@@JRCONTRERAS12 I was wondering the exact same thing while watching you effortlessly lift off out of hand, over the last 2 years with my Air 2S I have never launched any other way except with both sticks down and in. 🤦🏽♂️
We don’t know yet. The Air 3 uses a mix of signals with 2 separate arrays of antenna. I think the N2 will be more than sufficient in this case to penetrate 8 miles
I tried it yesterday without a clue with what I was doing. Did turn the sensors off, not sure if it was in Sport Mode, but I did grab it and the motors went crazy. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video thank you very much. I love this video. I'm a new Drony from South Africa, and this is my first try at the Air 3, and whow, I tested and tried this hand retrieve a few times, and it work excellent. Thanks a lot
Very interesting. Glad that putting it in sport mode helps with doing a hand land. Very cool. Although my question is, if it wont land in your hand in normal or film mode, how can it land on the ground? Do you have to do a return to home to get it to land? Thats just puzzling to me.
It’s a behavior I’m not used to, for sure. This is my simple solution that seems to work without fail. If another solution is working for you, let me know. I will continue to try to land in normal mode. My previous video was cut in length, where I was struggling to get the drone to land in my hand.
dang it. I tried this and it didn't work. I put it in sport mode, it says OFF in the options area screen, and it still stops a foot from my hand when I lowered down to catch it. ??? I want to take it up in the mountains to make cool videos. Any help. Thanks
Sport mode then pull the left stick straight down and hold it. Should land in your hand. You can pinch the body and quickly twist the drone ton90 degrees and that disables the motors too.
@@DadRandom i discovered i had to fly the tutorial to get the drone out of ‘beginner mode’. It wont let you do it, if its still in beginner mode. Works great now. Thanks.
I can hand catch in normal mode….but… there is a longer delay than previously thought. It takes a good 5 seconds of left stick hold in the vertical down position. I will still drop the drone into sport mode. Its just faster.
same for me - it takes longer until the Air 3 finally lands in normal mode (Firmware v01.00.0600) compared to my Mavic Air 2, but still possible! And in sport mode I also have to keep pushing the sticks down, doesn't start landing immediately after detecting my hand. For sure much faster (I'd estimate it was around 1 seconds until it starts descending), and faster than my old MA2, thanks for the tip!
I am curious about this, put up a video showing your process. I’ve been hand catching DJI drones since the Mavic pro and Standard. This little bird was the first to have this new behavior.
It can be catch in normal mode. Just bring it to your chest level and almost at the same time push down and put your hand just underneath the drone with the distance almost like when it lands in the floor. it will land in your hand by it self. i tried it and it works every time. No need to tilt.
I've had an Air 2s for over 2 years now but I did my 1st hand catch with my brand new Air 3 today and cut my pinky finger pretty bad in 4 places. In my opinion, it takes more force to twist the Air 3 over to shut it off than the Air 2s did and somehow today I let my pinky finger dangle out a little farther than normal. Anyway, really wish I would have watched this video this morning! 😪 🤦🏽♂️
Great video. Love the air 3 except for 1 thing, I’m so, so disappointed with the stills I’m getting with it. The amount of noise I have in low light, especially in 48MP is incredible compared to my 2s.
Hand catching.... The Mavic 3 pro is the most cooperative. The little Mini 3 pro is so suspicious, jumps up "all the time" and doesn't want to just "go down" into the hand. Time 07:15. Put in Bypass mode just before landing? What about the fight? Changing important settings during flying sounds bad to me. There's a lot things to forget...
Disapouted in 10 mins vid u didn't show controller controls
Push the auto launch button or the left stick down and hold. Not a lot of difficulty.
@@DadRandom sooo thanks
@@myj5792 exactly thank you
So how do you do a normal landing on the ground if you're not in sports mode? Doesn't it see the ground as an obstacle?
Thanks for the demonstration! Very useful!
I think you still can in normal mode with force landing(with the left stick keep downward) to grab the drone..?
Man it shouldn’t take 10 minutes to explain this.
How are you launching the Air 3 without moving both sticks in/down to start the motors?
The ap?
@@DadRandom I know that now that I have an Air 3. I always thought you had to start the motors and launch with the sticks. Thanks for the reply.
@@XploreAzon the left side middle there’s a little take off button, press it , a window should pop with a big button hold it and should launch
@@JRCONTRERAS12 yeah I know that now. Thanks.

Can one use the antenna gain directors that could be used with the old phantom 4?

Very impressed, thank you. As a newbie I will try your suggestion. Great video. 🙏
I tried that in sport mode but believe it or not the sensors still worked. Are there any other settings to consider?
Are the settings still set in beginner mode? There should not be an issue in sport mode. 🤔
@@DadRandom no. It’s weird. I don’t know what’s going on.
It also didn’t work for me. Tried Sport mode several times and it still avoids my hand.
How about today w/ the latest update?@@janbachkristensen8380
Did you ever get this to work?@@marcelkaiser5021
Oh , that was amazing, I’m in Canada where we have a lots of snow and I really can’t afford landing my air3 on my car or any kinda surface thanks 🙏
Yes, it’s quite easy. Just make sure the props are spun up and gently toss it away from you.
I tried it yesterday without a clue with what I was doing. Did turn the sensors off, not sure if it was in Sport Mode, but I did grab it and the motors went crazy. Thanks for sharing.

Hi DR - wouldn't simply turning off the sensors in C or N mode achieve the same thing?
I wouldn’t turn off the sensors in your normal modes, that’s why they are there. Sport mode is a flick of the switch, and simple to do
@@DadRandom I tried to turn the sensors off, but could not get it to go down in N mode..?
Thank you!!!

Thank you sooooo much for the hint
Always hand catch if at all possible and you feel confident to do so.
are you also in sports mode when you launch the drone from your hand
+@IvanRayBalais no, I’m in normal mode
You can hand catch with the air2s in normal mode
The sensors are way more touchy in normal mode

Is it mandate to calibrate or we can fly without it.?
dont calibrate unless the drone/app tells you to.

No, put in sport mode. Bypass mode allows the drone to more fluidly avoid objects instead of stopping abruptly
