"YO SICK I DIDN'T KNOW THEY MADE COROLLA WAGONSSSS" "why does your car sound like a wrx? its not a wrx, did you swap it?" "ugh why would you put a hood scoop on a non-turbo car!?!?" lol the struggle is real bro....
I've got a 5MT Legacy GT Wagon as well. Things I don't like: 1. The maintenance costs are ridiculous. Every sensor, wheel bearings, suspension bushings, turbos, the amount of oil it consumes from the factory (apparently 1 qt/1K miles is normal), they all break all the time for some reason. Rubber likes to wear out very quickly in these too. The downpipe is right next to the front CV boot so it wears that thing down in no time. 2. The transmission feels alright but the dual mass flywheel is just terrible. DMFs have no right being in road cars. It makes the clutch engagement extremely difficult to master. You also have to throw out the flywheel every time you replace the clutch and my car has 204K on it, so that thing has to go yet again here. Probably going to do a swap with a regular single mass flywheel and clutch from an older WRX. Might improve the feel too since there isn't a ton, though it is better than newer cars that I've driven. But I've driven probably 30 or 40 different manual cars in my lifetime and the only ones that are more difficult than this car are the ones that have had huge cams like a drag set-up C5 Corvette I've driven as well as a Boss 302 Mustang. 3. Yes, a sixth gear would be nice, but a good tuner can adjust timing and such to reduce fuel consumption at freeway speeds if you desire. My car gets better MPG at 70 MPH than it does at 60 and you can feel the slight pulling of timing at around 2800 RPM. Actually nice to have that. 4. First to second is very, very tricky and around PDX where I live there are some hills you have to climb in first gear, but the car REFUSES to let you downshift to first gear, so you either have to stop all traffic behind you to get into first, or lug the engine like absolutely crazy in second at 10 MPH up some of these hills. 5. I actually have no problem with this because I'm a skinny guy at 6 feet tall but anybody bigger than me would have a hard time fitting comfy and heel-toeing would be very hard with shoes bigger than my size 10.5s. The steering wheel is also barely adjustable so that can make fitment harder. I still love this car and it makes lots of fun turbo noises, is fast, and very practical while looking great :) Just know what you're getting into buying one used.
Nathan Young all good points! I’m right there with you though, despite some flaws I still love this car. Like you said it’s relatively fast, practical and good looking. Great daily
Great vid mate, couldn’t agree more on the easily damaged paint. Currently restoring mine and there are chips everywhere! Still it will be nice when I see my car next to a non loved liberty/Legacy. Happened all the time with my old Civic. Sounds like the only thing you need to change is your gearbox if it really annoys you that much and fix your paint work when you change your front end. Keep up the good work and sick beats!
John Treanor yeah it’s crazy how many little chips there are, I even have a couple that are above the window. For sure, the transmission is my next big project for the car once the 240 is done. And thanks for subscribing!
There's no way someone who is an enthusiast wouldn't know that it's a Subaru. And a 6 speed swap is going to make your gearing closer, 5 speed gears are taller
my only "hate" about this car is I didn't buy a LGT Wagon/Spec-B in 2005 when I was in Denver and I was looking at buying a car...Instead of getting a LGT wagon/Spec-B, NB Miata, RX-8, 9-3 Aero Sportcombi, or (Bug-eye) WRX...I ended up in a 1.8t GTI. The GTI wasn't horrible and I had the car for 15 years...but looking back now, I can only imagine how cool life would have been if I had gone with a LGT wagon or Spec-B.
I've got an 05 Legacy GT sedan. We're exhaust buddies! Same layout, I believe it's the same muffler as well. I couldn't agree more on the 6th speed. I've had a few road trips where I've had to cruise at 110+mph and it gets rough on a 5 speed. That V8-like rumble when you let off the gas at 110mph though...
Average Bros Media It seems to be a similar setup but I don't know if it's the Greddy kit exactly. She's a ripe 175k miles old and I'm her third owner so a lot of equipment I don't know the exact name of. i.imgur.com/j1OmKHah.jpg
Do the 6speed swap. Worth it if you can find an STi transmission on the low and hasn’t been abused every other day. Very rare but you should get more sources for parts in California compared to before.
That's the dream! Would be so nice to have a full STI transmission and if I was feeling really crazy, swap the hubs to 5x114.3 for better wheel options.
Average Bros Media I have the same car. One in 86 ever made. If your going to do the 6speed swap look for a specb trans they bolt right up and plug into the 5speed wire harness if you wanna follow my build my ig is @project_boostwagon
I have the same problem with my front bumper & paint chips Really sux. You should upgrade to a 2007 - 2009 S402 front end. BTW - Are they the S402 BBS wheels?
Its a total bummer! But I'm hoping to repaint the entire car one day and if I do I've been considering going with the S402 style front end. And the wheels are Enkei Raijin.
I absolutely love it when people make car videos where they talk too much about things you don’t want to know about, and the 360 view of the car accompanied with electronic dance music is soooooo original.
Cody Casey haha how bored are you that you have time to just leave negative comments on RUclips? Please feel free to explain why I don’t know what I’m talking about.
I have a 2007 subaru legacy gt limited wagon. Stock as far as I know. No badges on the back as well. Mine is charcoal grey w/ black trim. Love these 4th gen lgt. Had a 2002 let w / manual 5spd. The new wagon is an auto, I miss the manual, but the auto is better for me, as a daily driver. Keep up the good work!
I hate my 2005 LGT's numb, clueless clutch and lack of torque at low rpms. If I could feel the clutch better, I wouldn't have to over rev and burn said clutch in order to not kill the engine when trying to start out smoothly from a standstill. I would have a better sense of what the clutch is doing. I compare it to my '87 535is. It does not compare in any way except to disappoint in every way, including pedal effort. The lack of room for my size 13 shoes under the dash when working said clutch is alarming and dangerous. I hate that. My toe hangs up during spirited driving, exactly not the time when one wants this to happen. Driver's position to the clutch sucks too, forcing me to sit much closer to the steering wheel than any sane person would ever wish to sit (except maybe Grandma), especially in a fairly high performance vehicle. I am a recumbent sort of guy, arms straight at 10 and 2. My clutch foot should still go all the way to the floor. Very hard to do in the LGT without going " Full Granny". I'm not a big guy, pretty average at 5'-8", at least average for a guy in his mid 60's. I have a 30" inseam. I mention this because it gives people of similar size a reference when considering an LGT. It also means I have experienced a whole lot of clutches in my lifetime. My 66 Nova wagon had a better position to clutch and better feel than this LGT. My Dad's VW Type 2's, '63 and '70, had better feel and position to clutch. It would be a sick joke to compare this LGT clutch to my 78 Sirocco's. I got the wagon because it is beautiful to behold, mine in a fiery orange-red. I have owned six wagons in my lifetime. This is the only one I ever had that goes like hell on fire on a frosty winter morning, when the turbo really kicks ass. My LGT has a Cobb Stage 1 tune and sits on BBS 17" forged wheels that look a lot like the ones on this black wagon, but in silver. They are a little more sensible in size for a dirt road country life such as mine. At $775/wheel, one better believe they are pretty, right? Pretty soon, the wheels will be worth more than the wagon. My LGT's paint is still nearly flawless. Lucky, I guess. 6 gears would be sooooo nice. Top speed is definitely rpm limited (the power is there) and mpg could be better on long trips at 75 to 80 mph. Anything above 90 mph doesn't much interest me any more, but I sure love the twisties. New springs and Bilsteins all around don't disappoint in that realm. So Subaru, how come all my backplates are needing replacement at 73K miles? Shame on you for a shit finish on those deeply embedded parts. It will cost a fortune to replace them. All the hubs will have to be pulled, suspension dismantled on all four corners. That was a POS move on your part.
Reading your comment made me smile and laugh at the same time. Being a service tech and driving all sorts of different cars myself, clutch feel stands out as one of the most important aspects that should be considered when manufacturing a vehicle, but it seems like car companies could care less. I too hate that darn clutch and the size of the footwell (I have a size 15 shoe). I wanted a fast Japanese car that I could enjoy on a daily basis, and Subaru was always at the top of my list. Eventually, I ended up settling for a 2008 Acura TL Type S, but for some reason I felt that I cheated myself. Sure I can stick 275/35R18 tires in the wheel wells on all four corners, sure I can cruise the highways in sixth gear, and sure I can enjoy a car with great steering and clutch feedback, but there's just something missing. Maybe it's the wagon factor, yearning to have room for more "activities." Or maybe it's the AWD that I miss.... Maybe it's the general understatement other people make in not knowing what the Legacy is all about. New cars are getting worse and worse as time goes on, so I might just jump into an 05-07 LGT Wagon one day.
Recently acquired a fifth gen liberty GT. Wear and tear costs. Notorious Bilstein shock knock. First time ever had to change a shock in any car after nearly 20 years of driving...
The 5 speed Legacy GT is actually a well-built transmission. The louder whining noise from the gears are from how tight the gear tolerances were machined. Precision.
Anything is possible with time and money, but if you haven't dumped a ton of money into your car it could be more cost effective to just sell yours and buy a manual.
@@avengednick Thank you. I did more research on this topic. I know it is sometimes expensive and time consuming but in my country manuals are very very rare.
Spec B 6 speed is where its at. After driving my car around with a bunch of freeway driving after the 6mt swap its perfect. Its like the 5mt, and then you still have another gear for that high speed cruising.
@@skippylegrandgourou2069 I am in europe and outside of uk its quite problematic to import RHD cars from Japan and not nearly as cheap. Transport fees and lack of replacement parts as only early WRX had 2.0 turbo ej here would be really eh. I also want to run on 95RON fuel.
Dont get a 6 speed for a highway gear. The sti 6 speed will be at a even higher rpm on the highway than the 5. Just thought I would pass that along! The 6 speed gear ratios are close for banging the gears in rally / track driving.
I'd probably be swapping in a spec.B 6 speed trans since it's a direct bolt in and the 5th and 6th gear on that are a bit longer than the STI trans. But appreciate the info!
Average Bros Media sounds like you know what your doing! Just thought I'd pass that along as I had the same complaint about my 5 speed on the highway. I'd still take the 6 speed for the durability! It is nice though being right in the power no matter what gear you are in on highway.
@@avengednick im torn between buying an lgt wagon or sedan.. Possibly the outback sedan (h6) u got any vids comparing both lgts? I drive a 2.5 ob rn of the sane gen
It's nice to hear you mention the paint, the front of mine looks pretty much like your's....tiny little chips! haha Also I bought some clear headlights and unaware to me they came with HID ballast attached, you have any advice on how to connect them?
kbordenave you’re definitely not alone! And unfortunately I’ve seen some front ends on other 05’s that are way worse. Hmm... do you know if they’re aftermarket HID’s or did you get lucky and score some JDM headlights unknowingly?
Just find a spec b like I did. The trans is bullet proof, interior trim is the highest Subaru ever made. Unfortunately all the rest you said still applies lol
Already Spec B interior swapped the wagon and just installed the complete Spec B aluminium arm set, just have the transmission left. As much as I miss my spec b, this was the plan all along and the wagon had more sentimental value.
That's definitely a common issue on these cars, I've gotten lucky and haven't had any cracking issues yet. I did have the sticky dash issue, but Subaru replaced it under warranty.
randy alexis I’m not sure if it’s still an active recall, but Subaru warranted the dashes for the adhesive coming to the surface. Got a freshie put in my car for free
bustedrav right on dude! And definitely agree, the +15 STI steering rack is s pretty common upgrade on our cars. I ended up putting dynamat on all 4 doors and it helped a ton.
If you 6 speed it... Then also go for that STI swap & drive train mods esp braking power. Go for a 2.5l Cosworth motor 👍 then give it the max size of turbo it can handle.
We can definitely make that happen, not sure how long of a video it will be but what specifically would you like to know about it? And will do, we have some big changes and announcements for the 1k mark!
Average Bros Media hm, I think comparison between Louis wrx if it has the vf52 too, and the legacy gt. A video is hard since is already installed. A suggestion is talking about tunning in general and maybe mention the turbo ? ( dyno run?:) Thank you!
Average Bros Media I'm not too sure about the usdm ones, but the 6 speeds in the liberty's that Australia have are different from a generic 6 speed from an wrx STI, beIng the centre diff and the ratios
None of these are unfixable and half of these dont even apply to EUDM Spec B that has H6 with sti 6Speed, suspension and steering and no turbo, no stupid tune issues or EJ like issues with it, its as reliable as FA and FB series engines as they originated from EZ30D. TL;DR its pretty much perfect as a car after you sort out the paint and dont go ham with mods.
I can think of a few 5th things 😂: - horrible head gasket design - constant burning /smell of burning oil - 6 hrs to remove an intake manifold - TGV? Why subaru…why?? - side mount injectors, starving the final injector/cylinder of fuel when pushing power - horribly cramped engine bay - horrible shifter bushing design - oil filter that clogs the banjo bolt but involves removing your intake and turbo to replace - horrible oil pickup design that deprives engine of oil - cheap oil turbo feed lines that crack - cheap PCV and crankcase tubing that fails often
Haha you’re not wrong… I’ve fixed as many of those issues as I can but unfortunately I’m stuck with the bad headgasket design and right engine bay. Someone say engine swap?
The 5th thing should be the horrible idea Subaru had to introduce the rubber coating on the interior trim that easily peeled for this generation Legacy. Luckily they replaced the coating with actual matte black paint for the facelift variant of the same gen.
#5 Tiny gas tank for poor fuel economy. I have a 05 Outback XT which is modded and I average 22mpg on cruising flat freeway @75mph. I am not complaining about the fuel economy since full time awd and 275whp will get me that. But it could use an extra 3-5 gallons in the tank, considering this is a large wagon and other Japanese sedans of this size and year have 18-20 gallon tanks vs 16 on all turbo Subarus
Reece M yeah once I switch off the struts/springs and have move adjustability with coilovers or air and some suspension arms I should easily be able to fit the 235’s that I want.
@@avengednick What was it in stock? I suppose this is the US version, not the Japanese one? Japanese stock is 280 BHP and comes with 6 speed manual/5 speed auto.
@@avengednick This is what I drive - very very rare car - scontent-lhr8-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/98056523_565429934356130_1065771206512214016_o.jpg?_nc_cat=104&_nc_sid=07e735&_nc_oc=AQn12TfhRTLHENjIBqy4qgpw8HcPo9JGzCBBWJCWYsNlb4bs7Hd9T6dc9ttvawWu4Mc&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr8-1.xx&oh=0efb56c14e5df46802dfa47fe34fef70&oe=5F091C4A
250hp to the crank, unfortunately I didn’t dyno it stock to see what that translated to at the wheels for a better comparison. But it’s night and day over stock.
I had a 04 wrx with the 5 speed now i own a 04 wagon with 2.5l and 6 speed swap and beside the fact that its built much tougher the gear ratio are shorter so when cruising at 80mph you are still gonna be a 3krpm wich yeah kinda sucks
Funny. You can fit way more meat under the fenders, and my 05 has barely any rock chips on it. Maybe 4 or 5 at most. With you on the 6 speed. Love my 08 spec b trans swap.
I'd be hard pressed to go from a 225 to a 235 on the current setup without pulling the fender. But the spec B trans will definitely be the way I go when I swap out.
The oem brakes on the legacy gt are the worst ive had in any car. There is like half inch before brakes apply. I had to add brembos and sti booster to make that car stop. The stupid S drive button sucks. Any small issue and the car is stuck in i mode. The car needs a solid tranny mount , if not shifter wobbles like crazy. I hate the stupid ac and radio was stuck together. No dask kit for car only custom. I had the legacy gt in the shop 48 times. Car always had a issue
Man this hit way too close to home! Haha the stock brakes really are trash, had to add Brembos and a master cylinder brace to get it where I was happy. Don’t event get me started on the stereo being connected to the HVAC... Aside from the underperforming or studious factory components, I’ve been fortunate not to have too many reliability issues. Despite all the things I’ve had to change on this car to make it perform how I want, I love it. I’m so deep down the rabbit hole now I figure I should just keep modding it. It would be hard to replace the car in its current state as far as something that looks and drives as good, oh and is a wagon.
I Have a 08 legacy debadged with L7 emblem overlays custom headlights and have people ask what it is have people asked if it was a Acura a Lexus even a Nissan maxima lol don't know how someone got that but hey unique factor
That depends on a lot of variables. What mods are you running, how much power, a little bit of luck. Some people have engine or trans failure at 50k and some are still driving stock engines/trans at 200K. I will say, proper maintenance goes a LONG way in getting longevity out of your car.
I'm driving a JDM 2003 legacy 2.0gt spec b, 4.444 final drive provides me aggressive acceleration feel, but it goes more than 3000rpm if I go about 100km/h😂 can you believe I got better fuel economy in the city rather than high way. 😂
My paint on my legacy wagon is not the best either. I am also unfortunate to have tan interior. The rear hatch panel that holds the reverse lights is quite brittle. Japan knows better not to have brittle parts.
Totally agree with everything you have mentioned. I want to throw a 6 speed trans into my GT sedan, it was one of the first things I had thought to myself while on a freeway for the first time.
Haha since when do a banner and wheels make a car "look" fast? The banner is purely branding and you're the first person to describe the wheels as ugly, but fortunately it's not your car.
Average Bros Media That’s not what I’m trying to say, I’m not trying to shit on any car but a sleeper is only a sleeper when you can’t tell what is coming. If you saw a stock Wrx Sti you would know it is a fast car, if you saw a stock legacy GT, however, you would not expect anything. So why would you put on flashy wheels and shit if it’s not supposed to look like it’s going to have power. A sleeper is supposed to not look like a fast car!
Word, I can see where you're coming from. It definitely rides the line of being a sleeper, in my opinion. Sounds like you're pretty familiar with Subaru's so you'd recognize a Legacy GT, most people don't even look twice, they think it's just another soccer mom wagon. Haha
The outbacks have wider flares, that's why they can fit 245 wide tires. Here's a nicely modified outback xt (same year as yours) bringatrailer.com/2018/02/21/sti-for-the-family-nicely-modded-2005-subaru-outback-xt/
I get bored too easily, I'm always looking for a way to improve the car in some way. But it will be in it's current state for a little while as I finish the 240.
Good plan! I began crying on the inside about six months ago when a saw the title of your video Traded my Legacy GT for my dream wagon. I thought you actually did trade your Legacy. stopped watching any of your videos since that. Until I just some day ago realised the title of that video wasn't true. But I took it hard, really thought you would never make any more subaru wagon content. So wrong was I. But now I am a proud subsciber to you hoping for many more videos to come!
Jimmy Hedberg oh no! Haha sorry you thought it was actually gone. Anyone who knows me, knows this car is an attachment of me, so it’s not going anywhere. I have a bunch more planned for it once the 240 is done. Thanks for subscribing!
Love the videos Nick and nicely done! I've been looking at buying a Legacy GT 05-07 but I've noticed that so many listed for sale have had the motors replaced. I thought they were super reliable motors but now I'm not so sure. Subaru's are awesome and I really want one. Maybe you or somebody can shed some light on this. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Thanks dude, love hearing that! It's certainly not uncommon for these cars to have replaced motors, you'd definitely want to inquire why, but if everything that was potentially damaged in what caused the need for replacement was replaced on the rebuild and it was done so properly, it's not always a red flag. As for reliability, I wouldn't put it at the top of the list when it comes to reliability, simply because it is a turbo Subaru engine. That being said, proper maintenance does help a ton, I've had my car for going on 7 years and 40K miles and had no major issues (knock on wood). With these cars getting to be a bit older, they tend to have higher mileage, but if you are looking to pick one up, just make sure to have a proper pre-purchase inspection done. It won't be a guarantee of no issues down the line but it's great piece of mind for very little money.
Hey thanks for replying so quickly. That's great advice. I won't give up on them then just yet. I think the look of these cars is awesome and when all the mods are added both internally and externally, makes them even more appealing. Yours is looking fantastic and caught my eye as I was starting to research these on here. I have a lot to learn. Thanks again!
Mmagz6 of course, I try to respond to everyone. Definitely don’t give up, there is still good options when looking for these cars, you just have to be patient, and potentially be willing to travel or have the car shipped. Also check out LegacyGT.com for a ton of good information.
If your interested I am considering selling a completely rebuild motor and new oem turbo with only 3k miles on the motor and turbo 05 Outback XT. Same as a legacy gt but has fender flares stock and different front bumper. Is professionally tuned to 275whp.
A year late but I have a single cam legacy also (B-Sport) I suggest front and rear sway bar upgrades, bigger wheels and tires maybe 18's, and try get a hold of some steel braided brake lines and bigger and better rotors and calipers. Improving handling is going to be your best mod on the singles. Oh and of course coilovers with dampening adjustments.
ehhhh a downpipe changes the whole dynamic of the car, of course ull need to tune it. but i hear ya. the paint wise, im not sure. this car is made in america. the imprezas and forester of that same era made in japan, imo had better paint quality. my 2006 forester xt still shines like new. altho i have seen some GD imprezas that look like crap just beat up. so i guess it depends on how u take care of them.
A downpipes may not have been the best example, but either way Subaru's are some of the most picky cars in terms of aftermarket parts being installed and needed to be tuned. That's interesting, most of the people I have talked to even with the cars you mentioned being made in Japan still have issues with bad quality paint that chips. Keeping it shiny is one thing and proper care definitely helps with that, but not so much for rock chips.
He doesn’t want this smoke! 😂 In all honesty it would be interesting, the legacy has more power to the wheels, but the wrx is lighter and has better tires. May have to see test it out
@@avengednick Hahaha probably. Keep in mind most people underestimate the Liberty GT, not realising it has the same engine as a WRX. With the work you've put into it, I reckon you'd take a WRX easy! Due to their weight he might take you at the launch, but you'd catch him in the 1/4 mile. 😎😉
Seriously ?? Ok listen: Hate nr. 1: There is a reason for this. How do you think your wheel bearings are doing when you put wider wheels on. Hate nr.2: If you make one small change in an orchestra, it will sound terrible and not in harmony. Same goes with very good programming with engine management. If you make a change, you adjust accordingly. You are basically hating on your fine factory-tuned engine. Hate nr.3: Maybe you should try and not drive so close behind other cars. Also; Subaru paint is not bad. Try any french, italian or cheap british cars and you'll see bad paint. Hate nr4. Your car is designed in Japan. Dont expect it to perform the same in America. Nr.5: I can think of a bunch of stuff. Nice Legacy you have though.
I just did a 6-speed Spec-B swap into mine a month ago. It was great! And then I burnt a valve a couple of weeks ago. Second one in 2 years. :( Now waiting for a new IAG Stage 1+ block, though! BTW - We chatted briefly at the BigNW meet in Portland last year. :)
Stephen Ban hey man, glad you found the channel and thanks for subscribing! That’s rad on the 6 speed swap. Sorry to hear about the engine, but that IAG block is going to be such a nice upgrade! That’s the goal for mine.
I think money shifts and hard launches are the death of all Subaru 5speed owners. I want to do a 2014 sti swap myself cause I’m thinking more track time for my wrx which would be the place where most money shifts and hard launches tend to happen haha if you just road drive your wagon I think sti power levels with the right intercooler and injector setup would be easy for daily life \m/ also the hidden bonus in the 2014 sti swap in my 2009 wrx is slightly more aggressive look since the 14 sti is stock wide body 😍
Nah fam, that ain’t it... Haha but in all seriousness, I’m all for people doing whatever they want to their cars based on what they plan to use it for. I had no intention of taking my car off-road and wanted a car that handled well for spirited driving and twisty roads. If someone is planning to take it off-road/in the mud or snow, definitely lift that thing.

Haha knock on some wood
I've got a 5MT Legacy GT Wagon as well. Things I don't like:
Taller but a lot softer
What would happen if I were to try to 6 speed manual swap my 5 speed automatic Subaru Legacy gt sedan
my only "hate" about this car is I didn't buy a LGT Wagon/Spec-B in 2005 when I was in Denver and I was looking at buying a car...Instead of getting a LGT wagon/Spec-B, NB Miata, RX-8, 9-3 Aero Sportcombi, or (Bug-eye) WRX...I ended up in a 1.8t GTI.
Nice! Is yours the Greddy Evo II? I love this exhaust setup, looks great and sounds amazing.
Average Bros Media It seems to be a similar setup but I don't know if it's the Greddy kit exactly. She's a ripe 175k miles old and I'm her third owner so a lot of equipment I don't know the exact name of.
i.imgur.com/j1OmKHah.jpg
Oh nice, looks a little different but definitely similar styles. I see you're getting good use out of it too!
Average Bros Media Yup, I'll likely be her last owner. Sad to see this body style go. How much is yours at?
7Valletta just rolled over 111k!
Or a Spec-B swap, but I imagine that'd be even harder to find
We have an 08 Spec-B and the 6-speed's been solid
EDIT: @Jiszt called it out already
Joshua Solanes yeah they can be hard to find but that’s definitely a good route to go.
I had an 09 spec b for awhile and miss that trans a lot!
Or get blaster plates for 5-speed
#5 Cabin air filter placement and what it takes to change it.
Yeah you're not wrong on that one... Haha
Patrick Daly nice, those 07’s are a rare fine! I love the dark grey metallic on those too. Thanks for the support!
I hate my 2005 LGT's numb, clueless clutch and lack of torque at low rpms. If I could feel the clutch better, I wouldn't have to over rev and burn said clutch in order to not kill the engine when
trying to start out smoothly from a standstill. I would have a better sense of what the clutch is doing. I compare it to my '87 535is. It does not compare in any way except to disappoint in every
way, including pedal effort.
The lack of room for my size 13 shoes under the dash when working said clutch is alarming and dangerous. I hate that. My toe hangs up during spirited driving, exactly not the time when one
wants this to happen. Driver's position to the clutch sucks too, forcing me to sit much closer to the steering wheel than any sane person would ever wish to sit (except maybe Grandma),
especially in a fairly high performance vehicle. I am a recumbent sort of guy, arms straight at 10 and 2. My clutch foot should still go all the way to the floor. Very hard to do in the LGT without
going " Full Granny".
My Dad's VW Type 2's, '63 and '70, had
better feel and position to clutch. It would be a sick joke to compare this LGT clutch to my 78 Sirocco's.
I got the wagon because it is beautiful to behold, mine in a fiery orange-red. I have owned six wagons in my lifetime. This is the only one I ever had that goes like hell on fire on a frosty winter
morning, when the turbo really kicks ass. My LGT has a Cobb Stage 1 tune and sits on BBS 17" forged wheels that look a lot like the ones on this black wagon, but in silver. They are a little more
sensible in size for a dirt road country life such as mine.
Anything above 90 mph doesn't much interest me
any more, but I sure love the twisties. New springs and Bilsteins all around don't disappoint in that realm.
So Subaru, how come all my backplates are needing replacement at 73K miles? Shame on you for a shit finish on those deeply embedded parts. It will cost a fortune to replace them. All the
hubs will have to be pulled, suspension dismantled on all four corners.
Precision.
Is it possible to convert an auto legacy gt to manual? i'm new to this
Anything is possible with time and money, but if you haven't dumped a ton of money into your car it could be more cost effective to just sell yours and buy a manual.
@@avengednick Thank you. I did more research on this topic. I know it is sometimes expensive and time consuming but in my country manuals are very very rare.
Amazing Legacy, I am looking for a front grill for mine and yours is amazing, can you please give me some information on it (brand, where to buy)?
Thank you! It’s a JDM Spec B Rev D-F grill, you’ll need a jdm bumper to run this grill
But it's subaru ,still love it
Thịnh Nguyễn damn straight!
Spec B 6 speed is where its at. After driving my car around with a bunch of freeway driving after the 6mt swap its perfect. Its like the 5mt, and then you still have another gear for that high speed cruising.
Ahh man, I need to do it! That's the one thing I miss from my spec B.
Even better is EUDM Spec B, you get H6 6 speed wagon with all STI derived goodies :)
@@Kacpa2 Just import a GT B then, they way faster and cheaper.
When he said if I had wood lol 3:58
Bruh the only subarus i really care about r the outbacks and legacy's from this gen of subarus
I won’t argue with you on that haha
Yea I got JDM headlights unknowingly!
kbordenave not bad! I’m not familiar with wiring those up, but I believe there is a full write up on what’s necessary on LegacyGT.com
I hate sitting at 3k rpm just going 80mph. Drove it 8 hours straight and totally thought it'd blow or something
Man I feel this... After multiple trips to and from LA, I know your pain. Haha
I totally agree with the last one I love my gt wagon and most subaru people dont even know they are turbo
They really are great cars!
What about the dash board cracking? I hate that about the legacys
That's definitely a common issue on these cars, I've gotten lucky and haven't had any cracking issues yet. I did have the sticky dash issue, but Subaru replaced it under warranty.
Men I got and 05 legacy sedan and men my dashboard go more cracks in it than the Sahara desert 😂 but it's good tho getting it cover over
randy alexis I’m not sure if it’s still an active recall, but Subaru warranted the dashes for the adhesive coming to the surface. Got a freshie put in my car for free
I think, a glue coming up to the surface is the real issue. The recall ended however.
I have an 05 wagon as well, it's bone stock and a couple things that annoy me are the slow steering and loud cabin, other than that I love it.
bustedrav right on dude! And definitely agree, the +15 STI steering rack is s pretty common upgrade on our cars. I ended up putting dynamat on all 4 doors and it helped a ton.
That glue on beard looks great!
Lol at the fact you think I took the time to glue a beard on 😂
If you 6 speed it... Then also go for that STI swap & drive train mods esp braking power. Go for a 2.5l Cosworth motor 👍 then give it the max size of turbo it can handle.
Are we gonna see the Vf 52 video soon? Kinda interested to know more on it :) keep up the vids almost to 1k subs!
Carlos Palacios that’s an awesome idea, we’ll add it to the list and film it when Louis moves to California.
Get a liberty 6 speed from an Australian liberty, longer 5th and 6th gears and bolts in with 5x100
Interesting, so are the 5th and 6th gears in an AU liberty different than the US spec B?
Average Bros Media I'm not too sure about the usdm ones, but the 6 speeds in the liberty's that Australia have are different from a generic 6 speed from an wrx STI, beIng the centre diff and the ratios
Here's some more details about the 6 speed options - www.alldrivesubaroo.com.au/gearbox/subaru-transmission/
Thanks man, I'll do some reading over the weekend!
The outback of that same year looks exactly the same as a legacy wagon.
They’re similar but have a few differences. The outback is lifted, has different bumpers and hood, has body flares, grille, etc.
I can think of a few 5th things 😂:
- horrible head gasket design
- constant burning /smell of burning oil
- 6 hrs to remove an intake manifold
- TGV? Why subaru…why??
- side mount injectors, starving the final injector/cylinder of fuel when pushing power
- horribly cramped engine bay
- horrible shifter bushing design
- oil filter that clogs the banjo bolt but involves removing your intake and turbo to replace
- horrible oil pickup design that deprives engine of oil
- cheap oil turbo feed lines that crack
- cheap PCV and crankcase tubing that fails often
Haha you’re not wrong… I’ve fixed as many of those issues as I can but unfortunately I’m stuck with the bad headgasket design and right engine bay. Someone say engine swap?
4:01 lol nice car man love it
I am a wrx owner and I know that the outback xt and legacy gt forester xt are all cool
Hell yeah, got to love all the turbo subies!
The 5th thing should be the horrible idea Subaru had to introduce the rubber coating on the interior trim that easily peeled for this generation Legacy. Luckily they replaced the coating with actual matte black paint for the facelift variant of the same gen.
Thats a beautiful wagon man good job🤓
moses vasquez thanks man! Been thinking about what’s next for her lately
4:00 HAHAHA
Talk to people on the forums. Can definitely get more tire under there
Reece M yeah once I switch off the struts/springs and have move adjustability with coilovers or air and some suspension arms I should easily be able to fit the 235’s that I want.
Hey I have a 06 lgt and was wondering where you got that front grill?
Kuzik it’s a jdm honeycomb grill, so it won’t fit a usdm bumper. But you can find them on yahoo auctions Japan or hit up Southbayjdmparts@gmail.com
Definitely do a 6 speed transmission. Subbed👍 your car is sexxxxyyyy😍😍
Nate Lund it’s on the to do list for the next phase of the car. Just need to finish the 240 build. Thanks for the sub man!
Hey mate, would definitely recommend the 6MT. Unbelievable transmission ay. Can totally agree with you about the interior and the head unit too haha
That's the goal for this car once the 240 stops draining my wallet. And right, they're horrible!
What's the BHP on your awesome car? As I can see the steering wheel on yours is located on the wrong side :DDD

Interesting, I owed a 09 spec B for a while and found that in 6th gear at 80mph that the RPM's were lower than 3k if I'm remember correctly.
I agree with this video 100%! Hope to see you next month, and get the wagons together!
We'll definitely get the wagons together, the viewers aren't ready for a double wagon video!
The paint on my 05 OBXT is in much better shape than the tornado red paint on my 2012 Volkswagen
A ton if subaru guys always call my car a wrx, but i didnt debadge my car
Definitely 6 speed swap from spec b
Yeah 5 speed plus an extra gear
5 speed is solid, keep it as long as you can.
Good til around 450 tqu!
I know how awesome our cars are in my opinion other than the newer ones better than a wrx impreza
I Have a 08 legacy debadged with L7 emblem overlays custom headlights and have people ask what it is have people asked if it was a Acura a Lexus even a Nissan maxima lol don't know how someone got that but hey unique factor
Haha yeah, seems like nobody outside of the legacy/some people in the Subaru community have any idea what these cars are.
At least you dont have the sedan that looks like a Honda accord with a hood scoop lol
How long do the engines and transmission usually last?
That depends on a lot of variables. What mods are you running, how much power, a little bit of luck. Some people have engine or trans failure at 50k and some are still driving stock engines/trans at 200K. I will say, proper maintenance goes a LONG way in getting longevity out of your car.
Average Bros Media I'm looking at buying one the owner didn't do any major mods. New invid
ia down pipe, exhaust, HKS BOVs, and top mount.
I'm driving a JDM 2003 legacy 2.0gt spec b, 4.444 final drive provides me aggressive acceleration feel, but it goes more than 3000rpm if I go about 100km/h😂 can you believe I got better fuel economy in the city rather than high way. 😂
where’d you get the front plate frame?
Spycept of of Amazon. It was a pack of 2 with hardware.
Average Bros Media was it a bracket or a frame? so many results lol
It was a set of frames.
My paint on my legacy wagon is not the best either. I am also unfortunate to have tan interior. The rear hatch panel that holds the reverse lights is quite brittle. Japan knows better not to have brittle parts.
Mine was originally a tan interior as well, swapped over a complete black interior with spec b seats and door cards
Totally agree with everything you have mentioned. I want to throw a 6 speed trans into my GT sedan, it was one of the first things I had thought to myself while on a freeway for the first time.
Haha you feel my pain. After owning a Spec B for awhile, I knew I needed to put a 6 speed in the wagon at some point.
@@avengednick what would happen if i did a 6seed manual swap to a 5 speed automatic legacy gt
6 speed swap, it’s worth it for MPG and reliability
How many extra MPGs does it
get you?
Only thing I hate about my 05lgt is the dashboard rattle/creek noise...
Yeah, the typical Subaru rattle's are brutal... Mine just started rattling on the driver side of the dash recently.

It got worse after the airbag and dashboard replacement recall. Sounds like squirrels fighting over nuts in my compartment

I know I’m late, but a 6 speed swap is hella expensive!
It’s expensive, but so worth it! I miss the 6 speed I had in my 09 Spec B
I don’t get why people with sleeper cars put on stupid wheels and banners that make it look fast.
Average Bros Media and I’m definitely not shitting on your car, I love how it looks but it’s not a sleeper.
Word, I can see where you're coming from. It definitely rides the line of being a sleeper, in my opinion. Sounds like you're pretty familiar with Subaru's so you'd recognize a Legacy GT, most people don't even look twice, they think it's just another soccer mom wagon. Haha
Average Bros Media yeah sorry I didn’t mean to be a dick at all but I totally agree haha.
I own 2005 outback xt on legacy suspension. I run 245 / 45 17 on 35 + offset. The wagon looks Stout . I also hate my highway 5th gear also .
David Cordero damn, the smaller wheel and different offset must give you a bit more room. If I ran a 245 as it sits right now I’d run hard af.
The outbacks have wider flares, that's why they can fit 245 wide tires. Here's a nicely modified outback xt (same year as yours) bringatrailer.com/2018/02/21/sti-for-the-family-nicely-modded-2005-subaru-outback-xt/
The outback flares are actually solely aesthetic, they don't add any extra clearance for wide wheels. But I've always loved the red on that Outback.
Interesting, never knew that. I thought they were wider to allow the extra movement for off road driving while also allowing wider tyres
Leave the car the way it is right now. It is perfect!
You are awsome man!
Jimmy Hedberg thanks man! I’ve got some exciting stuff planned that I’m stoked to share with you guys. Any particular content you’d like to see?
Anyone had suggestions on what I should to with my single cam legacy ?
A year late but I have a single cam legacy also (B-Sport) I suggest front and rear sway bar upgrades, bigger wheels and tires maybe 18's, and try get a hold of some steel braided brake lines and bigger and better rotors and calipers. Improving handling is going to be your best mod on the singles. Oh and of course coilovers with dampening adjustments.
Ik I’m late to the video but I own a 2002 wrx and I wanted a legacy gt so badly!!
ehhhh a downpipe changes the whole dynamic of the car, of course ull need to tune it. but i hear ya. the paint wise, im not sure. this car is made in america. the imprezas and forester of that same era made in japan, imo had better paint quality. my 2006 forester xt still shines like new. altho i have seen some GD imprezas that look like crap just beat up. so i guess it depends on how u take care of them.
What exhaust r u running?
Muhammad Qassoum it’s a Greddy Evo
outback is pretty close to a legacy, i drive a liberty which is the same thing
LOONG intro, list starts at 1:59 !!
Did you see the guy in the background
Is it a good car to own,
Absolutely, I've owned it for almost 7 years now and love this car.
Not sure about your back bumper bro but nonetheless great video. Subscribed
I'm with you on that. I used to not mind it, but the more I look at it the more I want to switch it out for a JDM one. And thanks for the sub!
Good video bro, would love to see it VS a WRX!
Ok listen:
Hate nr.
Keep them coming love your videos!!
Thanks man! Anything particular you'd like to see in future videos?
I read some other comments and saw you had a spec b and sold it? That was a mistake 😂
I do miss that car, but the I'm just a wagon guy at the end of the day!
I just did a 6-speed Spec-B swap into mine a month ago. It was great! And then I burnt a valve a couple of weeks ago. Second one in 2 years. :(
Now waiting for a new IAG Stage 1+ block, though!
That was dumb
As a detailer subaru paint is the worse on the market
Ive only ever experienced shit with my 06 subaru. Electrical problems and head gasket problems. All stock, all garbage. Fuck these cars
Loosen a bolt, tune the car… hehehe 😂
Watch at 3:58 seconds the dude in the background grabs his stuff lol
Yea do 6spd swap bro...I regret selling my ap3....any1 got 1 for sale?
Do this car uses oil filter
Yes
There’s a dude who runs 500hp in a 08 wrx same tranny and everything.
That’s super impressive! I’m worried about blowing mine to pieces with just over 300 to the wheels 😂
Ill be doing the 6speed swap in my legacy wagon
Sick! I’m not looking forward to the cost to do the swap but I’m stoked to have a 6-speed in the wagon
@@avengednick my dood outsourcing scrap yards and "rightoffs" can find the juiciest of all gold finds.
nice wagon mate ! i got a Sedan version :P
Thanks man! Got to love these cars
Isn’t it a 2.0t ?
Fuji Wags the US model has a 2.5T
My dad has that car it's just its silver and it's from Japan
dude, you gotta change that rear bumper..
Haha I'm torn, not so much on the look of the bumper, but I love the look and sound of my exhaust.
Average Bros Media pretty sure you'd love the way a JDM bumper will look more!
If you call yourself a Subaru guy or girl or whatever and not know about this car you need some serious reevaluation
Can't argue with that! This is easily one of the top 3 model Subaru ever made, although I may be a little bias. Haha
Lowered? You're supposed to lift it bro
Nah fam, that ain’t it...
Haha but in all seriousness, I’m all for people doing whatever they want to their cars based on what they plan to use it for. I had no intention of taking my car off-road and wanted a car that handled well for spirited driving and twisty roads. If someone is planning to take it off-road/in the mud or snow, definitely lift that thing.
the dude at 4:00
