- Tori Amos -- Precious Things Lyrics
So I ran faster
But it caught me here
Yes my loyalties turned
Like my ankle
In the seventh grade
Running after BILLY
Running after the rain
These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break their hold over me
He said you're really an ugly girl
But I like the way you play
And I died
But I thanked him
Can you believe that sick sick
holding on to his picture
Dressing up every day
I wanna smash the faces
Of those beautiful BOYS
Those christian boys
So you can make me cum that doesn't make you JESUS
These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break their hold over me
I remember
Yes in my peach party dress
No one dared
No one cared
To tell me where the pretty girls are
Those demigods
With their NINE-INCH nails and little fascist panties tucked inside the heart
of every nice girl
These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break
Let them wash away
These these precious things
Let them bleed now
Let them wash away
These these precious things
Let them break their hold over me
Precious

I am so so grateful that I grew up with women like Tori as role models. We had such amazing, powerful female artists in the 90's that were unafraid.
Yes! Fellow riot grrl
She means the world to men as well. I've been in awe of her magic for around thirty years now. In my book she's one of the best of all time.
@@davidweatherholt7263 I agree. There's only one Tori Amos and men are also big fans of her gift of music. I went to two Lilith Fair Tours back in the 90's. It was a special time and an incredible movement.
@@msep5203 let’s not forget those legs men,or gals
A.men.
More talent in one pinky than everyone on the charts today.
absolutely - Joni Mitchel level
Totally agree
Amen!
Literally!
Definitely
As tremendous as Tori is here; can we give some love to the great Matt Chamberlain on drums? Incredible performance.
no
He is my all time favourite drummer. Such tasty chops!
yes, the drums are 🔥
Seriously, they are both so amazing
This performance of this song highlights one of the things I love about Tori. She REALLY puts herself out there, not just through her lyrics but also through her playing and singing. At points in this performance she appears almost possessed by the song, singing in tongues. The courage to write and perform this way is something had by very few.
I feel almost possessed listening to and watching this performance of this song. Head spinning, back arching possessed. Truly a mesmerizing & all senses aboard to this amazingly powerful & beautiful scene! Toe curling, back arching, teeth gritting...raw emotion physically manifested,...just pure awe, as a grown woman raised in the church as a child, & traumatized by it, I cannot even put into words my rection to this performance. 🕉💜
She and Lisa Gerrard should perform together would be amazing 👍🙏🏽
Lisa is on a much different level. Love Tori, but ever see DCD live or Lisa’s solo performance? I have been witness to both in the 90’s.
Personally, I didn't like that she changed the lyrics from "So, you're an ugly girl.
But I like the way you PLAY" to "like the way you smile". I mean, I get it! Women are strangely expected to smile at EVERYONE. I don't get it.
Only a few pull off the very highest echolon of performance........Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Tori Amos......... Of course such is about delivering an outstanding voice, but it embraces much more.
An exquisite song is wrapped in the performer's naked and fully exposed soul, sprinkled with magic dust, and then possessed by Euterpe and her fellow Muses. They all squeeze in before wrestling and writhing to burst out. Who knows where the performer goes to, but she is lost, her voice and body body totally surrendered to the gods.
Listeners are bewitched, instantly forgetting their wives children and faithful dogs. The sounds, the sights steal their souls and their Bibles declare adultery as their fantasies become the now, the only reality. They are lost, never wanting to be found only eternally orgasm within velvet sheets of sound.
Wow 1998. ..2024
Damn y'all.. 25+ yrs have gone by since then... and Tori's music's still.. it's just heart wrenching.
I'm writing this during the adrenaline of the moment, a fucking jaw dropping performance here. Haunting, seductive, ridiculously intense - one of the best live performances I have ever watched.
This is art
OMG. This is incredible. Her talent is immeasurable. Can you imagine having been in the audience to witness this?
I have seen her play live , with the band. Its incredible.
2nd row seats last year
Seen her in play in person three different times and they were all very different.
Saw her twice in concert. Amazing performances!
I saw her that year with the band. I've been to hundreds of shows since, and it's still my favorite performance. I'm a lifelong Tori fan, but that era was truly something special.
until you've seen Tori Amos live, you haven't truly lived.
mrkenray I’ve seen her 3 times live, I can attest she is one hell of a performer.
Christine C one
I gad a legit panic attack of overwhelming... idk when she sterted playing blood roses on the native invader tour.
I mean literally everything that was a monumental song fo me. And it was so emotional
@@liannachristine5207 ...I know that soul shattering. And find it often when this Lady decides we should shatter with her.
I'm still waiting for her to come to my country :(
Whether you realize it or not, this song is a prayer. It is a prayer of someone asking for freedom from all the little hurts that have accumulated over the years. It a prayer asking for the strength to forgive and move on. I love this song for its rawness and its truth. We all have a thousand small cuts that have devastated us over the years. We need to let them wash away. Let them break their hold over us. Brilliant!
Nicely said......everyone has is own life but I understand what you are trying to say.......we are all different having are own problems.....cant compare someone elses problems with my own......Tori Amos is amazing.......far beyond modern fake theater.
no lo podías haber dicho mejor :)
Mary McMullin Great comment! The only thing that I disagree with you about is the forgiveness part. Listening to Tori's lyrics, I don't get the impression that she was in a very forgiving mood. I certainly believe forgiveness is a very healthy and healing thing in general though.
❤
I agree! I saw TA in 1992 in a little college auditorium in Buffalo, NY - Little Earthquakes just came out - what a powerhouse! Some artists talk about the mountains - she actually moves them!
Been listening to these songs for 20 years... still absolutely amazing.
I remember watching this the night it aired , omg ! Must have worn that vhs tape out
❤true story
This is my favourite version of this song. This whole session is insane.
This exact combination of amazing musicians really were a dream team. She’s played with lots of other artists but this group has a chemistry and layering that really enhances the song and makes it even better than it was when she initially played it. I wish I could go back and see some of these live shows again.
98, the Choirgirl era, I LOVE the live performances from that era when she had the full band behind her. Not that I don't live for just Tori and a piano, the songs just felt like new experiences with more layers of sound.
She's always at her best with these guys. They should always play together.
This witch right here. It looks like she literally gathers power in her hands before she sits down.
IKR!!! She really does and the way she smears her finger on the piano when she says "so you can make me cum that doesn't make you Jesus" such a bad ass bitch!!!
Talk about taking the Lord’s name in vain! 😳
@Anaja Simbashu Bullshit
@Anaja S If she worships anyone, it's DEFINITELY a goddess, so the only demon giving her music is gonna be someone like Lilith.
@Anaja S Oh shut up you child. Grow up. Seriously.
I woke up one morning in 1992 and realized Tori Amos is the love of my life. It's never changed. It never will change. This is absolutely fire and brilliance.
Having listened to Tori since early teens up to now in my early 40's....having seen her perform live...this version of Precious Things is undoubtedly the absolute best I've heard. Unbelievable.
Is it out of place to be turned on by the way she performs??? So much passions just radiates off her...the way she sings so close to the mic, uses her whole body to play her paino, or the way she communicates with the others on stage with her. Its so sexual but not all in the same token. Gahhhh eargasm ♥♥♥♥
itsjustmeLISTEN eargasm - I'm steeling that...
I get eargasm's listening to Hendrix.
Is it out of place to wish you were the piano bench?
True.... try looking "Tender Surrender" Live fron Steve Vai
It's not strange at all. There are very few things that I wouldn't give for a woman who loved me like Tori loves her pianos... 😂
tori had something to say...she shared it with us....stunning
98/99
I was VIP'd into a sold out show by Tori herself.
I say in the floor in the aisle just 20 feet from her glowing by spotlight.
God damn she's invested in every song
My first time seeing Tori live was the Plugged Tour, and she opened with this. It was otherworldly, as soon as she started playing those first couple notes the audience lost its collective mind. It was one of the most euphoric experiences of my life.
This album was a double. One live album and one studio album. Blew my mind when I was 16. If you don't own this, buy it buy it buy it! She's like no other
The live version of "Precious Things" rushes and engulfs like a tsunami. Later on, she could've actually mashed it up with "Caught a Lite Sneeze."
This song is for woman to know about those men…who think pleasing you in the bedroom is enough, that her capacity to love is deep and that men should know how to truly love a woman MORE and woman should know this too! Her voice expresses the complexity and beauty of a soul.
Never heard this harder, more rock arrangement before. Incredible!
Who performs on a piano live like that? And songs like their soul is being ripped out? Who? Bloody amazing. I personally think she is a great.
Freddie Mercury. You forgot him it seems
@@dhakshan not the same at all. He was rock, about audience interaction... extraversion, this is introversion exploding
Plus lifts her dress and grabs her "crotch" what an amazing, confident, genius force of nature. I worship her.
Ben Folds is worth a check out. I've not seen him live as yet, but he has a similar power to his piano playing and can really play. His sense of humour is good too when you listen to the lyrics.
Seen her live twice, both times with a band, its amazing.
"that doesn't make you jesus!" love it!!!!
Great drummer!
Matt Chamberlain.
the drummer is of course gorgeous, as is the bassist, and the rhythm guitar, the vocals are incomparable, the piano. I can’t single out anyone separately, but without the vocalist pianist they would not have gathered.
She didn't do it again. It only happens once in a lifetime on a nerve.
I'm not what you would call a huge fan, but I bought "Little Earthquakes" when I was a teenager... I played that CD (yes, it was an actual CD, ancient technology to the kids, today) until I pretty much wore it out... And this song is just brilliant... Gives me goosebumps...
I still use cd's, tapes and vinyl. Vinyl and cd sales have surpassed digital sales recently. :D
@@RetroFan I still have all my CDs. Everyone of Tori's and their back up. (I had a back up for every Tori album)
Beautiful production brother. As someone that has gone to your shows since my 20’s and rocked your music with you being my favorite underground artist forever it’s been great to see your spiritual journey through music as it’s helped center me in my own experience with the passing of time. What happened to the early 2000’s when I was a young traveler and found my home in the Los Angeles underground hip hop scene… the search for meaning and the sharing of knowledge with consciousness being the ultimate goal and game; serious but f**k so fun..and painful. Going to Project Blowed and hittin the spot in Pasadena for shows. Forever grateful for your music ; especially the journey through the up’s and downs of substance use ; both the vehicle to insight and eventuality. 🏋🏻 Stay up brother and keep inspiring reflection
She really puts her soul into her music.. love her so much..
HANDS DOWN ONE OF THE ALL THE BEST WOMAN ARTIST!!!!! AND LORD HAVE MERCY THE WAY SHE PLAYS THE PIANO!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!
She is unique.
Her music is weightless but really heavy at the same time....God, really love this live!
She pulls off all the gyrations, musical special effects due to the fact that this is a very good singer and pianist. Such an impressive talent.
that's why we love her! she takes ya thru an emotional and physical journey with her music ;)
This album will always b my fave of Tori’s. Full of raw anger & pure raw talent. So telling of a young woman’s struggles in this world
I thank one of my best friends so much taking me to an Tori Amos concert. One of the most precious things I was allowed to be there live. She is by far the most underrated musician. I would go so far to say that nobody is that gifted not only with such an amazing voice and skills but even with the talent to play, feel, life music. By far the best. But crap is more known by the crowd. But so let it be, she is like a precious diamond not everybody has at home.
oh. f*ck.
This performance. She scours my brain, dude. Every-time.
has to be the most spectacular live performance of any song.
I think this has to be my favorite Tori song as I’ve liked it since I was 11 years old.
Pure talent and no auto tune. An artist.
So true
She's so amazing live!! Saw her at Red Rocks under a full moon in. the 90's.
There is no way that her and Reznor didn't have more than friendship at one point, with how much she sang about him for years. Her anger makes me wince. Tragedy we didn't get more music from those two together, whatever happened...
Courtney Love happened
Lots of versions of this song on RUclips to watch and hear, but this one especially tears me up every time. Moreso with each listening, the impact of this song is almost overwhelming, and here she was at the heights of her powers. Simply brilliant.
Oh my goddess!! This song live! Tori Amos performing the song live is fucking hair raising, swinging from the rafters, off the chart AMAZING!
Every lyric, every note, carries with it such brutal honesty. This is what expression is all about. Tori's the greatest.
my absolute fav track (and version) of one of the most talented singers on the planet
This was my time wowza..women like tori amos, fiona apple, sara McLaughlin, ect.
I had every single album she ever has done in a special place and pull her down once I awhile and spend a weekend with my teenage nostalgia.
I never new if she made the piano sexy or the piano her sexy or if they both were just meant to be... all I know is we had Tori and gen z has Lindsey sterling.
What beautiful icons that show pianos and violins are wonderful, exotic and emotional powerhouses.
Damn Tori, your lyrics are e like musical forms of nterpreted dance.
Ugh pure raw music right here kids.
Love her. . . Defined my teenage years
Wow! I had forgotten what a powerful performer she is!
Holy shit. No words.
2022 this performance is still amazing! Thank you Tori!!!!
She is amazing!! I have loved her since the early 90's. Her voice is crazy good.
Saw her for the first time at the Greek in LA September of ‘98...all by myself. I got in a car wreck on the way to the show and had to leave it at a gas station in North Long Beach in order to make it to the show. My radio got stolen over that night too. I wouldn’t give up that night for anything. I was in tears by the end of this song. There by myself but not alone. She was amazing. The fans. The energy. Sometimes I think I survived early adulthood because of that night and the energy I absorbed from her. Thank you Tori. People are still alive because of you.
You just have to come back & watch it periodically. The whole thing is perfect🩶
Such a firecracker!
Sessions on West 54/ late 90's. Because this is EVERYTHING. SHE IS EVERYTHING. 💖💖💖 Can someone confirm that? Plz.
Love how Matt Chamberlain drove this
She is perfect ! Perfect singer and perfect musician and she vibes like no one else. The best woman singer and musician ! I love this woman she is so rare and precious
What a gem. Love how she makes the intro sound like a echo on the piano. Trent Reznor's favorite tune.
I adore this version !!! Such an amazing song !!!
This was the single greatest piece of music I had never heard. My mind is completely blown.
I really like the contrast with how Matt Chamberlain plays low notes on the drums while Tori is playing high on the piano
Tori is mesmerising live i’ve had the pleasure, she’s an amazing artist!
One of the greatest talents ever, male or female, she is and always have been so fucking brilliant. In the female genre her and aimmee man will forever have my heart and ears
Anthony T Same! I first listened to Aimee then found Tori and now Im also stuck on PJ Harvey. They are all such unique and talented artists.
totally accurate post
The best live show of Tori that I came across. I am so happy this recording is available. So powerful.
Ridiculously good. Such power.
This song is so metal.
Check out the Blue line medic cover
Wow, she is such a force on all levels🔥🔥
I’ve seen her live 4 times. Every concert is a totally different unique experience. This is my favorite song of all time! ❤
The quality of a James Bond soundtrack.
This game, this song and many others, V & Johnny, Night city, Judy, my shoom Jackie...ect...Just perfect.
To be continued...I hope so 🙂
Perfect example of true talent.
To Venus & Back, Disc 2 (live album) is one of the most brilliant & beautiful live albums of all time for sure.
once it gets started, you know what's going to happen, something wonderful
Tori Amos ist mein persönlicher, heiliger, musikalischer Gral !
What an amazing performance.
Still her best song 💙
Paige here -- my favorite thing is seeing live music -- especially original music preformed by it's author(s.) The more intense and heartfelt the better. My favorite all time live artist is Tori Amos. I think it's because she allows herself to become possessed with the song -- and it's a treat to watch! Both Tori and I share a background in fundamentalist Christianity so that also makes me feel a kinship with her tunes -- especially this one.
I'm still amazed and moved by Toris singing....such a force.....she got me through my 20s in the 90s....i thought how does she know what my inner most thoughts are....😋😛🥰😍🤩😘😘😘😘😘
A force of nature.
Orgasmique!! merci pour ce grand moment. Grâce à vous je viens de découvrir cette merveilleuse chanteuse. Enjoy lol :)
Absolutely LOVE what Steve Caton adds to the performance.
Adrian Schmadrian glad it's not just me that spotted that ...
God she looked gorgeous
Eargasm
Truly singular.
I saw her on this tour, with the band.. and absolutely loved it. I know everyone raves about the small, intimate performances with just her and piano, but there's something special to see her get her groove on with real guitars and drums behind her. Brought new life to the songs.
Easily one of the best live shows I've seen.
Great performance
Such a mega-powerful performance 👏🥲
I was a bit young during her debut in the 90s. Found her just before SLG album and been hooked ever since. Can't wait for the next concert.
brilliant.... forever
Thank you so much for sharing this!
I was still listening to cassettes when this came out! Didn't get the CD until later and I sing & dance to it all the time. Good time.
Really terrific! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thanks for the upload!
That was intense
Amongst the MOST BeaUtiful Weman I have EVER KNown, THank you for SHaring so much of youself.
Matt is just savage in this one.
Wow, what an intro!
I still think this is one of the most captivating piano riffs of all time, including all genres I have ever heard.
Michael Bauers Absolutely.
Genuinely, her girls have mothered me more compassionately than almost any human being ever could (my father and grandparents notwithstanding love y'all). I shudder to think of what I would have done without her music and her compassion.
This is some of the best music I've ever heard
A truly goog song. It lifts my spirit.
Genius
This one always gives me a scalp tingle.
