This song is very haunting to listen to after his death. It's essentially about him waiting for death, and Chris was known to suffer from depression, so to know years ago that he wrote a song like this about waiting for death to come and take him leaves me with a very sad feeling. The song is beautiful but it takes on even more weight after his tragic passing

Fell on Black Days and Nothing Compares 2 U both from his Sirius XM live studio show are some of the best showcases of his voice. Nothing Compares 2 U gets all the love because of what the song is and his rendition is so heartfelt, but I think his vocals shine more on that Sirius version of Fell on Black Days. Also, Hunger Strike or Say Hello to Heaven both by Temple of The Dog are great showcases of his vocals…along with Eddie from Pearl Jam. Some of Chris’ best range is shown in “show me how to live” by audioslave, and hunger strike by temple of the dog. Chris was the man, and highly respected across a lot of genres of music.
First time watching one of your videos. Really like you “break-down” style, more than just a “reaction”. I’ll definitely be checking out more videos. Chris is part of that 80-90s rock era where the songs meant one thing to them, but they encourage fans to take any meaning that helped them from a song. Before you could just look up a meaning, you would be in your car or laying on the floor listening to music and just contemplating meaning in lyrics.
Stevie, as someone has already mentioned about Chris being the former lead singer of Soundgarden, it’s also worth noting that lead guitar for Audioslave was Tom Morello, current lead guitarist of Rage Against The Machine. So combining Tom’s extremely unique style that we hear in RATM with Chris’ legendary voice made for an incredible match. Check out more Audioslave. You’ll love it.
Stevie you should check out "In My Time of Dying" or "When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin. The way they could use old blues songs and transform them is pretty amazing
And of course there's Chris' very Robert Plant vocalisation in early Soundgarden songs, for eg; in Beyond the Wheel, Germany, early 90's, as he builds up to the line, then just lets rip at 'Mother, who's your man.... etc' the ability, power and belting strength at that range he hits is phenomenal, defs in Plants territory and just so raw and unrefined yet, still finding his voices true potential. What a tragic loss, depression is no joke. RIP legend.
This is my fav song of all time, I listen to it multiple times a week. I'm so happy you went into this blond. Chris Cornell is one of the greatest singer/song writers of all time.
The Bass player described that the song is about an old man waiting for death. He sits in a house alone after all his friends and family have passed on before him. He is waiting to be reunited with them. Chris Cornell said this song was about finding God through means other than the traditional monotheistic way of thinking. Which both makes sense based on this phrase. “To anyone who will take me to haven. To a place I recall, I was there so long ago.“. Heaven in this case would be being with the people metaphorically lost. To anyone who will take me there makes sense in the context of getting to heaven in a non traditional monotheistic way. Also that video is shot is Jimi Hendrix’s old house where he wrote “Purple Haze.”.
Sad thing about this particular track is that he's literally singing to death (the "Grim Reaper") waiting for him.. "In your house, alone to be.. Room by room, patiently. I'll wait for you here, like a stone.." So beautifully written and sung, but so haunting at the same time. R.I.P Chris Cornell, the greatest vocalist of all time 💐💯
@@brcage either way, he is talking about death. There are certain interviews where he talks about it in depth. He was very curious about the afterlife and all that years before he died. Edit: read the lyrics carefully, specifically the verses, not the chorus. Almost every line is referencing death.
@@angeladavis9254 and what difference does that make? None, he's still talking about death. Why is that so hard to understand? lol I guess if you can relate it's easier to understand? Maybe? I mean, it's not like suicide/death is a foreign subject to him in his music (with both bands).

"In your house, alone to be.. Room by room, patiently. I'll wait for you here, like a stone.."
So beautifully written and sung, but so haunting at the same time.
R.I.P Chris Cornell, the greatest vocalist of all time 💐💯
It doesn't say "alone to be"... he say 'I long to be'... and what he's referring to is the presence of GOD.
@@brcage either way, he is talking about death. There are certain interviews where he talks about it in depth. He was very curious about the afterlife and all that years before he died.
Edit: read the lyrics carefully, specifically the verses, not the chorus. Almost every line is referencing death.
@@brcage Yes.
But it's I long to be.
@@angeladavis9254 and what difference does that make? None, he's still talking about death.
Why is that so hard to understand? lol
I guess if you can relate it's easier to understand? Maybe? I mean, it's not like suicide/death is a foreign subject to him in his music (with both bands).
Miss his voice..left this world too soon!❤🤟
RIP Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington
Yesssss @stevieknight !!!! Chris Cornell was gifted beyond belief and his music gets you lost in it
Play his version of Billie Jean. He was so fucking talented ♥️
My favorite song ever, 2nd fave: Crawling by Linkin Park Live with Chris Cornell… tragedy we lost two of the best voices in music when we lost Chris and Chester💔
If you haven’t already, check out Chris Cornell’s version of Billie Jean. You won’t be disappointed.
This is one of those super bands, where everybody is good. Each instrument, as simple as it sounds, is just gooooood.
