Other people mentioned it before, but the challenges are very much inspired by those of Takeshi's Castle, especially the multiple rooms one with metrocops roaming through, where in the show they were instead actors in spooky costumes that run after you and cover your face in black ink or whatever. Whole map does bring that nostalgia back.
This seems like an interesting map. A gauntlet of Takeshi's Castle-style challenges, followed by a fight very much resembling the Icon of Sin fight from Doom 2 (complete with the weird exploding boxes). What's a bit of a shame is a distinct lack of Crash Bandicoot visuals (even just textures if nothing else), and Aku-Aku doesn't really look like Aku-Aku, but oh well, at least it looks fun to play and doesn't require any asset packs to be downloaded (which tends to be a nuisance with other maps).
This seems very inspired by Takeshi's Castle, an old Japanese gameshow where a bunch of contestants would go through a series of challenges exactly like these. The show might be more well known to Americans as MXC.
The music for the first challenge at 1:39 sounds like the song that plays in Godzilla movies the military marches along to. It may also be used in something else since Toho did reuse assets a lot
Speaking of Japanese game shows, I think these challenges are based specifically on Takeshi's Castle, also known as MXC. Most of them seem too similar to just be a coincidence. (Also I'm Chester from Twitter BTW).
wonder if you'll ever do a video on the js build maps you mentioned, I've recently came back to try the first again and it was pretty nice (if not a tad tedious)
lmao I'm ashamed to know that it comes from an old Japanese strip rock paper scissors game on the Sega Saturn, I think it's called something-something yakyuken
This is literally just Takeshi's Castle
aka MOST. EXTREME. ELIMINATION. CHALLANGE!!!
I fucking loved MXC growing up.
Exactly what I was thinkin
This brought back so much nostalgia from old vanoss playing this.
That was funny as hell back in the day
Literally what i said upon seeing the spawn room
I was literally thinking "hmm this map looks oddly familiar"
And then it hit me
It was one of the deathrun maps vanoss use to play
6:55 Here's a fun fact: you can use the scroll wheel to manipulate how far away the prop you are holding is
the metrocop challenge used to be more difficult because w_stunstick had a whopping *40* base damage, and it applied to the ones held by the NPCs

I like this series, always nice to sit back, relax and look at some weird maps
Brick, it's been 90 years, and you still owe me your kidneys.

thanks for the brain snack at 5:03 AM
I have no interest in maps but I love listening to Whomstmobile talk about them
he fr just be waffling
Yeah it's lovely background noise. His voice is very easy to relax while listening to

I did not expect someone to turn Aku Aku into an orky Icon of Sin.
YES! We need more maps like this!
Also, the hunter chopper is just a normal chopper, which takes 32 rockets to take down
I remember this map from a really old Vanoss Gmod sandbox map. Watching you play took me on a nostalgia trip
I didn't know maps like this existed for gmod. It's good to see map types other then sandbox or rp maps being released
I love how this is basically just Takeshi's Castle but in gmod
here is a funnier fact:
if you use m3 (middle scroll) you can drag props towards you
12:23 That's because when they try to detect if they'll hit themselves they include themselves in the check so they're never able to fire
Thank you for putting captions on the video :)
didn’t vanoss play this?
@Whyamistillalive i miss it very badly
This is just takeshi's castle.
haha didn't think about that comparison!
your mic is sounding wicked fine in this vid, did you get a new setup?
tbh I fucked up the audio and had to feed it through Premiere's creative sound thingy to fix up how tinny it was
Thank you for reviewing one of the most interesting maps i’ve played. I felt like it is extremely difficult as a singleplayer experience too.
These maps give me Takeshi's Castle kinda vibes
when are we getting uka-uka_normal_world
Perfect timing for lunch
Love the vibe of these videos!
just wanted to say that you have the best channel on youtube and that every video you make is a treat.
you've got a lovely voice as well
Huge nostalgia from when me and my friends played this together. I think we played it multiple times.
There was a gmod server that ran maps like this and I remember playing this map on that server.
The music for the first challenge at 1:39 sounds like the song that plays in Godzilla movies the military marches along to. It may also be used in something else since Toho did reuse assets a lot
No winners this time on Takeshi's Castle, but as my old dad used to say, とても良いゲイリーモッドです!
I wonder where that remix of battle on the big bridge for thr aku aku fight is, its really good
most of these challenges are also in Takeshi's castle so i imagine the author was inspired by that or a similar show
The third challange clicked with me that this us inspired by Takeshi castle
If I'm not mistaken the map uses the MGS1 theme as the victory theme for when you defeat aku aku
Yep, that's the one.
Iirc it was dropped after MGS2 because it was taken from an orchestral peice
Should've been the MGS victory theme for Smash...
hey man, i'd love to see some more of these videos from ya. always been so interested in these archaeic maps. hope ur doin well :)
I've been taking a big break, one day, I'll come back!
Wipeout/Takeshi's Castle GMOD EDITION??? Hell yeah
10:18 i will never forgive you, orc is warhammer fantasy, ork is warhammer 40k
(the subtitles)
Will fix
@@Whomobile thank you
this reminds me of another course map called mg_rota_derp, you should definitely check it out!

This is so cool, that they made a takeshi map
your strategy with the bolders was neither outside of the box not inside of it. it was thinking in tesseracts.
Best gm map naming maybe 0w0
10:25 Battle at the big bridge :D
Too bad about the copyright, delta force goes kinda hard ngl.
rly cool music for this video, whether yours or from the game
wonder if you'll ever do a video on the js build maps you mentioned, I've recently came back to try the first again and it was pretty nice (if not a tad tedious)
cool map, beat it right after i saw this.
1:39 is that godzillas theme
Omg I remember the Vanoss crew playing this
LETS GOOOO i love these videos dude
New mic quality is nice
I think the textures on the second level hint at the correct platforms?
I last saw this map when I was like 7 and was watching vanosses videos
Anyone know where that victory jingle comes from? I'm sure I've heard it before but googling a bunch of similar-sounding syllables isn't helping.
lmao I'm ashamed to know that it comes from an old Japanese strip rock paper scissors game on the Sega Saturn, I think it's called something-something yakyuken
4:11 is that a takeshi's castle reference?
A bit shallow, but an intereting map nonetheless.
Does anyone know the name of the song that plays in the main hub area? My god is it catchy!
basically, takeshi's castle in source
Ey you should do bhop_monster_jam it is a weird map
holy crap i remember this from a vanossgaming video from like 2016 or 2017
I love your videos so much
I remember seeing this map in a vanossgaming video

I am done eating, the video hypnotized me. Perfect voice
Brother, I’m going to need a less enthusiastic Waaahhggg, next time. Your lack of enthusiasm nearly blew up my headphones.
I'n gonna have to get real orky for that
I remember vanoss playing this..
I genuinely cannot tell what the jingle is saying
Dooga booha.
