A great list. 3 of your 5 I regularly get. Not sure if you focus only on scotch, but I’d suggest a Bourbon for the list Wild Turkey 101 or WT Rare Breed.

These are all my favourites! Great list! And I have been a whisky lover for over 30 years. Maybe I'm still a beginner😅?

Glencadam is god tier - such a good analysis 😎

I would add the Laphroaig 10 to that list. Both the Talisker 10 and the Caol Ila are rather contained as far as smokiness... I think it's worth having a proper smoke bomb and the Laphroaig 10 although very peated is actually quite an easy drinker, with lots of fruit and nutty notes. I love it.

Thanks man! I feel like it’s a good enough mix with a bit of everything, and at least a bit fun with a cask strength in there. Slainte! 🥃

I am planning a trip to Scotland for next year, I want to spend a few days in Islay mainly but of course want to visit Edinburgh and Glasgow, I just wrote down the list of bars you mentioned, sounds like a good idea for an episode, your channel is awesome by the way!

Great list! Glad you included a cask strength whiskey, as that can really show a beginner what else whiskey is capable of.

Thanks man, Exactly! Even last night at the pub, I was on a 55% and guys next to me were like “woah that’s crazy!” but personally, I think that’s where the magic happens! Slainte! 🥃

Strangely enough I just put together a sample pack (though without your availability and price constraints) to introduce someone to different styles of Scotch:
Glencadam 15 (no peat, no sherry) [I used to use anCnoc 16, before it was discontinued]
Glengoyne 21 (no peat, yes sherry) [ I know: I could have picked something cheaper...]
    Oban 14 (middle-of-the-road)
Lagavulin Distillers Edition (yes peat, yes sherry)
Laphroaig 10 (yes peat, no sherry) [I've had 14 people love it and only 2 not!]
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban (Port cask finish)
As for my own favourites, they can get a bit pricey...

That is a solid taster pack! Definitely every both ends of the spectrum covered there! 🥃

Beginner here. My son-in-law is going to take me to a local tasting bar to try some whiskeys. I'm looking for spirits with no peat/smoke/char. Your review has helped me put two on my list. I had a taste of the Bunnahabhain 12 at Thanksgiving and it was delicious. Out of my price range at the moment though. Here in NM USA it is $70 (with tax). Thanks for this review it has been helpful.

Ahh dude! Thank you so much! Helpful is exactly what I want it to be. Yeah I really have no idea on the US market, I just kind of assume it’s similar to what’s available here, albeit slightly more expensive (which $70 seems to line up with what I expected). Enjoy your tasting! Love to hear what you try! Slainte! 🥃

I love my Bunna 12. Here are a few options I think speak the same language (but only the Bunna will have that salty background): Balvenie 12 Doublewood, GlenAllachie 12 (more on the sweet side but so complex and excellent), GlenDronach 12 (no ex-bourbon but I do think the Bunna 12 is sherry forward).
BTW, the Doublewood is much better in the US being 43% against 40% in the UK.
Do keep in mind the GlenDronach no longer states their whiskies are unchillfiltered. I did try an old bottle against the new one side by side and didn't feel any difference... but there's that. These 3 are my favorites 12yr olds, they all had their time on top and I keep going back and forth... My current winner is the GlenAllachie 12, I even ordered their 15 but not here yet.
