I’m writing this in the lobby of the hospital as my mother is in a critical condition. Since the diagnosis I never cried about what might happen. I also did not play this song because I knew what kind of emotions it would stir and I did not want to break in front of her. But tonight, as I lay here in the lobby chair with a bottle of water, a blanket, and a prayer, I listened knowing it might be the last time I could cry freely. Thank your Marten.
I don’t think there’s a word for the emotion that this makes me feel... It’s like, when you’re standing in a place with lots of memories. They make you smile, but you can’t spend long here without needing to cry because you know that it won’t be the same. Not quite nostalgia, not quite melancholy, not both but not neither.
What a poetic comment. As I read it he had gone to the modeling again. I thought it was gone after the first time as the machine was winding down. Sheer beauty!
Noah the gamer Yeah, those were the fuckin' days, man. Shittin' myself, cryin' all day, being fed formula. Those days were the best. I'll never forget 'em.

I'd love they come to Argentina, but we are quite far...
There are very few people who evoke so much emotion...so much sadness... with only two instruments....Your 2nd instrument you play very well and makes your performance connect to my soul.
The fact that this two instrument are fully electronic and yet still capable to have such a emotional voice and express it like this ,is truly amusing.I’m not trying to say electronic instruments aren’t capable of doing so but I mean you guys literally invented these and beyond the scientific side of the matter you guys also managed to give these “machines” a soul.A soul that turns “machines” into instruments, “voices” into music and this “scientific invention” into art.Thank you guys for this amazing experience and this amazing work.

You have built some of the most amazing and unique pieces of musical creation I have ever seen. The methods with which you think to create music, and the endless love you so apparently put into not only your music but also your instruments is inspiring. This is one of my favorite pieces of all time, and it is played by only two instruments. Martin, you have created such a hauntingly beautiful composition that I will love until the end of my days, and I know that I am not alone. You have inspired me to make my own projects and follow my own dreams in creating things, and for that I am eternally grateful.
Wendy Carlos' original versions of "Switched-on Bach" are really difficult to find. They're not on youtube, just a lot of keyboardists covering them (poorly). Not on Spotify either, or any of the streaming services as far as I know. Would you know where to get them?
FrequencyOfThought Ahead of his time? Motorized paper-tape music boxes you mean? Or the synthesizer? Neither of them are originally invented yet surely they are home made. I however do not believe the idea for making these instruments were not without inspiration.
Thor Jørgensen You're just being a jerk bag I don't have time to argue with nobodies going nowhere critiquing everyone because they are good for nothing negative pieces of shit. You know I hit the nail on the head , now run away
It's weird. This affected my emotions in such a way that I could feel my heartbeat in my upper arms. There's something magical about the music of wintergatan. I hope to listen to him in concert one day.
The paper tape is the most melancholy thing I’ve ever seen. The nostalgia of the music box, and the slow, but all too quickly exhaustion of the finite tape. Seems a perfect analog for life. Simple, beautiful, seems to unwind so slowly and then it’s over. Of course you had to wait for the paper to run out and fall. Well done. Thank you!
As a Violin/Fiddler of 23 years, since I was six, This, Is, AMAZING! I wish I could play that instrument you made. Ultimately amazing! Just Amazing.... You made my heart bleed babe.
I'm a 40 year old, very manly man. The 'Marble machine' made me cry in public when I first heard it. And now, listening to this song, I did it again. You are just amazing. Martin, I think you are a genius. I grew up loving music of all kinds. And inventors, too. I cannot begin to fathom the level of imagination, ability and talents you are in possession of, but I recognize how important and rare a person you are in modern society. Tesla, Edison, Franklin, even Mozart -- you belong in their sphere to me. Your music and your inventions bring me such joy. Thank you. I wish you all the success in the world. You deserve it and more. Peace and love to you, sir. 💝💐👏🏻✨✨✨
I have to say, you're so much more than just your viral hits. Your appreciation for sound is something to be reveled in and accepted as a part of this world's history. It is good friend. I thank you.
This is the sweetest thing I have ever heard. Have been secretly a fan for quite some time. I am finally coming out of the shadows for just a moment to show my love. If I'm sad, or needing a tender moment, this is where I go...since it doesn't come from our relationships ad much as we imagine up. Music is the place I retreat to that has all of the love anyone ever needs. That's music, in a nutshell.
I like to imagine that he is hiding away in deep caverns after an apocalyptic war. He broadcasts messages and songs across the wasteland using equipment and instruments he assembled by hand, all in the name of spreading a message of hope across the wastes. Here he tells us: 'all is well'.
When you see the Music Box about to let go of the last bit of the programable music sheet, similar to when you see the timer on a song close the end, it feels like when you're about to say goodbye to someone dear to you, or when you know it's getting late and that you will have to part ways very soon. It's a feeling of emptiness before it even ends, you are fully aware that your time is up, so you start to look at everything more closely, as if that would make the moment last longer... This song, means very much to me now, and I hope it will continue doing so in the future. When I look back to this, I want to think: "All Was Well"...
i go back to this every time i miss that feeling i had when i first listened to this that i don't even understand till now. maybe the feeling of missing something
Ok. I have so many thoughts. 1. where even are you, you look like you're in the bat cave. 2. How the hell do you think of and then execute the making of all these different instruments? 3. Where can I buy merch because I am ALL IN. 4. Do you ever play live anywhere? I imagine it would be hard to tour with all this machinery but it would be so magical. 5. You seriously should collab with some other youtubers to make a short film. You score it, and then someone like madeyewlook does some beautiful sfx makeup, someone else can do costuming, writing, directing, acting. it would be a damn masterpiece and I would pay a lot of money to see it. Like, I already have this whole concept in my head of what that would be and it's AMAZING! 6. Why are you so talented? 7. Who the hell do you think you are, making me feel all the feels? I'm sure more will crop up, but I'm honestly just making that film in my head right now and it's honestly so beautiful.

No one important passing by don'tmind me... but thank you. Um. Right now my life is in a real bad spot and it's hard for me to cry sometimes or process the pain I feel. And one night I stumbled onto this song and I just started crying. A good cry. Letting it all wear away, like song was letting me process my grief and trouble. It's currently something I listen to frequently to cope with and keep crying along too when I need it. Thank you for this song... thank you. It spoke to me. And idk if I'll be alright but thank you for letting me listen to this song. And thank you for making it.
I had come to listen to this again on another late night today... I am overwhelmed by the positivity left for me I don't know how to you tube comment but like thank you everyone. I'm doing a bit better now. I'm just going day by day and, these messages here reminded me why I should continue to. Thank you again for everything and how much this song has come to mean to me.
I used to play this music for my twin children when they had trouble sleeping when they were babies. They are 11 years old now and they found and listened to it from the list of videos I liked on youtube, they say, Dad, we like this music very much, it gives peace. Now this music means more to me than before.
Tony Stark could build an arc reactor in a cave with a box of scraps. Wintergatan could build a whole orchestra's worth of unconventional instruments in a cave with a box of scraps.
I love this. Its almost a hauntingly beautiful. Like when you reflect on something. Its hard to explain what it made me feel. I felt like crying but at the same time happy.
These Instruments And Music Always Mesmerize Me !! Could Watch Artist, Instruments And Listen To This Genre Of Music? Like For Hours. See The Big Main Instrument ?? Awesome !!👏🏼 👏🏼
в этих звуках, каждый услышит свое. Кто то найдет умиротворение, кто то почувствует совсем рядом потусторонность, а для кого то это постоянный поиск и открытия.........
Love to watch this man make such fantastical sounds and organic machinery. Old technology meets modern in harmony like the tenuous glue that binds past generations with now. This Beautifully forlorn tune is a mixture of sadness and optimism rolling into one paper feed while it's master plays along like it's slave. Amazing and ironically perfect.
All the joke comments aside, I think he has a point. It does combine with the electronic/robotic sounds of a synth with the human motions and style of a violin.
I found this years ago before I ever heard of the Marble Machine and I still find myself coming back to rewatch it over and over again, it's truly a mesmerizing piece of art
The modulin is the most beautiful instrument that I have heard, I cry for a world that is far beyond my purview. I cry for a family that is never to be. I cry for the pain that I caused. The universe has damned me to be alone in a universe full of love.

This is legit the only song I've ever listened to that makes me cry, and I have no idea why.
Yup, still does it... every time
Its the power of music
Dan aku bernasib sama
You're not alone
The tone of the modulin has so much longing.
Oh god it got me too
I love how even on the album version, setting up the music box is part of the song.
I love the German subtitles to this: "Wunderschöne Melodie beginnt"
-> "A wonderful melody beginns"
It just makes me grin.
And then: Beautiful melody ends... 😪
english subtitles say that too
I rediscovered this song while looking for something to get my newborn to finally sleep. I'm happy to say it works perfectly to calm her every time.
Keep a drive/file somewhere where all the music you make her listen as a baby can be found. And for one of her birthday, give it to her.
Very good

Not quite nostalgia, not quite melancholy, not both but not neither.
Its fleeting happiness that you know will be gone once you feel it and wont linger
Content but not safe, its completeness with the knowledge that this feeling of fullness is slipping away.

And thank you for making it.
same here my friend I hope your sadness melts away
Never loose hope.
Di ana awweee i do hope u feel better
I had come to listen to this again on another late night today... I am overwhelmed by the positivity left for me I don't know how to you tube comment but like thank you everyone. I'm doing a bit better now. I'm just going day by day and, these messages here reminded me why I should continue to. Thank you again for everything and how much this song has come to mean to me.
Sometimes,it’s all right to cry...let it all out...😌😌😌...then,you’ll be calmer...
Wintergatan are you a musician, engineer, inventor, wizard, story teller or what? Sooooo amazingly beautiful..
Спасибо большое за вошебную музыку! Здоровья и счастья Вам! Удачи в творчестве!
He is in tune with his soul much more than most humans.
Очень красивая музыка. Будто что-то давно утеряно но нашлось .....
When you get on youtube "real quick" before bed... heres to insomnia cuz of insane new discoveries
This is amazing!
I am in tears.. literally tears. His inventions and music is so pure it makes me wanna cry.. Beautiful and profound!
no joke you are extremely talented! I love your work! absolutely mesmerizing!
The genius it took to think of this music instrument and yet this world is going to hell in a hand basket. Why can't we all just live in peace?
He so creative! I really enjoy all his inventions.
This video need some Jeff Bridges screaming at mediocre musical engineer at the end of it now.
What do you mean unconventional? Look at that thing!
@@saitenotoshuitsnaini "Well I'm sorry. I'm not Wintergatan."
Wintergatan could beat Thanos alone. Music tames the savage breast.
Maybe you guys meant Martin...
Достойно уважения. 👏 Это прямо, как волшебство, музыка одушевлена, очень мелодична и трогает сердце с первых нот. 🎵

I love this. Its almost a hauntingly beautiful. Like when you reflect on something. Its hard to explain what it made me feel. I felt like crying but at the same time happy.

Awesome !!👏🏼 👏🏼
This is the most nostalgic version of the song, every time i hear it i cry a lot, i love the music and the feels of this band
в этих звуках, каждый услышит свое. Кто то найдет умиротворение, кто то почувствует совсем рядом потусторонность, а для кого то это постоянный поиск и открытия.........
My dog died today
She was 18 and was the best dog I've ever had
This song gave me one last fond memory of her
RIP Juneau 10/6/2002-10/16/2020
💙
Hope you are doing alright
Here's a hug♡♡
RIP, hope you are doing well 💙
RIP Juneau
May her rest in peace
This music speaks of nostalgia and intimacy. Pretty good!
This sounds like a song that would play at the end of a long journey. Amazing.
That was absolutely beautiful to read. Thank you.
WTF ?
Damn, you're a true poet
I agree
Translation for the common folk? This dude kicks ass...
Эти невероятные инструменты и музыка инопланетные, очень красиво.
WHERE IS THAT PLACE LOCATED!!!??? is it the batcave or is it, "THE WINTERGATAN CAVE"?
Kaena Heart it's in sweden
Probably just one of the many bunkers built in Sweden during the Cold War. We call them "bergrum", or mountain room.
+Kristian Jörgensen best place to hear music is in a stone room.
Kaena Heart its his man cave
If robots have a soul, the Modulin would represent how it sounds.
That's like saying "I like how the colour green tastes."...
thats like saying the word "If" wasn't in there at all
oh wait..
Synesthesia FTW! :D
this comment is so edgy
All the joke comments aside, I think he has a point. It does combine with the electronic/robotic sounds of a synth with the human motions and style of a violin.
Incredibly beautiful and melancholy. So glad youtube suggested this gem to me
I found this years ago before I ever heard of the Marble Machine and I still find myself coming back to rewatch it over and over again, it's truly a mesmerizing piece of art
The modulin is the most beautiful instrument that I have heard, I cry for a world that is far beyond my purview. I cry for a family that is never to be. I cry for the pain that I caused. The universe has damned me to be alone in a universe full of love.
This guy is awesome, very creative and talented artist who puts feeling into the music.
Chuong nha tho tan phu ✍
Oh man! What a beatiful nostalgia you made get into! I cried a lot.
Thanks!
