I explain the Gain and Expo screen and show the best settings to get the very smoothest flight and video. I also show how Bypass Mode can really give you a jumpy flight and why Brake Mode is probably better for the Obstacle Avoidance action on the DJI Air 3.
My preferred settings for Normal:
Max speeds - leave at max
Max Angular Velocity: 35-40 ‘ /s (more for Sport; less for Cine)
Yaw Smoothness: 50
Brake Sensitivity: Set to max (highest)
Gimbal Max Control Speed - 20 ‘/s
Tilt Smoothness 25

Happy flying everyone.... Ian - Наука
This is one of the best explanations that I've seen for these control settings. Well done, Ian!
Well, kiss my never mind! Who woulda thunk that changing "bypass" to "brake" would have had an effect on control sensitivity? Good catch! And I am only 3 minutes into the video!
Always great video presentations....thank you very much!
Super erklärt. Danke.
Thanks so much for showing the brake mode !
Thanks Ian, I learnt some settings that I needed to change.
Very informative video! Thank you.
Ian is the MAN!!
Hell Yeah! :)
Great video, great explanations. Thinking of buying me the air 3. Greetings from The Netherlands
You have a great understanding of the Gain & Expo and explain it very nicely. Thank You for your time doing this video.
Excellent tutorial on a very important set of adjustments.
Thank you so much Ian for this great video 🙏🏻
Thank you, Ian. I'm a sub of yours now because of this video. Awesome job explaining.
This is the video I was looking for! Well done and thank you for making it!
Nice thorough explanation with examples
Awesome tutorial, thanks for the great video.
Thanks Ian again, very helpful. Mine is on its way, yippie. KEV.
Very useful, thanks.
Great Video Ian, as usual, very useful.😀
Nice job my friend, very clear✌️✌️
Have a good evening.
Luca.
Great tutorial on how to set your gain and expo settings. Thanks for sharing Ian.
Thanks. You make this so easy to understand.
It's always good to have a reminder on the settings that matter the most, thank Ian 😁
Thanks Karen
Nice video! Thanks for the information.
Thanks as always! Love your vids!
Ian, Thank You so much for your detailed explanations. The link you shared with me last week to your Air 2S settings I applied them all. But still had jerky movements. I didn't want to reach out to you again as you had already been so helpful. I just thought it was something to do with the sensitivity of the sticks on the controller and would have to stop being heavy handed. This new video has resolved everything with regard to smooth footage so "Thank You". I had my avoidance set to Bypass hence the jerky attitude of the Air 3S. I am so relieved that you figured it out. As one of my core content providers I look forward to many more of your training videos on the Air 3. I started my Drone Journey back in 2019 at the age of 70 with a DJi Mini moving through different iterations to my new Air 3 today. Thanks to your content and in depth reviews and lessons you have taken me on a wonderful journey of exploration. I just need to master editing I use Luma Fusion on my iPad Pro there is so much to learn and as i am older it takes a while to sink in. Ha Ha. Take Care. Nigel G
Thanks so much Ian for these awesome control tips! I can't wait to get my Air 3 and get these fixed before flying and do incredible shots :)
Great video Ian, as always very effective description and guidance. Thank you very much 👍
Awesome video. I've watched a lot of Air 3 vids, and this is the type of technical info I've been searching for to enhance the cinematic feel of video. Thank you!
Nice tips on the OA I didn’t know it made such a big difference in brake vs bypass…I knew about fine tuning things in gain & expo.
Top, Top, Top, 👍👍👍
Great explanations on settings can't wait to give it a try. thanks
Very clear explanations of these setting and quite helpful! Just started w my Air 3
Amazing information. Thank you so very much for this Video!!!
Brilliant explanation, super helpful thank you!
Brilliant! Thanks so much , Ian! From Pasadena, California
Great video Ian, the Gain and Expo settings on the new drones are somewhat confusing to beginners and this explains it very well. Maybe in the future release a video with every setting you personally use on your daily driver settings for Cine, Normal and Sport it would be so helpful for everyone 😊
Excellent video as always thank you . I was lucky enough to of won my new air3 in the GADC raffle so I am obviously thrilled and now I’m back home it’s time to unbox and sort it and start to have fun so as always I will be following your videos to help me get the best out of it just as I have done with my other drones . Thanks again and keep up the good work. Kindest regards Scott
Great video covering a subject matter that is always confused to me👍👍 thanks for the great explanation and demonstration😊
Wow! I can’t wait to try these tips. Thank you Ian. You’ve picked up a new subscriber.
And your presentation was excellent too, no b.s. and no filler. Nicely done.
Welcome aboard!
Excellent video Ian, I had lots of education. You're a fantastic teacher. THANKS!!!
Thank you!!
using this
I was always somewhat fearful, si I didn't want to disturb the settings. I changed the "X" to be "flat in the middle", just as you suggested... It made a phenomenal difference. Thank you so much!
Great stuff! :)
I couldn't figure out why my Air 3 moved so aggressively even when I changed all of my settings to buttery smooth but you gave away the secret, obstacle avoidance. I can't for the life of me figure out why that makes all the difference even when there's no obstacles at all surrounding the drone.
Anyhow, thanks for the explanation
wonderful, thank you. How can the path between the Waypoint points be made straight and not curved?
Hi Ian, I didn't realise by putting the drone into brake mode that it would make the drones movements much smoother. Another useful tip sir! Thank you 🙂 Ps. love it when Teddy sees a cyclist and barks his head off during your videos!
I've have seen quite a few videos saying that bypass mode is pretty crappy.
Same! Super helpful tip!
Wow! I was wondering why my Air 3 moved so hastily like that. Was in Bypass mode. Who woulda thunk? Now I know.
Does this replace the three sections that we had for adjustment before?
Great vid, thanks very much, my drone shots are about to improve 👍
The title implies that it’s the Air 3 but really it’s anything with the RC2 controller - or even the App. That could be loads of aircraft?
Yes, but this was just after the Air 3 had an update.... But yep, spot on, it's for most models 👍🏻
Like the tips this is the same for Mini 3 pro
Yes; spot on
I've watched several videos on these advanced settings and yours is by far the most straight forward and detailed on these easily confusing gain and expo adjustments. I like how you explained the why not just the what. Keep it going!
Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻
I’m wondering if you change the brake sensitivity, if that helps smooth things out when the Drone is in bypass mode? I found this to be a very helpful video by the way. I’ve always found the expo settings a bit confusing and haven’t messed with them much until I watched this.
I don't think Brake sensitivity affects the bypass mode, as I did a test on low brake sensitivity and obstacle avoidance and it makes no difference there (ie it still stops fast if there's an obstacle)
Good Video - thanks! By the way: is obstacle avoidance (in normal mode) also available in those automatic movements like Dronies, Spin-around, way-point-flight? Or only while steering and while active tracking?
OA works in the Quickshots too.
I stay in Break mode for the same reason. Has DJI ever explained what causes this?
Hi ya, first off, sorry about commenting on wrong video( dont know how to just ask you general questions), but when i try to film after dark on mini 3 pro, the led lights go out and i cant see my drone untill i stop filming ??? What am i doing wrong, or what should i be doing.. many thanks Gary
Surely there's a way to smooth things out when selecting "bypass" as obstacle avoidance, right? I mean, why would we need to part with the most fun, image-gathering obstacle avoidance option just because of "controls nervousness"?...Any ideas?
It's jumpy when you touch the sticks, but Bypass Mode is still a valid mode to fly in. Personally I would trust the drone to always bypass obstacles successfully though and you usually only crash these once.
Thinking of upgrading to Air 3 Ian, but need to know if I can use my ipad on the remote as my eyes aren't the best to be using the smaller inbuilt screen...Do you know if the remote that is screenless (for want of another word) is as good as the top drawer one please mate...? Great video as per usual, thanks again 🙏
You need to opt for a package that uses the RC-N2 remote (ie the remote without a screen) and link to your iPad that way. I don't believe it's possible (or at least easy) to use an i-pad on the RC remote with screen.
DJI drones are now divided I to categories according to the most common weight categories. So I think we will now see fully featured drones in each weight category. Instead of the most expensive drones getting the best features.
Will these same settings work on the mini 4? If not can you do another video on the settings for the m4p?
They will work on the MIni 4 too.....
Does the Brake vs Bypass sensitivity affect all DJI Drones or just the Air 3? Pressed the button on one of these last night after the initial reccommendations from several 'content creators' against it. Turns out they may have been a bit premature or not tested thoroughly. Thanks Ian.
It was equally rough with the Mavic 3, but they did a firmware update to calm it down a bit. I find all dji models display a jumpy tendency in Bypass Mode.
Yes because when in bypass mode it needs to be able to dodge obstacles fairly quickly.
Thanks for your recommendations for gain and expo, Ian. I always test them out as soon as I see what you have in mind. (I currently use a value of 35 for angular velocity in Normal Mode which has worked fairly well.) I will try out the Brake Mode for obstacle avoidance, although I am curious if you might use Bypass Mode when using Active Track. I appreciate your advice and find it much more helpful than the advice Polonius gave Laertes. I am having great fun with the Air 3. Cheers from Wisconsin, my friend.
Thanks George! Although I am completely opposite; everyone gets my advice and I hear no-one.... except through these comments! Glad you're loving the Air 3 Cheers, Ian
or should I use these settings for the Mavic 3 Classic with the latest updates?🙌
These are very similar to the Mavic 3 Classic
@@IaninLondon Do you recommend these settings compared to those in your mini 3 pro video? Thank you
In my eyes bypass mode is awful. Nearly a bug. Since several months now. Dji has to adjust.
Please explain further your opinions
@@theone2be33 the drone has a strange flight behavior in bypass mode. It does not react properly to the flight commands, especially when flying at low altitude.
How far will it go!
Everything else is shit!
like we buy drone for ex po say ...---,,, FFS
Depends. Open line of sight? 7 miles or so.
Bury your head in the sand then if you don't like it. Stop being a player hater
Cool
