You got it the wrong way, obviously you didn't travel much in poor countries. It's your environment that makes you introvert, once you spent some weeks in one to those poor countries, coming from a rich one, people are interested in communicating with you, you are different, they are curious, plus you represent a way for them to get away from their daily and life financial problems. Back home I'm like you, I strive, but once in those countries I become interesting and since people value you, you value yourself and strangely, it organically makes you wittier, funnier, it gives you self confidence. You behave like a prince, in the best sense, smile more, communicate more easily, become pleasant, lovely, you actually look better. I'm from Falcón too. I'm not living in Vzla right now. Morrocoy and Chichiriviche is truly a piece of paradise on Earth. I went there with good friends and my ex back in 2014 and was a trip I'll never forget, ever. And there we (both me and my ex) had our first experience with cannabis. Truly magical place. Cayo Sombrero rules too. I forgot the name of other cayos that we visited. I still have the photos and videos and store them like a treasure. I'll print them because its gonna be nice looking back at the memories when I get old. It's cool to see that at least tourism is recovering in some way.

Regardless of where you're from, you need to visit Morrocoy at least once in your life. It literally is a paradise on earth. Also, while some of the things are expensive for us Venezuelans, like seafood there in the Cayos, you can spend waaaaay less by buying and preparing yourself beforehand then bringing it over there. Last time we went there with the family earlier this year, we spent around 600 bucks total, including the resort in Chichiriviche, for 4 people for 4 days and 3 nights.

@@quan2x293 To be honest, in recent years it has become way safer. Maybe a few years back it was rough, but places like Morrocoy or the Island of Margarita are super safe nowadays. That last time I went to Cayo Sombrero, there were a lot of tourists, a few of them Asian. We have kind of a meme over here where we joke by saying "Venezuela fixed itself", but in a sense, it has indeed improved in some ways, and security has been of them. Its been literally years without news of kidnappings for example.
In fact, the last huge news about a tourist being kidnapped or killed over here was actually the killing of a Paraguayan attorney. It was a Political killing, not really a common crime and they caught the perpetrator.

for those of you wondering how the scam works: you pay an initial fee for the boat ride. they stop in a nice, scenic area, maybe take a swim and get some pictures, at which point scammer says he needs more money to get you home or else he will leave you stranded, maybe stating he needs money for gas or something. obviously, this puts you, the victim, in a bad situation and gives the scammer all the leverage to charge you whatever they want to get you back. i dont really know how to avoid this scam because everybody is going to make you pay upfront, and he doesnt mention how to avoid the scam, either, besides saying "dont get scammed". yes, its a bit harder i guess once the victim is aware of the danger, but i think being accompanied by a local, or (even better) building a rapport with a reliable boat operator, is a good start to avoiding this particular scam.

when i was 18-21 I stayed high as much as I could, was fave thing in world to do, then without even trying I lost interest in it, in fact Id get high and not really feel good until this happened enough that I avoided it, all my friends smoked and knew not to even bother passing it to me. I worked in Venezuela in 1980 and 81 in Catia La Mar on the coast outside or Caracas west of La Guira. Thank you for taking me back. Not much has changed. It could have been 40 years ago the building and the barrios are the same and the women are just as beautiful as I remember. Of course the beaches were never far away.

A "real local" wtf does that even mean? Every country has different economic classes unfortunately. You have people with less and you have people with a lot. Venezuela used to be the richest country in the world so this is not abnormal however the inequality is the very reason for how the dictatorship came into power. There was more poor people so they targeted those folks for votes.

I went there with good friends and my ex back in 2014 and was a trip I'll never forget, ever. And there we (both me and my ex) had our first experience with cannabis. Truly magical place.
Cayo Sombrero rules too. I forgot the name of other cayos that we visited. I still have the photos and videos and store them like a treasure. I'll print them because its gonna be nice looking back at the memories when I get old.

Regardless of where you're from, you need to visit Morrocoy at least once in your life. It literally is a paradise on earth. Also, while some of the things are expensive for us Venezuelans, like seafood there in the Cayos, you can spend waaaaay less by buying and preparing yourself beforehand then bringing it over there. Last time we went there with the family earlier this year, we spent around 600 bucks total, including the resort in Chichiriviche, for 4 people for 4 days and 3 nights.

@@quan2x293 To be honest, in recent years it has become way safer. Maybe a few years back it was rough, but places like Morrocoy or the Island of Margarita are super safe nowadays. That last time I went to Cayo Sombrero, there were a lot of tourists, a few of them Asian. We have kind of a meme over here where we joke by saying "Venezuela fixed itself", but in a sense, it has indeed improved in some ways, and security has been of them. Its been literally years without news of kidnappings for example.
In fact, the last huge news about a tourist being kidnapped or killed over here was actually the killing of a Paraguayan attorney. It was a Political killing, not really a common crime and they caught the perpetrator.

for those of you wondering how the scam works:
you pay an initial fee for the boat ride. they stop in a nice, scenic area, maybe take a swim and get some pictures, at which point scammer says he needs more money to get you home or else he will leave you stranded, maybe stating he needs money for gas or something. obviously, this puts you, the victim, in a bad situation and gives the scammer all the leverage to charge you whatever they want to get you back. i dont really know how to avoid this scam because everybody is going to make you pay upfront, and he doesnt mention how to avoid the scam, either, besides saying "dont get scammed". yes, its a bit harder i guess once the victim is aware of the danger, but i think being accompanied by a local, or (even better) building a rapport with a reliable boat operator, is a good start to avoiding this particular scam.
Never pay the whole price upfront, half at the beginning, the rest at the end

It could have been 40 years ago the building and the barrios are the same and the women are just as beautiful as I remember. Of course the beaches were never far away.

No one’s happy. Just because a thousand people are enjoying life doesn’t mean all Venezuelans are. I’m in the capital right now Caracas and things are getting worse by the day since like 1958 🤣
