I picked up a 2008 Subaru Liberty (Australian Legacy) 3.0R a few months back with the flat 6. It drives like it's on rails and just takes off like a rocket at any speed. What a car!
This owner mods stuff *EXACTLY* how I like to mod. All about handling and daily userability. No stupid interior mods, striping it out, stancing, far cannon exhaust, ratting, stupid dangling thing on a OTT tow hook. Instead, making it useable, comfortable and tasteful. Like as if it was a factory performance option(s). Stealth modding FTW.

The Spec B is essentially the "STi" Legacy, where the GT is the Legacy "WRX" for the USDM. The legacy was the "grown up" version of the Impreza; so no big spoilers, a more comfortable ride while still being relatively quick and handling relatively well. Fun fact, the chassis of the WRX shown in this video is based on this gen legacy.
The legacy was the original impreza, it used to be subarus small quick sporty model. When the impreza came along and filled that slot, the legacy turned into a more gentle, smooth daily driver that still had some of the sporty left in it. I drive an N/A 2010 legacy 2.5i and, while it certainly isnt the fastest car in the road, it still has a bit of power and sport hidden under its "mom car" appearance. Bringing it on the highway, putting it in manual mode and climbing the tac is where its inner impreza comes out.
@Methamphetameme in VT, finding any subaru without storage places for cocaine in the frame and rockers is impossible. I have a imoreza and a project wrx, but may sell them both if ibfind a clean legacy like this, in good shape. Brilliant car. You lucky shit.
"All of the go and none of the bro." I've always loved the legacy's from 05-09 because of that. Nice looking sedan, fun to drive, doesn't draw too much attention
As an Impreza owner of the same year (2008), I wholeheartedly agree. I'd have gone for a Legacy if I could have found one I could afford, but I'm still happy with my Impreza (even if it doesn't look at good). Legacy wagons of that generation were especially nice looking. Shame we're not going to get the Levorg any time soon (if ever).
as it is the legacy is more for the "adult" sense where as the wrx and Sti are for the more "boyracer" I love the in your faceness of the Sti then again I'm 22 maybe when I'm older I'll grow outta that.
Yemi Joel I'm 25 and I drive a T5 volvo lol. I like the sleeper factor of it because NO one tries to race. Doesn't draw any attention from cops either, but every single person I've given a ride in it has been impressed. But my car is really about comfort and reliability more than going fast. If I wanna go fast, I have bikes for that
Mr. Regular always hits the nail on the head with the typical Suba-Bro references. Here is a real life example of one I encountered several years ago. Once upon a time, I was pulling into a gas station in my new-to-me Acura Integra. It was the first car I ever saved up for and bought myself, and I was very proud of it. It was very clean for the age and price I paid. But I digress. As I was pulling in, an acquaintance of mine whom I knew from some car meets flagged me down and I pulled in to chat. He was with a friend of his whom I did not recognize, let's call him Bro-skee. Bro-skee was driving a Subaru STI, the hatch one. Of course, since we are car people, we started speaking in car speak. My acquaintance started asking me about my new car and exclaimed that he liked it. Us talking about another person's car must have upset Bro-skee, because he quickly interjected. Bro-skee proceeded to start talking up his STI like it was the second coming of Jesus. He said his STI could pull away from my Integra at half throttle, and essentially that my car is nothing compared to his. He literally insulted my car right in front of my face. All of this without ANY advances on my part. I like Subarus. I've always been interested in owning one, but now whenever I stop and think about getting one, I think of this interaction.
Don’t let one interaction change your view on Subaru owners! You always get one in the pack that is like this.. I always complement anyones build if I don’t like something I would say but not go to the length of disowning the person car.. you get that with everyone car fan boy that think there car model is the best.. any real car enthusiast appreciates all cars with there pros and cons
Ya really it is... my fiance and I bought a 2014 hatch for her when the 2015 first came out and we test drove some which I came out of feeling like it was just a regular car unlike my 05 sti at all. I do think that the fa motor in the new wrx is much better than the ej is though.

2007 Spec B here, love it! I get asked more often than any car I've had if I want to sell it. Love the sound, look, leg room, and how it drives. Great video...
You don't think the Spec B has any amenities? There was only one way to get the Spec B and that was absolutely loaded with every option the legacy had.
This car exemplifies earlier Subaru's charm through its wonderful and untentional weirdness. The cool looking framless doors that constantly rattled. The electroluminescent gauges that lit up everytime you start the engine. Now as Regular says, they are turning more into white goods for the masses.
The head gasket leak issue doesn't apply to the version of the 2.5 that is in the spec b. As for the other versions that do have the head gasket issue, instead of doing it 6 times, you could just replace the leaking head gasket once and do it correctly so you never have to do it again.
Trevors Mail box is that correct about the turbo thing? I've got a ninety six Legacy GTB so it's twin turbo, it's got eighty five thousand kilometres on it and I'm just waiting for a head gasket to need replacing
Nestea Iced tea You have what is known as a "Phase 1" EJ if you have a 96 model. The head gasket issue affected the "Phase 2" EJ, and even then, it affected naturally aspirated engines more than the turbo ones.
1996-1998 Subaru Legacy GT-B and GT-B Limited. Pretty much the same cars just ten years older (you wouldn't think it, they were ahead of their time) just with a 2.0, 5 speed and twin turbos, which can be swapped to single relatively easily. A great all-round car and one of the most underappreciated cars ever.

You don't think the Spec B has any amenities? There was only one way to get the Spec B and that was absolutely loaded with every option the legacy had.
In 2008
Mr Regular, you make some of the only RUclips videos I can watch multiple times and still be interested. Thanks for producing quality material.
Wait is that guy from gears and gasoline?
I think this is some of RCR's best work, especially the ending. There's so much attention to detail!
"It's TOO HARD!" said no woman EVER. :D
I watch a lot of car review channels and this is my new fave haha
lmao the Russian annotation.
"Do not use translation"
I've seen this video probably more than 3 times, just realizing that this is BEN.
But...the STi is offered as a sedan...
theshonen8899
only Americans have a hang up about hatchbacks.
Yea, I think he meant sedan like an accord/camry since the STis used to be small.
Roman knocked it out of the park this week with the music, keep up the good work RCR.
PLATE GOES OUT. PLATE GOES IN. PLATE GOES OUT. PLATE GOES IN.
It's Ben from gears and gasoline!
Cool to see him here!
BTW he sold it for a mazda rx7 lol so much for keeping it forever.
someone hit my spec b today in a hit in run...
awesome
shut the fuck up that's mean to say awesome
thentantt Was it a Mustang?
Brian Brian no clue. didn't see. happened while I was inside at a friend's place.
so sorry man. someone did the same to my Subaru Brat last month. fucking VW golf.
What a birthday present! I own the 3.0L non-turbo version of this and the video came out on my birthday.
Gears and Gasoline anyone? lol
Danteofsparda2237 me!

Gears and Gasoline wow, hi guys! love your vids :D
its kinda neat seeing youre 5 minutes from my house in this video while reviewing a car ive wanted for so long. all signs point towards buy one.
Can you review a Pontiac Solstice (whatever year is the latest)? I want to know your thoughts on that attempt to make a sporty roadster.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG
"as reassuring as Patton Oswalt's voice" lol
Am I the only one that recognized the owned of this SpecB as one of the guys from Gears & Gasoline? :D
The UK 'R spec.B' has Auto gearboxes and manuals AND wagon variants.

Mr. Regular, back in rare form. The Spec B was one of the last great Subarus sold in the USA.
symmetrical TIRE DESTRUCTION
That was outro had some sick harmony, Roman. Do more like it please!
I really want a spec b wagon. I'm not even sure they made the spec b in wagon form.
they did~
they did
Shawn Burnham They did but it was never sold in the United States.
Martin Skoda nice man, I got a 2001 GT-B with the same twin turbo, it's been great, with a $5k entry price, they are incredible bang for buck
97I30T it was never sold in Canada either, you guys just have to ease up on your stingy Mercedes-induced importation policy
".... his desire to start a TRIUMVIRATE"
You owe me a new monitor Mr. Regular. It's a Dell Ultrasharp U2415
I could really go for a Wawa turkey, stuffing and gravy sub right now...
Had a shitty day at work today and now it's all better, thank you Mr Regular for making my shitty Monday better.
RCR and JonTron upload on the same day. Today is a good day.
Beautifully written and spot on as usual guys. Great job.
PLEASE review my 2002 WRX wagon with automatic transmission. Its also a stage 2, and its an automatic. By the way its an automatic.
Tetris metaphors were on point this week RCR. Nice review!
do a 1995 Honda accord
the best thing about buying a subaru is the owners community is HUGE so you can always find help when you need it most.
3:50 Lord Vader?
This car exemplifies earlier Subaru's charm through its wonderful and untentional weirdness. The cool looking framless doors that constantly rattled. The electroluminescent gauges that lit up everytime you start the engine. Now as Regular says, they are turning more into white goods for the masses.
the sti is a sedan isn't it?
Bryan Morrison ok imagine this like a legacy B4, but an sti. but yes the impreza sti is a sedan
This is by far the greatest video I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
*Vape*
I want one, but with H6 engine, they have one of the most beautiful voices.
is it me
nope
4K Subaru enthusiast will be hunting this model car down now....thanks RCR, these things just went up in value over night ;)
6 head gaskets later... junk... Lexus for life
The head gasket leak issue doesn't apply to the version of the 2.5 that is in the spec b. As for the other versions that do have the head gasket issue, instead of doing it 6 times, you could just replace the leaking head gasket once and do it correctly so you never have to do it again.
Jason K gr8 b8 m8.
Jason K you only should be required to replaced once these subarus go forever minus the turbo mishaps
