- Thanks for watching Halo Lore - The Forerunner Technology Tiers! In this video we will be discussing the technological tiers set down by the forerunners to gauge a societies achievement in technology. You might just learn something about humanity and san shyuum in the process! What are the perils of greater technology? What is the limit of a biological organisms ability to understand technology? who had the greatest tech of all the species? Lets find out here!

Roanoke Gaming couldn't you become a tech teir 1 in Stellaris as you can build ringworlds and habitats that act like planets?
Unfortunately, the writing directions in 343 in the halo escalation comics concluded due to the attempted manipulations of Dr. Hasley trying to claim all the Forerunner knowledge for herself, both halves of the Janus key were vaporized by the Forerunner A.I that was guarding the vault. So no one gets their hands to Tier 1 status, not Jul Madama's covenant faction or the humans in the UNSC because they were all deemed untrustworthy.
Roanoke Gaming but the flood ARE the precursors. Well, they’re a mutated form of them.

Technically the Flood were the Forerunners fault.
that is why you don't spoil your children
technically the flood was human's fault
@John Doe it wasnt on purpose the precursors didnt know the dust would corrupt and make them flood
The humans had the flood in check had it not been the forerunners. Precursors made the flood because of the forerunners.
Double whammy. Def. The forerunners fault.
No ancient humans are the ones that started it
Our tier 2 was reclaimed with blood, sweat, and tears
because we are better than the other species!
Roanoke Gaming Your god damn right we are!
crazy the only reason we lost the war is because we were fighting on multiple front and still holding everyone and the flood off lol
Vernard Pugh Ancient human are badass.
Human fought in two front. One against the flood, and the second against the forerunner. Even so, they lasted one thousand.
You know what’s ALWAYS nagged at me? Why no one has stumbled across ancient HUMAN technologies. Yeah I know the Forerunners stomped them in their weakened state, but let’s not forget Humans rivaled the Forerunners technologically speaking. I agree with the Librarian, if not for the Flood, Humans may have ascended to an even greater technological scale perhaps even beyond the Forerunners.
I’m not sure if anyone’s agrees with this, but I feel like the novels hint at the Forerunners having hit a kind of evolutionary wall, they were becoming stagnant technologically. Even the Didact before going insane had a deep respect for Humans and saw the potential they had, he often corrected the young manipular in his company regarding Humans and their abilities when the younger Forerunner casted aspersions about them.
One reason maybe that the UNSC have in fact seen ancient humanities tech, but have been unable tell the difference from forerunner tech. The forerunners were the top of line compared to the other relevant civilizations at the time. So it's likely that ancient humans emulated alot of forerunner tech to some degree, much like how 3rd world counties have emulated alot of 1st world countries practices and tech, if only to compete. Sure, they'll often try and put their own spin on it to make it their own, but that'll often be a cultural difference, not a technological one.
Godlessfuture. My guess is that archeologist label any highly advanced tech as forerunner unless data states otherwise fair to assume with a high range esthetic styles amongst humans why not aliens. Interestingly ancient human and some covenant ships look very simular. Perhaps the covenant misidentified some artifacts during thier early expansion in space.
Makes you wonder what’ll happen if the net is casted a bit wider. Maybe one day we’ll get to see the territories that humans populated further out. Perhaps even see the origin sites of where they found the Precursor powder.
As far as aesthetics, I can agree with the “all technology leads to the same road” assumption. Many of the artifacts in the possession of humans was built upon what was learned from precursor ruins so it’s not a leap to assume similarities between human/forerunner tech, visual or otherwise.
Halo Legends: The babysitter. The ancient buildings are Human. Also a Halo 5 armour set is reversed engineered from an old derelict ship implying ancient Humans. Some stuff have fell through the cracks when the Forerunners did a technological hut after the Human-Forerunner War.

That sums up how badass we are. No wonder the Forerunners got jealous when Grampa Precursor favourited us.

Tbh here, badass or not, if the tech parrity is too much it doesn't matter. ( Remember, the one who attack Earth during Halo 2 is just a small fleet, and they still manage to breach through the defense. If that Fleet have the same size as Reach invasion one, Earth doesn't stand a change.
The only reason UNSC, and humanity in extent, won the war is not because we defeat the Covenant militiraly, it's the Covenant *break apart and it's member are fighting each other* while we *didn't* .
If the flood is cancer are the halo rings a form of chemotherapy?
The rings are more like a bullet. If you kill the person, the cancer cant live, that was the forerunner logic, All the rings do is starve the flood

agreed on that man! I am sure I could study it, but of what use would it be? haha
Roanoke Gaming yeah I think it basically means like the whole universe and all of existence is actually one gigantic organism
Why is it the Forerunners at the end of the war with the flood were basically like: "Hey, we've chosen Humanity to claim our legacy... but we'll keep them at Tier 7 so it takes longer for them to out do us."
Jedi Spartan so we don’t make the same mistakes they did
i dont remember much wasnt that decision made by the didact, and wasn't agreed by most of tye forerunner especially the librarian.
Just because a species is technologically advanced. Doesn't mean it is culturally advanced.
Another sci-fi example would be Mass Effect. The salarians uplifted the Krogan and the krogan decimated themselves. In real life, humanity nuked out own planet 1000s of time and nuked our own species twice.
Because 343 did not and still doesn’t understand Halo, Bungie explicitly stated that the Forerunners were Human numerous times, it’s not exactly clear how this worked either direct Forerunners (which had no memory of any technology) were placed on earth or ancient humanity were close enough to Forerunners to be genetically influenced to become Forerunners, the latter fits with Halo’s religious themes with humanity being created in the image of God (Forerunners)
@@helljumper7101as bad as 343 is at making games the lore is so much better than bungies ideas. They had so many lore holes in their games and books. dont let your hate for 343 blind you. Read the Forerunner books, the lore is awesome.

If you think about it, Halo is essentially a sibling rivalry between the favorite kids (Covies) and the kid that is either ignored or getting in trouble (Humans)...
Does that make the flood the equivalent to being spoiled by grandpa?
I would almost see the covenant as that kid that used to pick on you in elementary school but then you get to high school and youre twice their size, now the Forerunners, they are the sibling rivalry because papa precursors liked the humans more
Roanoke Gaming yeah pretty much. Papa Precursor chose Kid Humans to take over the family business but Brother forerunner got upset and waged a war with the humans while the humans fought the flood
Zee Naught And when the humans managed to atleast halt the flood advancement the Forerunners decided to attack them, what happens next may surprise you...
The flood came back and proton fucked the Forerunners.
virgilio moncada Not really surprising.
No the flood Is grandpa
I find the technological tiers from Halo is very accurate compare to Kardashev scale. Why don't the scientific community use this?
There's no reason to categorise species in a tier set because we are the only non primitive ones so it make no sense
It makes perfect sense for any civilization that are developing. You have to go through agriculture development first to sustain a population before Industrialization. Then more leading into more complexity such as the Atomic age & then into the Space age with doing & discussing the ideas through trial & errors, every civilization in the universe has to go through these steps. Some civilizations will develop faster or slower depending on environmental, cultural & political factors as well as resource availability.
Kardashev scale is very weak model, I can understand it's based more on energy consumption fron the last time I read but it's gotta link in technological development to harness the energy along with other factors. Which I think the one Bungie made suprisely is very accurate for a video game which concludes all factors which scientific modelling is all about in our world.

@@lukeeckstein3498 Humanity would change beyond recognition. Cybernetics and bio-engineering would be top notch and would change the fundamentals that makes us human.
Many species would come from Humanity if this keeps happening. Think about digital minds and cloning.
Another good example I will add today is you can have a civilization that consumes more energy than we do today with our more advance digital technological but they have lesser advance analog technology, for example; a civilization uses complete nuclear energy using reactors by our standards from the 50-70s on thier homeworld, they have solved the politcal & economic problems & made it happen while we use a combination of energy-harnessing technology that some are weaker than others due to politcal & economic fracturing. Hense why I stand-by my original comment that the current scientific modelling is weak when trying to discuss how other civilizations develop by using energy-harnessing modelling.
Wonder wtf tier the empire of mankind in warhammer 40k is
well, space faring, pretty expansive, probably high tier 2, low tier 1
kaneki san Tech Tier : God emperor.
Hmm that makes sense also thx for the reply!!
God tier
Tier 3, that would make sense with the dark age of technology being early tier 2 and the Eldar and their cool things like the webway mid or late tier 2. It can't be higher than that since in 40k humanity receded in technology after the cybernetic revolt, much knowledge is lost and they hate AI's because heresy (they forgot why exactly an AI is a bad idea, so heresy)
Funny how Humanity never found any of the Technology, from when Humans fought in the Fore-Runner and Human War!
The UNSC apparently found an ancient human ship:
www.halopedia.org/Ancient_humanity#Rediscovery
They found a derelict ship and reverse-engineered the technology into the *Hellcat* armor in Halo 5 multiplayer.
Another example is in Halo Legends: The Babysitter -- the planet it is set on was unknowingly a lost ancient human city.
It's because forerunners destroyed their technology

MysTic Gaming what scientifically accurate things in mass effect? it runs on space magic
@@TS-jm7jm what's space magic in Mass effect?
Element Zero. Its an element that technically can give you the middle finger to physics and send stuff to other star systems. A real life equivalent to that would be exotic matter (though were nowhere close to creating the stuff, much less use them for space travel) as you can actually achieve ftl travel with that sort of matter. I'm pretty damn sure that if that one element was gone, nothing in mass effect would work. Absolutely. Nothing.
@@ScorpioTear element 0 and biotics. I love mass effect to death. But element 0 is used to explain away literally anything. Therefore space magic.

I’m gonna be honest and say that I expected this to be another video where some dude just reads of off Halopedia, but towards the end you provided much greater insight into the universe and actually helped me understand Neural Physics much better than before. Great vid, you’ve earned a sub.
Thanks for the sub bro! I usually read Wikis to gain some knowledge and also other lore pages but then I write all my own scripts from scratch, I am glad you liked it enough to sub!
I would say that until permanent human presence in space is achieved we haven't reached tier 4 yet.
I'd say we are at early tier 4
Tier 0 seems to me as the starting point to a inter-dimensional civilization. As they understand the complete universe they inhabit in & to travel to other dimensions & stay there. Then it goes -1, -2, -3 etc all the way to Godhood where the civilization reachs the ultimate singularity where they can control & create space/time & physics itself. That's my theory. 😂
Then extreme religious people lose their shit
Actually tier-0 in itself is what you mentioned...precursors manipulated the very fabric of reality to create matter from mind...star roads are one examples built from exotic energy that connects their mind and universe...

I feel like we’re missing an “agricultural” tier. Jumping straight from hunting/gathering to industrialization seems incredibly inaccurate.
Unless of course Tier 7 also incapsulates our history prior to industrialization, but this video describes it as being WAAAAAY more primitive.
We do have agricultural tier around 12,000 years ago simultaneously with livestock rising tier (although very differently than modern agriculture and livestock rising). During our nomadic hunter-gatherers tier we discovered that certain edible plants seeds we thrown to grow have possibility to grow to new edible plants, so during that period when we about to leave the area to find new prey we throw the seeds and comeback next year to harvest them as supplement, which coincidentally also around the time we start rising livestock, as a result we coincidentally discover very rough genetic engineering when we noticed that if we marrying two different individual from same species with favorable traits with each other there are higher possibility that their kid will also bear those favorable traits, so over 12 millenials we continuously evolve our agriculture plants and livestock with more and more favorable traits for us until we hit new high of genetic engineering like CRISPR and GMO while also Intellectually evolve our species from simple hunter-gatherers to space age civilization.
Check Kurzgesagt
Tier 7 is simply called pre-industrial, not nomadic. So you're actually right.
During this age humans (and other sentient beings) had no concept of modern materialism and economic systems. They were conncted to nature and were intimate with local tribes. People from other tribes were as alien as different species.
The idea of evolution and humans gaining global primacy of the planet by means of technology did not simply arise at that tier.
the forerunner technology that the covenant had was originally planned to be sent to earth by mendicant bias but was latter accidentally given to the san shayoom. This technology was the dreaghnout that powered high charity.

I'm glad you liked it! Tech tiers have always been fascinating, mainly because we actually use them in real life to rate humanities progress so far!
My own personal headcannon hypothesis for neural physics is that, essentially, were we to find a unifying theory of everything, within the Halo universe anyways, it'd look something like an algorithm that generates the universe itself, and potentially capable of generating other universes with small tweaks to the variables, encompassing everything that exists and how it all mechanically works, and that one consequence of all that is that, within the fabric of the universe, through all dimensions and time, there is a network of points linked together through the infinite endlessness of it all. So if the fabric of the universe is weaved from threads of space and time that are all interconnected and intertwined, those threads are woven together by this endless neural network of links. Now this network is essentially unthinking as it doesn't have any sort of cognitive adaptations, it's just an endless set of linked points created by an algorithm, there's no real rhyme or reason to it, but nevertheless, there are elements within the universe that mirror the structure of these links, particles, atoms, molecules, and, of course, the neurological systems of living things. Thus all things are in some way connected to this neural web and this neural web is connected to all things. Especially the nervous systems of living things. This also essentially would explain how the gravemind, and potentially all living things, could essentially manifest seemingly psychic abilities to communicate across space and time as well as to manipulate things within it. However, without a true understanding of how this neural web works and is formed an individual cannot consciously manipulate it as it's more complicated than just focusing intent. You might accidentally cause a cup to move by unwittingly manipulating neural physics but you would never be able to repeat it or willfully do other things with it without understanding it. This could also possibly explain why things created through manipulation of neural physics or which tap into it can seemingly defy the natural laws of the universe. It's the foundation of the foundation of the universe. You're manipulating how the universe works by manipulating it's very essence, in a sense, redefining it through warping it to your will. At least, that's how I sort of think of it. In a weird way it's almost like the force but less mystical as it doesn't really possess a will, it just sort of is and, indeed, things that actually have a will and understand it can manipulate it to their will in the same way an advanced civilization in the Halo universe manipulates fundamental forces like gravity to give their ships artificial gravity or manipulate slipspace to cross vast distances of the universe. It's almost the fundamental force of the universe itself, the fundamental force of all fundamental forces. I realize this all probably sounds absurdly esoteric but it's my own way of understanding an entirely fictional sci-fi concept. The whole point, of course, is that it is so esoteric and unknowable in and of itself as a fictional concept that it has whatever properties the writers need it to. It's the "a wizard did it!" of the Halo universe. I just sort of enjoy trying to form some kind of understanding of concepts like it cause they're good thought exercises in a way and can inspire new, interesting, and unique worldbuilding ideas.
I'd argue it's people like you being fucking pricks about fiction that isn't meant to be taken seriously as actual science because it fucking isn't but, you know, go off I guess.
@Luke Wilson Also, maybe before getting on someone else for not mastering whatever the fuck you think they should be doing you should master your own goddamn grammar. "That's out problem." That's shit I'd fix in ten seconds and you've left it sitting for a whole hour at time of writing.
What's the name of the live Acton scenes depicting how Spartans were made & the assembly lines of guns, armor, vehicles etc? I see these clips a fair bit but have e never been able to find a comment or video description of the name f the live action or where to find it. Help?
We're halfway there boy's, the Space Age awaits.
You should do a collaboration with Isaac Arthur to see how this compares to the Kardishev scale, which is the version scientists use in real life. Basically, a K1 civilization has extracted every source of energy their homeworld has to offer (I think he said that humans are currently k0.71, don't quote me though), a K2 civ has built a fully-functional dyson sphere around their star, and a K3 Civ has built a dyson sphere around every star in their home galaxy. To a k3 Civ, a planet isn't a place you live, it's a bundle of raw materials with which to build a place to live.
About the sangheili and the Sam shyuum they started at the same time as humanity did, the punishment of the humans by the forerunners wast before the halos were activated once they fired everyone went back to Stone Age.
I’m way too focused, so much so that the light thump in the video every 5 seconds messed with my brain😭
I really didn't expect to enjoy this video so much. It was awesome!
If the covenant had fought humanity during they're Empire days before the Flood existed, the Covenant would have gotten CLAPPED.
I find it weird that there's no intermediate tier between the hunter-gatherer stage and industrial revolution.
Hey, RG, can you do a Tech Tier for All Tomorrows there's a lot of species raising and falling in that book
500 years in the future and our tanks expose its crew to small arms fire and still uses 40 mm guns which was long outdated by WWII
Well they were in peace
Ancient tech tier 1 humanity
"We wuz kangz across the galaxy 'n shiiieeet"
What do you think life would be like if humans found the Forerunner tech before the covenant did? Kinda tough to picture in your head what their armor and weapons and ships would be like.
What is that video of the ancient humans and forerunners? Is there an official lore movie with it
Man, no matter which universe, Humanity is a fricken mutant. They jump into different tiers within decades, vs. millenia.
Great video. Got my wife very interested in halo for the first time since I've known her.
ayyyee glad I could convert her! haha also happy yall enjoyed the video!
Interesting even the Drones reached Tier 4. 🤔
13:25 I have never seen anybody deal with haters that way, evolution really exists
I really hope Halo Infinite let's us see some ancient human tech. Even if we can't use it, I want to see some weapons our ancestors used.
What’s the song you use in the background? Great video by the way Roanoke, you never disappoint!
Thanks bro! Unfortunately my computer was destroyed when the apartment above me flooded so I dont have access to it anymore
