Breaking his shields off should have been HP% based, so once you finally break the final set of shields he is incredibly low, and when it looks like the battle is almost over he just starts rapidly regenerating health well beyond 100% so you enter into an endurance match with him constantly at full no matter how much you hit him, giving off the impression that he is as he claims, invincible; only for the regeneration to stop after about a minute and you can finally begin whittling him down.
that's bad from a game design perspective, people would just start assuming they were missing some mechanic when they see him constantly healing to 100%
I almost wish they had made a joke from one to the other. Like homage to the abridged version. like Sundowner calling Raiden a fuck mothering vampire for his grabbing of the electrolytes from soldiers.
I wish they used Sundowners shields pretty similarly to Monsoons whole taking himself apart gimmick where his shields would automatically block or parry Raiden's attacks which gives Sundowner an opening to begin his attack patterns while forcing the player to think about actually destroying his shields first. Give him an extra bit of health to lengthen the fight, some new attack patterns to vary the fight more, and uh boom. Fun fight. At least for me.
Yeah that'd be pretty cool. I actually enjoyed the og fight tbh and I figured out you had to cut the shields immediately after some voice lines from Boris pointing it out, it's a shame it's over so fast.
This is my favorite character in Metal Gear period, the actor and dialog gave Sundowner soo much damn soul. Even if it was a fucked up one. It was just soo damn fine.

I love the mixes MonoChromium does with the Metal Gear music, it has badass intros, then makes you appreciate the instrumental on the first half and the other half allows you to appreciate the full song with the vocals

Took me a good while to realize that Sundowner's shields are based off shogun armor plating. When it hit me, it added another layer of coolness to his overall design.
Yeah, that's part of the beauty of this game. Believe it or not, Rules of Nature, Dark Skies, A Soul Can't Be Cut and Return to Ashes all sound like Raiden.

I really wish the boss fight was more difficult and lasted longer. Sundowner is the co-leader of Desperado. It would’ve been perfect for him to be the final boss.
Sundowner gave me the most trouble out of all the Winds, weirdly enough. I never even got to see his giant pole phase or killed any of the helicopters, either. It was all him.

When it comes to his shields, Sundowner really is "in touch with his inner child." He is so proud of his new toys and keeps trying to show them off and brag to Raiden. The he loses his temper when Raiden breaks them.

Sundowner is my favorite boss in the game. Side stepping out of his charges and chopping his shields til he's pissed all while listening to this banger. It's like wanting a 7/10 fight but the bastard raises it to 13.
I always beat this guy too quickly, I never really get a chance to listen to the song. Maybe I should fight him in the most theatrical fashion possible next time. So many bosses in this game give me the chills just before the fight.

Sundowner gave me the most trouble out of all the Winds, weirdly enough. I never even got to see his giant pole phase or killed any of the helicopters, either. It was all him.

Fully upgrade the wooden sword and beat him with it then. You get it by finding all the MiBs.
The ironic part is that I have a full playthrough of the game with the Wooden Sword on Hard mode recorded, and I can confirm that you can still stun-lock him with a bit of luck and Thunder Strike. xD

I have beaten Sam with the fully damage downgraded wooden sword, on revengeance mode, without taking damage, nor did I use counter parries to deal damage. Took quite a while.
bostonianful Ah, gotcha. As Arexion said, you get it by finding all the Men-in-Boxes during the main game and killing them. It's good if you're looking for a challenge (since upgrading its strength downgrades its damage), but otherwise, it's basically a joke weapon, lol.

Sundowner is my favorite boss in the game. Side stepping out of his charges and chopping his shields til he's pissed all while listening to this banger. It's like wanting a 7/10 fight but the bastard raises it to 13.
I always beat this guy too quickly, I never really get a chance to listen to the song. Maybe I should fight him in the most theatrical fashion possible next time. So many bosses in this game give me the chills just before the fight.
