6:11 Man, that climax, the descending minor 9 arpeggio in her voice, just kills me every time
This is truly one of the peak musical moments of the past 60 years and 244 people have liked it. Anais is a genius.
If I am completely honest I prefer the Tiny Desk version. Anais does best when its just her and a guitar. There is an intimacy to her music that just seems to work best in that context.
@@sacredgeometry I agree, the Tiny Desk version is devastating. Her guitar in duet with (I forgot his name)'s guitar, along with just her voice and the other particulars of that performance truly rose to the occasion. Afterwards I tuned into the album and found it to sound rather overproduced in comparison. Of course I've given it some time since then, and learn to love it for it's various and many qualities.
GOD THE TRANSITION FROM WILDERLAND TO YOUNG MAN... unparalleled
A landmark performance by a veteran artist, who is coming to broader attention thanks to the soon-to-be Tony award winning Broadway show, Hadestown. And of course, supported beautifully by some of the best players out there. :-)
She's super intense and a very powerful performer. She really had the audience sitting on the edge of their seats. Superb stuff.
There is no one else like Anaïs, and she is unlike anyone else, she's a treasure of humanity
Anais AND Rachael together??? OK, I can leave this world now.
Anaïs is the greatest singer-songwriter of our time. Nobody can hold a candle to her. To weave her inimitable magic she doesn't need this orchestra, just an acoustic guitar and her voice.
But don't believe me, listen to The Brightness (2007) and Xoa (2014).
didn't really know about Anaïs before Hadestown, and now I'm in love
She is so engaging - the power of texture just drawing the listener in. It reminds me of the early magnetism of Rickie Lee Jones. Devising their own genres. Perfect.
I remember seeing her on Mountain Stage right after this album came out with her band. She opened with this and it blew me away. Great lyrics, amazing arrangement.
it's really amazing to see how anais has grown as an artist and how much she's changed how she sings this song since it was recorded in 2012
This is just some of the best music I have ever listened to... amazing.
If you think that is amazing....have you seen/heard her off the scale of brilliance, Hadestown?? I believe broke records on Broadway!
I find her to be mesmerizing. Fantastic arrangement too.
when i heard hades town i was hooked, Anais will be considerd one of the 20/21st great composers
Only the very best, the most poignant, from ever since! 🎉
Wonderful performance. She’s something else!
GOOSEBUMPS!!!... ...
Thank you so much... 🎼💙
Fantastic. She is a unique talent.
Great to see Anais with full orchestration .... and harmony .... from Rachel Price (my other favorite), Hoping you get together with Eddi Reader (... yet another favorite).
Such a Brilliant and moving song and this performance was just amazing
I watched her open for Ani Difranco years ago. She nailed it with a solo acoustic set
Wow,. Just gorgeous
Just perfection
This was amazing!
Even better with video than on the radio -
contrary to this tradition, faces too beautiful for radio.
(Yet that old Gibson f-style ought to have a 'stunt double' for tunes like this one.)
Just think, she could be a Tony winner in a couple of weeks
well this comment certainly aged well
Sublime !
Great!!!
That voice and that mandolin - nice.
Meravigliosa!!!
Superb
wow! Such a great arrangement. Background vocals were so good. Hard to put something together like this in a few days. How do they do it?
This is pretty close to the arrangement on the record, it sounds to me like they followed that closely. Check out her other work, she's a genius.
Gorgeous song! It sounds ancient and mystical to me. Who writes and sings songs like this these days?
Hey! I recognize that mandolin!
Does anyone know what kind of guitar this is???
looks like a martin 00-15 to me but that is just an educated guess. could be an 0-15
absolutely delicious
Her moving is trange
Nice arangement
I'm kinda getting sick of Chris Thile noodling over the top of everything.
Lol, it’s his show
Great Song. Too bad they couldn't find someone to sit in
who can actually play mandolin.

@@cxheidorn Thank you. I rest my case. Ever heard Dave Pegg play Mando?
Can none of these up and coming artist afford a pair of new jeans fer cry eye?
I get what other people like about this, it's lack of rhythm drives me nuts.
mbsnyderc variations in tempo is not the same as not having rhythm. It’s a total concept song/album that can’t be enjoyed by clicking on a random RUclips suggestion and only listening to the first minute or two. I know this response is over kill but whatever, I’m bored.
