I have the same 12 in a similar sized box and it absolutely gets down!!! Great job as always. Love this channel! Any chance of a video on the new DSP from NVX? I'd like to see what you think.
I want to do a stick fab project for a rear center console under seat subwoofer in a 20018 f250, what are some do’s and don’t when building these types of enclosures…
I have yet to try stack fab -- it uses a ton of material so they can be expensive to build plus it take a lot of time. Get a new router bit and get a good one (amzn.to/46dOlEj).
I had similar problems the first time I tried wrapping my trim pieces. I used to spray the trim with white bed liner and spray the panels with black. I got board with that, and I tried wrapping the trim with vinyl. I screwed it up the first time, so I decided to wrap the panels and spray the trim, and that was much easier, and I think it looks better also. It's also more durable because the trim takes more abuse than panels
Heating the vinyl with a heat gun helps it to stretch. Use a low setting setting and keep the gun moving. You don't want to melt the vinyl. Use a damp rag to help cool the vinyl.
Love this idea!! Allows you to have a more narrow (less wide) box, while using some extra depth to have a longer port! Never thought building a box this way, but maybe I will give that a shot on my next build! Have some Skar EVL 6.5s lying around from a previous build I want to re-use with my old Rockford Fosgate r500x1d and have been looking for some different box ideas. Great video as always!
Nice to see you finally used that sub lol i told you NVX vcw top end for their brand is great balance of SQ and SPL, one reviewer said it's the poor mans JL but i think it's better but that's just me. Honestly wish i could build boxes like you keep up the good work, sadly i bought a prefab single 8" 41 hz box for my NVX vcw 8" sub it replaced x2 Skar audio 12s because i needed the trunk space back and this little 8" is not disappointing me.
Ive been running a pair of the same V2 subs for some time and love them! Picked them up on a closeout for cheap when the V3 was coming out and i couldn’t be happier! They sound great tonally and can still hit hard and low. Been powering them with an Audio Legion 1600 rms korean amp at 1 ohm and the subs dont even get warm. Best subs I’ve had so far!
I like the concept and design. Looks sturdy as hell. I was wondering where you picked up the plastic router guide adjustable template. I haven’t seen one of those available in these parts. I must have one of those in my shop.
I like it. Must be a super solid box. I also prefer a bit lower tuning frequency in a ported box. It doesn't have to be all about spl. Its how it actually sounds if you ask me and seems that you nailed it. If you're happy with it then yeah it was worth it.
Great video. I'm really tempted to try one of these out. My car peaks at 52 regardless of what setup I'm running, so I have been struggling to find something that doesn't roll off too hard on either end
That port style strengthen the box for sure and i guess once the net vol, port area, tuning and it sounding good i think it's worth it. I like using labyrinth style port because of how it braces the box and it gives the sub better space behind it to compress the air inside the box.
I just tried a 4th order in my hatchback. The bandwidth is better but the port is right up against my hatch and choking the port. Back to my trusty aeroport 😁
@DIY Audio Guy the entire experience was fun and interesting. Before I switch it back out I'll slide the enclosure farther back and take a listen first. The aeroport has solid sound and is extremely efficient.
@@DIYAudioGuy Easy peasy, you MAKE Them! Take a bunch of 1"x 2" boards, glue all the 2" sides, and put some clamps on them real tight. Then leave it sit oven night and run it through a planer or a bed sander. You can make'm whatever size you want. I made a real nice 1 1/2" thick bread board like that, but i mixed the wood. every other strip was cherry, then black walnut. For a speaker you'll want to screw the front & back boards using a gasket (No Glue Down) and leave a wee gap on the sides for expansion. natural wood tends to swell & contract (opposing the grain) during weather changes. That's why most manufacturers don't want to mess with it.
I'm trying to build a sub set to go into the floorboard of the trunk of a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe It's about 3' by 3' by 1' I want it to Put 2 12" subs in It and maybe An 8" just for quality Is any tips or tricks?
I would have wrapped the box separate from the beauty panel then attached the the beauty panel afterwards. Use a chamfer on your inner and outter edges to make stretching the vinyl around the edges easier. When your stretching the vinyl a little heat with a heat gun or blow dryer goes a long way.
I double wall all my slot ports... Also a fan of round flared ports. Precision Ports from parts express look great and get away from that typical slot port look. I have found the round port gets me a flatter response overall than slot ported boxes. Another assembly tip I suggest using a cabinet makers glue, use less. I only use Lepage Pro carpenters glue. It tacks up much faster and only needs a 10-20 minute clamp time. Full time cabinet maker with many years behind me now...
I miss my vcw,so I'm gonna be buy 2 new v3 12s because I thought my old 12 sounded great! Right now I have 2 10 inch g2 genesis subs in a 4 cubic ft box so I don't need to change but the nvx subs sound great on all music so that's why I'm gonna switch, cool video and great job
@DIY Audio Guy can you tell me your opinion on the Rockville RV12.2B Dual 12inch subwoofer box? I'm pushing two 12 Warzone Gravity g3 w/ a rockville rva-m3 amp. This box is weird considering the ports are on the bottom with no center divider. I was thinking of taking mdf and covering the ports and that will give me a sealed at 4sq ft.
Its a neat design. I think if you woulda painted or even bedliner the front trim piece it would look good be alil less work then vinyl. Im building my first custom enclosure since carpentry school 18yrs ago lol Single 12
There's a 1990 error Orion extreme boxes.. never ever seen the design box nowheres else sense and I have been around thousands of speaker boxes... basically this design boxwood make a crappy sub sound way better... it was a speaker box with a speaker inside of it with a plate closed off and then the outer of the box would kind of remind you of a bandpass but without plexiglass instead of plexiglass they used a piece of wood and screwed it all the way around in it with a side opening port.. speaker is not visual at all they made 12's 15s..and i think 10s... the box design itself was a really good design

those look pretty bossy
that box is mint mate!! id run it in a heart beat 👍
You are far too kind.
I am only halfway through this video and I love this box. I think it's gonna be KILLER. Love the wrap around port and double walls.
Thanks. I was happy with the sound, now I just need to figure out how to wrap the vinyl.
Well done! The box looks perfect from here ; )
Thanks
Great job DIY , 29hz box too thats epic :D
Thanks 😁

I will reach out to NVX and see if they can send me one.
@DIYAudioGuy Thanks for the reply, and thanks for what you do for the community!!!
I would be interested in a video on the NVX dsp also!
Positive encouragement,😊 man I appreciate that right there that's for sure.
The best advice I ever got was to not compare myself to the people around me, but to compare myself to the person I was this time last year.
Looks like a good box, like the port design. I'm playing with 3d design, and printing
Thanks!

It's heavy AF

So can my DD1 plus to real-time power? that would be Great. I didn't see that anywhere in the manual.
I was using an AMM1, Did I say DD1? If I did then I misspoke.

I am really impressed with this sub. I think I might make a home theater build with it.
How did it sound? Would it sound different inverted?
I am very happy with the sound! It would probably be tuned just a tad lower if the sub were inverted.
Where is the link to the terminals?

Maybe you should use 2" thick black walnut pressboards?
I did not know that was a thing, where can I find it at?

I made at least 1/2 a dozen ugly boxes wrapped in fiberglass before they started to come out nice , trial and error is a good way to learn new skills
Trial and error.

I'm a big fan of the precision ports. I always recommend mounting them to an internal brace inside the enclosure.
I will look into that glue.

I have not tried them, so I don't have an opinion.
I have an enclosure for two 15s its 1 inch mdf with a 2 inch thick baffle and internal braced with 1 inch thick window braces
DAMN, now that is some thick stuff.
Usually one will have square and the other circle insulation. If it doesn't a white stripe
To be fair it did have some white lettering. But there was not much of it.

The more you work with vynal, the easier it becomes..
It just involves alot of pulling and sore fingers and a headache.
I hope you are right!
