  • Nick Taylor authorised Stack and Tilt and GOLFTEC instructor discusses one of the most popular discussions on the Stack and Tilt golf swing - The weight shift.
    A lot of golfers are led to believe the weight shifts from right foot to left foot in the swing, however stack and tilt believes the weight should remain on the left throughout the backswing and then move forward.

    Thanks for the detailed explanation. I tried these techniques with the woods and irons yesterday and today, and the results were improved contact, distance and ball flight. The key explanation was the body movement for the weight shift at address. I am looking forward to timing the moves better.

    Brilliant!!! I'm just starting on my SnT journey and this really breaks down the data contained in the book, which is free btw on the SnT site.
    Nick - two questions:
    1. should I focus on the feeling of turning around my lead leg? That's the sensation and I try to focus on one thing
    2. you didn't mention the tuck, when do you start that or does it come naturally, especially in the driver? In the book the note the tuck is key to ensure the shallowing for the driver.

    hi nick. great videos. i am trying to resurrect my golf game so that i can enjoy playing in my retirement. So no great expectations. i have been working on the S and T swing with so decent success. i have also purchased the book. one question that i having some trouble understanding is what the book describes as the spine extension in the backswing - the book says the spine must go from flexed forward at address to to fully elongated at the top to flexed forward again on the downswing to fully elongated at the finish. - i get the finishing position. - but not sure of the backswing sequence etc

    • @NickTaylorGolf
      @NickTaylorGolf  2 года назад

      That's correct, it's hard to explain in a comment but you need to ensure you tilt your left shoulder down in the backswing as this combined with the extension of the spine will help keep your head stable

  • @danawindhorst3178
    @danawindhorst3178 Год назад +2

    Two questions, Nick. First, regarding weight distribution, what about toward the heels versus toward the toes at address and through the swing? Second, I am seeing my head (on video) and shoulders shift a couple of inches left (I’m right-handed), along with my hips, at the start of the downswing. And watching a slow motion video from the front, of your swing, it appeared to me your hips are rotating more than mine while they are shifting, so my thought was that I am not rotating my hips enough to start the downswing. But in one of the comments you said rotating the hips too much to start the downswing is a downfall of high handicappers. So what is the key to avoiding the toward-the-target shift of my head that occurs with the hip shift?

    • @NickTaylorGolf
      @NickTaylorGolf  Год назад +2

      Weight centered on feet at setup, i would focus on hip sway and tilting the right shoulder down more in the downswing. Start with practice swings with a shorter finish to get a feeling for this movement

  • @scottsteibel
    @scottsteibel Месяц назад +2

    So during the downswing the tilt to the right will push the left hip forward correctly?
    Thanks

    • @NickTaylorGolf
      @NickTaylorGolf  Месяц назад

      I would say the hip sway will create the tilt at impact. You don’t want to tilt the head back in downswing (keep it as stable as possible)

  • @maxdre
    @maxdre Год назад

    7:09 you said you want to start the downswing with the lower body. Can you explain what you're feeling to start it? Are you feeling your lead hip lead, push off the right foot?

  • @nepheshr290
    @nepheshr290 2 года назад +2

    Are you consciously moving the hips forward or just letting them move forward?

    • @NickTaylorGolf
      @NickTaylorGolf  2 года назад +1

      Consciously for me while i'm explaining this video but not something I need to focus on when playing as already do this well

  • @canefan17
    @canefan17 2 года назад +1

    Nick, looks like you try to feel more rotation (clearing lead hip) than a lateral hip bump in downswing. Is that true?
    Rob, on the other hand has a more pronounced hip bump in downswing.
    Just curious.

    • @NickTaylorGolf
      @NickTaylorGolf  2 года назад

      I wouldn't say I have more turn than Rob, we both have plenty of hip sway for sure and the majority of high handicappers turn more than they sway in the downswing

  • @canefan17
    @canefan17 2 года назад +1

    If I heard you correct.. you said the weight shift at address is the trigger for you to start the swing?

  • @jerryosullivan5302
    @jerryosullivan5302 2 года назад

    Nick, weight fwd at address has always confused me with the different irons. In this video you are using a 7 iron with the ball approx 1 inch ahead of the centre of your stance. So as you lean forward I inch your nose, sternum & hips are centred over the ball which puts you in a position covering the ball. However & this is my confusion, if you take a higher lofted club, say a wedge, with the ball now centred in your stance ( as recommended) and lean fwd 1 inch you become centred 1 inch ahead of the ball ie not centred over the ball - is that what is supposed to happen. Thanks

    Stack n tilt is a game changer, but once I get to 6 iron I stop elevating the ball enough to stay on greens. I’m sure you see this a lot in students. Any good remedies?

    • @NickTaylorGolf

      Generally long irons require a lot of club head speed to be able to create the height and descent angle to hold the greens
