only when. (Internet culture is like those mantis infestations: swarm, consume, move on. Very few things are protected by obscurity enough to be spared from this...)
Every part of us that isn't primal is a meme, a composition of external influences comprising who we are. Comprising the superego. But just like the superego is not the self in isolation, the id is not the self either, and instead they work together to make up who we are. As the internet consumes endlessly and cycles ideas into a cultural typhoon, is it a perversion of the superego, an incessant need to feed the identity of the self, that is motivated by the primal force of the id? Or is this just the logical evolution of how we form ourselves in this new age of communication? I don't fucking know. I only think about these things because other people told me about them.
"Memetics" is a mostly discredited science, with many even labelling it pseudoscience. Most famously, trying to treat culture as if it worked like genetics is notoriously problematic because it's never been demonstrated that culture can actually act like or be transmitted like that. Don't act like it's "legitimate" science when it's dubious at best.
@@mythosinfinite6736 Nice way to argue that you're a powerless meat robot with no free will. Presuming that you can even say these things or muse on these things disproves your own claim.
I'm actually not very good at making song extensions, in spite of what this music playlist might make you think. When I have to copy/paste the same layers over and over again and line up transitions for the same piece of music more than a couple times in a row, my brain has a tendency to...lose interest, lol. That leads to errors in the extension which become really noticeable the more you listen to it. That said, there are quite a few extensions of The Stains of Time floating around RUclips (Kazuhira Miller's comes to mind immediately). I don't know if any of them mix the Instrumental/Vocal versions of the song like this one does, but there might be one or two somewhere in the search results. :)
On my opinion, Monsoon boss battle is the most epic part of MGR : Revengence. And that soundtrack! That baddass soundtrack, while you rip the shit out of him and than rip the shit out of his shit! Best feeling ever! MonoChromium, you have my respect for your great job with that theme! I like it!
Thanks, man! Glad you enjoyed it! And I definitely know the feeling, lol. They designed the boss fight with Monsoon to be very satisfying to finish, between the music and the QTE at the end. :)
I just wanted to take my final opportunity to say that these mixes have meant a lot to me. I have not been able to get any hardware capable of playing this game for the last three and a half years. Hearing actual dynamic versions of these tracks is preferable to the soundtrack versions, speaking as someone who cannot play the game. I honestly consider these to be superior to the vanilla tracks. This is also my son's favorite track, so he's especially pleased that you did a mix for Monsoon. Thanks, MonoChromium, from the both of us.
Ever time I play this mission part plus with Monsoon, the spark within me just hit me to kill Monsoon really so badly without showing him mercy during Jack the Ripper mode.
Yeah, man, I feel the same way. They definitely designed this part of the game around that mood, and it works really well to make you feel totally merciless and unforgiving. Great job on the designers' part. :)
Lol, I don't know how I should feel about that, considering how Monsoon was referring to the time when the Khmer Rouge were in power there in the game. Then again, I'm the one who made the reference, so...thanks...? xD

Monsoon is by far the most powerful boss in Metal Gear Rising and ill prove it. When you activate blade mode stuff goes slow, when ripper mode is activated and then (while ripper mode is still activated) you use blade mode you’ll use a special blade mode thats far slower time wise then regular (you can test this on ninja cat). His telekinesis(or whatever) is throwing several ton vehicles at mach 5. Not to mention his personal speed. Bosses like mistral will jump away from you, monsoon can jump away the fastest out of all the bosses while in ripper blade mode, this is to an insane degree. Not to mention his health, monsoon fights you in permanent ripper blade mode meaning your attacks deal double damage, that rivals even Armstrong’s health! Although if you account for the pattern of song’s being about bosses and the last song, it has to be this way being about raiden, then technically raiden is the strongest boss. No exact numbers tbh, im my own source.
I remember not parrying through out the whole game because i totally forgot about it until I reached this fight and got stuck on it. I got owned so many times. Then i remembered about parrying and tried it out. And I totally slaughtered him. Also awesome mix man. Keep up the good work.
CreditR01 lol you have not been video gaming often; making you have difficulties cutting with the analog stick Seriously though, I get it why it can be difficult to many, it's something that's recently introduced in gaming (or was it older before MGR?) and will take some getting used to. Sometimes, certain games requires dexterity and MGR, like many Metal Gear game, counts.
I noticed during the fight i got rocked by two huge orbs in the mass of salami limbs. I realized it was monsoons massive nuts. One of the only ones in canon to look at ripper mode and meet it head on with a smile.

@@samgafford2371 He wasn't even entirely wrong with his speech. People teach each other hate, greed and all that. Especially in the current times this becomes really clear. "A meme is an idea, behavior, or style that becomes a fad and spreads by means of imitation from person to person within a culture and often carries symbolic meaning representing a particular phenomenon or theme."
@@samgafford2371 Well he is mostly right in the things he says, though memetics aren't usually taken to the point of denying freedom of choice. You could technically say that since our personalities are the result of our experiences and things we've been exposed to all our "free" choices can be traced back to those experiences and are therefore, predetermined. However even if they are, it's not really productive to think about life like that. One thing it helps with is to counteract how easily we demonize people with disagree with or consider evil. We'd be just like them if we'd lived their lives. Monsoon's views on this are twisted to sheer apathy and nihilism due to the horrible things he's experienced in Phnom Penh. Who cares what you do with your life? There is no supreme "free-will" or a divine destiny. Since all your choices are pretty much premade for you due to your experiences you should feel no remorse or guilt. He's a bit "We live in a society" ish but he embraces it to a twisted extent rather than trying to poke holes in it to try and see it crumble.
I like how Monsoon’s dialogue at the end of the fight changes depending on how well you do. If you’re just doing ok, he has some more typical Monsoon line, but if you kick his ass hard enough he just screams “STOP IT!” before you zandatsu him.

This is incredibly well done, but there are a few opportunities in the beginning I would've taken. The original version's impact at 'and it will come, like a flood of rain' would've been very nice, but using it at the end of the vocal sequence like you did was very nice, as well.
They shape our will. They are the culture, they are everything we pass on. Expose someone to anger long enough, they will learn to hate. They become a carrier. Envy, greed, despair... All memes. All passed along.
I feel this song fit the mood Raiden was in at this point of the game. He had been trying to suppress the demon inside for years, but has failed. Maybe monsoon was wrong. If only these people knew "meme" is a legit scientific term used in psycology and that it refers to this very behavior they exhibit whenever they hear the word in an official work. Good grief, Monsoon was right, memes really did consume people.
How ironic. The term "meme" became a meme in and of itself.
Don't act like it's "legitimate" science when it's dubious at best.

could you extend this please? I would really like to listen to this for a longer duration.

Yeah, man, I feel the same way. They definitely designed this part of the game around that mood, and it works really well to make you feel totally merciless and unforgiving. Great job on the designers' part. :)
It also helps that Monsoon's attacks are just as fast and aggressive. Especially when he does his smoke thing.
He's a bit slower during the white phosphorus phases, to make up for no targeting.
It helps that Monsoon says different dialogue when you kill him based on how you play. He literally begs for mercy if you play how you describe

Monsoon is also the most fun boss to fight, next to Sam. In my opinion, of course.

MEMES Jack
