- Join us for another installment of our farmhouse renovation journey as Clare and Robin press forward with the kitchen DIY build, determined to overcome obstacles and see their vision come to life. With each nail hammered and each board secured, they inch closer to transforming their kitchen into a functional and beautiful space for their family.
But outside, in the garden, a new challenge awaits. Clare and Robin take on the task of installing an irrigation system to ensure their garden flourishes with lush greenery and vibrant blooms. However, their excitement is dampened when they return home to discover the devestation of the tree removal, facing the stark reality of the empty landscape left behind.
Despite the setbacks, Clare and Robin remain resilient, finding solace in the progress they've made and the potential for new growth. Join us as we navigate the highs and lows of homestead life, finding strength in each other and in the shared dream of building a home filled with love and laughter.

Dont fret about comments on how you are going about the build , you know your plan and have put your heart and soul into it , and we see that every week , carry on we are all rooting for yous
Thanks Patrick, sometimes it's hard not to take comments to heart , but yes, we are trying our best and giving our all 😊
I personally think you are both doing an amazing job, learning as you go, who doesn't wing it sometimes? Negativity really pixxes me off from "experts" . I love your banter too 😊❤🇬🇧
Ahh thanks Sharon, we will give everything a go. I think we have both learnt such a lot through this process over the last year, it amazes me.
Love drone shots. The garden is really taking shape.I can't imagine the clean up of the trees. We lopped a few branches from an oak tree and an apple tree today and OMG there was a mountain of debris. You are both super.
Oh wow! Thanks Anne. Sorry for the delay, I just realised that we had quite a few comments in "held in review"
I agree with other comments don't get disheartened about those negative comments your doing a fab job and it's really coming along now, you are doing the right thing with getting the kitchen and children's bedrooms done as they are the most important once all the plasterboard is done it will be quicker, and the garden will give you plenty of food you both work hard and it will be so worth it. ❤
Thanks Deborah, it is hard work but terribly rewarding as we go on, which spurs us to continue 😊
This was another great video filled with loads from a polly tunnel, to plastering, irrigation and felled trees to deal with. Given we see just a small part of your week no one has a right to criticise anything you do. Constructive criticism is often good value, criticism for criticism sake is nothing but destructive. Forgotten to say across the last videos that the drone shots are just gorgeous. Thanks, Pauline, Australia
Thanks Pauline, the weeks are pretty action packed now alright! Thank you for your encouragement ❤️
Yay, 🎉I got the reference this time…inspector gadget! I don’t normally get them 😂
Wow, that’s some amount of firewood you have there, but what a view you have across there now! So open and light.
It’s your house and your project so you do as you please with what order you do your house in. Don’t worry about what others think is the ‘right’ way to do things, it’s all up to you. The polytunnel is looking good, I like the string idea for the tomatoes 🍅 it’s like a little sanctuary in there away from the madness of renovations. ❤
Well done guys! Rob and his references🙄 Delighted with the light and view, just lots of cleaning up to do on top of building and planting 🙈
@WestCorkWander yeah that is the downside isn't it? The clearing always take sooo much longer too...🤬
You can shred the branches into mulch. Good for the garden.
Yip having a good go at the shredding, lots there to go
to get some of the hedgy feeling and some of the wind break back, without getting in the way of the electrisity line, i would plant berrybushes between the stumps (and leave the stumps, as they deteriorate they will provide nutriance to the surrounding area) :) take your time, you'll get better results not stressing to the finish line and evaluating along the way :)
Fruit bushes between the stumps is a great idea, I will look into this, thanks for the comment 🙂
You’ve both been so busy. Thanks for the long video. You’re nearly to 5k subs. Early congrats. I’ll be so proud to say I’ve been here since the start ✌️💚💜🩵🩷
Trish you are our OG 🤣. Thank you for your support 😍
It’s so lovely to see all the work getting done! Ye are doing a fab job
Thanks Aisling, great watching your experiences also 😊
The view and light has really opened up after all those trees were removed , looks fabulous, you’ll have a ton of free fire wood once you chop it all up , happy days ! I’d hire a chipper and make a supply of wood chips from the smaller branches that you don’t use for the dead hedges . Everything inside the house is coming along nicely now well done 😊
Thanks April, yes plenty of firewood and I am slowly chipping and mulching the branches, it's just getting the time to go out and do it!
@@WestCorkWander true , must be hard trying to find time for extra jobs when you are rebuilding a house ! Ye will get there 😊
❤
Thanks for watching 😊
Your projects are so interesting to me. I am patiently awaiting any next steps. Love the poly tunnel , ibc water tank etc. I have a polycarbonate greenhouse and I am trying to figure out how to gutter it. Maybe what you do will give me ideas. We had to take down trees threatening our house. It was traumatic but so needed. I appreciate it every day. You go at your own pace. I am not critical at all.
I have soaker hoses and I just lay on top of the soil. You don’t have to bury them unless you have a water saving issue. I use the pegs to secure the hose.
Thanks Rebecca. Yes mine is a soaker hose but I think that my water pressure is not good enough to send it through to the end. So I will need to improve the pressure 🙂
It’s to bad you lost all those trees but like you guys said you have more growing so that’s ok. Keep the videos coming your doing awesome ☘️☘️☘️
Thank you for your continued support. You give us the encouragement to keep going ❤️
@@WestCorkWander your more than welcome just wish I was there sometimes to give you guys a helping hand.
Entertaining as always 😊
Glad you enjoyed 😊
Inspector Gadget 😅
Well done 👍 Thanks for commenting 😊
Go go gadget go pro! 🤔😂 That was a LOT of trees they cut down!! 😱 Firewood for days though. As far as your process of your construction of your house, don’t listen to us critics on the internet, you’re doing grand. Love you guys! 😂💚
You got it, well done! Thank you so much for your support, you keep us going ❤️
Great job with the trees down and the esb pole put up. Polytunnel looking goid
Thanks 👍
Load ‘em up Claire 😂… or as we say in Texas “Don’t worry about the mule, just load the wagon” 🤪❣️
Love it! Thanks Brenda 😊
Just back from holiday, jetlagged, but STILL needing to see how yis are getting on lol! Great video with loads going on.
Dont cut the yelllow trackies. That would be akin to Samson cutting his hair - You might lose your strength lol!
Welcome back! That comment made Robs day! Yellow is his favourite color and he is leaning towards shorts.... The lose of strength is worrying tho :)
I put in two money makers this summer in New Zealand had a fantastic crop giving them away to friends , have lots in freezer for soup over winter
Great, thank you for your comment. My daughter lives in tomatoes and as a family we eat a lot of them, so 🤞
You've had a sinus problem for a while now, and I think I know what the problem might be.
As someone who has had to deal with severe mold toxicity from exposure 13 years ago ( it doesn't just go away when you've been poisoned ) , chronic sinusitis is one of the many issues. You have been working around mold since you bought the farm. It's not something to take lightly, and sinus issues can affect your eyes, puffiness, and even eye buldge with pain. It can even cause tooth damage as your sinus cavity sits on top of the tooth. You can even lose your tooth due to damaging the root with infection. It can be extremely painful.
Please take the mold seriously.
It can affect your health for years to come or even the rest of your life.
Hope you feel better soon.
Thank you so much for all of your advice. Robs tooth has been an on going issue over a few years and I think the sinus issues started from this too. Now you could well be right about the mould, as we have experienced alot of mould through drying out the house. Thank you for commenting 😊
I just come across your channel i love it what a wonderful thing you are build for you family ❤
Thank you so much! 😊
Sunny season might start soon
🤞thanks for watching 😊
Along the Rock wall in ur kitchen u could build a box around it and put whatever flooring u use on it just a though.. I've noticed in Chateaus and old homes when it comes to pipes and wiring they build a box around it so I think u could do that at the bottom of your wall next to the floor 😊
Thanks for the tips. I would love to put a piece of wood from one or trees there as a seat somehow, some many ideas🤯
I live in Alaska. we have a ton of slugs. What worked for us is a piece of copper across the opening where they get in at the door? Is where we put ours? we had no slugs last year ... 😊
Im so over slugs.... hate em!
Well , you won't be short of firewood for a year or two
Firewood and we will try to create things for the house from it also 😊
All that lumber? It needs to dry out. Trim the branches. Haul the trunks somehere where they have air circulating and shelter. Try need a year or two to dry out so no hurry, cut them at your leisure. Lucky you..
Yes we plan to do just that. Of course this has to be done gradually though putting the house build first 😊
Can I ask you a question, why do you put cardboard down? I live in the US and I've never heard of putting down cardboard when gardening. Here we just use a roto tiller, get the earth nice and tilled, then till in compost. Then just put in your plants.
I am following a no dig method. My mentor for this is Charles Dowding, an English gardener - www.charlesdowding.co.uk/resources/beginners-guide
Here cardboard is used to suppress the weeds prior to planting. No dig then is as it refers to a method of gardening without digging.
Thanks for commenting 🙂
So many trees down! What a waste!😢
We try not to think of it as waste. We will try to use as much as we can within the house build. We still have all of our inside window sills and surrounds to make and Rob is hoping to get a table out of one. Anything left will be used as fuel for our little stove. We feel positive having already planted 500 + native trees on our land. Laylandii are not native to Ireland and in most cases this inevitably happens when they get to big.
Smelly pole 🤣
Very 🤣 Thanks for watching 😊
I hope you hire a professional to do the taping and mudding on your plasterboard. It makes such a difference with the finished product. All mistakes and unevenness become so much more obvious once it’s painted.
We are the professionals 🤣 I know what your saying but we are going to give everything a go and take it from there 🙂
@@WestCorkWander it’s such a filthy, dusty, thing to do, and if too much mud is applied at a time there’s so much sanding involved. Good luck to you and that is sincerely wished not sarcastically. I hate working with the stuff and cleaning up afterwards.
Hiya fella I see most jobs no safety glasses on you need to be careful about your eyes..
Thank you for commenting. Yes we must improve on this 😊
Shouldnt be screwing in the skinny bits - not enough meat
Thank you for your comment. Learning as we go along 🙄😊
