- This was a big one. This car desperately needed a bunch of maintenance so I took it to the extreme and had the 3.2-liter Type II V6 torn alllll the way down. Happy to report it's running and driving incredibly now. On to the next phase! Thanks for watching and supporting this crazy effort!
I test drove a legend coupe back in the days when it was brandnew. I remember the engine rev up smoothly and the car rode comfortably. I would describe the automatic Legend glided with grace more than anything else:)
That is very true! Thanks for watching
Nice! Fortunate to have such a competent shop to do the work.
Totally, those guys are awesome.
We all know people that are "lucky" to have a cool car. Fun to see the reverse situation happen here. Couldn't help but notice you folded over the price tag on all of the work done 💵
Haha, right? That was a painful column to read!
Wow! You have really gone deep into the mechanic restoration of this vehicle. Saving the vehicle from certain doom. Evan, you knocked it out of the park with the center console! 👏
Totally! His attention to detail is awesome. Thanks Ty!
Glad you're restoring this baby, I was in Cali this week and went to LKQ and found 3 of these beauties but they were too far gone it broke my heart to see them there , I wish I could've brought them home with me.
I know, I've been pulling parts from two parts cars to build this one! Unfortunately both parts cars were already wrecked beyond repair.
Stunning work done by your friend Eric.
I think you mean Evan, but I'll let him know!
@@TysonHugie Yes, my mistake.
A labor of love for sure. More than I’d be willing to invest in that car
Thanks Dan
I could feel your excitement when you said it had been on your bucket list for 2 decades. Driving by and seeing that car you couldn't have.. My first car I purchased at 17 was a 95 isuzu pickup that I drove by everyday on my way home from school. (2002 or so). It looked new and was a stereotypical "grandpa truck". I wanted it.. One day a for sale sign appeared in the window so I stopped and the rest was history!
That is awesome! Sometimes patience pays off.
Wow, that's a ton of work on this car! The intake manifold is a work of art.
It's a pretty cool-looking design for sure! Engine bays these days are just plastic covers, it seems.
@@TysonHugie Older J series v6 had a decent looking manifold yet still they covered it with a tupperware cover haha I think new earth dreams j series have a plastic manifold ala GM so i dont mind if they cover it at all.
Glad to see you pull this one out. Exact Acura as I have. Clutch needs to be replaced and I’m back on the road. I believe I sent you pics a while ago. Always the dream car. Can’t wait to see more of the restoration.
Would love to see how yours is looking currently. Having lots of fun (and lots of struggles) getting this thing back to former glory...
What an impressive inventory of vehicles in your garage....daaaaaayuuuuummmm!
It's always evolving!
Damn the love you have for your acuras is incredible love your videos. I used to have a 91 legend 4 door fully loaded used to love commuting that car every day to work, that was the best part of my day. Had to sell the car after it was totaled when an 18 wheeler ran me off the road after I was trying to pass him and hit the center divider that sent me up few feet up in the air and landed hard. The body was twisted and the rear window exploded, landed on the opposite side of the road nearly hitting a tree. I miss that car so much.
Aw man, sorry to hear about the loss of your Legend. Glad you were okay, and hopefully you can get another one someday.
I've bought 3 other acuras sense, non have brought me joy like that one. Now I know how much you love every single one of those, specially that last one, to others is a piece of junk. To you its a work in progress.👍🙏
Tyson, you are a Legend for restoring this Legend! Awesome to see the one you've wanted forever get the life it deserves. I know another comment on here mentioned this, but we HAVE to see the previous owner's reaction to the fully restored car once you get it all done!
Totally!! That's the plan. Can't wait to show it to her. Thanks Sunny!
I’m really enjoying watching this Legend returning to its full glory. Especially the footage at Hon-Man, getting some well deserved exposure.
Haha yes. I don’t think they have any social media presence! Plus they’re busy enough I doubt they need the exposure :) but I was glad for their thorough approach!
I recently bought the same legend and your videos have been helpful to restore my car since I’m doing it on my own. Specially since it’s really hard to find any RUclips videos with the same legend as mine.
Nice, is yours a green 1995 LS 6-speed as well? Send me some pics, would love to see it.
@@TysonHugie I just uploaded a quick video on my channel
@@TysonHugie no unfortunately it's not a 6 speed.
Can't wait to see Amy's reaction when you pull up all restored.
Totally! That will be the best!
Thanks for saving another one! No ABS light... jealous!
I still can't believe the ABS is working! More than likely a burned out cluster bulb, haha.
didn't know Evan was still doing that. good for him and hope to see ya in KS
Looking forward to it!
The fact that this baby is running now is really something! Can't wait to see it!
Me too, thanks Michael!
Enjoying this revival! I would have been in the backyard with an engine hoist pulling the engine out of the t-boned white parts car you got there and swapping into this one.
Seriously, that would probably have been much easier!
Great job! You’re definitely a life saver for these Acuras. Keeping them out of the junk yard. Can’t wait to see more!
Thanks Bill! Stay tuned!
Always great to see these getting some love!
You know it!
Outstanding! Glad to see the car is running and look forward to seeing the completed restore. I just had major repairs (head gasket/timing belt/water pump) done on my'94 LS Coupe (also Sherwood Green) as well. Doing what needs to be done to keep these awesome Legends on the road.
Very nice! Glad you are making good progress with yours as well!
Wow showing the legend some love! Sounds like the mechanicals are in order. Seems the rest are just old car body issues. I'm sure it's going to be really nice when you get done!
Can't wait! Just have to take it slow because I want to do it all "right."
You mechanic is just amazing. Brilliant.
Thanks
Good to see the car rolling again on it's own power. Appreciate you sharing the progress and keeping the Legend alive. You continue to inspire me and hope to get my ride restored as well. All the best with this labor of love!
That's the plan! Thanks Deven!
This car deserves to be beautiful again
Totally agreed!
So happy to finally see her on the road sans smoke! Can't wait to see how the cosmetics turn out!
Exactly! Glad we got this one to lay off the smoking habit :)
Did a similar refresh on my GS 6spd two years ago. Had heads rebuilt, cooling system completely replaced, and complete reseal on the motor. I didn't touch the bottom end other than resealing the oil pan and pump though. Did some other work while waiting on the heads; evaporator, front wheel bearings, power steering hoses, A/C reseal, etc. Running great now, but it does have a transmission leak and still needs some suspension work.
That's awesome! These old cars deserve to stay on the road.
Just found this channel and subbed. Great content keep up the great work Tyson!
Hey thanks Karl, I appreciate it!
Wow, that's a ton of work on this car!
It's crazy. I have a long ways to go, too.
Loving it. That door creak is sketchy. Reminds me of an old pickup at the yards
Seriously, I need to figure out how to lube that.
Keep an eye and an ear on the Gates WP because I installed a Gates TB/WP kit on my '05 Pilot in '14 and around 35K miles later the WP started making a light grinding noise for a minute or so after start-up and then it would go away. I finally ripped it out around 5K miles later when the noise became constant. I installed an Aisin WP and the noise was gone. The Gates WP's were a big topic of conversation on the Piloteers forums at the time and most people go with the Aisin kits these days.
I know, it was a big debate since nothing OEM is available anymore. Thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure if Aisin makes one for this car.
I’m glad that your 1995 Legend is running great. I can’t wait to see in the next video. I haven’t seen when you post on drivetofive anymore. Great video. 👍🏼
I know! Sadly I haven't be putting any time into the blog lately. I should check in on there and say a few words sometime. Thanks for watching!
Impressive to see this restoration not being done mostly as DIY project, I bet that bill wasn't easy to swallow
About $30,000
@@TysonHugie just on that bill or the whole restoration?
This car is going to be so nice when it's done!!!!
Agreed, I hope so!
Tyson - have you found a repair for the electric tilt steering wheel adjustment?
In this case the tilt seems to be working, but when I had my RL, I was able to find a RUclips video explaining how to manually put the wheel in a good position and just leave it there. It worked great.
My coupe wants to fixed by this amazing man!!
Thanks!
Hmm you know I think it'll be cool to keep the patina on the outside of this and fully redo the inside!
I was thinking about that, at least for the first show.
Good thing this car didn’t went to the scrap yard. This car has more to live for
Agreed!
Hey Tyson
Nice work😊
Nice to hear from you! Thanks and hope the holidays are treating you well 😀
Thinking about buying a 91 coupe, 5 speed, 200k miles. Possible daily driver? We shall see! Love your video!
Nice! Keep me posted!
@@TysonHugie update, bought it.
How much time cost and effort to get the car back to normal? Is it worth it?
Worth it in a resale sense, definitely not. I will be into this car easily $20-25k. But worth it for sentimental value, absolutely.
@@TysonHugie I am a big Acura fan myself. Those early cars were great. At least you will get to enjoy the car once you bring it back to life. But the interior needs a total refresh.
Your videos never disappoint. Is the color of the legend green? Its cool to see a six speed ... totally deserving of a full restoration
Yes! It's technically a deep green metallic called Sherwood Green. It'll be sweet when it's all said and done. Thanks Gideon.
Thank you for answering my last question. I really enjoy your videos. One more for you - have any of your contacts found a source for, or a substitution for the discontinued power steering pressure switch in the late 90's model Legends/RL's? Well - maybe one more - Is there an Acura discussion forum you use to talk with others about these older model Acuras? I've searched but most seem to be dead for the older models. I have a '99 RL in really amazing shape, but something like a discontinued power steering component may force me to park it.
Check out the Facebook group Acura Legend Owners & Enthusiasts. There is also a forum at acuralegend.org. I haven't heard of that power steering switch being an issue before. If you want to email me a part number I can send it to my mechanic and ask for recommendations.
@@TysonHugie Sorry - I couldn't find your email. The part # for the power steering pressure switch/sensor is 56490-P5G-003. I've talked to the Acura local dealer and called another one in Boston where I've previously ordered parts, but they all say it's discontinued. I did find the part in Japan, but the cost, plus shipping, plus shipping time made it unworkable. I've purchased one from a salvage yard, so we'll see if it's any good in a few days. I'll look for the FB group you recommended. Thanks again!
First time to the Chanel as I’m researching these cars as I’m considering purchasing one here in Anaheim California. Where do you purchase interior parts for these cars? Is there a company that sells them new? Thanks
No, parts for these cars were discontinued a long time ago. Most of the time you need to find replacement items at salvage yards, on eBay, etc. If you’re talking about seats then you can have them reupholstered.
We need Evan’s information. That shifter trim came out excellent
Right? He is a true artist! Email me. I'm not sure he is doing many of these consoles anymore but you can at least connect with him.
Where did you get your engine/parts from please? And what is your thoughts on a rancid, rich fuel smell from an exhaust, if you have experienced it? Good job on this legend. I use mine as a daily here in Au and i am becoming more attached to its ride and quality. Good job
Thanks, the parts came from a variety of sources - some used, some aftermarket, some Ebay, some from parts cars. Anything specifically you are looking for? I'm not sure on the smell!
Nothing in particular, but good to know parts are still able to be sourced.
Awesome video Tyson. That engine must be so relieved to have that restoration. How much did everything cost?
The restoration is far from complete - but just the mechanical stuff was around $8k. More to come :)
i've just buy myself a 94 saloon model in the exact same state as this one is (same colour too) i'm currious to see what are you looking to do for the paint in the futur...
I've started getting some quotes on paint work, and it's a little overwhelming there are so many price ranges and options.
Yes! Legend content
You know it
Any help getting Acura coupe 3.2 ka8 parts? Uk owner seeking condenser. Plus power steering cooler parts. Plus front number washer jets. Fabulous car. Wish coupe parts were easier! Love the coupe legend. Andy
Thanks Andy. Some of those items might be on Ebay, otherwise if you'd like to email me I can put you in touch with a friend who has some parts from a donor car.
Love your videos man! Keep them coming! Where do you get the replica window stickers from? I've got a 99ls400 and can't find the one that came with car. Thanks bro
You bet, thank you! My friend Jason does the replica stickers. His email is pawela@gmail.com
Amazing job!!! Who did you get to repair the dash and do you know of anyone near Maryland who can overhaul my 3.2 Type II LS?
Thanks! Unfortunately I don’t have any MD shop recommendations. The dash on this car got completely replaced, not repaired.
@@TysonHugie Thanks Bro!! Keep up the great work.
Really excited to see the progress on this car! What’s in slated for phase 2?
Phase 2 is the interior, I just got the seats back from upholstery!
It was really interesting seeing that C-series engine torn down to the block. One question - how much work did the valve train need? Original camshafts still ok? Any valves need replacing, or was that end of the engine ok? Looking forward to whenever your wallet recovers from that work and you start to tackle the cosmetic aspects!
The major hardware in the motor was fine (pistons, camshaft, valves), so that was good to be able to keep the "numbers matching" original engine and rebuild it vs. replacing the motor.
Great videos, i have a 91 legend coupe 5speed tach not working any suggestion? I got a replacement sensor off rockauto doesnt work. Dealership in canada doesnt have it. Thanks
A replacement cluster on eBay and have a local speedometer shop set the proper mileage. I did that with an Integra once.
@@TysonHugie I'll try that thanks for replying
Great vid Tyson! Does Evan do refinishing of the center console for other brands?
He might! If you want to email me I can give you his info.
@@TysonHugie just sent you an email. Thanks in advance!
What a piece of junk. I love it!
Haha, it's getting there. But still junk!
Awesome 👏
Thank you!
Hi Tyson, there's a near mint 95 sedan in our local yard with a mint dash. I'm not sure if it'll fit the coupe but it would be a nice one to get. I'm in El Paso Texas.
Hey thanks for letting me know. The coupe and sedan dashes are interchangeable. But luckily I already have a new one waiting for install!! I appreciate it.
@@TysonHugie cool.
@rudycorraudio This 95 mint you're talking about in El Paso ... Is it a manual or auto? Thanks!
@@davidtripper1253 Hi David the legend is a automatic.
@@rudycorraudio9089 Hi and thank you for the information. I'm hoping to come across a 94-95 manual to pull some engine and transmission pieces I'm needing. Thanks again!
Man oh man!!!
More to come!
sick I still got me 95 gs 6speed
That is a rare one for sure!
I’m currently looking for this exact car, my dad gave me his in high school and i still haven’t driven a car like this. The gaskets blew so I traded it for a cl type s which was cool but it wasn’t this. I’ve had Infiniti coupes and bmw coupes and i still want this, I’m willing to pay about 10k for a running one that needs nothing which I know is going to be hard to find.
Send me an email, I have some ideas on cars you might want to consider.
Who did you have do the overhaul?
Hon-Man Auto Care
Legendary. - 3030
Thanks man
How's the ILX doing?
Респект тебе брат 💪
Funny you ask, that is the subject of my next video! Tune in next week. 238k miles
@@TysonHugie Can't wait.
pls put tthe tl back in there lol
Haha! I know, it's like trying to pick a favorite child!
Sweeetttt.
Thanks for checking it out!
You know where I can find some GS rims
eBay
Does Evan have a website?
No but check with Kathy at Craft Customs in Texas. They restored a console for me after this one that's just as nice as Evan's.
@@TysonHugie Great! I wonder if there are places like this closer to me on the east coast (NJ). I'm sure there are, I just don't know about them.
$6.09 a gallon !!! treat her from time to time lol
Haha right?
Why the engine overhaul, oil burning?
Yes, major
@@TysonHugie Damn I take non frequent oil changes as the culprit. Aren't the c series pretty stout?
I want that white type s 07 08
I just recently got that!
Need a place in North Carolina that can rebuild my 3.2
Send me an email, I have some contacts
How many legends do you own in total? Lol
5 including a parts car
@@TysonHugie wow amazing. Are you keeping all of em or will you be selling them in the future
