"now, the fun part, background!" me: sobbing in the distance. I have such a difficult time with perspective and backgroud but gosh, you're amazing at it!!
I feel ya, it was hard for me before too, start with smaller backgrounds, draw just some random objects, like cafe table with chairs, or front window of cake store.. or a bush with flowers, and expand from there slowly, adding more and more stuff. I also like to take interior design books from library, pick a pretty picture of a room and copy it in my sketchbook my own way for practice!
Alisa draws that's such a great idea for practicing backgrounds! (Runs to the library...) Thanks, Alisa!
Can we just talk about how BEAUTIFUL AND DETAILED is this piece of art? Like, for real this gave me chills, all the colors, the symmetry, the lights, the shadows, the characters, even the little mouse! For god´s sake, this was so peaceful and gorgeous. I enjoyed every second of it.
Thank you for telling about the time, your work takes. The internet shows not only everything looks perfect, it looks like it's always easy and fast. When I work ages on my little graphs, I feel like a garden snail. It gives me a kind of a break, when elegant artists like you, tell me the realisty.
Wow this is gorgeous! No one draws plants like you do! 😻 I liked seeing your whole process.
I can't be the only person who 1. Wished you made your line art into coloring books and 2. Slows the video down because it's just that awesome and wonderfully soothing to watch.
I'm so amazed by your watercolor skills 😍
same! It turned out gorgeous 😍
I'm still pretty new to your channel, but I wanted to tell you how much of an inspiration your channel is for me. I've been going through a crazy artist block lately, and watching your videos has really given me a spark of creativity again. Suddenly I actually want to draw and paint again, so thank you for that.
You're a wonderful artist and I greatly admire your work.
Thank you!
aww, thank you so much! I'll try my best to continue inspiring you!
my face literally lit up when I saw you upload! love you
Some tips: Use a hair dryer on a warm setting and blow dry the tape before taking it off, nothing should rip the paper then :) And if your paper gets wavy, take the finished piece, put a dish towel over it and iron it on a very high setting! That's the way I get my watercolor pieces to be more flat~
Such a pretty painting, I love watching you draw plants ovo
Owh My Gosh! This is FABULOUS!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
From the conception of the idea to the finishing touches, I'm blown away. Your technique is impeccable!
I LOVE all your photo reference! I loved seeing the behind the scenes of planning out your illustrations ^_^ This was really helpful and the artwork is gorgeous! Will this be available as a print?
Hey Alisa! Super cute painting!
In regards to the tape ripping your paper, try using a hair dryer when removing the tape, the heat loosens the adhesive and can help with the tearing. Also, If you can stand to use the decorative washi tape, it has mush less adhesive, just make sure to seal the corners really well with your fingers/nails.
Anyway, thank you for sharing your art and tips/process! I really admire your creative vision and patience!
This reminded me so much of when I used to draw as a kid... I always made huge drawing with lots of little details... Haven't done it in almost a decade and watching you has really made me want to get back into it! Thank you!
Thankyou this was very helpful! I'm a very impatient artist but now I've started an art channel, I've been wanting to do bigger pieces and I don't know about everyone else, but being told to be patient actually helps with being patient. Such a beautiful piece aswell!
i think my favorite part of the drawing is the yellow door in the background, its so vibrant and pretty!
I enjoyed seeing the behind the scene thought process from start to finish. This is a beautiful piece of work!
my jaw was on the floor the entire time.. so beautiful and such purposeful marks, in love with this
Excellent, amazing. Thanks for sharing. Love to see all the different shades you use to create such a variety of 'greens' in your plants.
Your art inspires me to pull my watercolors out again - most of the time I just paint with acrylics!
youre my favorite artist on yt im obsessed w your art
Ahh, I love the soft, sunny look this painted has. The watercolor is beautiful, and you made the plants and the sun shining through the roof look super pretty. Amazing work, I'll definitely be watching more of your videos.
How did your love for succulents start? And i agree, THEY'RE ADORABLE!
yaaas i get so excited when you release a new video. it makes me feel so relaxed and happy
love how her eyebrows matched mochi the shibainu. this is amazingly soothing to watch and makes me want to create! thanks!
I really love that you put in a wash of purple for the base layer. I've never tried that before, but it really unifies the picture.
ohmygoood I love how detailed it was
every time i watch this video it always makes me think of spring or summer days that i would paint and it's so relaxing and nostalgic
Its so great to see you using your own original references! Fabulous compositions and ideas.
This IS amazing and wonderful.... I always love watercolor but I've never once succeeded in creating one. Your vdo is very easy to follow, it points out the feeling of each step. After watching this, I think I wanna try it again.... Thank you Alisa!
Your videos are so crazy inspiring to me! So many details, and your videos are so helpful ❤️
Monique Renee both of your art is crazy inspiring to me
That pink cactus and the mouse gave me life
Beautiful! I love all the succulent details, and you're prickly pear cactus!
I'm so glad I found your channel! I am just starting to do watercolour works and I've learned a lot watching just 2 of your videos! you are awesome! thank you for the straight forward, easy to understand tips and insights! Your work is very inspiring! I love how you mention the materials you used as I wanted to try some of them for myself. Keep up the good work! You are amazing!
this is such a different style than what I normally draw in, and it is so fun to watch your process. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I use a blow dryer to make the tape peel nicer. Rarely any paper rips that way! :) Beautiful piece--I love it!
loved it... i basically liked the idea of combining things u see in real lif[green house] with ones u created [ur characters] ...never done that...but m gonna try it now... thanks...i think we learn everyday new things. n u r really a great artist... loved ur work.
The tape can be easily removed after heating it with a hair dryer for a few seconds.
Your work is incredibly detailed and always very beautiful. I love the pages of your sketchbook and always finished illustrations: D
Is there anything more mesmerizing than watercolor? It's like you can just stare at it all day and lose track of time
You are such a pro on background-design, big inspiration!
Watched and rewatched. I love your process and the patience that you have with your artwork!
the detail and precision of this drawing is incredible! I love this!
That's such a good idea to think of the initial washes as similar to Instagram filters. :D
That artwork is absolutely beautiful. Great work!
Seeing how good you are makes me want to cry
Congrats Julie! The depth in your paintings is so beautiful. Lovely job!
I dont know why but I love when she says "blob"
This drawing is beautiful. You are so gifted, I love your style 😻 thank you for sharing your art 💖
Oh my gosh!!! Your art is so gorgeous!
it's really nice! you're the best watercolor artist i know!
So beautiful! Just magic!
Wonderfull drawing Love how soft and beautifll your watercolor drawings are
I want a print of this so bad! Gorgeous.
If you use a hairdryer and slowly peel off the tape while heating the tape with a hairdryer on high heat, it softens the adhesive and helps so that the paper doesn’t rip. I had the same problem with ripping paper, but this changed my life!
You're amazing at water colour and colour choices!
I have just one word : Beautiful !
I love this secret giveaway thing. This is where you'll know who your true fans are, imo. Because people won't be just watching a video just because of a giveaway.
Also, this video is so helpful, Alisa! I take a lot of pictures of plants and beautiful places and never thought that I can actually use them as backgrounds and references??
I thought its just more fair to do it just for people who really pay attention and care about my videos, than to some random viewers who leave after fist 15 sec :D
I'm glad to give you some ideas in using reference! To be honest, since I started taking my own pictures for reference, I go to parks, gardens and plant nurseries more and more. Getting out of the house can be really inspiring!
Yes! Exactly! I love how you didn't put "GIVEAWAY" on the title. That was really sneaky but clever all the same.
And yes again. You are totally right. Going out of the house can give many benefits than just finding inspiration. Also taking your own photos for reference seems a lot better than searching for them on the internet because you could get the same background drawn on other artworks.
You're watercolor paintings are always so pretty!! Thank you for sharing these tips too!
love, love, love your work so much. your style reminds me of picture books from when I was little. I always loved art and would take ages to stare at each image before I turned the page.
I love your style of art and this video was very informative to me this morning. Thanks your on my list of fav's.
love your drawing videos keep it up!
about the paper ripping when removing the tape, i learned this trick from other youtube channels and tried it for myself and it has not failed me yet.
use hair dryer (hot settings) or a heat tool on where the tape is and only then remove it from the paper. it will make the glue weaker and you will be able to remove it without the paper ripping!
(i also find that the longer the tape\masking fluid is on the paper the more likely it is to tear it)
side note for anyone trying things like this: try it on a scrap piece of paper\small watercolor doodle just so you won't ruin a big piece just i case it go's wrong.
Thank you so so much! I'm watching and learning .. You are the best teacher for me! Have a nice day! 🌺
Olga from Sant-Petersburg Russia
I'd love a video on composition! love how you use watercolors
Hi Alisa, I've been binge watching your drawing videos because your voice sounds so calming to me, and your art is amazingly cute! Also, I was surprised to learn you are a mom. I used to draw a lot of fanarts back in the day, but since my daughter was born I kinda... lost the motivation to do it? Didn't seem like a thing a mom would do, which is of course a stupid thought. You're giving me the will to draw again, so I thank you deeply for sharing your art videos with us! Subscribed and liked :D
I love how you do shading and how you play with it. I'd love to know how you shade, cause it's so gorgeous. I'm obsessed with your videos and art. 💕💕💕💕
ps: this is the first time I find someone with my same exact name. :o
oh God, the detail!! love it!!
I had to rewatch this video, I love it so much! I hope you will do more like it in the future! Same format, new picture, it would be great!
Amazing piece. Incredible detail, and gotta love shiba dogs. I'm so lucky to live in Japan and see someone walking a shiba dog on most days :)
this is *unbelievably* beautiful!
Love this painting, the colors are very pretty!
Your artwork is incredibly beautiful love your style
I really like seeing your process! Thank you for giving us a glimpse of your reference images as well! I love how the finished piece turned out and I'm very inspired to expand my figure drawing to include a sense of place. Also, loved the analogy of an Instagram filter!
I don't know if someone else posted this but for my watercolors I use the blue painter's tape that you can get from stores that sell house paint, and I find that it doesn't rip my paper as much or as bad as masking tape. Also beautiful painting, loved it.
Lol “Red Bull and patience” well I am in love❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💕
Your commentary is so delightful and cute. I love this video!
this is so satisfying 😍 amd the colors! so warm and cozy feeling
all it takes is hard work and preparation...
THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING
i AM AMAZED WITH YOUR ART!
this is actually so gorgeous omg
This is soo beautiful, and so much work :) Ha ha, I did burnt my art and regreted some of my decisions, I'm sad I haven't found your chanel then. This is such beauty and such an inspiration!
Have you tried blowing the masking tape with hairdryer when taking it off the paper and board? For me it works pretty well. Or if I don't have a hairdryer I blow to the sticky side myself. Lol!
oh, I'll try to do it next time, thanks.
This was so helpful for me right now, since I'm trying to plan out a bigger painting :) I know you said that you didn't thumbnail any colors for this one, but I would love to hear/see you go more into the color planning process in another video (or if you can point me to a previous video you've done on the subject- I am somewhat new to your channel). This turned out so beautiful and made me excited to paint :)
You're always such an inspiration. 💚
Now I'll go hide in a corner, You are so good I want to cry.
I have a lot of problems with tape ripping my paper too! But I've found if I hear it up with a blow dryer first it comes off much better!!!
utterly stunning.
This is so beautiful and so helpful! Thank you!
