I was at this very show when this was recorded. 2005 Red Rocks Colorado. Her hair was blowing she had this flowing gold dress with a wrap and it blew with the wind so beautifully she looked like a goddess. Great show.
Tori, Kate, Imogen, Enya... theirs are the kind of voices that, as soon as I listen... all of my negativity, self-hate, doubt and fear disappears. They're the only drug I need.
I was at this show. September 5th, 2005 Red Rocks. 3rd row. When she played this song it literally shook me to the core. The entire amphitheater was vibrating as her keyboard hit certain resonate frequencies. It was so fucking sad and slow and hauntingly beautiful...I literally have goosebumps just thinking about it. Her mom was in the hospital at that time and they weren't sure if her mom was going to make it. Something was going on with her heart. So when she was playing this song, singing "if I only could make a deal with God / get him to swap our places", she was singing about her mom. 💔 Too. Fucking. Real. 😭😭😭
it is INTENSE!! i just heard a powerful interview with her on a podcast called GASLITNATION. She explains a very strong connection with her mother. RIP🌹
I was watching a Kate Bush doc in which Tori was interviewed and she said the first time she heard this song she was driving and she had to pull over and listen to it cause it was so good.
Absolutely love Kate Bush and Tori Amos. They should never be compared. They may draw from a similar universe, but they have created their own worlds from the ground up. =)
So true. I hate when idiots try to say Tori is just a Kate imitator. These fuck-tards haven't written a song nor play an instrument. So they both are women who play the piano and have an eclectic style. Wow...then that's all there must be to it. Don't consider the uniqueness of Tori's songs (melody/chords)..."they have vaginas, sing, and play an instrument with black and white keys!". What's more, even if Tori drew "inspiration" from Kate (which I really am not sure of [as if there can't be more than one kooky, piano playing girl in the world]), Tori's leaps and bounds above Kate as an instrumentalist. Kate could "play" the piano. Tori is a virtuoso.
She has bravely done many difficult covers and she NEVER fails to do the song justice. Never thought l would ever hear an artist dare to do Kate Bush songs and do them so well that I enjoy Tori's as much as I do Kate. This woman doesn't have to take a second seat to anyone. She possesses a talent that few others can compare to.
What else? Voices and emotions! Kate and Tori offer everyone the feeling of having a better soul and the will to want to share it for a world with more love!
I was 16 years old when Under The Pink was released in the mid 1990s. Loved Tori back then & still love her now. She is only a few artist I still respect for maintaining her integrity & keeping the music REAL😍
I'm happy about that "historical" recording and how you defend both. They are worth it. Two fallen angels from the same star - landed on different continents, with a little difference of time. The earth is still spinning 🙂
absolutely seamless segue. these songs were made for each other and this brooding bass-heavy sound. Tori fans are maybe the biggest hunters of live recordings and rarities, for good reason - she never plays a song the same way twice and there's a whole load of incredible cover versions tucked away in her back catalogue. My key inspiration, along with Elton John, as I'm mixing down my first album and writing the second.
I believe this is from her performance at Red Rocks in Colorado September 2005. I've seen Tori 14 times but this concert was the most memorable of all, this song being a highlight of the entire show. I still recall it echoing on the rock walls, and I want to say there was a thunderstorm off in the distance from our high view. Haunting and mesmerizing at the same time. So fun to bring up this memory. Thanks for posting it!
Tori and her covers man.......tori has a very special spot in my heart :) i'll always run to her and listen to her music no matter how i feel :) not many artists can achieve that.
I saw her do her cover of this at the Greek Theatre when she was here in LA two summers ago, and I was blown away. I love Tori and I love Kate, and to hear Tori's cover of one of my favorite songs EVER was amazing, and will always cherish that memory....
jobriathboy Tori's music stays with you always, thats the same with me. I once moved into a city didnt know anyone but I had Tori's music as my companion
This is so beautiful, I have no words. One of the best covers ever, and then it flows into "God", it's perfect. I've always wondered what Kate thinks of Tori.
I have had the opportunity to see Tori live a few times in my lifetime and she always surprises me and makes me CRY I love her for that and I miss her on radio today. I want more....GOD sometimes you just don't come through babe......LOVE you 4LIFE!!!!
the first time i shouted automatically (louder , smile) then the public and cried and couldn´t believe this is really true, that tori covered one of my favorite life tracks in a way, which is like god speaking to yourself, staying alive and strong, when the heart is broken sometimes.
Yeah just like they did with Jeff Buckley, when he played live you almost couldn't hear the crowd in some moments, his voice was just so stunning... I don't know why people ALWAYS shout on Tori's performances, ugh.
I always find it awkward when the crowd starts clapping, out of sync and then slowly dissipates. I get shouting (at the appropriate time) but clapping to the song just weirds me out!!
There are so many bands that sound a bit like each other just because they belong to the same genre so I will never understand why people bash Tori just for walking through the doors Kate opened in the late 70's, and just at the time when Kate stopped being active, it's a good thing someone was there to keep that genre alive and expand it. They both use piano and they both play a lot with their vocal range particularly in their earlier records, and that's about it. The atmosphere and intent of their songs is very different, plus Tori kept centering her music on the piano while Kate experimented with other instruments and synths and different ways to layer and use sounds. If you listen to their interviews, their personalities as well as the way they approach their music and the creative process are almost polar opposites. They may fall in the same genre, one that Kate pioneered, but that doesn't mean other artists can't play in the same space. Thanks to Kate and Tori there's room for artists like Joanna Newsom now, I can't wait to see other women making haunting music and following in their footsteps (and hopefully making one or two Tori and Kate covers).
My goodness, I have heard many versions of this, none anything like one another, faith and the muse, placebo, kerli, kate of course, within temptation, tori here, and purple crush.... what is so wonderful is that none of them sound anything like each other but all of them are BEAUTIFUL! I love this song and her rendition is lovely!
Tori is f'ing awesome! She worked so hard to get to where she is. Yes, she does cover songs, along with how many other artists?!?! Many of her covers... I never would have given the song a listen if it wasn't for her. She is so intelligent and talented, it is hard for some to comprehend.
This is hauntingly gorgeous, I'd loved Tori Amos for the longest, since early 90's and high school. I have never seen her live, I'd love to....and I've always loved "Running up that Hill," this is beautiful, the magic and talent of Tori, how she entertwines these songs, just beautiful
I would never have even though to compare them and I love both equally. They are just very different and both the most underrated artists we have in the world today
I somehow perceive it as a gift on its own to be grateful for, the fact that she has always been giving us these countless cover songs. Not that i always thoroughly enjoy them but it's always an interesting experience.
About a year ago I found RUclips video of Kate and Tori performing two songs together, it was amazing and of course now it is now missing - I HATE that they keep removing stuff :o( I love this performance - thanks so much for the post
Thanks for uploading. I heard this back in L.A. and couldn't forget it. She said somewhere in the evening, "if you were living in L.A a while ago and saw a red head girl in traffic and give you the finger, that was me."
the same ignorant people spewing the same ignorant hateful comments to Tori, how typical. she clearly really admires Kate and has shown that through the years with her imagery as well as this tribute cover to her, but instead of recognizing this you all choose hate... i look up to both of them. i play piano as well as sing with a high vibrato voice, because they are who i learned from and i loved what i heard. point is, people draw from those they look up to for inspiration. beethoven did the same with bach whom beethoven admired... it would be a real trip if years from now Kates son Bertie and Toris daughter Tash ended up meeting/falling in love, since they are only 2 years apart. maybe that would shut you guys up.
I think it's an act of bravery for anyone to cover Kate Bush, much less Tori, who was unfairly pigeonholed as a Kate clone by some in her early days. In reality she is a vastly different artist. The only important thing they have in common is that their genius minds lead them into artistic places my mind cannot follow. I slightly hate them for that, but it's the hate of love! LOL.
yeah i know what you mean. Kates music, well certain songs i can comprehend, because it is similar chord progressions and things i use, but overall yeah, she is vastly superior to anything i have ever composed and the kick inside fucking AMAZES ME, because she was writing those songs as 13/14 years old!! they sound so grown up!! moreover they were EXTREMELY innovative.. to me Kate Bush was the first "alternative artist" she came out right around the punk movement and i think without her influence music as we know it wouldn't have existed in the 80s/90s... the last good decades for music... punk was the attitude of the rebellion in the alternative scene that came later, but Kate was the spirit of it. of individuality... they don't GET anymore unique than her.. now when it comes to Toris music?? that prodigy is on another plateau that i will never comprehend.. she should really be credited with her early work showing what a piano is capable of.. she is the jimi hendrix of piano players.. she took a piano and turned it into a guitar/bass/drums all in one instrument.. what other artists could draw young people in using nothing but a piano and her voice playing the same arenas fucking nine inch nails played at? all whilst having NO drums, no band and everyone thought it was "cool" lol.. there will only ever be one Tori Amos and only one Kate Bush.. also, there is no performer on this fucking planet that can touch the passion that Tori gives on stage.. she really gives it her all.. she lets you into her fucking soul.. if these haters knew anything about her they would realize that..
datura1983 Yeah, when I listen past Tori's 3rd or 4th album, I'm like, "This is good. This is definitely, unquestonably good. But I don't understand it. At all. I feel stupid. I'm uncomfortable." That I play piano myself only makes it worse. If I were still in my teens or twenties I would probably listen to every album 50 times (like I did the first two), until I believed I understood them, but as one gets older, that sort of thing becomes much harder to do.
Ben Culture Artistis tend to get more and more daring with every album. It makes sense that Tori's more recent albums are harder to stomach. Kate's last two albums have been the same way.
Thank you for using "unicum" correctly, and the spelling is correct also. What a breath of fresh air in light of all the adults that should go back to grade school that post here on youtube. GREAT!!! S
Sweet mother! I didn't notice that she went back to Running at the end...had to rewind and listen again to how she did it. She's such a friggin goddess.
Anyone with a voice that reaches you inside is an artist. Kate and Tori are unique and reach me both that way forever. Do not compare them they are both original and brilliant. Tori can sing any song she wants too. Kate Bush likewise! So shut up your trash comments, these divas have been a part of my life since 1976
what the next generation of stranger things doesn't know is we had kate bush and tori amos at the same time! thank the lord! they got me trough my teen years and beyond. thank you kate and tori ....thank you.
Tori has always said Kate Bush is her idol and muse. She draws from Kate's lyrics and tone but makes the music all her own, THE GREATEST LOVE TO THEM BOTH ✌️🏻❤️
I like to think that both of these beautiful, talented women would - should they ever meet - hug each other and recognize each other as unique, amazing artists. Each woman brings something unique to the table. And the voices of them both are needed in this world.
Tori is one artist able to actually interpret Kate. It’s great to see how many artists are inspired by the original tune but so many are simply retreading it - which is a fine tribute to Kate but not much of a statement of independent artistry. Tori is really a major artist whose work is actually comparable to the level of Kate’s work.
I never knew she covered Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" that was amazing :) And I will never understand this fascination with Battle Royale FEMALE EDITION. Why can't female artists just get along? Don't wanna see Kate and Tori "fight". Why should they? They're both awesome and so haunting at the same time.
@DroneBzzz Yeah the placement of this song in that episode was chilling... it's why I'm tubing all the versions of this song now, gonna arrange a cover. cheers.
I was able to see Tori at a record release party for "Little Earthquakes" - was about 6 ft away from her...and she's the real deal. An amazing performance. I love Kate Bush. I've been a fan of hers since '77, but let's face it- until extremely recently she hasn't done live shows, has never toured, and to be frank, her last few albums have been a yawn. For me, listening to a Tori album is like listening to an album Kate should have made...but didn't. Kate, you can convince me otherwise...just tour the States....just once....please...!!!!
Kate Bush went on tour in 1979. All of the shows were in Europe and most of them were in Britain. She found it too exhausting and that is why she has not toured again.
@TearInTheirHands Absolutely! You are so right. And I can love them both, so much greatness from both of them, without needing to have any logical relation with each other.
this song is my mothermilk in me teen times, 80ties and growing in europe. for me it described my struggle with drugs overtaking my person and life. also my Joy choosing between socalled good and bad decisions.
I was at this very show when this was recorded. 2005 Red Rocks Colorado. Her hair was blowing she had this flowing gold dress with a wrap and it blew with the wind so beautifully she looked like a goddess. Great show.
I was there toooo!!!! 💙
Tori doesn't look like a goddess. She is one.
Tori, Kate, Imogen, Enya... theirs are the kind of voices that, as soon as I listen... all of my negativity, self-hate, doubt and fear disappears.
They're the only drug I need.
Well said, now put this n ur pipe n have a toke... ruclips.net/video/wWm-EkHSgL0/видео.html
Yes!! All the female artists I love the most!! And as a singer also they have been a total inspiration for me 🫶🏻
Agree 100%
And Elizabeth Fraser?
Yes to Liz Fraser from Cocteau Twins
I was at this show. September 5th, 2005 Red Rocks. 3rd row. When she played this song it literally shook me to the core. The entire amphitheater was vibrating as her keyboard hit certain resonate frequencies. It was so fucking sad and slow and hauntingly beautiful...I literally have goosebumps just thinking about it.

Too. Fucking. Real. 😭😭😭
that was my first birthday. wow.
Omg this hits you deep
Wow ❤
it is INTENSE!! i just heard a powerful interview with her on a podcast called GASLITNATION. She explains a very strong connection with her mother. RIP🌹
I wish you told those other people to shut the fuck up. No one wants to hear morons screaming and hollering.
They really should never be compared. And they're both wonderful.
kambermusic Very well said 💯
kambermusic agree!
The truth has been told ;)
So true. I hate when idiots try to say Tori is just a Kate imitator. These fuck-tards haven't written a song nor play an instrument. My god this woman’s voice moves me like no other music I’ve ever heard. If I ever met her, I’d probably cry or act a damn fool. She’s brilliant.
Tori's talent is as few and far between as light is from dark.
She is one of my earth angels that i hold in high esteem. Rare beauty ~ ❤

There's magic here.
My two favorite female artists, Kate and Tori.
+Kent Mains Hm, go for Alanis, Bjork and Dolores in this list and you'll be quite satisfied as well
Victor Gobatti Been listening to some Bjork lately and I do like her music.
Kent Mains i love Kate...love Tori...Bjork...and right now in love with crush nr4 ..... Sia
What else? Voices and emotions! Kate and Tori offer everyone the feeling of having a better soul and the will to want to share it for a world with more love!
@@victorgobatti9031 And Liz Fraser.
Wow. Just gives you the chills. Tori is a musical genius.
I was 16 years old when Under The Pink was released in the mid 1990s. Loved Tori back then & still love her now. She is only a few artist I still respect for maintaining her integrity & keeping the music REAL😍
She was seriously only 16! I had no idea! Thank you for that trivia….OmG now I’m going to have to think
I'm happy about that "historical" recording and how you defend both. They are worth it. Two fallen angels from the same star - landed on different continents, with a little difference of time. The earth is still spinning 🙂

i envy you in the best way !!!!!! redrocks tori is on my bucket list .. i'm so fearing it wont be possible... =(
I know, I'm not sure if she will ever play there again. :( If she does, I will be there!
Tori and her covers man.......tori has a very special spot in my heart :) i'll always run to her and listen to her music no matter how i feel :) not many artists can achieve that.

Always
♥️♥️♥️
Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Placebo, beautiful, ethereal, fantastic, the song of my life............
I saw her do her cover of this at the Greek Theatre when she was here in LA two summers ago, and I was blown away. I love Tori and I love Kate, and to hear Tori's cover of one of my favorite songs EVER was amazing, and will always cherish that memory....
Two of the most underrated Musicians of all time.
For me, this is beyond mood music. I close my eyes and drift and when I return I am thankful to be alive.
thank you for everything Tori... thank you for just being... you saved my life back in '92 and i've followed you ever since.
jobriathboy Tori's music stays with you always, thats the same with me. I once
moved into a city didnt know anyone but I had Tori's music as my companion
I would've committed suicide back in the 90's if it weren't for Tori, hence she saved my life as well...♥️
This is an absolutely pivotal performance of this
I was at this show where this was recorded at Red Rocks CO. It was amazing. Seen every tour since 92 to 2014
Breaking my heart since 1998 xoxo
That's right when I feel in love with her too!
Tori and Kate are much loved! Because they are both so lovable! in their own ways... Thanks for posting this song/songs!
Spine tingling. Love them both
tori has a way of twisting covers making them eerie and kinda of making them more understandable, i love her and she deserves more recognition
People shouldn't shout during the performance they should after she is finished the song, takes away the intensity
Yeah just like they did with Jeff Buckley, when he played live you almost couldn't hear the crowd in some moments, his voice was just so stunning... I don't know why people ALWAYS shout on Tori's performances, ugh.
It's amazing isn't it. Some people just feel compelled to fill a silence by conveying their own participatory enjoyment.
I always find it awkward when the crowd starts clapping, out of sync and then slowly dissipates. I get shouting (at the appropriate time) but clapping to the song just weirds me out!!
This is Brilliant, Amos should release a set of her best covers, this of course should be included.
The coolest part is that Tori totally pulled this out of her ass at the last minute. She's that brilliant.
She’s always puts her unique stamp on songs, I just adore Tori !
There are so many bands that sound a bit like each other just because they belong to the same genre so I will never understand why people bash Tori just for walking through the doors Kate opened in the late 70's, and just at the time when Kate stopped being active, it's a good thing someone was there to keep that genre alive and expand it.

I have heard this mashup at least once in concert...and it was such a beautiful performance... I don't see why we can't love both Kate and Tori.
Tori is f'ing awesome! She worked so hard to get to where she is. Yes, she does cover songs, along with how many other artists?!?! Many of her covers... I never would have given the song a listen if it wasn't for her. She is so intelligent and talented, it is hard for some to comprehend.

God I love Tori and her "Rhodes Moments."
She's like the Liberace of piano.
Sweet mother! I didn't notice that she went back to Running at the end...had to rewind and listen again to how she did it. She's such a friggin goddess.

Tori, i love you
Her music shows such beauty, such a soul & an outstanding talent!
Fantastic cover of such a great song
what the next generation of stranger things doesn't know is we had kate bush and tori amos at the same time! thank the lord! they got me trough my teen years and beyond. thank you kate and tori ....thank you.
Tori has always said Kate Bush is her idol and muse. She draws from Kate's lyrics and tone but makes the music all her own, THE GREATEST LOVE TO THEM BOTH ✌️🏻❤️
Tori has touched the light, and sees the darkness to come...
I'm glad you posted a warning. I love Kate and Tori both and I hate the haters who don't believe in love for everyone.
I really do love Tori Amos her music is so emitionally charged and observant
I heard this cover way before I knew who Kate Bush is. (Can't believe I'd never heard of Kate) Now they are both two of my favourite artists.
Where you a hostage of the Taliban for 24 years before you heard this cover then?!! How can you not have heard of Kate Bush?!!!
And I thought I liked Meg Meyers's cover of Running second to Kate's original ... until I heard Tori's cover here.
Imagine a collaboration between these artists. Yes please.
Gefällt mir sehr gut, tolle Interpretation von Kate! Super Tori, bitte mehr davon!
I like to think that both of these beautiful, talented women would - should they ever meet - hug each other and recognize each other as unique, amazing artists. Each woman brings something unique to the table. And the voices of them both are needed in this world.
I wish that kind of New Wave would come back :(
Make it!
in due time
Then it wouldn't be new anymore ; )
My fav asrtist of all time, singing my fav song of all time! AMAZING! i wish i knew this existed sooner!
Beautiful cover Tori 💕
Pure and simple people.........Moving the planet
Tori is one artist able to actually interpret Kate. It’s great to see how many artists are inspired by the original tune but so many are simply retreading it - which is a fine tribute to Kate but not much of a statement of independent artistry. Tori is really a major artist whose work is actually comparable to the level of Kate’s work.
Incredible music
Another version of this song was in the Warehouse 13 finale. Loved it. And Tori's version is amazing.
My fav singer
I never knew she covered Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" that was amazing :) And I will never understand this fascination with Battle Royale FEMALE EDITION. Why can't female artists just get along? Don't wanna see Kate and Tori "fight". Why should they? They're both awesome and so haunting at the same time.
Such a beautifull song and then the comments are so angry and furious. Chill out people and enjoy this wonderfull live version of a great Lady!
Sing ..Tori ...sing..... We all Love you Beauty ........
Simply great.
My alltime fav 2 female voices!
Divine, I wasn't convinced at first but was soon won over!
@DroneBzzz Yeah the placement of this song in that episode was chilling... it's why I'm tubing all the versions of this song now, gonna arrange a cover. cheers.
The best cover I ever heard
gosh, i will cry, this is flawless
Brilliant tribute.. so emotional
Kate, you can convince me otherwise...just tour the States....just once....please...!!!!
i dont think she will come to America.-and nowhere no more - kate s from another world.-
Kate Bush went on tour in 1979. All of the shows were in Europe and most of them were in Britain. She found it too exhausting and that is why she has not toured again.
The first lines of Tori singing Kate just gave. me. chills.
Tori is Unique!
@TearInTheirHands Absolutely! You are so right. And I can love them both, so much greatness from both of them, without needing to have any logical relation with each other.
Agree with comment from a similar universe
Great juxtaposition of two thematically similar songs!
I used to always sing to Tori's music on my way to rehearsals love
ultimate!
This gives me shivers
this song is my mothermilk in me teen times, 80ties and growing in europe. for me it described my struggle with drugs overtaking my person and life. also my Joy choosing between socalled good and bad decisions.
