      I work at Microsoft, and even I can't afford these prices of Legos nowadays, specifically Star Wars. Legos' quality of sets has decreased while the prices have drastically increased. They are not a good value anymore like they used to be.

    I feel this is more of an Australian issue than a Lego issue. The Nintendo Switch OLED retailed in the US for 350 USD which would be around 506 AUD yet it sold in Australia for 539 AUD. The overpriced upcoming PS5 Pro will be 699 USD in America but it will be even more overpriced in Australia at 1199 AUD instead of 1012 which would be the current conversion. So it must be something related to shipping or taxes, or maybe all companies are greedy and do what they can to squeeze every penny out of their customers, nah that last one doesn't sound right, they would never.

    If your taxes are built into the price then you should be figuring the after tax cost in the U.S. For instance R2D2 would be 110.00 roughly with sales taxes in most regions. That would put the Aussie price at about 160.00. So yeah the actual price is still high but we have a Lego factory here in the United States. That brings the shipping cost WAY down compared to shipping literally around the entire world. I think a lot of your cost is factoring in there.

    • @legospaceskeleton
      @legospaceskeleton Месяц назад +2

      Sure, but the main issue is that it’s an unusually high markup when compared to sets that are the same price in the US, when they’re obviously still the same size in Australia, so they shouldn’t cost more to ship or anything.

  • @martoishere2928
    @martoishere2928 Месяц назад +1

    Same issue in Bulgaria. For example, 1usd is around 1,75 bgn, and most retail stores are charging more than they should. Recently, I whated the new imperial star destroyer, but because it is lego exclusive set, I had to get it from a certified lego shop /in Bulgaria we still don't have official lego shops, nether they ship to us/. So if we take that 1usd is 1,75 bgn the set should be priced at 280 bgn right? NAAAH, it's 340. I was thinking a lot about if I should spend that amount of money and at the end I convinced myself to buy it because the ISDs are my favourite SW ships and who know when they are going to make it again

    I’d say you should be closer to ~$170 on your first example. You pay a 10% GST which would already add $10 for every hundred. You’re at $160 on that set already, plus another $10 for shipping we’ll say.

  • @neilrusling-je6zo

    I stopped doing this currency conversion, it just gets me mad and there is nothing that can be done about it. US just gets everything cheap while the rest of us get the shaft. Be okay if some were cheaper and some more expensive so it averaged out, but it is never ever cheaper. Maybe someone can buy Lego an internet connection so they can check exchange rates and fix this issue, seems clear Lego pricing office have never heard of the interweb thingy and its shocking ability to see by just how much I am getting screwed over in seconds. Shall we start a crowdfunding campaign so we can pay for Lego head office to get an internet connection?

      Yes that's true about Americans getting everything cheap, Legos and beyond, compared to the world. Yet food is garbage and still very expensive. Comes at a price though I think of American life quality. Corporations have incredible power in the states (which means if you are an avg citizen your rights don't mean much) and state and fed taxes don't get used properly for education, healthcare, etc.

  • @legospaceskeleton

    More interesting examples of wacky pricing would be the 3 midi scale starship sets; the Invisible Hand, the Tantive IV, and the Millennium Falcon.
    In the US, these cost the following:
    IH: $50
    TIV: $80
    MF: $85
    Converted to AUD, these would ideally cost:
    IH: ~$75
    TIV: ~$115
    MF: ~$125
    Their actual prices in Australia?
    IH: $90
    TIV: $100
    MF: $150
    HOW DID A $5 DIFFERENCE (80-85) IN THE US BECOME A $50 DIFFERENCE IN AUSTRALIA???

    I’m incredibly pissed I have to put up with these prices in Australia and it’s all due to our cost of living going up. I’m only an 18 year old high school student who works a part time job where I put most of my pay towards a car I’m saving up for yet I can hardly afford most of these expensive sets on a regular basis. For certain I do have the Marvel Modular’s as I’m willing to pay a lot for them around Christmas or my birthday but as much as I want the Lord of the Rings ones they’re outrageously expensive Rivendell is $800 over here.
