Wow, came here 'cause a friend of my mom's got vertebral osteomyelitis...the pus then infiltrated the pleural space via fistula. She almost died, was on IV antibiotics for 2 months or something. Severely overweight, with diabetes. She's "recovered" now, but has gained weight back after losing it in hospital, and is still diabetic. Brutal!
Interested in knowing how long this lasts after you get well. I had pnemonia Aug-Oct 2018, but I still now in April 2020, over a year later, have this sensation of plastic or cardboard in my chest, at my sides. Noone is able to tell me what I am feeling, but an educated guess is it is the leftover result of empyemas. I also wonder if this is what is called lung scarring.
