I have a grandson who wanted to be a SEAL since about age eight. He did everything he could to prepare himself until he graduated High School and enlisted. He washed out after BUDS due to injury. As he recovered he filled his time becoming a Corpman. His recovery prevented a return to the program. He is happy with his present Rateing as he went into the Navy knowing not all make it, but there are other rewarding things to do.
Signed a 26 year, two war Vet.

    Lessons:
1: Be a fly on the wall. Detach from emotions and use your brain to think about the tactical situation.
2: Be humble when you are in charge as ruling with an iron fists encourages others to rebel rather then work as a team.
3:Trust your leader. They are in that position for a reason. as long as they have good intentions and are humble themselves.

I got to communicate with Navy Seals ,and also some SAS guys, along other colorful individuals in the Middle East some years ago.
One guy I was impressed with greatly, and never forgot his admonitions was a Navy Seal instructor who said about the job of killing an adversary were his words.
" Don't get to a point in this business where you love killing or as a counter point, really hate killing an adversary".
"It's a job, Don't love it or hate".
    "Stay neutral emotionally".
It hit me that this is a great philosophy for life in general.
We will see if it is applicable.

Navy vet here. I was never in the teams. I was a Gunner's Mate. I rode the bench. But at the core of who I was, I was a machine gunner. It's a simple life behind a belt fed. Your world is small. Very small. But if you can pause your bursts, you can see the entirety of the universe. Once you know what you are seeing, you can show the rest of you division. Once an entire SEAL platoon or Weapons Department on a surface vessel are in tune the world can be changed. In it's simplicity the Navy is the same. Singular people, subjected to a singular goal becoming a singular group. This is how we got here. This is how we will stay here. Unconquerable. Singular. United. One as a part of an indomitable whole. The Teams are a standard that enriches the whole. And deep blue water sets a standard all it's own. Any nation with a Navy worth a shit will never be conquered. God bless the USN, The Teams, Surface, Subs, and everyone in between.

So i want to become a seal one day (i still need 5 whole years till i become an adult) and you might say 'bro you have 5 years chill" but i want to prepare as much as i can (for physical of course) going to the gym and doing exersices. I see some improvement over time and i hope i will accomplish my goal. Respect to all the military guys in the world that are doing the best for their country

What I love is that, for lack of better words, I will call "Jocko's Philosophy", is that it can be applied to every aspect of anyone's life. You don't have to be a hardcore, combat seasoned warrior. Anyone in any walk of life can learn from his message.

I know what he means. I don't have to fight - for that I have grandparents who are 93 years old, my grandpa can no longer walk, I have to carry him; my grandma has dementia. I cream her legs and sing her to sleep. They have a garden of 2000sqm. I take care of that too. My inner core has long been exposed - I just don't accept it. Do not give up. Just keep going. Just keep going. I've done a lot of bad things but this feels real for the first time. And it's a struggle. Every second. People, keep fighting.
