Great to see the wider tyres! They make so much sense, especially for ultra events. How important do you think mud clearance is in regards to the fork? and if you had the choice again when purchasing your SID would you have gone with the 35mm Stanchion SID (travel reduced to suit frame) to gain more mud clearance and the potential for a slightly bigger tire. Not that there are many option on the market yet for an XC 2.5-2.6 inch
Great info again Josh thanks. I know weight isn’t everything but there were quite a few carbon frames in the race I wonder how much that factors (I know mason don’t do carbon). Would be great if they weighed everyone’s bikes at the start of the race - I guess we’ll never know….
Oh nice bike from Mason, very nice, my dream build would be with wide flare drops and how about some new campy Ekar GT now that, with the 29 wide wheelset and 100mm fork Yes please.
@@joshibbett So is this new bike in use and Geometry the Alloy ISO? In the same vein as Definition - resolution road / Boken - Exposure / steel vs Aluminium. If so it's a win, and I like Mason approach a lot.
Firstly, congratulations on your top 10 finish at the AMR! I'm a Dot watcher addict, and spent many hours checking out people's bike set up , speed , moving time etc. I notice the front runners seem to take the right amount of luggage, but some of the slower riders seemed to have way too much, including cookware , pillows and various other luxuries I don't think I'd want to lug over that terrain. The Mason looks a nice bike, with good geometry. I assume it is lightweight but don't know how it compares to a carbon hardtail. (More comfortable?) I look forward to your next video, with all the kit you took. Also did you weigh it? I'm doing the pan Celtic ultra, so super interested to learn more!
Hi Lydia, hope you are well. It is easy to take too much luggage for sure... exactly what the right amount to take is the kind of thing you figure out over time and experience though. I never weigh my bikes before a race, jus make sure I have all the gear I need rather than chasing super light weight. You'll love Pan Celtic, riding Scotland this year will be great.
Hey Josh! Thanks for showing your set up, some really nice touches/insights. For those without a dynamo, would you say it's possible to do AMR on some big light like the Exposure 6pack?
Yes a 6 pack or any of the bigger exposure lights would work well. You might just want to top top the battery if you get the chance just to make sure you dont get caught out in the dark near the end
The one you see there is a early prototype, however production bags will be released in the next few months so keep an eye on the tail fin website and socials for more news
Hi Josh, who is the UK distributor for Enduro bearings? I'm thinking of getting one of their bottom brackets but am having difficulty finding a supplier.
Never been a fan of bladders. Can’t see how much is in there, don’t really like having to drink through a straw, don’t like how they slosh about and not as convenient to fill up as bottles.
Fair. I'm a fan I guess. I tap the side of my bag to know how much is left and filling up I either pour something in to the top or lift it out, disconnect the hose and fill. Only thing I miss is being able to hurl bottles at rabid dogs ;) @@joshibbett
What flat bars would you normally use to suit aerobars? I've got the same issue with my hardtail - I want to install my old Vukas but the PRO bars don't have a wide enough "fat bit".
If you do find something and remember this question, I'd love to know. I'll kick off my own research but having someone already testing options is useful. @@joshibbett
Great meeting you at the race. Thanks for all your advice see you next year.
Good to meet you too, hope your race went well
Those grips are great
Yes worked well for me
Awesome bike! Those Enduro BB seem to be worth the money, seem a couple of videos on them recently.
Yes expensive at first.... but will last longer than numerous basic bb's so over time they a value for money
Great info Josh, and that new mason looks real nice.

thanks josh, geart review!! I thought you had meazcal 29X2.6

Weight is less of a factor then people think... you'll save way more time by trimming each resupply stop by a few minutes than saving a kg of weight.

The Mason ISO is already that spec, I used it for the 22 atlas with a suspension fork fitted

Great effort; I enjoyed watching the dots. What are your thoughts on using a suspension seatpost versus a full suspension frame?

That's greats! What about the rear rack? Did I miss it?
Its the Tailfin Aeropack... although the bag is a prototype it sits on the standard tail fin aerospace rack
The frame bag looks great! But I don't see it on the Tailfin website?

@@joshibbett nice! Will they be in white too???
Isn't that a SON dynamo hub and not an SP?
Yes it’s Son not SP… my brain is obviously still a bit tired after atlas!! Good spot
Nice bike and setup Josh. If you managed to ride atlas on that bike, I think my 40mm front suspension revolt with 53mm tyres should be fine 😂
You’d get round it for sure… but wider tyres and a bit more travel would be much faster and more comfortable
Maybe and excuse for new bike, perhaps XC full suspension. Thanks, Josh

Any reason you prefer the 3xbottles over sticking a bladder into the framebag?

TBC. Going to try a few out and see how I get on. Got some deda ones in the way to test
