LYRICS
Seventeen seconds and I'm over it
Ready for the disconnect
Putting on a brave face
Trying not to listen
to the voices in the back of my head
(But it's alright now)
It's a distant memory baby
(It's alright now)
You know you should just let it go
But some feelings have a habit of persisting
even though you wouldn't let it show
Wearing me out
(All this)
Hanging around
(It just starts)
Getting me down
('till I'm just)
Looking for an easy way out
Braindead from boredom
I'm led to distraction
Scratching the surface of life
Nothing really happens
But it's easy to keep busy
When you tell yourself you're traveling right
(But it's alright now)
Was it really worth it baby?
(It's alright now)
Was it just a waste of time?
Keep on second-guessing
Use my memory like a weapon
On everything I try - Видеоклипы
Why Gotye isn't that famous ?
Cause he's really an artist.
pretty much, only sell-outs and adele can be mainstream famous
Clorox bleach lmao what do you mean? He was famous ever since he released Now you're just Somebody that I used to know.
James Mikami This song just made him famous for sometime then people start forgetting about him, i mean it's his only song that passed more than 100m views but the other songs, i don't think so.
Clorox bleach "only song that passed 100 million" is 10 million views not enough to be considered popular. I promise you that 4 out of 5 people who listen to music know who Gotye is. Like chill out, he's not some under ground indie artist; he's one of the most mainstream out there.
***** that what is today's music about
Gotye is another one of the few music artists who really gets it
+Koopa368 I Agree
+Koopa368 and he's Belgian. At least one more thing worth getting recognition for.
He was born in Bruges. He is as Australian as Schwarznegger is American (he is austrian, just in case) so to say.
not like the other music artists...
I agree. Gotye, Adam Young, Regina Spektor, and The Paper Kites are probably the only music artists I personally know of that really understand what the title means.
Goddamn this video is a work of art.
Agreed.
Agreed :)
So underrated.
Te video is my life each and every week T.T
SergioEnrique Cortez-Bastidas
i feel like most people, like "one hit wonders," is that their most famous song is their best song. Somebody that I used to Know is good, but Gotye's the kind of guy where if you listen to more of his stuff it's even BETTER than what he's known for. i love the artistic-ness, effort, and meaning in his songs
Check out Little Cub. "My Nature" is my favorite track of theirs; I think you'll like it.
Exactly
@Taylor Holloway i feel like it's still his stage name though. he's the main creator of the songs, so i'm referencing him by the name he goes by when he makes/publishes them
Absolutely, I agree
It’s just like a-ha
The irony in listening to this on repeat is not lost on me.
+Trevor Austin u pc bro?
His walking reminds me of Coralines "other father" XD
+Moxie ModernEcho The whole bloody video makes me think of Coraline! Its freaky
i was thinking the same thing.
+Chanel Mafi true it is kind of weird
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
+Moxie ModernEcho it's funny that you say that because the other father is based off of my other favorite musician
Why is this song so short?? It's so freaking good.
Logen M it's not easy to make a good song like this
Of course it's not easy, what I'm saying is he could of extended it to 3 mins with some instrumentals just like he does with some of his other songs.
Logen M oh, okay
@@morriscat3 Agree 100% which is why there probably shouldn't be a music video for it; removes the context of the song whilst presenting simultaneously
It’s symbolic
good visual representation of my uni semester
lol
Good visual representation of a lot of adult life aspects
Princess Jesus hahaha
Same...
Everyone goes through this, we are stuck in a system that perpetuates this.
Ahhh feels so good to know some artists still put effort into a music video!
He's channeling Beck this time.
Actually, it would be funny as hell if Gotye made a Gaga-styled video to one of his songs.
pinz2022 And some Peter Gabriel
quite accurate
@@pinz2022 Haha I'm still waiting
No
Why isn't this more popular?
Because it's actually original and good.
that is the most accurate statement i've heard
It has well over 10 million views it's not really that unpopular
Well, compare this to the views of "Gangnam Style", and you'll get a sense of perspective.
StillersRock Gangnam Style was a meme lmao, these videos aren't even in the same realm. Next.
Ever notice that the best music artists are never popular?
It's hard to notice, because just as you said, they're not popular.
I feel bad that most people only know him because of Somebody that I used to know. The dude has many other bangers.
I agree!
Can you make s Playlist??
@@moctezuma336 just listen to all of his songs
Came from there and discovered a great selection of deeply varied tracks.
ah....the perfect song for a morning before college.....
ah, the accuracy
Corny ass comment
@@Marcus_-ej2go How so?
@@Marcus_-ej2go corny ass personality
Totally missing the point....
Gotye if you ever read this, let me explain why I think this is brilliant:
I interpret the length of the song as life, it's too short.
Your movement is tucked as if it's your duty, and not your own will. The days start to blend in and the fire could be the the build-up inside that at the end makes you say "Screw this, I'm taking the easy way out."
+Zee Prioncoatl
Yeah good one :))
A good critique ❤️
Finally someone actually talking about the music and video. You have my props
🙌💯❤️
this is the best music video in the universe.

I'm 26, and my life is becoming more and more like this song and video every day.
the biggest feel
Fightclub wasnt wrong
This song makes me cry. I feel exactly like in social anxiety panic attack.
That feel is horrible, horribly sad and depressing.
Me Too But Your Profile Pic Makes Me Feel Better
exactly .this is how I feel daily!
Polad Hasanov I thought that I commented your comment for a second and got really confused but then I realised
Yes people that love *good* music !!!
I hope you all feel better now,

My MAN!.. Thank you
He is the only artist that don't put ads on his songs. Salute!
I personally see this song as a visual representation of burn out and how it spirals into giving up
It perfectly depicts the effects of being burned out.
Gotye's got that thing about his music that makes it difficult to set him in a time period. I love it
One of the most relatable music videos ever. And most likely always will be.
Hope to see more of Gotye in the coming years.
People are always saying this guy dropped 1 song and vanished and I don’t believe any statement in this world pisses me off more bc they’re all missing out on these masterpieces.
I love the concept of his videos.
He seems like a person who has been through/is going through some rough times and he expresses himself via the art of music. Love it.
Our everyday life in one video
I remember a couple years ago when I was absolutely obsessed with Gotye and then for some reason I stopped listening to him. So glad I found him again ")
I was too, when Somebody I Use TK was still popular and research more about Gotye and found this magnificient piece of art.
+Andrei Sena Yup I kept listening to more and more songs. He's just so amazing
Gotye is a true artist. Absolutely LOVE him. Wish he would create more content. People like him don't come around too often.
This is like a metaphor for life.
This video was so fucking intriguing i didnt even know this song was only 2:12. Felt longer

The cat always gets me.
Still years later this is one of the best music videos I've seen. It's totally simple in concept but flawless in execution and I bet it wasn't easy to film and edit.
Also am I the only person to note that if you came here straight from Somebody You Used To Know, he's getting naked again. Maybe he likes it?
'Gotye' is the purest level you can achieve as an artist.
One of the things I love about Gotye is that he bothers with real music videos when most of the industry only really make a token stab at them these days or dismiss them as irrelevant. His always tell a real story.
This man has thee best music videos
This reminds me of the thoughts I have while doing online school.
I love how accurately the music video depicts life. There's a point where life becomes a vicious cycle and you desperately to find a way out.
I've found that, while I'm not always crazy about some of his songs, I always adore the music videos, and in effect, almost always end up loving the music because of it.
A great summary of life in this society
My life in one video
+nicolle1027 Me Too
Fucking art. It hits you so hard because you never see music like this anymore
Real, been listening to his music since I was 12, now I’m 18 and I understand it heavily
Watch this when your stoned. Its AWESOME !
rumor has it if you only watch half of this video and wait 7 days, Gotye turns up to your house in the rain and yells "you didn't have to cut me off" though your bedroom window.
This shold be 360 camra view XD
Nice idea
smart Idea but it wouldnt work because each scene has something different and you cant change scenes if its 360 there would be no way to hide the changes
I love this video, creative and great catchy tune.
The (sometimes....well...most of the time) crippling, dull, destructive monotony of modern life and existence.
Gotye hits the nail on the head again :D This man's an underdog prodigy
Anyone else think that his songs have meanings about how trapped we are as humans?
+a man in glastonbury here yes i do, this song describes my life perfectly
Holy crap Gotye, you predicted the future... RUclips 360° was created in 2015!
like, the best song ever! Did u guys know that it took him 9 months to make this?
An Artist and a Musician.
The style of this song reminds me so much of gorillaz
I like it
Gorillaz is making a new album, said to be released in June or September 2016! ;)
Janice Flett Ik, I was just pointing out how this song feels similiar to do ya thing
It's probably cause he sounds similar to Damon Albarn in it.
I was thinking the same thing
Natanael Esoxi this music video reminds of do ya thing
Geesh man, this music just never does and never will get old. This song definitely explains how life is just one hell of a handful. I can easily picture Gotye bring a movie actor too.
I absolutely love everything about this!! Definitely going to check out more of him. Everything is amazing
I felt this, i used to work at walmart, and when covid hit, the days began to blend, my bosses kept giving me more than i could handle, then i couldnt sleep, too worried id lose my job because i was the workhorse i was being burnt out while the rest of my team was fine no matter what, i left walmart, and im ok now
a year into lockdown and this is what my life feels like
I Miss This Song. 🖤
Sounds like "Day Tripper".
It does, it's played in the same key I guess...
+LALFAST ''Got a good reason, we're taking the Easy way out''
yes it is. I think the same thing. Pensé lo mismo después de algunas escuchas.
+Jc16 13 how bout "The invisible man who's always changing clothes
It's all about taking the easy way out for you, I suppose"
i like the pun haha
The only bad thing about Gotye is how long it takes him to make his albums.
+pigammon I don't want him to rush his work, though. But there's a fourth album being worked on, and I predict the first single will be released July 2017 at the latest.
The Icystorm 9 So. It's August 2018. Are you sure about that? ;)
@@pigammon7843 february 2019, im waiting.
I'm willing to wait if it means getting the gold he's been putting out!
@@Amishmediagroup july 2020
In 2023 and I still love this song
Early 2000s this would have been on mtv non stop
I think lots of us can relate to this song.
I remember watching this over and over when I was just a little kid who didn't know any English. I just liked the music, but couldn't understand the meaning of the lyrics and the video was the only thing I could suppose it was about... and damn, I always found it so sad, I still remember my thoughts being always like "I just don't want to end like this guy"
These are the type of MV’s that are worth watching! They give far more insight into a song.
Gotye predicted life.
I feel like this is about contemplating suicide hence "Easy Way Out"
teriyaki ckikin I thougth the same
teriyaki ckikin noooo
It has the same tune of Day Tripper as well by the Beatles
@@FSAPOJake well yeah suicide would be one of those things. i mean he even kills himself in the video by smashing his head against a typewriter
@@FSAPOJake I think it's a little bit of both. When you have chronic depression, it isn't always there, but there's episodes, it can stay for months and can lead to suicidal thoughts if it gets that bad. During these depressive episodes, you feel like the walking dead. You get no lasting joy out of things you actually like, nothing feels worth doing because it feels like there's no point. You feel like you're just going in circles, going through the motions, just to be back in the same spot you never moved from. It feels like a never-ending routine that you just want to be free from, and for some, that idea of freedom may include suicide. For others it might be running away, or some sort of drastic life change... or just sleeping life away until the depression wanes. All can seem like easy ways out.
I've listened to this song dozens of times and just now realized how awesome the bass part for the chorus is.
Fame isn't something a talented person "deserves" or ideally should strive for. The expression of the art in the chosen medium is its own reward. I hope that people don't think that fame is something that somehow tallies how "good" something is. I'm saying this because lots of comments in Gotye's music videos say "oh, why isn't he more famous?" and I think that's kind of.. a disappointing mindset? idk, just me?
Einstein through the same no joke 😔
why is this artist so underrated
Yes, that's how a normal person walks XD
Tori B. XDDD
Gotye is the epitome of excellent indie music :D
What a wonderful video, truly a throwback to the golden age of music video as art.
Anyone else notice the burning cat at 1:35?
omg! so sad... so sad
Yes
What about the Charlie Sheen´s pictura in the subway?i think that is rare
marcos quintero yes maybe even pacman but people knew it already
srsrsrs
I love the style of this Gotye music video! Reminds me of the MTV 80's music videos I grew up on like Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer
Only complaint about this song is that it's too short
His music videos look like he actually puts effort into them , unlike the run of mill you see nowadays
This is what happens when you don't take care of your sims lol
I feel like him on Monday, banging my head against the table. So creative though!
The fact that all his music is catchy but never made it to 100 million views except one
Gotye really doesn’t deserve to be a one hit wonder. This song is a real bop.
this song needs to be longer
A conclusion of this video
*Life has No purpose and meaning*
*You waking up with No reason*
*You have no desire in your mind*
basically, depression.
9 years later and this music video is still so god damn good
I forgot how funky this freaking track was
You made my life look boring lol and pointless....
lol
this is essentially my life lol
Mine too :(
Themanwhokilled god it's okay we go through part of our life doing this crap and then one day it'll lead to something good :)
canadiangirl3343 You're probably right, that's why we invented hope after all...
every time i watch it i notice something else new and different, makes me laugh.
so creative, so well done. i love gotye, one of the best performers i've ever seen.

I'm more like 1:21 doing Algebra.
it is 2022, and this video is still lit👏🏻

um.
This video is great and fits the song perfectly! Wish the song was longer though...
This dude is the most 80s 2010s musician :D
I really really love the part where his newspaper is on fire and he just starts reading a little farther from that end. It's such a perfect metaphor for how people don't think long-term.
Round and round we go. I'm feeling about like that too.
Just going through the motions kills us slowly
I love seeing the making of this video with Darcy and Wally and crew.
This is literally me in the quarantine zone
