Many times when you're a little bit older you are more successful than you might have been as a younger man. Give it a shot, the worst you can hear is 'No', and you WILL live through that. I agree. People often just the'easy life', without any real challenges to excel in something beyond their natural comfort zone.
I kinda disagree. I think we seek peace for our inner self first. Society hates that because everyone is anxious. Seeking inner peace first, makes one strange to others. That can cause discomfort, but you're right in that respect. Discomfort drives you to be a better you. It's like an itch that must be scratched. We just have to learn to scratch our own itches and not try to guess where other people's itches are so we can scratch them, because we are all different. We are all unique.
Failure will either motivate or drive one deeper into themselves. Life is a mind game...being aware of that and moving on through mistakes, and failures is the difference between living and giving up on life.

As an American weapons Tech , I was stationed with the British royal Air Force and lived in England 3 years. During my time there I met many World War II soldiers and air men their families, and even some SAS members. Talking with these men and they're training styles and requirements, let me understand how professional they really were, and so dedicated. England has a number one fighting force in these men, and the other branches. Always miss it there. God bless them all, and their country.

American Special forces aren't the best in the world....SAS can keep up with them or the gurkas or the foreign legion in france....don't talk bullshit like the USA are the best over all other ones....the world doesn't consist just of USA, there are many good special forces out there that can keep up with the USA

I'm from Boston but my grandfather is from England two of his brothers fought for the British during the war. Great men indeed I miss them all.
It's refreshing to hear someone say he didn't like school he wasn't abused life was ok with life he just wanted to be a special forces it was in him.

I heard a story of a wounded navy seal, he would draw a line with his knife in the dirt and crawl to it, he did that for from memory seven miles, until he got to safety, fucking epic. He was in such bad shape it was a mental thing, if i can get across that line I am moving, i am alive. Made into a movie, Lone Survivor.

I had also begun to make a connection with British astronomers to take them into the desert but to no avail, as the security of the nomads has been compromised. Many of my friends are either displaced or sadly dead. On top of this French peacekeepers strafed a wedding mistaking them for mercenaries. I was literally the worst and the weakest child in sports at school and really wanted to prove myself best in every fields starting from sports to studies.
Than I finally topped in class 9th and after class 11 I prepared and Joined the 9 Para Special Forces as an Officer after graduation from NDA.

I grew up on the streets on my own from age 10 and this mindset is exactly what got me through. I tried joining military as a teenager done 2 years then got stabbed in the hand in a street fight, was goin for scout sniper.. was a kickboxer and builder. Turned addict 21 years. Now I’m back on my feet and the attitude I can and one foot forward got me here. Anyone can. But hats off to you bloke yesterday is history, tomorrows a miserly but todays a gift , that’s why it’s called the present. Our mistakes can make or break us and our lessons learnt are our greatest achievements

When he said listen to yourself and not others. That resonated with me as someone who's always been steered into what others believe to be success. I have gone through several promotions to become a successful manager for a large facilities management company but never once felt happy in my work always thinking the next promotion will change somehow or the money will make it worth my while. I have applied to the army at 26 to chase what i consider to be a successful meaningful life. I listened to this on the treadmill running my 4k and reminds me of where I want to be and the life I want for myself. I will be listening to this again when I need focus on my end goal.

I’m the same, was the chunky kid, hated football, rugby and cricket but I was a very good swimmer, not fast, but could do distance, still can, same with cycling and walking, can’t run to save my life, I’m a plodder, relentless but I plod on, walked 26 miles over the last three days, trying to do a 15 minute mile, always just under by a minute, but I’ll keep trying, was always looked on as the odd one as I liked my outdoor pursuits, was always up a mountain or swimming or scuba diving, yet walking and cycling are the new norm now, 63 next month, still plodding on and collecting miles

Jay, the words and video are spot on, as an ex “mob” soldier served 67 to 80 the journey in life can make you or destroy you, the forces made me like many others, they are true family. Mind set is key in life, I am moving towards 69 and will never give in or give up on any challenge failure is not an option!! I stand by those who have served our country 100%..

Never settle for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living. I did the usual teenage mistakes, and when my dad became terminally ill, i decided to join the army. That was almost 20 years ago, and i have seen the same things as you buddy, have experienced things i never thought i would experience. I raise my hand to you brother, and walk the same path
I come from a town not far from jay. I was board with everything everyone is expected to get a job stay in it work all wk get pissed at the weekend. I always wanted more out off life, I fell in to the taking drugs scene work all wk. To get smashed at the wkend. Thankfully I got board off that. It’s only now at the age 43 I’m at uni training to be a therapist. Loving life, just wish I would off done it when I was young. It’s pushing my self as iv got dyslexia hence why I found learning hard and boring as I wasn’t getting it. It’s never to late turn the mistakes in to a positive.

I’ve been keeping fit and pushing myself since I was 15. I never joined the marines much to the dismay of my dad who had been a marine for 15 years. I didn’t like discipline and I went into farming. Worked in all weathers all year round and now at 56 my body is reminding me that I may of over done it. I do still keep fit because in my mind I can still do it but my body tells me different, it is life I am afraid.

Get your body strong to get your mind strong. I have started going to the gym. I cannot remain weak following chemo/rad. For several years I've allowed that to hold me down. I have to get stronger in order to be stronger.

When it comes to performance under pressure, adequate physical and mental prep is key. This breeds confidence. The next step is your ability to focus in the moment on the current task or objective. The last thing is to maintain control of your emotions and do your best to have the proper perspective on the moment. Challenge should be viewed with excitement and opportunity, not fear and burden. I’m not a psychologist or a counselor just a special operations veteran who is passionate about human performance and potential.

Drains and radiators is the best explanation I think I have ever heard about how different people affect your life. I joined the Navy when I was 17 years old and after getting to Boot Camp it didn't take long for me to think just what the hell was I thinking. I got through it and will say it changed me forever and am thankful for it as it made grow up very quickly. I got to my ship and it took awhile I guess because I was so young to be accepted but in time I did become part of the crew. I think it is really about shared experiences is how we become close to others and makes us part of the bigger picture. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything now because those times were the best and the places we went I would have never experienced otherwise.

Wonderful video. It has really helped me to get back in the race. I am 61 and now working on my fitness. I used to run and play sports but got in to my own pitty party. Slowly I am getting fitter walking and doing Qigong and it's helping me think positive. I have been living in fear and I lost my zest but now listening to this has given me a kick start. Thank you. A true grounded individual. We all have an opportunity to succeed. But we must fail to succeed or we have never tried! Love this ✊🌈
This is all fine and good... He is both inspirational and motivating, but he is healthy and strong and able- bodied. As a veteran, he must realize that all of that can be lost in an instant- paralysis, tbi etc. Many suffering from severe disabilities are abandoned by family and friends, struggle for years to receive benefits, can no longer work, and languish and are exploted in shelters or on the streets. Here in the U.S. many veterans deal with the effects of toxins that they have been exposed to- that cause cancers, organ failure etc. This is when true strength comes in- when someone has lost everything- their health, family, the ability to do what everyone takes for granted- and yet still, they retain their sanity and integrity.

It’s a shame we don’t value exercise and strength in society. Sacrificing your health for a few grades, numbers on a paper, never really resonated well with me either
Its all perception. Its whether or not you are capable of such a feat. Not whether you believed it to be an impossibility. You set your own standards and obstacles. Of which, you can overcome. We are capable, at times we just don't know it.

Radiators and drains! My 4 year old was taught at daycare about the "bucket". Everyone has a bucket but you can't touch your bucket. You can however either fill or drain other peoples bucket. That's stuck with me. So be a radiator, fill up someone's bucket. Don't drain them.

As I was listening to this video I was texting my daughter and we’re discussing stress. We are a hard working people and work very long hours behind desks, stressed out wishing we were someplace else and then we pick up bad food habits and start to get fatter and more stress it’s a cycle ... people who do manual labor which is what exercise is, releases that stress...but it’s not the same as running on an asphalt road, working out in a gym opposed to walking/running on a beach or digging in something or moving a stack of bricks from one corner to another corner. The body doesn’t know the difference between a weight machine and lifting a log it stresses the adrenals because a stressor is a stressor to the body but to the mind lifting a log, building a cabin, running the beach, walking through a beautiful neighborhood, hiking through the woods in the mountains...a different stressor. When I go to the gym I just go through the motions of using machines, lifting the weights but when I go to the beach my mind wanders and being surrounded with such beauty my mind is blank ... and time stands still. .. I can be surrounded by hundreds of beach goers and be all lone on the shore as I soak up and meditate on Gods creation. Life is short...we are nothing but a single breath in the scope of time,

i've distanced myself from that situation and my life is now much better and more stable. i'm finishing projects etc.

You and comments I read sound like my dad, who hated school and went straight into the US Air Force, had to sneak because he was oldest and his dad wanted him to do fam business with him. So I was born on an air base, dad was still in when I aged out as a dependant. I don't still don't understand civilians or the civilian life. I wanted to go in the Air Force to be a pilot too. My mom wouldn't and my grandmother threw fits till I didn't go in. I became an RN. We were overseas close to war a lot. I have so many heros in my life who that is eactly what they were born to be. Thank you for your service, sir.

Appreciate the sharing. Many men may be starting to understand they don’t have to always answer those questions that are not really asked of us but part of our programming as young kids to fit in that box. Everyday is insight into what you will know at 90 and although we should figure it out to some point we’re constantly on that journey of experiencing life through feeling and failure and pain and resilience. Never feel sorry for yourself. Since young boys we’ve been asked stupid cute questions like “what’s your favorite color?” “What do you want to be when you grow up? A doctor a lawyer an engineer?” At an older age I realized my need to feel life through my hands and my body and what I saw in moments instead of completely through my thoughts. My favorite color is the green of an overhead wave standing between me and the horizon as the sun sets through it. It’s a feeling you experience not a color. It’s also beautiful because it often is followed by chaos and white foam and then complete darkness only a couple meters under the surface. We’re asked to chose a crayon out of a box at 6 years old and we feel like there is something wrong with us because we don’t have an answer yet. But if we really knew then we’d answer that question a lot different. Imagine a 6 year old saying “That’s just a box of crayons. My favorite color is out there somewhere and I want to go feel it and find it. Another favorite color for example is the red rose of a woman’s chest and face when you’ve experienced love and trust and are in the intimate moment before climax. There is so much you’ve done before that moment and gone through to get there. It’s not experienced with a cheap whore and like the wave is a short moment in time where you get the answer to that stupid question you were asked at 6. It’s reassuring that it was ok not to have the answer. And same with all those questions about want you wanted to be when you grew up. Imagine a child saying “I want to feel the struggle. I want to test what this body was made for. I might become a doctor or a lawyer or engineer through that process but that’s not what I want to become.”
I relate to this dude so much, everything I was doing just felt so not me. Joined the Air Force at 26. Working on cross training into special operations. It just feels right, to me at least
If it feels right - go at it. I went to training centres 2-3 hours every f..king day for two years before going. No regrets.
