`I can`t give you anything but love, baby` ist ein erfolgreicher amerikanischer Jazzstandard, geschrieben von Jimmy Mc Hugh (musik) und Dorothy Fields (Text). Der Song wurde erstmalig im Januar 1928 von Adelaide Hall veröffentlicht, in einer Revue im Ambassadeus Club, New York City.
In der Folgezeit gab es unzählige Versionen bekannter Weltstars, besonders Sängerinnen und Sänger interpretierten den Titel, darunter Doris Day, Louis Armstrong, Marlene Dietrich, Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald u.v.m. Aber auch Instrumentalversionen von Jazzstars wie Duke Ellington folgten und machten `I can`t give you anything but love, baby` bis heute zu einem Jazz Klassiker.
Joscho Stephan & friends nahmen deshalb den Song am 21.09.2021 mit ins Repertoire und heraus kam eine fulminat swingende Gitarren Version, garniert mit dem einfühsamen Geigenspiel von special guest Costel Nitescu.

"I Can't Give You Anything but Love, Baby" is an American popular song and jazz standard by Jimmy McHugh (music) and Dorothy Fields (lyrics). The song was introduced by Adelaide Hall at Les Ambassadeurs Club in New York in January 1928 in Lew Leslie's Blackbird Revue, which opened on Broadway later that year as the highly successful Blackbirds of 1928 (518 performances), wherein it was performed by Adelaide Hall, Aida Ward, and Willard McLean.
Since then many famous female & male singers had released their own versions of this tune like Doris Day, Marlene Dietrich, Louis Armstrong, Diana Krall and many more. But also jazz instrumentalists like the famous Duke Ellington were performing this track which became an old time Jazz classic. That`s why Joscho Stephan & friends in September 2021 put `I can`t give you anything but love, baby` on the set list.
Their interpretation is a strong guitar swing mixed with the wonderful violin playing by Costel Nitescu. They can`t give you anything but swing.....

Costel Nitescu, the Romanian violinist, is the real star here. There are less than a handful of gypsy jazz violinists at his level. There is at least a dozen excellent gypsy jazz guitarists.
