By far my favorite version of this song. The solo by the violinist is SO POWERFUL it goes right through me and ends in tears. It seems to unwind a snake from a straw basket
I am so glad Sarah chose to revisit this song from her brilliant 2013 "Build Me Up From Bones" album. I kinda feel it was a bit overproduced on the album. Later, I'm With Her did a stripped down version on their 2015 tour that let's Sarah's vocals and guitar shine. It also blends their gorgeous voices in the chorus to give the song more emotional subtlety. This version takes the best of both, and demonstrates that having the level of talent on stage at any LFH show, allows gifted artists like Sarah to create something very special. Stuart Duncan's masterful fiddle playing on this one elevates to perfection.
Amen brother. It was a welcome return to hear a show of largely roots (music) upon which the predecessor of this show was graced with a long and endearing legacy. (Sarah for co--host no one does it better)
Agreed I have always singled this song out as one of her best and I love the version I’m with her does and of course Stuart Duncan just makes it; so fantastic! She also sings it differently and is always growing as a musician and I love that her songs grow with her💜
I did not grow up a fan of country or bluegrass, but the music that Sarah and Chris produce supersede genres. It is just great!!! I discovered Sarah after seeing David Crosby tweet about her as one of the most talented musicians out there, and I have been enthralled ever since. This is one of her best songs.
You are goin' down a dark road And you find yourself alone And you are seein' things you never saw before But the loneliness will leave you And you find yourself alone And suddenly the world is knockin' at your door And the darkness covers you sometimes And the road is long, but it always unwinds And I find if you take your time You will make it fine The way I feel inside is not a mirror of my mind But I cannot find a way To be what I should be With a thousand miles between us I can feel you in my arms Well, it's just a feelin' deep in my memory And the darkness covers me sometimes And the road is long, but it always unwinds And I find if you take your time You will make it fine And the emptiness that fills me up Is farther from me now But it always lingers on the backroads of my mind I am falling from the darkness Up into a swirling light And I am looking up at what I had to find And the darkness covers me sometimes And the road is long, but it always unwinds And I find if you take your time You will make it fine Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
The album version is clearly different. Good, but different. A live treatment with spectacular musicians, Stuart Duncan's perfect fiddle solo, and Sarah's heartfelt vocals make this really special. Nice.
@@ravveana8396 Yes, Alasdair Fraser is excellent also. I have some of his CDs. But I like they way Stuart Duncan can take any song and make it 100% better. His work with mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris was magical.
Beautiful! Who's Collings OM1AJL is that? Is the same one Madison Cunningham used a few weeks ago, and the same one Chris Thile uses occasionally on the show? Also, what kind of pickup is installed? Thank you!
@@RadioHeartland Thank you for your response! On your house one, would mind sharing what pickup is installed? I have one myself and am on the fence between adding a pickup or not. I was simply wondering what pickup Chris Thile would have chosen for his, if his had one. I heard Chris Eldridge uses or used the LR baggs "lyric" for his martin on the show?

Beautiful🌹
The violin and base haunts me here.
Real Music with real emotions, I'm a fan. I think She will be one of America's finest singer song writers of her generation.
Absolute perfection. If only the general public understood this.
That was a masterpiece. Sarah Jarosz is an Alison Krauss caliber of musician. Everything she touches turns to gold.

That album is INCREDIBLE!
I really liked the studio version and this one as well. It's just a superb song.

Wow - can't get much better than a band that includes SJ, Chris Thile AND Stuart Duncan.
PS -always bewilders me the people who 'dislike' music of this quality . . . wish I could 'like' it more than once to counteract their negativity

I love this song, I love this girl ,and I love this band!!!
You are goin' down a dark road
And you find yourself alone
And you are seein' things you never saw before
But the loneliness will leave you
And you find yourself alone
And suddenly the world is knockin' at your door
And the darkness covers you sometimes
And the road is long, but it always unwinds
And I find if you take your time
You will make it fine
The way I feel inside is not a mirror of my mind
But I cannot find a way
To be what I should be
With a thousand miles between us
I can feel you in my arms
Well, it's just a feelin' deep in my memory
And the darkness covers me sometimes
And the road is long, but it always unwinds
And I find if you take your time
You will make it fine
And the emptiness that fills me up
Is farther from me now
But it always lingers on the backroads of my mind
I am falling from the darkness
Up into a swirling light
And I am looking up at what I had to find
And the darkness covers me sometimes
And the road is long, but it always unwinds
And I find if you take your time
You will make it fine
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

Stuart Duncan is by far my favorite violinist.
Just came across Sarah. Can’t get enough. What a beautiful voice and delivery
What a beautiful soul, speechless......
Just tuned into this artist. Looking forward to discovering more. Hauntingly beautiful.
She has 3 or 4 albums, and she's part of the super-trio I'm With Her. You will have lots to discover. She's a gem.
Yes she is.
Welcome to the club! Sarah's incredible--been great since high school!
She's one of the greatest songwriters I've ever heard.
@@delewan yes... been following sarah since she was 17... she's incredible musician.. that octave mandolin!!!
This might just be my favorite song of all eras & genres. Dark Road is easily my most played song since it came out (that album was incredibly good).
Sarah is special and Chris Thile is one of the best with the mandolin
Whatever is beyond excellent>That is what this is !!
Wow !!! What a beautiful song
Such a gorgeous song.
Wow! This is an absolutely flawless performance of a beautiful song.
Love love love this!
I heard this on my Pandora radio 📻 I like it a lot.
my daughter sounds like Sarah. One of my great loves.
An excellent song for these times, and for young adults striking out on their own.
Or old people walking down a dark road.
Both talented and always working on their craft! Thank you.
Never disappoints - thank you for sharing your gifts with us
This is haunting and beautiful...l
Fiddle player is nuts. Another great one!
So sublime ++++
Geez-Loueez that was outstanding!
Genuine natural talent
Great performance.
Sarah!!
Stuart Duncan is the best fiddle player ever.

This was actually Sarah's, but we do also have one that we bring along as a house acoustic.

Hear God burst out of his child.
I hate that the suits cancelled Live From Here. You can't find music like this anywhere else.
