  • Come along as I take a trip to Carr Vale nature reserve on the outskirts of Bolsover. The reserve is managed by the Derbyshire Wildlife trust. The reserve it self is very good for birdwatching - attracting a lot of over wintering birds including large flocks of Wigeon and teal. Water rails have been noted. There are also a good number finches and buntings over the colder months, most notably Yellowhammers.
Over the spring and summer sees birds such as Skylarks that nest in the grassy areas, Reed warblers in the reedbeds along with Sedge warblers and Whitethroat.
There is also a man made sandbank for nesting Sand martins
