    I've watched Eddie's lectures since I was a newer nurse, to now a seasoned nurse. Whenever I feel like work had knocked me down, which has been quiet often for the past year, I would listen to Eddie talks, and it would calms me, as odd as it sounds. Thank you for all you do for all of us nurses.

    An important item that was lacking was the protein content which differentiates transudative and exudative. Transudative will have proteins levels < 25g/L and exudative will have protein levels > 35g/L.

    Great video. Question, would you ever do a combination of medication plus thoracentesis ?

    • @ICUAdvantage
      @ICUAdvantage  3 года назад +1

      Talking about for pleurodesis or something else?

    • @thepharmacistacademy
      @thepharmacistacademy 3 года назад

      @@ICUAdvantage yeah for pleurodesis

    • @ICUAdvantage
      @ICUAdvantage  3 года назад

      @@thepharmacistacademy I haven’t seen that. Typically pleurodesis is done either with a thoracotomy or administered via chest tube, both of which would not require a thoracentesis.

    Misplaced feeding tube caused death of my husband and no one would attest to this, only one caregiver who pointed it out to me. Sad state in this world!

    How fast should this be drained?
    Without causing cavity to fill with air, which creates another challenge. And the pain factor to the patient not only as the lung reexpands, but in worst cases recollapses.

    Eddie, can parasite infections cause pleural effusion? I ask because filariasis or schistosomiasis can plug the lymphatic system. Might this lead to a chylothorax? I believe that Paragonimus infections can also cause pleural effusions if I'm not mistaken.
