Why isn't this woman talked about in the same sentence with greats like Billy Joel, Ray Charles, Elton John, etc.? Her piano playing is more often than not rhythmically quite disconnected from her singing. And both rhythmically and compositionally complex. It's like she has two brains, one for her mouth and one for her hands. Absolutely otherworldly.
That's a good question. But I think tori is... screw it, I'll be frank. She's smarter, she's more talented, and she's uncompromising. She doesn't sell out and she doesn't roll over. Tori is a goddess. Those men are mortals.
What starts as a great groove turns into an amazingly complex and dramatic masterpiece. This is in my top three of my favorite live musical performances. All on point and Tori's vocals are so absolutely perfect and emotive. You can feel her pain of that miscarriage and her anger at God. Her piano playing on this is just so complex that the fact she can sing at all is amazing. But then she pulls out her secret weapon: the best vocal and breath control in the business. It just melts me every time- Brilliance!!!
Other things going on here, as she explains in her live concerts...... ( Native American Indian boy, and more, as she drives across the desert)... The full meaning of her songs remains inscrutable (and provokes some thought and reflection), and this is a good thing.. :)
Matt and Jon have such a groove going on this tune. I do appreciate the soundscape guitar because it doesn't cover up any of Tori's absolutely astounding piano. But adds some texture to it all. This woman is one of the quirkiest yet most immensely talented people I have ever seen or heard. Her voice and breath control is simply otherworldly. Like she's got some alien DNA in there. Stunning!
This was so good, despite her personal life issues 1998 was Tori's year. Got to see a few shows of the often sold out Choirgirl tour, she had broken through to be a cult favorite and anyone even halfway cool was talking about her
Songs from the Choirgirl isn't exactly my favorite Tori album. But this live performance may be one of her best. Mad skills. 4:30. She is a master of ultra-powerful rhythm-lead licks.
Wooooowwwwww, this is pure music!!!! You don’t even need lyrics, I personally do not even understand much, yet my body does, my ears, skin is goosebumps, can’t explain. She is a legend, so underrated!
Her ability to play two different keyboards with two hands with syncopated notes on the left and smoother tones on the right and her voice creating amazing sounds independent of both is mind-boggling. Holy Sh.....
This is truly magnificent. I don't even have the words to describe how amazing this performance is!! Tori is probably the most under rated musician of the 90s
this woman~!!😯🤩 I mean it honestly fucking incredible what she can do. this is one of her best performances ever, i think (and so complex!!). i keep watching/listening over n over...n over of late
I never fully appreciated Jon’s grooves until I picked up the bass myself almost 2 years ago. Now going back & revisiting many of these old live performances from decades ago with Tori, Jon & Matt….it’s just pure magic. 🎶 💜 🎹 🎸🥁
She is so awesome 😎 I kind wish she still Performed like this! & gives you chills and oh my gosh I wish I Could do what she does!!! ❤️ The Raisin girl!!
i i e e e (live) 4:29 The piano bridge: OMG this part is so haunting...The way she goes off, omg. She has spoken about having visions of an entity, which inspired her to write this song. But whatever it is that she is directly lashing out at during this part, is perhaps the one to have made the "sacrifice"of taking her "little girl" causing her to have a miscarriage. HOLY FUCK. * ** * I know you understand, understand the way I feel YOU SHOVE IT YOU SHOVE IT IN MY FACE I know you understand the way I feel but YOU TOOK YOU TOOK MY LITTLE GIRL I know you understand the way I feel... I understand understand the way she made me feel while I was listening to it like something was trying to rip open my skin to get out...but that's tori for you ♡♡♡
she's having a go at God, "I know you understand the way I feel (God gave up "his" son in sacrifice) God knows how painful, and she's asking why knowing the pain he took her little girl. the defiance of this woman is admirable.
Yes! And when she says "You shove it in my face" she must be referring to the endless repetition of the crucifixion story she and many of us have had to endure.
Lyrics: With your E's And your ease And I do much more Need a lip gloss boost In your America Is it God's Is it yours Sweet saliva With your E's And your ease And I do one more I know we're dying And there's no sign of a parachute We scream in cathedrals Why can't it be beautiful Why does there gotta be a sacrifice Just say yes You little arsonist You're so sure you can save Every hair on my chest Just say yes You little arsonist With your E's And your ease And I do one more Well I know we're dying And there's no sign of a parachute In this chapel little chapel of love Can't we get a little grace And some elegance No we scream in cathedrals Why can't it be beautiful Why does there gotta be a sacrifice

She's better than them. They're mainly entertainers. She's an artist.
That's a good question. But I think tori is... screw it, I'll be frank. She's smarter, she's more talented, and she's uncompromising. She doesn't sell out and she doesn't roll over. Tori is a goddess. Those men are mortals.
Maybe because she is a woman ❤
But, seriously. Completely different beast altogether ❤
1000% agreed
took 25 years to finally dive into tori-dom and i'm feeling betrayed by anyone i know who never introduced me to tori. she's a genius.
Criminal offense
Me too! Guess I was too young to really apreciate her. Now I'm obsessed.
You must not have known any hard core ears with feet because I drove people up the WALL with my Tori obsession 😅
She’s a rockstar w/ a piano
@@carriehazel77bahahaha same! I would even prank call and blast Tori in everyone’s ears lol don’t ask lol I had problems ❤ ewf forever!
Tori is a modern legend who deserves adoration beyond compare... where is it ? she is a genius, an artist, a firefly, a sprite, a sun and more.
I have never heard a singer express more anger and pain than she did right here....
Caught a lite sneeze, prescious things, and the waitress are also very fierce.
I know you know how I feel, you shove it in my face. You took my little girl 😢
In response to GoblinGuy333... Really, have you ever heard of Janis Joplin or Amy Lee?

The richest palette of shades of her voice.

Tori will always rock#1I love you Tori David
I wonder how it felt to have been in her presence and witness this masterpiece of a performance live. Absolute wows.
Everyone probably blacked out.
I saw her in Little Rock, AR without the band. The most amazing concert by far.
I saw her several times in the 90’s and I’ve never seen anything better since. Just magical.
i’ve watched this a thousand times and i still cry every single time. her voice, her piano playing, the band, everything is sublime.
The same for me 💜
@artgat652 it's OK....I think we ALL have that reaction to this performance in particular and Tori live in general!!!!!!!
A miracle in songwriting. Jesus even picked up the bass for this one.
Aka: Jon Evans.
The whole arrangement, darling.
Hahahahahaha

This is the best version of this song. Chills every time.
She was so underrated and ahead of her time
Not underrated to me!

Still the best iieee out there
This was so good, despite her personal life issues 1998 was Tori's year. Got to see a few shows of the often sold out Choirgirl tour, she had broken through to be a cult favorite and anyone even halfway cool was talking about her
Genius, goddess, legend. Nobody compares to her
I live for this vers.
FREAKING AMAZING!!!!! I love the musicians Tori picked for this!! I would have loved to see this in person!!
Best version ever. 25 yrs later.

A musical goddess. Her talent is so over-looked, its criminal. ♥️♥️♥️ i will forever love and be moved by her music.

And her song writing and composition is just stellar as well!
I always end up here

I'm back right now for my fix.
She goes right through every cell in my body. In a good way I mean..

She really was incredible back in the day, still love her but nothing quite matches this.
She is so awesome 😎 I kind wish she still Performed like this! & gives you chills and oh my gosh I wish I Could do what she does!!! ❤️ The Raisin girl!!
Not sure whether anyone has noted that she modifies the phonetics: sacri[v]ice, etc.; she does this often in her songs, particularly with vowels
Yes, I think that's part of what makes her music so interesting and different.

This is my favorite part of the live performance and I never knew the lyrics. Thank you for posting. She is amazing!
Wow, what a song and what a musicianship! That longer version sent me to heaven.
this is mind blowing
TORI FUCKING KICKS ASS!!!!
Just Wow❤
Tori Amos has more artistry, talent in her pinkie toenail than most of today's artists.
Just my opinion. No need to try to change my mind.
Friend: "so, what's your type?"
Me: someone who can sing like Tori Amos
Friend: Good luck staying single all your life
That was 🔥
Should be taught and shown to every high-school band throughout the country. The Nicola Tesla of artistic music!
Unworldly version!
Legend. Pure genius.
Um dos maiores gênios da música!
Needed this, today. Tori has always had a way of making my Girl Cellz come together.
In her prime. I'm so glad I saw her back then.
Tori's music opens up to a world of pure magic. ♫
You took my little girl!
Imagine doing all that and then saying Hi everybody how’s it going? Absolute Goddess
So amazing.
Saw her live both in Warzawa and in Oslo, she never fails to keep me amazed! Extremely wonderful singer and performer, it’s hard to explain ❤️🇸🇪

Lyrics:
With your E's
And your ease
And I do much more
Need a lip gloss boost
In your America
Is it God's
Is it yours
Sweet saliva
With your E's
And your ease
And I do one more
I know we're dying
And there's no sign of a parachute
We scream in cathedrals
Why can't it be beautiful
Why does there gotta be a sacrifice
Just say yes
You little arsonist
You're so sure you can save
Every hair on my chest
Just say yes
You little arsonist
With your E's
And your ease
And I do one more
Well I know we're dying
And there's no sign of a parachute
In this chapel little chapel of love
Can't we get a little grace
And some elegance
No we scream in cathedrals
Why can't it be beautiful
Why does there gotta be a sacrifice
