Project payback kind of sounds like... we lose this fight.
The name is, according to that leaker, a sort of inside joke, it's bungie's "payback" for how poorly d1 & d2 launched.
Oh ok lol

Or maybe help Caital take back her planet and kill Xivu
Project names rarely have anything to do with anything in the game itself. Destiny was originally called project tiger and there was barely anything referring to tigers in the entirety of destiny up until dares of eternity and the brave arsenal having tiger iconography.

The removal of classes sounds iffy, if this was any other game then that idea would work and while id love to have all progress on a single character, theres MANY who will hate it simply for the fact the 3 character system is so deeply ingrained into the games identity
He did say that Destiny 3 isn’t going to be Destiny 2 extended or revamped. I take that as it’s going to be after the events of The Final Shape (which is probably going to change the way people wield their light/dark power) or way before the events of Destiny 2

@@zerotodona1495 No... Classes only became a thing during the City Age, when Risen started calling themselves Guardians and started sorting themselves into classes. Guardians become a specific class because they use the Light in a way that aligns with others of a similar mindset and, much like picking a martial art, it's more efficient to train as one class. Hunters learned Blink from Warlocks. Iron Lord Warlock Felwinter learned shoulder charge from Iron Lord Titan Jolder, repurposed it into a knee charge, and used it to kill a warlord in a fight. Shaw Han used Golden Gun like a Well. Drifter is not any of the three classes. In the Dark Age, it is stated that Rezyl Azzir was a Titan before the idea of Titans was even a thing.

@@East_Coast_Toasty_Boy Classes are an only relatively new thing in the story and its more of a representation of a guardian's philosophies around wielding the light and the recovery of humanity. When Drifter was reborn, there were no classes (he has said this himself), and it's why his design/outfit does not point towards him being of a specific class either. Warlocks wield the light in abstract ways/shapes, hunters wield it in the form of conventional weaponry, and titans use the light to turn their bodies into weapons. There's no non-gameplay limitation that would prevent a warlock from doing a shoulder charge or a titan creating a golden gun, it's just not their preferred style. A gameplay example I can give you is that Warlocks and Hunters can both blink because Warlocks taught them how to.
@@dharakcolossus981That’s not necessarily true. We see several different guardians predate the drifter all were immediately risen with a class. In the vanilla campaign, our ghost refers to us as our class when we finish the first fight. When Lord Felwinter was risen by Felspring, he was immediately called a warlock. Savathune’s lucent bride immediately has subclasses that bleed across their hive evolutions. When did the drifter say he didn't have a class upon being risen? He's heavily modified both himself, his ghost, and his light. It makes sense that he no longer has an applicable class but I don't recall him ever saying he didn't have one

you say this like they’ve never gone back on anything they said. i’m all about facts and logic but you’ve conveniently skipped over the fact that they never stick to a single thing they say. you can almost bet they’re going to do the opposite at some point for almost every major decision they’ve put out.
Imagine they just put the warlock jump as the default without classes
It'd be titan jump since it's a balance between the upward lift of Hunter jump and directional control of warlock jump. And, you know, it's just the best one out of the 3.
If payback is in any way literal to the context of how destiny 2 is ending, i can only think one thing.
We lose. Our universe is for all intents and purposes, taxidermied, stuck in a permanent state of stagnation and dead air. However, we're much stronger than any other universe's guardians that elsie has ever seen, and we've learned much more. So with the balance of light and dark we survive the end of everything, and our "payback" will probably entail something like returning memories back to our universe, probably reliving key points in the timeline as well as dealing with rogue guardians and forces of the witness, and ultimately destroying the witness by unraveling his creation.
Although destiny 3 was said to have been a new start entirely, seperate from light and dark. So maybe we wont see light or dark again. Alternatively, "the end of light and dark" simply meant "the end of us seeing them as contrasts".
Payback as in Bungie doing payback against themselves.
Yeah payback is more like a comeback from the state they are in
They basically have been said thar we do win and that a 'new' journey is starting which is probably why Destiny 3 could be starting
I see it as we the coalition get payback and reclaim lost territory like Torobatl
Honestly I wish it was all coalition races can be light bearers and we can have a raid team with a hive, eliksni, cabal, exo, awoken, and human
I just want D2 to have a more grim theme like D1. I never played D1 but hearing lore and stories about it, it seems way cooler than D2 lore or theme
It was
It was and it still is…
The warlocks taught hunters how to do the blink jump. There are other examples of how the different classes have begun sharing their knowledge of the light, and with this idea I believe the remainder of D2s story will lead into more meshing of class abilities. Prismatic scratches the surface of this within the class itself. So I absolutely could see D3 containing the ultimate warriors of the universe. Our 1st ever raid told us all we need to know about why everything opposes the guardian and Traveler, "Gaurdians make their own fate".
I think it would be pretty sweet if gear dropped with natural focuses in certain stats and had a look that coinsided with it. So "Titan" gear would just be gear that naturally drops with higher than avg Strength and Toughness, then Warlock looking gear would be Int and Recov, Hunters Mobility and Discipline.
Then you can mix and match a bunch of different styles and Transmog is still therr for any pieces that dont work well together still.
If they making a new game I ain’t playing that shit, spent to much damn money just for it to to be not played anymore

As in, when D3 was supposedly being developed.
Im calling it that D3 is essentially going to be Overeatch 2 for Destiny 2
Bro that was like 2 years ago when they said that…
i wonder how they're gonna erase the line between the classes canonically too. It makes sense that guardians are born from the light, so natrually they'll have the limiting 3 classes to choose from. The only way they can get rid of the class line is if the Ghosts actually started introducing Darkness to newly revived guardians too- and making guardians IMMEDIATELY prismatic, instead of just one or the other.
Going to imagine that building a character will have certian frame works. While you can mix and match however you like. Abilites will have better synergies with what we call Titan, Warlock, and Hunter archetypes. Kinda like a slider. If you move too far into damage, you'll be less and less tanky for example.

You don’t want the public event endgame again? You don’t want to get the thorn and hawkmoon for a 3rd time? It almost sounds as if you want them to innovate and do something new. That’s called “a risk” these days.
If classes are gone, I'm gone
Class identity is a myth anyways, they all play the exact same
I remember somebody who had a similar situation in D1 to D2. I can't remember all the details but they said something about how it'll be slower paced, more PVP focused sandbox and there wouldn't be special ammo (which was true for D2 release, double primary and slower game pace was dead on) but they also said there'd be no elemental damage and the only subclass type would be a kinetic subclass but there'd still be elemental shields for enemies like fallen captains.
So yeah people have been right and wrong before about seemingly prophetic things. Unless the person was mistaken, with the inclusion of Prismatic I think it's entirely believable that subclasses as hard barriers go but bungie takes the lid off of abilities and subclass perks and truly embraces the power fantasy for D3.
I like having the separate classes and supers. Gave each character a bit of a personality. Grenades being shared was fine, but that should be it

Funny, they would allow you to pick anything you want from any class, and there will be no classes when that's been their whole thing in D2 that you can't pick much when it comes to your class unlike in D1. Which was something the devs had a problem with because they didn't feel their fellow devs and players didn't pick the perks for you character they thought you should which is why they made D2 the way they did.
I think an easy solution to the “no more classes”problem is that Bungie gives us a unique identifier depending upon our skills. For example, if you have hunter abilities equipped then you will literally show up as “Hunter: Username.” Likewise they can make it so that you can only equip certain armor pieces whilst being a hunter, titan, warlock, etc. Either way I see this as a big win for Destiny 3. Long gone are they days of me trying to juggle three separate characters while also having a full time job and university :)

I have a feeling the "no classes" thing is going to be a bit misleading.
I'd guess they are going to have a system similar to ff14 where you just have access to all the classes on one character, rather than just a dedicated one.
they are making character power account wide with perfect shape, so they are leaning in the direction of not needing to farm for multiple characters, so that's why I think they might go that direction, and just make it a 1 character needed to do everything type of deal.
Prisimatic and the new exotic class items is the taste we get before D3, it kind of makes sense.
Getting rid of classes would be so stupid. There's no way they do that but then again they do a lot of dumb shit
Yeahhh destiny 3 better not be real. Removing classes? Literally removing what makes destiny recognizable? Pretty dumb if you ask me.
Pretty dumb to think that. Removing classes allows specialisation into abilities that'd still make you that class. It's the same system with more freedom and utility, to hate that is to hate a more free and just better system.
@@Darkness96302 Well what about armor? How are you gonna be able to differentiate people? Destiny is literally built around three different classes. Imagine everyone in the game having access to every single exotic armor piece with no restrictions.
It would be like Cyberpunk. Your character can be a titan, warlock or hunter by selecting powers from an ability tree. Or like Dragons Dogma/final fantasy where your character can switch jobs by changing gear
@@jmo8391 You know what? That actually sounds pretty nice.
100%. What makes Destiny so fun is the way that the class system forces players into unique builds and roles. A world where every character has the same class options is a world where every character ends up having the same boring builds.
They're not gonna do away with classes it takes away the individuality of a specific roles in a fire team, teambuilding will go out the window, what you will be able to do is get a few abilities from other classes in that also will be limited to keep the exclusivity of being in a specific class and have your own pros and role in a fight.
To be fair not having classes and letting us do whatever we want is literally what guardians are in lore, The light doesn't say "No only guns bows, staffs and knives" to hunters, it's a malliable resource like clay that realistically let's any guardian manifest the Light into any form they need.
Losing Classes would be fucking horrible.
Classes are part of a player's identity
Class identity is a myth anyways, they all play the exact same
I don’t really understand how you can remove the class system in a class base game I always imagined that it always been and always would’ve been the good old titan is the tank hunter is debuff and warlock is support but I guess we’re moving in a complete different direction
They all have offensive and support abilities, just different ways of going
about it.
I think part of the setup to classless destiny is the prismatic energy leaking out of the traveler currently. I think we're going to start seeing non guardian, ghostless characters, weild prismatic abilities and as they expound on what cabal and eliksni and hive can do with those abilities as well as maybe introduce a third darkness ability, they'll be showing more of what D3 will be as in we get races instead of classes bound by elemental classes like we have without prismatic.
For destiny 3 I hope we can customize our weapons with attachments and stuff
Getting rid of classes would probably let us have a lot more customization and I’m all for it
I know people are stupid what’s the point of continuing a game when you make another game of the same type. That’s like updating D1 while having D2 out
Example releasing a whole new DLC for d1 while making a whole story dlc for d2 is stupid and makes 0 sense
I’m not sure what ur saying entirely but I’m sure once d3 drops active devlopement on d2 would stop
No classes would be such a bad move. The 3 classes have so much personality and lore backed into the setting itself. It's not just a bundle of abilities
Let's hope the jumping is good and equal for any character
Unless they’re smart and gave him a a piece of false information laced with truth, so that if it were to come out anonymously, they would be able to know who it was that said it.
Pretty common tactic when being read-in on top secret projects.
Like maybe he heard about prismatic with very little detail about what that meant and then they mentioned destiny three was a whole separate project in the background, but threw in the idea that there would be no classes.
It’s entirely possible that there is no destiny three in the works and they gave him the tidbit about “no classes” so they could trace back to him if he talked about it.
If so, he will be proven wrong in the long run along with anyone else who talked. but internally they will also now know who they can trust and who they cannot.
Just no more recycles and i will consider playing it
Bungie already said there would be no D3 but flyable spaceships would be kinda cool tho
The issue is. Destiny 3 goes against bungles stated vision of destiny. Destiny 2 does need a engine upgrade though
Yeah that is the issue I feel you on that but I understand visions change and if it’s too much of an issue they can always revert the change.. look at the D2 launch weapon system 🤣🔫🔫🗡️ They reserved it hard af lmao so Bungie is capable of correcting terrible changes
More importantly who cares. Destiny 2 was disappointing overall regardless of whatever they’re throwing at the wall for final shape. Less resources than destiny 2 is about all I need to hear. Not buying final shape.
Ok Dawn office fixer Philip
lmao
Assuming that Bungie are actually working on D3, of course it's gonna have less resources at the minute, what do you expect? Bungie are still gonna actively working on D2 and Marathon, so they're not gonna dump most of resources into a project that has been in development for 2 years. Literally every game company that has more than 1 project does this
First and foremost Bungie has repeatedly stated that there is going to be no continuation of destiny there's going to be no destiny 3, once this game finishes that's it. And second of all this dude says maybe one true thing and you believe everything else he says when there is a literal space where he is unsure of what he is saying tell me your dense without telling me your dense. 😂🤣
Bungie also said they would never do raid adjustments like prestige raids again
Now we have pantheon
In all of the new final shape stuff the devs constantly say that this won't be the end of Destiny 2 or Destiny in general.
I'm all in for this. I feel like power creep has absolutely started to settle into Destiny 2, and even though I'm right in between that "casual" to "expert" level of experience, I'm alright with starting from scratch again
The class changes sound great I just hopw they can improve the writing too.
It would be so cool new races like Cabal or Elksni
1. Increase damage for all weapons in pvp so it’s not just team shotting
2. Make the raids easier by not requiring everyone to understand every mechanic. Think Destiny 1 raids where 4 out of 6 people just had to shoot enemies and didn’t need to rotate doing the objective.
3. Make exotics hard to get again so item rarity means something
These three things will attract new players and normal people instead of catering to neckbeards that have been playing 6 hours a day for the past decade
Ur 1st point would be nearly impossible to balance and would make PvP damn near unplayable and ur 2nd point is just false every raid in the game can be low manned hence 4+ people knowing encounters is not necessary
I REFUSE to fight the same enemies for another game. If there aren't a decent amount of new enemy races, aesthetics, AND the current races have updated/revamped AI, then I will never touch D3 if it's real.
Long as they let us carry over our stuff this time !! I remember a long time ago they said that was one of the things they regretted with D1 was not allowing players to keep everything they grind for
*sees Titan cast spectral blades*
Thinking about it, canonically Titan, Warlock and Hunter arent things really right? Its just how the vanguard order Guardians based on their skillset, Warlocks tend to lean more towards using the light, Titans their strength and hunters their agility, canonically a Hunter could possibly use a thunder crash, A titan could use nova bomb and a Warlock could golden gun, so maybe the vanguard is disbanded in the final shape?
(This is fully speculation, idk if the classes are genuine or just how the vanguard orders them)
I keep hoping we'll get that Pristine Mr. Fuzzy outfit but seeing all these other mascot outfits makes me think they just forgot about him. 🤔
Atleast we got neat summer-themed items so thats something. Thanks for the atom shop list update. 👍
In destiny 3 we'll finally get spaceship combat.
It'll be like that space mission in halo reach, but more like a open EDZ type zone to do space patrols and public events in.
What I think people aren’t really getting is that when the Traveler first gave us the Light, there were no classes. Slowly classes became a thing and that’s where we start of in the destiny universe (D1) and doing everything up to D2 brought us to becoming Paracausal, something that’s NEVER happened in the timelines of destiny. Then we combined Light and Darkness together and when becoming Prismatic we get to combine things from all classes. And during the Final shape Savathun decided to make the class exotic and managed completely fuse aspects from different exotics from different classes into one. The next logical step of that process is to learn from that and expand it to not just our weapons, armor, and classes but even further beyond, to ourselves and the world around us. It is truly a New Age in the Destiny Universe.
I shall hearby call it
The Age of Uncertainty
Since this is the first time we have ever gotten this far in the timeline without having Elsie reset everything…again
the removal of class identity would probably lose me as a fan. The class identities are so ingrained in the game, and are so defining for this franchise. we may be dipping our toes in it now with the exotic class items taking perks from other exotics in the game, but bungie did it in a way that still works within the framework each of the class's identities.
also, i feel like if you remove classes as a whole; as soon as someone figures out what the highest damage/DPS "class" setup is, everyone will be exclusively using that
TL;DR - it's not a bad thing to have respective roles in games (titans as tanks, hunters as dps, warlocks as support)
Removing classes so that you can make your own build is definitely going to be a cool idea
The removal of classes kinda makes sense since lore wise we can use any sorta light ability whether its in our class or not
“Dont fix whats broken”
Hopefully it'll be more traditional RPG classes where you level up and choose what skills you want/to improve per level.
They need to get rid of crafting and replace it with a system that supports rather than works against the looter shooter features.
I mean based on lore some npc characters like Eris morn and drifter are multi-class if i remember right so this change makes sense but hey as long as i can keep wearing capes n hoods and stick to throwing knives as my melee ability then im happy as i start D1 beta as a hunter main because my fondness of such aesthetics for the hunters.
