Cumbria woodland photography hide.
Hello and welcome to my channel. In Mid June - 2024, I visited the Cumbria woodland photography hide, near to Cockermouth. In this video I will introduce you to the hide (details of how to book it in description below), give a brief walkthrough of the set up and will give some tips on photographing wild birds in a woodland setting. The star of the show is the Sparrowhawk who regularly visit throughout the day. There are all the usual woodland birds and some mammals make an appearance too.
If you want to book the hide (quite cheaply too, compared to other hide setups - but the setup is not cheap, but well thought out and maintained) - contact through the Facebook group - groups...

I should also point out that you should compare both pieces of software together - Pure Raw 4 is available as a fully functional 14 day trial and Photo AI can be downloaded as a full product but you can not save or export the resulting ...

However, my day was marred by traffic hold ups and dog...

Come along as I take a trip to Carr Vale nature reserve on the outskirts of Bolsover. The reserve is managed by the Derbyshire Wildlife trust. There are also a good number finches and buntings over the colder months, most notably Ye...

    Both the 300 and 500 will be good for this hide. Might be worth taking a bean bag, they have bean bags but they go missing at times.

      Yes it is, DXO have a comprehensive list of camera bodies and lenses on their website. If you try the trial version out, every time you want to process an image, it will identify the camera and lens and download a profile. You will see a dialogue box confirm that every time it encounters a new camera and lens or updated version.

    I have been using DxO Pure RAW for many years and also have the Topaz Photo AI suite. 95% of the time I have found PurteRAW to be the better denoise application especially with very high ISO images. The Topaz product has got better in the latest release but I still prefer the DxO results in almost every case. I often found a patern/artefact in the Topaz processed high ISO images whereas the DxO results were always much cleaner.

    I’m a Topaz user but not the Ai version , to me the dxo files on the Dunnock seemed over sharpened and I prefer the control you have with Topaz , but as long as you are happy that’s all that matters ,

    • @Bird_in_camera
      @Bird_in_camera 4 месяца назад

      I still aim to use both, depending on the image and how much denoise/sharpening is required. I agree that on some of the very higher ISO images, default settings tend to over compensate. I had not played around with the settings in DXO Pure raw too much, but found it does indeed give some control similarly compared to Topaz (Photo AI). I found batch processing was much faster than Topaz and I am still going to use Denoise AI and Sharpen AI perhaps in photoshop for more localised areas. But yes, as you point out - the decision is up to the individual - that's a very valid point you have got. Hopefully, I will do a more 'in depth' look at DXO in the future once I am totally familiar with it.

      @@Bird_in_camera I look forward to see how you get on with DXO , I’ve not upgraded to Topaz Ai , not sure it’s much better than Denoise and Sharpen which I use now but never say never and will keep an open mind

    • @Bird_in_camera
      @Bird_in_camera 4 месяца назад

      @@kathleeneveritt5340 You can download and install both apps, DXO will get a 14 day trial, PhotoAI is not time limited, fully working but without the option to save or export. Latest PhotoAI has recently been updated, but there are lots of reports of it being unstable - so i will wait a while before perhaps upgrading.

    • @ivanfojan8859

      I agree. I think some of the bird images are definitely over sharpened. I use pure raw 4 with my canon r8 and I tend to use the "soft" option for sharpening, as even standard tends to over sharpen. I like how pure raw downloads a lens profile for every new combination that you use, which makes chromatic aberration and vignetting a thing of the past. It really is very good and if you're careful with the sharpening option, it's class leading software, imho. The price is very reasonable as well.....unlike topaz ai....which is too expensive, as you can't upgrade the individual pieces of software (like denoise ai), meaning you're having to pay for sharpen ai and gigapixel ai, forcing you down the path of upgrading all of them, or none!!

      Very good video. You mentioned that the minimum distance to the "target/object" should be the focal length multiplied with 20. So if I'm using a 600 mm lens the minimum distance should not be less than 12 meters?

    • @Bird_in_camera
      @Bird_in_camera 4 месяца назад

      @@PerratheSwede yes that's right, that becomes a limitation if you want to capture small birds as they will probably not trigger autocapture.
