Aladdin opened to critical acclaim on March 20th, 2014 and went on to receive 24 major theatrical award nominations. Entertainment Weekly has deemed Aladdin “Broadway’s biggest new hit!” USA Today raves, “Pure GENIE-US! Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, the showfeatures music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Sister Act), lyrics by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice (Evita, Aida) and four-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Beguelin, and is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).
Aladdin stars Adam Jacobs (Les Miserables, The Lion King) in the title role, Courtney Reed (In the Heights, Mamma Mia) as Jasmine,James Monroe Iglehart (Memphis, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) in his Tony Award-winning role as Genie, and, as Jafar, Tony Award nominee Jonathan Freeman (Mary Poppins, The Producers, She Loves Me) brings to the stage the role he indelibly created in the animated film. The show also stars Brian Gonzales, Brandon O’Neill and Jonathan Schwartz as Aladdin’s sidekicks Babkak, Kassim and Omar, Clifton Davis as Sultan and Don Darryl Rivera as Iago. Merwin Foard and Michael James Scott stand by for several principals.
In a cast of 34, Aladdin also features Tia Altinay, Mike Cannon, Andrew Cao, Lauryn Ciardullo, Joshua Dela Cruz, Yurel Echezarreta, Daisy Hobbs, Donald Jones, Jr., Adam Kaokept, Nikki Long, Stanley Martin, Brandt Martinez, Michael Mindlin, Amber Owens, Bobby Pestka, Khori Michelle Petinaud, Ariel Reid, Jennifer Rias, Trent Saunders, Jaz Sealey, Dennis Stowe, Marisha Wallace, Travis Ward-Osborne and Bud Weber.

No doubt! I'd love to meet him!
When I realized that the musical would be bringing back this song, I got super emotional. It resonates with so many people. I do want my dad to be proud of me, but it's an uphill battle because of things I'm proud of (dancing and improving my singing) are things my dad could care less about. I'm so glad this was brought back. Howard and Alan have a special place in my heart. Hopefully I can scrape up what I have and see this before it's too late.

"i'll do my best what else can i do, since i wasn't born perfect like dad or you" my favorite line, it just hits me deep for some reason. howard would be proud! love these two
"I wasn't born perfect, like dad or you" meaning that they weren't born perfect either or that they are perfect, unlike me?

Aladdin is projecting the guilty and bitter thoughts of many children whose parents often set unrealistic expectations for them, and he wants to become the kind of man a mother would be proud of despite him not having reached those heights yet as he's still a diamond in the rough at this point in the story.
I been reading up. He's literally been playing Aladdin since the first reading in 2010 and in Canada and Seattle and now broadway... I'm impressed that he can do these songs and play the role without it being by rote or feeling boring by now

Brilliant song! Brilliantly sung by Adam. It touches me deep in my soul. I think at some level we all want our parents to be proud of us. That they recognize we have become a good, kind, compassionate and loving individual free of hate, racism, bigotry and division.

If I may say, Adam Jacobs' and Clay Aiken's performances of "Proud of Your Boy" are all very well, but NOBODY can better Alan Menken's original demo. His voice is just the most beautiful that I've heard in all my 19-year-long life.
