    Thanks for doing this. It's refreshing to see an actual helicopter pilot checking out the new choppers.

    I guess you figured by now but there are "Helicopter Throttle Axis", you need to assign the PUMA X throttle axis to it. 👍 in the G2, you also want to have some switch to deactivate the governor in order to fully control rpm.

    I hadnt tried the 407 yet, but if I set a throttle axis on the Cabri, I get a second collective, it just rolls the throttle as well as you lift the collective. I hope they change that down the road.

    Hey Joshua, been watching your videos for some time now and I am wanting to get a help sim setup. I would like to know if you have a recommendation for me. I’m thinking the puma and really like MSFS . But what would you recommend on VR and PC setup. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you 🙏

      Hey, thanks for watching my stuff! I love the PFT. I've spent most of my time in DCS and X-Plane although MS has come a long way. I haven't been on it in quite a while. But I have the Rift and the G2, and there's not much difference there. Can get into VR pretty cheap. I've been waiting in the "next big step" before getting a new headset. I'd try and run at least a 4000 series graphics card and an i9 Intel processor.

      @@JoshuaHambyOfficial I kept having a real hard time with the prop planes in DCS- check, and rudder assist is on by default. I was having a hard time with helicopters in XP11, and my cyclic didn't seem to move like the actual controller- Stability assist was on. It's one of the things I don't get about devs for these sims, the whole "make it realistic as possible then slap assist on by default" deal.

    Compared to Dreamfoil's B407 for X-Plane, Nemeth Designs' B407 for MSFS misses a few marks. It seems like it was released with an early access or SDK showcase model approach. It feels great to fly and you can definitely tell that the MSFS and Nemeth Designs team put a lot of work into the helicopter aerodynamics and flight model. The power and performance makes no sense for some of the operations; it has unrealistic torque values in different modes of flight. The start up process has some discrepancies and the RPM goes to full even when set on idle. Speaking of idle, you can't bind the throttle axis to your physical hardware.
    Even if you use the mouse to rotate the throttle, it still won't change the RPM. It has no GTN 750 integration on release which is odd since the Cabri G2 does. It would also be nice to compliment the 750 with HeliSAS, similar to Dreamfoil's B407. There are some inconsistencies with switches and even in 2D the legibility of text on the instrument panel is just subpar. VR text legibility is far worse somehow as I found it to be an absolute eye-strain of a blurry mess. Little details like interactible pilot and passenger doors, a working overhead panel light, etc would have been nice but not a priority.
    I tested and reviewed the MSFS B407 on a PFT Puma, RTX 3090, i9-10900KF, 128 GB RAM, HP Reverb G2, with in game textures set to Ultra, and all assists OFF (true to life).

      I totally agree. It will need work. My absolute favorite is the DF 407. It is fine tuned and you can manipulate it like a real helicopter.

    For the people who have the instability issues like I had:
    In the main menu, options, change the flight model to Legacy.
    Load a chopper, fly it (more like crash it in 2 seconds). End the flight.
    Go back to main menu, options, change flight model to modern.
    Now it should work properly.
    Thank me later.

    Cool setup you have there, Ive been flying this helicopter in the sim yesterday, and I noticed that when im picking up speed I dont have to do any cyclic correction to the right due to the greater lift of the advancing blade on the right, and when Im going at a fast speed and I let go of the cyclic the helicopter pitches up and rolls to the right very strongly...
    I dont understand this behavior, is that realistic and why is it happening???
    Thanks!

      @@JoshuaHambyOfficial I see but shoulndt I roll left at great speeds then? What I mean is its all going well flying forward, but as soon as I let the cycle go back to the neutral position while I am still moving forward, the helicopter pitches up alot and rolls to the right alot if i dont counteract it - you can try it in your simulator and see what I mean - its as iff the retreating blade has alot more lift all of a sudden or something... - just wondering if its realistic and what causes it and why the helicopter doesnt just level out and keep flying forward normally....

    Hey I would love it very much if you made another video about these helicopters in FS2020 with your experience as a pilot and let us know if theyre actually realistic... Another thing i cant explain that i have noticed, is that for a strong left curve you have to input left cyclic and left rudder however for a strong right curve once you are tilted to the right you have to input right rudder and LEFT cyclic again, otherwise the helicopter will keep rolling over to the right... - so there is this left cyclic bias happening even though left is your retreating blade...
    I wonder if that is realistic and whether you can explain that =)

    • @JoshuaHambyOfficial
      @JoshuaHambyOfficial  Год назад +1

      Yea its a little off in my experience. There really shouldn't be much pedal input when turning (unlike an airplane) if it's in trim. Pedal input usually comes power changes. As far as the cyclic, I was getting that odd roll where it didn't feel 100% correct. Once you center the cyclic, it should stop the roll moment. Shouldn't have to correct back the other way. I'm about to head back up to the sim now and mess around with it. Once I get good info, I'll make another video.

    • @isramu88
      @isramu88 Год назад

      @@Sergeant898 Yes, I’ve seen that but it serves to move the trim... but in real helicopters we have a button called Force Trim, when you press it it lets you move the cyclic freely, when you release it it maintains the attitude you have. Its represented in the cabin, in the cyclic, but dont find the assignation.

    The helicopters in MSFS are not realistic at all. I guess you can't have realism if you're using an XBox to fly. If you want to have a more realistic feel of helicopters you'll need X-Plane.

    Hey Joshua! Thanks for uploading this video, I also have the new Puma Flight Trainer and both helicopters in MSFS go absolutely batshit crazy as soon as the inputs do anything. Do you have an idea what the reason could be? Here's a timestamp from a stream that shows what I mean: www.twitch.tv/videos/1649808648?t=0h9m16s
    I'd love to fly the helicopter but absolutely cant. Fixed wings with the puma work flawless... its only when i switch to helicopters :( i have all curves and sensititvies default level, assistances off and im only doing minuscule movements on the cyclic... like 1-2cm. Flying helicopters in XP or DCS works perfectly fine with the puma.

      @@JoshuaHambyOfficial thank god i finally found the solution after hours of research:
      1) Set the control to Legacy and then the box below to "Realistic".
      2) Apply and save changes.
      3) Load a new flight in the game, maybe it works fine maybe not.
      4) Now go back to the options, switch the flight model setting back to Modern.
      5) Go to Main Menu to end your flight.
      6) Load a completely new flight, and the problem may be fixed.
