I own this monitor in the tripod package and it is wonderful. Makes my NCase ITX rig feel truly portable. Downsampling to 1440p looks really good next to my native 1440p monitor. Hands down worth the money.

I travel a fair amount of work so this monitor while pricey, is exactly what I wanted. IPS, high refresh rate and USBC DP Alt mode for the 2080 Ti which nets me gsync compatibility. Perfect monitor to pair with my Ncase m1. Colors out of the box in sRGB mode was close to my color calibrated Acer XB271HU.
Thanks for the review as always.

How does it feel going from a 15 inch monitor to this one? I normally travel and buy a 27 inch in the places I end up, however, buying and selling them all the time is annoying.
I wouldn't mind this one but I want it MEGA close to my face and cant imagine how that might be possible. Ideally it'd somehow float above my keyboard and mouse so its super close

While I understand your points as to why you would not reccomend the monitor, I am actually one of those customers who perfectly fits into the niche this monitor. I am an airline pilot and have always wasnted a decent size monitor to pair with my mini itx build PC while I am on the go. This monitor fits perfectly in my flight bag the same way a larger ipad would while my itx pc fits in my carry on bag when i get to the hotel i am now always able to play similarly to my pc at home and has been a wonderful choice. i watched your video finding this monitor and i have been very happy overall with it. It was pricey but I managed to pick it up for $379 renewed on amazon (no tripod) and it looked pretty much brand new. Been using your channel for years for making smart monitor purchase decisions and I really appreciate your complete reviews and quality of the reviews thanks!

I have this monitor and want to point out that, using the USB C connector exclusively, on some laptops and desktop motherboards you may experience a slight fps loss. This doesnt occur when using the HDMI connection. I tested on a Razer Blade, a Blade Stealth, a 2018 Macbook Pro, and a ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming ITX/AC and observed the same behavior on all devices.

I have one of this on the way. I bought it to with my new msi meg trident that is also on the way. I have a really old 19' inch Compaq monitor and I'll be replacing that one with XG17. Only a difference of 2 inches-it might be a lot for some but for me I don't really care because this is a good compromise considering how slim the bezel is. I like the idea of keeping everything slim, compact, and powerful so I set my room in this fashion. Not sure how my new trident will pair up with the XG17 for home gaming because that's what I'll be using it for.

In the future could you guys add some of the power specifications and explore some power consumption testings. As a portable monitor i think some people would be interested in how the device consumes energy and the speed in which it charges.
I had a look on their site and it does say typical draw is less than 10W.

$600 got me the Omen X 27 inch... I know there's some merit to portability but, man, that price is hard to stomach when you can get a much closer to true 240hz experience, higher resolution, and no real need to mess with the overdrive levels for the same price. Had this been in the $400 price range, I think it would be a better offer.

Of course it's a niche product, but that can't be held against it. I can't imagine anyone wanting this and then trying to justify a use case for it as your conclusion suggested. Most of its customers would be those who already have a use case for it that this display would then fulfil. In that case one would be glad this things exists at all.

This together with an hp envy x360 could well become my bed system. The bit on the back with the tripod mount is a small circular bulge on the and if you use a generic tripod to mount it the tripod's anti slip material doesn't work very well due to the lack of surface area its contacting. After having used a gorillapod tripod with it for a few months the rear tripod mount is totally loose. I can press on it lightly and it goes into the monitor several millimeters and rotates around a little bit.

I have a Scar III and it's a beast, however, Asus software is god awful. I've had to switch out Armoury crate for Throttlestop and Argus monitor (all they have are 5 CPU profiles that don't do what you want, the only worthy profile is silent in terms of how it performs for the cut in power). Then I installed iCue from Corsair for all of my peripherals for the RGB control as Asus Aura Creator ALWAYS has trouble for any RGB USB device.
I can't imagine if I didn't know too much about computers, just how bad the software situation would be. It's not a big deal for me since I install all of the software I stated above on every PC I own and clients machines, but if they are selling a premium laptop (2070, 9th gen i7/ i9 and 240hz IPS panel), they should get their shit together in terms of software.

I think they've upped the ante lately though. I just bought a G14 and this thing is fantastic. Magnesium alloy body, excellent performance, excellent thermals and excellent battery life. The latter you would never expect from a gaming laptop 😁. Best gaming laptop I've ever owned and a couple were Asus that were just... ok. Thinking about picking this up for when I want some more screen real estate as the G14 is only a 14 incher 👍

I bought the monitor in 2020 and I think it's a wonderful monitor with my computer and desk,yes,XG17AHP is very or the most expensive one in many 17 inch monitors. But I think It's too worth to buy one if you will have a small desk for a long time especially you already have a HI-END pc,I only have a small desk and XG17 is my main monitor,I have an another 10 inch monitor to show more things, and I think they worth well. When you use small desk,a smaller monitor can make you fell more comfortable and good for your eyes. The market have no other high refresh rate /SGRB/TYPEC monitor but XG17,so it's my only choice. If you have a big enough desk ,27 inch monitor is really better,if not,xg17 is a nice choice.

I have one of these, granted my use case is niche, wanted a portable work setup that doubled as a gaming monitor. Is it overkill, sure, but wanted 17 inches 1080p, anything sharper makes the text too small, and most 17 inch monitors are 2K or higher with much cheaper build quality. Built in battery was a must. Added bonus, usb-c works with iPad Pro.

    Hey,
great review and ive been looking for this for a long time. thanks a lot.
As an architect - living in a flat in a large city with limited space - this monitor would check the following boxes:
    1. Its portable and storeable meaning - i can easily hide it away in a drawer if i have guests over for example
    2. the stand allows me to raise it up above my laptop screen which avoids me getting strong neck pain while sitting and working for hours.
    3. the 17 inch is actually a substantially lager than 15 inches and will allow me to work faster
To my knowledge there is no other option on the market that achieves this - and i will therefor buy it - because theres no other option. I couldnt care less about the 240hz.

I enabled charging through the display port and now I get power surge error on my PC and the external display doesn't turn on. It only shows the charging graphic. How Do I turn this off when it is controlled through the monitor interface, when I can't turn the monitor on??

Does it have a battery limiter while plugged in???
the only problem here is the battery for long term use

only problem is not the price - for me, this would be ideal to pop a work unit up anywhere, and game on it, but ive come to expect 400+nits brightness minimum and wont go down. I wish some of their non battery packed monitors were this easy to transport, so i could fit an itx build, portable 400nits gaming monitor and peripheral's in 1 overhead travel case on the aeroplane.

This is my problem too. I do not know what brightness i will be able to tolerate at minimum. But i already saw a big diff in brightness lvl and i am not really happy with the 300nits..

I would really appreciate if you tested the display, if it uses resistive or PWM dimming. It's a glaring oversight in all of your monitor reviews, that you never test or report.

I personally think this product would work well with a laptop that doesn't have a screen. Like just a keyboard and has a USB C slot where you can plug in this monitor and use it as the internal display

I think that I might be the niche, that Asus is targeting. I would like a second monitor to my notebook which I mostly use for the development work+ sometimes gaming. I do have a desktop PC at home with an ultrawide 1440p monitor where I mostly do gaming and a little bit of programming as a side project. I do not know if next gen consoles wil support ultrawide, but if not this could be a great addition to the PS5. I wish that the price would be maximum 450 Euros with a stand.

Any use case that would take advantage of the 240hz would be a case where you're probably plugged in anyway. And if you have a laptop, better sell it put those 500 towards a new one.

This is very interesting. I see high refresh rate mobile phones with a controller connected to it. Mini itx builds for people that travel alot and love to game.
    Ps5 and xbox series x.
I think This is designed for people who are on the go and want to have a quick game or 10 with the best experience possible.

This would suit my needs perfectly since my space is not too big, but the price is so high. I’m looking for a small monitor I can use as a second monitor to place right u set my wall mounts ultrawide. Anything above a 17 inch will be too big.

So if you get a display port alt mode cable your graphics card will power the monitor and send the video signal at the same time? is this correct or not? I saw multiple reviews saying that it would not charge and send the video signal at the same time.

Sounds like you’re better off with something like the benq 2540-46s models or the viewsonic elite due to their built in carrying handles.

I just bought this. There just were no other options for me. I work out of my laptop so I'm mobile a lot but I still want to game with 200+ fps. My laptop isn't great with just a 2060 mobile but it can still run things like Overwatch at 200+ so this lets me be anywhere I want and still be able to game at around 200 frames and 17.3inches vertical is much better for stock charts than using a 15.6 screen. Even if I upgrade to a laptop with a higher refresh screen, I'd prefer this since it allows me to use my Asus Falchion keyboard without having awkward spacing by placing my laptop behind my wireless keyboard and pushing the screen far back.

How is this monitor working out for you? I've had mine for about a year but I just changed a setting that enables in to charge through the display port. Now it overloads the port and won't turn on at all. Ever come across this yourself?
