FILM DESCRIPTION:
After learning that his father is dying, karate master Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita) returns home to Okinawa, bringing his protege, Daniel (Ralph Macchio), with him. In Japan, Miyagi is surprised to discover that his old sweetheart, Yukie (Nobu McCarthy), has remained single. Meanwhile, Daniel is attracted to Yukie's niece, Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita). But romance must be put on hold while Daniel and Miyagi deal with local bullies and long-harbored grudges.

The irony of yelling racial slurs at an Asian man while practicing a Japanese martial art and having a Korean master, Kreese really is a piece of work. I hope Cobra Kai 5 will give him a redemption arc.
It wasn't until I was older that I realized that it was racial slurs. And learning the history behind words such as "slope"...it's horrible.

But at the same time, makes it more badass. Like Kreese says it as in “lol no mercy for nerds.” Miyagi’s version here is more “if they challenge you, they are your enemy. KILL THEM.”
Probably because Miyagi also at one point showed "no mercy". But as Johnny Lawrence once said, there's a difference between showing no mercy and showing no honor, something Miyagi learned but Kreese didn't.

There is one interesting takeaway from this scene- the thing Miyagi says about why he spared Kreese, he may have been referring to himself, because if he killed Kreese he would not have been able to live with himself. Miyagi never considered Kreese as his enemy, hence why he spared him in the hopes he would use it to do serious soul searching.
"Daniel-san, too many witnesses. I no want do hard time."
plus i believe Miyagi-san used to served the war, and a veteran like him see the loss and the sadness that came with it, the damage not just to the body, but the soul of someone.
Miyagi didn't gain using strength but intelligence, he really is a legendary master who used Kreese rage against Himself. Karate it's Brain above everything.
I love how Mr Miyagi will defend someone who is being bullied. He had to beat up Johnny to save Daniel, but then he saved Johnny when his life was in danger. After watching Cobra Kai Johnny was just as much a victim of bullying as Daniel. In a way it was worse for Johnny because Kreese abused a position of trust. Kreese was the true bully. Johnny was a victim too.
Johnny was let down by his stepfather,his sensei,and God knows who else.
Johnny needed that fateful encounter at the mini mart to redeem and redirect himself.
Actually Johnny did have some good in him he just got pressured just like Barnes later on but Banres was getting paid a lot. They had no Class but him in the 3rd one. The second one I wish they had a tournament
Miyagi really embodies his philosophy of "Karate shouldn't be used to attack, only to defend." He doesn't put his hands up, and he always waits for his opponent to strike before countering. It's kind of his way of saying "If you want to walk away, that's perfectly fine with me. If you want to continue to fight, I'm ready for you."

1) 0:53 and 1:04--Kreese tries to throw the first punch ("Strike first"), but b/c Mr. Miyagi moves out of the way, Kreese ends up missing and hitting windows instead (he ended up "striking hard" the windows, causing his fists to be lacerated with millions of glass fibers)
2) 1:15--Mr. Miyagi repeated Kreese's speech to his students about showing "no mercy" and then at 1:30, Mr. Miyagi is about to show "no mercy" and deliver what could have been a fatal blow to a petrified Kreese...
...Kreese almost had someone use his own philosophy on him!

This scene is very profound to me. Having compassion for those who have wrong us and showing mercy to the foolish.

Kreese must've flipped out when Johnny called him sick in a mental way because, that's how Kreese mother died and that blood on Kreese hands probably reminded Kreese of his mother taking her life. I'm just saying that I think would be a good storyline to why Kreese lost it in Cobra Kai, when young Kreese flipped out over Betsy's football jock boyfriend reminding Kreese of his mother dying!

As somebody else pointed out in this comments section, it is wild how in The Karate Kid 2, this moment has basically no relation to the rest of the movie other than just being the intro and the setup for Daniel honking Chozen's nose, but it is a full blown plot point that lasts throughout multiple seasons in Cobra Kai.
It affected the 3rd movie first
