We were trained to hold the sigmas very high at the front of the handle on a score and then you snap the tile on the back of the handle which provides leverage. The larger sigmas such as the 3a,3b4, etc all have a groove in the handle where you should be placing your fingers for the scoring part of the cut. This provided maximum scoring power, if you do not provide enough pressure on your first score you're snap will be effected. Great Video! I appreciate the time you took to make this! Happy tiling!
I'm not a professional tiler, but I decided to tile my garage by myself two years ago and I bought a DIY cut tiler: it made a good job and I didn't have any problem with the cuts, everything was perfect. But obviously you should buy this DIY for simple and little project, with time and jobs the professional brand will make the difference....
I would love to see how you feel after using Sigmia’s Max series. The problem I had when selecting a tile cracker is thinking the brands was the difference. I did my research and decided on sigma. The only problem was even the pro tile stores only carried the klick klock series. Once on the job site it did not meet expectations. It went back. Sigma has at least four levels with 6-8 different sizes per level. Not to mention different wheels for different materials. It’s really hard to put different brands head to head. My 4’ sigma max can crack down to 1/4” inch. Not that you’d ever really use it. My big thing is play in the handle and slop, sigma has none. I’d rather buy once and give it to my grand kids in 50 years.
There's actually a massive difference between pull and push in terms of how much pressure you put on the scoring wheel. Push is way better in my opinion because of the mechanical advantage you have.
I don't know how you guys do this tile work. My 14 year son and me just done with a 12 hundred sq ft house floor and it was so much work needs and back are tired but it was worth it. Love teaching my kids how to work.
Thanks for the video. After watching your video I bought a cheap tile cutter 1st, struggled with it. Dual rail system is flawed because of the flex. Sadly total waste of money (for me). Was not going to even start any work with it. Put it aside & went shopping.. got the Sigma ART2G (same model as this video) and difference is night and day. My take is this.. If you are saving on labour go buy yourself the Sigma. The cheap one will just waste your time, and be so much harder to work with. You don’t need this hassle.
That Sigma is awesome, cuts like buttahhh! I have a Rubi and sometimes scoring long ways down a 24" porcelain tile, when I snap it, the tile does not cut straight, the cut line curves off of the score line, so then I have to take it to the wet saw to straighten it out to get the cut that should have scored and snapped. this has done this since day one. Rubi tech support told me to go buy a 5 wheel kit and try one of the other wheels, with some success, but issue still remains. Anyone else seen this issue?
Great comparision mate. Where the tile cutters really shine is when your ripping a smaller piece say 10-15mm approx 3/8 - 5/8, even the sigma sometimes struggles to get clean cuts without some breakages.
I bought a cheap cutter from lowes for subway tiles and it was so worth every penny. It aint great but they are good enough for the job..and perfect for the price imo
Great video as always Lanberg very thoroughly explained like all your videos, I have always owned and used sigma's for over 10 years i wouldnt use any other cutter because of there quality design and hard wearing components. In my view they are the best cutters on the market, and a tip to keep it looking new and the bar sliding easily and freely for perfect cutting use silicone spray on the bar and other components to keep it running smoothly and efficiently, love your high quality and informative content. All the best and keep up the fine work Sir 👌
At 11.27 min The sigma breaks The corner of The tile. Of You watch close You can see it spring away and falls on The fence ciro plate. And You keep your finger in The part thats broken 😊
I use always Sigma cutters. My opinion is, Sigma is the best manual tile cutter in every size. I bought a Dewalt wet tile saw too. Thank for the videos! Greetings. Your follower from Hungary 😉
Great job brother! I have always lived upon the belief of "you get what you pay for" and haven't proved myself wrong just too awfully many times. Thanks for the Video! 👍
Nice video. Can you test rail wet saws? Please I love Sigma I have the 14in cutter to the XL cutter. From 2x2 tile to 80in x 48 in tile panel. 🤔 or what ever they are. Big pc. Sigma will last for long long long long time. The biggest challenges is Thin long cuts. I have made some 5/8 in by 48 in In porcelain. 👍🏼
You should also do a video of both after a month of use. Due to the fact that the "cheap" snapper has a brand new wheel. After a couple weeks with the QEP tile cutter the guides for me always got out of line while the handle also got out of line and had to push the handle a certain way to make cuts straight.
Your high-gloss hard porcelain being cut on the sigma cracked unevenly on the handle end. You edited the video to immediately show a perfect cut and said "and again a very clean cut on the Sigma", but you missed a split second of the porcelain that broke/cracked on the end, (9:30sec mark). Why not be honest about this? Nice cutter though.
The $20 cutter would almost make the job more difficult. That sigma cutter looks like a nice quality tool and well worth the added expense. Really enjoy your tool reviews, nice job.
I have the cheap one, one test he unfortunately didn't do is how straight a cut it is...I usually find it's always a slight angle on cuts because the wheel has a lot of play
@@unwelcomemotivation I've used the cheap cutter with excellent results, I've basically got both of them in the video. That cheap one can be tweaked to work well, I grabbed one I think when I was working out of town and was just kind of surprised that it worked and tiled the whole bathroom that I was working on
@@bolerdweller So I've actually upgraded to a sigma since then, I managed to finish the bathroom I was doing as well but that's only because I also have a wet saw. I coudn't cut hard porcelain with the cheap cutter (the rails bend) and I could't make finished edge cuts. With the sigma I can give it a quick polish with a sanding stone and it can be installed in the middle of the floor! I agree, though, If you don't need finish edges or have a wet saw for that a cheap one can definitely be good enough!! I also didn't do any adjustments, I could see just tightening the wheel even making a big difference.
@@unwelcomemotivation yeah I've got a 3' sigma and another sigma similar to the video but a bit bigger. I can quite get them to snap hard porcelain properly, I also dont know how to set them up properly though height wise. I'm sure that's user error as I've seen what these snappers can do on here. I just end up making more cuts on my wet tile saw than I should
The problem with the cheaper version is they are more likely to get damaged in transit or on the job. Sigma’s can take a beating and still cut a straight line. Where as the cheaper version poles can be bent easily and will stop cutting straight.
You are Catching the handle in the wrong place you need to be more forward you can apply more pressure if needed that way and use the back for Snapping, I have the older version of this cutter for about 12 years and ive yet to change the wheel great cutter for small area or up on a platform doing the top cuts if the tile will fit of course. its great for kitchen sized tile like subway and 4x4
I have the cheap one, I do regular renovations, bathrooms etc. Coming from using a wetsaw and grinder for everything...I notice my cuts are on a slight angle, even an 8th of inch different on 4" tile...would the sigma cut straighter? I think it's the loose wheel that has too much play on it?
Those Sigma cutters were the top of the line back in the late 90's early 2000's. That $20 dollar cutter would be fine for 4and1/4 ceramic and small thin 6x6 red clay back.
You have your hand way up on the sigma handle you should have it down by cutting wheel. You get better control of power needed to score certain materials. That sigma will take off 3/8 of an inch off the edge of some materials. I don’t see the $20 cutter doing that.
Landberg!!!! Did you out all that truck footage in there for me???🤣🤣🤣 Great video as always bud, keep Killin it, man I want you to know that little by little you're giving me the motivation to tackle out master bath!!! The price of the Sigma is 298USD not 120USD, either you guys in the US have a serious inflation or they raised the price because of good advertisement... for that price I would reccomend to go for the Montolit which is far more popular and probably has a better quality..!
Which do you prefer my friend? The sigma or your monotilt? Do you use your monotilt on most jobs my friend. I’m ready to take the leap but I’m stuck between the both and over ISHII lol🤙🏽🙏💯
I don't have much experience with the Sigma, so my opinion might not be the right one. Both are built very well, I'm sure one of the two will be a great choice! I'll give the new larger Sigma a review soon (with the spring handle).👊
Montolit is better, no need for adjust when tile thickness varies, it lubricates cutting wheel which increases wheel longevity and also score better, breaking foot has 2 options wider and slightly narrow etc.
@@mickymeltdown Yes and no, most cases i measure width of tile and use built-in scale so i don't need to look cut line at all.
If i need tile that other end is wider it's better to mark pencil line near bottom edge of tile, because there is narrow metal ridge where tile rest so i just align my marks on that ridge and scoring wheel will be above it and cuts perfect piece again i didn't need to see where cutting wheel was. So yes it's hard if you try look scoring wheel but if you use that middle metal ridge as your guide it's easy.

Approximately $100 I'm interested in cutting 12x24" hard porcelain and subways 6x12 4x12 6x24
ishii cutters were always great cutters. The video shows a sigma 2g they are around 200 they cut up to 14" tile straight a 3b4 cuts a 26". The cutters go up in price based on the type of scoring mechanism, Pulls tend to be less the push max and klick klocks are much more money but provide more breaking power. The 2g is a great cutter but with tile getting thicker the 6mm bar will struggle with some cuts. The 8mm bar and 10mm bar cutters provide much more power.

Nice little edit at 9:30. No shame in showing the sigma messed up that one snap. There is a lot of human error when snapping on good AND bad snappers
yes! human error and lack of back up tile for the video. I learned my lesson, thanks for being polite on that one, I appreciate it.
