En esta Pelea Taylor era el de mayor rapidez , pero Chavez era el de la potencia y quijada, y cuando Chavez tiro a Taylor se levantó pero estaba noqueado, le contaron los 10 segundos de protección y le preguntaron si podía continuar si estaba bien, y NUNCA RESPONDIO Y NUNCA SE SOLTO DE LAS CUERDAS , hasta que subió su entrenador Dan Duva y se lo llevo a su esquina, y Chavez salió limpio de la cara y sin lesiones y a Taylor se lo llevaron al hospital donde duró 3 días internado y tuvo fracturas de ambos pómulos, de tabique nasal y de 3 costillas , y estuvo orinando sangre 4 días ESTO LO NARRA EL MISMO TAYLOR EN SU LIBRO " A 3 SEGUNDOS DE LA GLORIA" 'y a partir de esta pelea Taylor quedó con daño psicomotriz de por vida , y posteriormente Chavez 4 años después volvió a noquear a Taylor pero ahora en el round 8, y esta pelea fue reconocida por THE RING la mejor pelea de la década de los 90s . Un gran boxeador Taylor, muy rápido, técnico y valiente, que hubiera llegado lejos pero se encontró con Chavez que fue una prueba de fuego que no pudo superar. GRANDE CHAVEZ .

Soy Argentino en mi era mis ojos jamas han visto un boexeador como su majestad JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ , los que ven boxeo solo por entrtenimiento pero no saben lo que es pelear en diferentes pesos, con los mejores boxeadores del momento sin huirle a ninguno, y con una tecnica depurada de defensa y ataque, bueno esos que mencione jamas entenderan que tan bueno fue su majestad CHAVEZ. Igual busque la pelea por leer que dijo el boxeador Julio C Chávez que el le tiraba 5 golpes y recibía 10 o 15 de parte de Taylor que era muy rápido. Y bueno si se vio en el 12 round como cae de primera vez y ya la segunda fue para no volver a reaccionar. Muy rápido pero no con tanta resistencia como Julio César.

Some people didn't like this stoppage by Steele but this isn't a movie, it's real life and a man's health and possibly life was at stake. Chavez could have literally landed a couple shots on Taylor in those last 5 seconds that could have ruined Taylor's mental health for the rest of his life.
If you noticed when Chavez buckled Taylor's legs the announcers suddenly got quiet and when Taylor went down the Same thing. That's how biased lampley and merchant were.

Chavez took a beating but Taylor’s punches were just not that devastating and probably more important is Chavez’s chin in his prime was made of some type of alloy. Did Taylor get cheated? Possibly. Pero este combate memorable está entre los mejores, sin duda. Qué manera de entregarse y golpearse, de estos dos inmensos gladiadores del ring. Toda la pelea no se dieron tregua. Y en un combate estrecho, triunfó el mejor, el más completo. Qué bestia era Chávez, que fajador, qué resistencia física, que manera de esquivar y pegar, etc. Notable.

Taylor had balls of steel, he fought Chavez in his own game, literally he could have used his legs and box all night but no he stood his ground against a lethal puncher and paid the price for it. Respects for Taylor.
Taylor was as tough as they came. Lou Duva drew a circle in the middle of the ring for Taylor's training for this fight. He told Taylor to stay in the middle of the ring against Chavez. In his prime, nobody could run from Chavez. He'd cut the ring off and pin you against the ropes where he'd batter you mercilessly. Of course Duva knew this and had Taylor avoiding the ropes. Unfortunately, this meant a lot of toe to toe action with Chavez. Once Chavez wore him down, he led Taylor to the ropes where he knocked him out. Had Taylor not been stopped, he would have won a split decision.

You have to have a fair bit of sympathy for Taylor. He put a level of of effort, power, skill, guts and speed into this fight that would have won him a belt against most normal opponents. But there was something terrifyingly inevitable about Chavez.
Chavez constantly talks about how Taylor pushed him further than any fighter in his career. Taylor’s amazing ability to continue pushing into a man that was clearly hurting him is mesmerizing. A part of my wishes he didn’t though, we can see a man literally leaving everything he has in that ring in these videos. We will never know how truly amazing of a fighter Taylor could have been.

Taylor had a broken eye socket, was urinating pure blood, had broken ribs and lost about a pint of blood. Taylor was taken from the ring in a stretcher and sent to the hospital to save his life. Taylor suffered concussion type injuries. He stated that Richard Steele didn't give him a count but Taylor looked confused when a replay was shown to Taylor where a count was indeed given to Taylor. Chavez just hit much harder than Taylor. We saw more evidence of this in the rematch. Again, Taylor needed to be supported by two men to stand up and talk. After the rematch Taylor said, "He's (Chavez) is just a great fighter." Taylor said it all.
Chávez said he felt like he needed to vomit but he held back the urge because boxers die from the aneurysm induced from vomiting. Indeed, it was Chavez’s most difficult fight of his career.
Si pudiera definir el box en una escena seria esta a partir del min. 10:10 al minuto 10:35 vaya cátedra de estos dos boxeadores. Vaya manera del manejo de cabeceó y juego de cintura de Chávez. Sin echarse para atrás siempre para adelante y vaya aguante y vaya manera elegante de salir de esa magnifica combinación de golpes de Taylor.
Que peleón. Chávez tenía perdida la pelea por puntos y tumbar a meldrick en el último minuto fue sensacional. Yo vi esa pelea por TV en Colombia y fue espectacular, que buen boxeo.

El JC no era solo golpes, también tenía un defensa muy respetable y efectiva, nunca fue el más rápido de piernas, ni tuvo el mejor banding, pero defensivamente era efectivo y estaba por encima de la media de boxeadores. A la ofensiva bueno, ya sabemos todos su historia de éxitos.

I still remember how incredibly biased this was called by the HBO crew. In the twelfth round they said the fight had been completely Dominated by Taylor. All the while it looked like Meldrick was beaten with a baseball bat😕
Numerically, Taylor won every round, including the 12th except for the knockdown. But, at the end, Chavez won fair and square. Not only did Taylor not answer the referee, but he was holding onto the ropes to keep himself up. He was out.
@@douglasall8447 chavez simply wore down a very fit andvgame Taylor. You could see it coming in the 10th. Taylor's legs start to get a little wobbly. They look recovered for much of ithe 11th but wobble again right towards the end. Same story for the 12th until that ovrerhand right from chavez with about 40 secs to go. Then the shark smells the blood in the water.
All I can say is that was one of the greatest displays of fighter skill, endurance, and toughness I have seen on both parts. Unfortunately we have to respect what the referee sees inside the ring. Taylor didn’t respond and was rocked badly. How Chavez withstood all of those punches for the entire fight I’ll never know. To then come back in the last two rounds the way he did and still be bouncing around as though it was the first round - what a blessed era for boxing that was.

Some people have said Chavez’s record is “padded” and he only fought taxi drivers but this guy that he beat was a Olympic Gold Medalist in Boxing and defeated Floyd’s uncle Roger Mayweather. He is was a three weight champion and defended his title 27 times and went 89 fights undefeated. Nobody becomes a three weight champ by only fighting bums
Esta pelea es un deleite para quienes amamos el boxeo. Ninguno de los dos trató de correr y dar vueltas en el cuadrilátero para despistar al otro. Los dos sabían que tenían que darlo todo. Fue muy disputada de principio a fin. Gracias a estos dos boxeadores porque lo dieron todo en esta pelea.
Dejaron todo en el ring, de verdad, de hecho Taylor nunca fue el mismo, esa noche era a darlo absolutamente todo porque ambos eran grandes, por supuesto que siendo mexicano tengo un gran aprecio por Julio, pero Taylor era buenisimo
For those saying this got stopped early, the ref clearly counted to 8 at which point he was asking him if he was okay and Taylor’s eyes were lost and unresponsive, it was a true 10 count. Very deserving win by Chávez.

Mrpelavergas entonces quien gano fijate bien taylor al momento de caer y quererse lebantar se agarro de las cuerdas, durante la cuenta nunca las solto no mostro una señal de que estaba consiente el referi le hablo y no respondio se acabo la pelea y no solto las cuerdas nunca reapondio estoy bien puedo pelear o me siento mal, taylor era mas rapido que chavez tiraba mas golpes que chavez y aguantaba muchos golpes eso nadie lo duda pero la tecnica de julio era mas eficaz golpes certeros al rostro y a la zona blanda y ademas le aflojo las piernas en varias ocaciones el golpe al rostro que le dio en el centro del ring segundos antes del golpe letal fue demasiado fuerte que se le aflojo el cuerpo y se fue en banda rumbo a la esquina y de hay pues ya sabes el final le arranco la cabeza, o piensas que taylor aplico la tecnica de kiko del chavo del 8 darle de narisasos en los puños o cual es tu justificacion para decir lo contrario y te aclaro el referi albitro juez o jugador tiene el derecho de parar cualquier deporte si se esta en peligro la salud de las personas, no mijo hay un mundo de porques del trinfo de chavez.

Uff, no soy muy fanático del box, lo veo de vez en cuando, sabía algo de JC Chavez pero al ver esta pelea, me quedé impresionado, que rapidez de Taylor y q valor, eso es indiscutible, pero CHAVEZ, que resistencia, que fuerza, que poder y que corazón, tenía que tener sangre latina. Que orgullo tan grande no solo para los amigos mexicanos si no para toda América latina. Un hincha más aquí desde Perú del gran JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ 💪
This is my favorite fight of all time. I watched it live when it happened and have watched it countless times. What sickens me about this is how bias the HBO comentarors were, I don't take anything from Taylor, what a terrific fighter he was, a clean respectful fighter all the way. But this guys were trying to hard to make seem like Julio was not even there, there is a moment where Meldric did a flury of about 12 punches and they said Chavez on the verge of going down when only two landed. Than they said the great JCC reduced to head hunting, i mean Meldric went straight to the hospital after the fight urinating pure blood and a couple of fractured ribs, i do not think that came from head hunting. Anyways the greatest fight for me of all times i just put it in mute and enjoy.

Pero este combate memorable está entre los mejores, sin duda. Qué manera de entregarse y golpearse, de estos dos inmensos gladiadores del ring. Toda la pelea no se dieron tregua. Y en un combate estrecho, triunfó el mejor, el más completo. Qué bestia era Chávez, que fajador, qué resistencia física, que manera de esquivar y pegar, etc. Notable.

Taylor had balls of steel, he fought Chavez in his own game, literally he could have used his legs and box all night but no he stood his ground against a lethal puncher and paid the price for it. Respects for Taylor.
Taylor was as tough as they came. Lou Duva drew a circle in the middle of the ring for Taylor's training for this fight. He told Taylor to stay in the middle of the ring against Chavez. In his prime, nobody could run from Chavez. He'd cut the ring off and pin you against the ropes where he'd batter you mercilessly. Of course Duva knew this and had Taylor avoiding the ropes. Unfortunately, this meant a lot of toe to toe action with Chavez. Once Chavez wore him down, he led Taylor to the ropes where he knocked him out. Had Taylor not been stopped, he would have won a split decision.

Part of me feels for Taylor. He had too much heart. He took such a beating that he was never the same.
Chavez constantly talks about how Taylor pushed him further than any fighter in his career. Taylor’s amazing ability to continue pushing into a man that was clearly hurting him is mesmerizing. A part of my wishes he didn’t though, we can see a man literally leaving everything he has in that ring in these videos. We will never know how truly amazing of a fighter Taylor could have been.

Taylor suffered concussion type injuries. He stated that Richard Steele didn't give him a count but Taylor looked confused when a replay was shown to Taylor where a count was indeed given to Taylor. Chavez just hit much harder than Taylor. We saw more evidence of this in the rematch. Again, Taylor needed to be supported by two men to stand up and talk. After the rematch Taylor said, "He's (Chavez) is just a great fighter." Taylor said it all.
Chávez said he felt like he needed to vomit but he held back the urge because boxers die from the aneurysm induced from vomiting. Indeed, it was Chavez’s most difficult fight of his career.

Si pudiera definir el box en una escena seria esta a partir del min. 10:10 al minuto 10:35 vaya cátedra de estos dos boxeadores. Vaya manera del manejo de cabeceó y juego de cintura de Chávez. Sin echarse para atrás siempre para adelante y vaya aguante y vaya manera elegante de salir de esa magnifica combinación de golpes de Taylor.

All I can say is that was one of the greatest displays of fighter skill, endurance, and toughness I have seen on both parts. Unfortunately we have to respect what the referee sees inside the ring. Taylor didn’t respond and was rocked badly.
How Chavez withstood all of those punches for the entire fight I’ll never know. To then come back in the last two rounds the way he did and still be bouncing around as though it was the first round - what a blessed era for boxing that was.

Some people have said Chavez’s record is “padded” and he only fought taxi drivers but this guy that he beat was a Olympic Gold Medalist in Boxing and defeated Floyd’s uncle Roger Mayweather. Esta pelea es un deleite para quienes amamos el boxeo. Ninguno de los dos trató de correr y dar vueltas en el cuadrilátero para despistar al otro. Los dos sabían que tenían que darlo todo. Fue muy disputada de principio a fin. Gracias a estos dos boxeadores porque lo dieron todo en esta pelea.
Dejaron todo en el ring, de verdad, de hecho Taylor nunca fue el mismo, esa noche era a darlo absolutamente todo porque ambos eran grandes, por supuesto que siendo mexicano tengo un gran aprecio por Julio, pero Taylor era buenisimo

This is my favorite fight of all time. I watched it live when it happened and have watched it countless times. What sickens me about this is how bias the HBO comentarors were, I don't take anything from Taylor, what a terrific fighter he was, a clean respectful fighter all the way. But this guys were trying to hard to make seem like Julio was not even there, there is a moment where Meldric did a flury of about 12 punches and they said Chavez on the verge of going down when only two landed. Than they said the great JCC reduced to head hunting, i mean Meldric went straight to the hospital after the fight urinating pure blood and a couple of fractured ribs, i do not think that came from head hunting. Anyways the greatest fight for me of all times i just put it in mute and enjoy.

What happens is that Chavez has no face, he has a turtle shell as a face and hardly breaks and instead of bones has steel rods, he was built to receive and hit is a kind of Mexican robot.

I watched this fight with my Dad, St. Patrick's Day 1990 and was literally on the edge of my seat the entire 12 rounds...then the ending. Greatest fight I've ever seen!

@@capitalgains4194 would you believe I worked in an office of over 90 people and there's was only one other who watched fight and none of the rest had ever heard of either fighter. Also, espn sports center didn't even report the outcome, let alone cover the fight.

Just because he could have been SAVED BY THE BELL does not mean he deserves the trophy.
The aftermath of this fight for Taylor was devastating...thank goodness for standing 8 counts. It may have saved his life.
Yeah,it was the right call. He was giving commands to walk forward as refs do to measure a fighters awareness,he did not. It isn’t like a ref can say I’ll give him a little more time because the round is about to end.

He had enough heart to stand before the 10 count and expect the bell to save him. He would have won the fight if the ref had not stopped it. The fight was over the moment he stood back up. I would have thought after all this time and with everything we know about this fight and everything we know about CTE that the stoppage makes sense. And nowadays his own corner would of threw in the towel before Chavez got a chance to put him down

Esta pelea es lo máximo que he visto en muchos años. Aquí Chavez demostró toda su valentía y aguante ante un boxeador físicamente superior, rápido y técnicamente, aún así pudo nockearlo en el último minuto

I've always noticed right @10:02 - when Taylor is walking to the middle of the ring to start the 10th round, check out his stutter/misstep with his left leg. He is clearly a beaten man. Credit and respect to Taylor for staying in the fight and giving it all to the very end - he paid a tremendous price.

It doesn't matter how clean was Chavez's face, he has said many times that from the 10th round he felt was gonna collapse in his own words says that when he went to the corner he couldn't even stand again and was the only fight he truly felt dead and when he knocked him out he didn't even care about he just wanted the fight to finish for him to go cuz was felling was gonna faint
