dinklebot saying "it's in the walls!" during the d1 tutorials still lives rent free in my head
Don't forget... "we've woken the hiiive"
Same!
First thing I thought of when I watched this video
he had a couple banger line deliveries. I liked that he sounded sort of worn out, like he really had been searching the system for you for hundreds of years and now it's like, k, gotta keep this super-powered blueberry alive long enough to get us home...
@@xXx_Regulus_xXxTHIS! OG dinklebot sounds like an experienced traveler, a veteran seeking to fulfill its quest, as if the ghost has been searching to revive the player for centuries, maybe even more.
The voice of Dinklebot paired perfectly with Destiny 1’s apocalyptic wastelands across each planet.
I miss Dinklebot. Glad I was there to experience it
"This ground is hallowed out for miles. Who knows what's happening under your feet"
"We may want to move back... We've woken the hive!"
"Access key? I don't need an access key. Dos is more complicated."
"This should lead us right to the grave. The world's grave... not ours."
"They've broken the Beckenstein limit."

Same man
Dinklage was a terrible voice for the ghost 😂 boring and pointless.
Forever missed dinklebot
I will always remember the line where the ghost gets called “Little Light” to which Peter Dinklage sharply says “Don’t call me that”
The cutest moment of Destiny 1
It's like, every company has to have Nolan north in their game for some reason. Peter's original voice was perfect.
It was organic (considering the consciousness of the guardian is put into the ghost when they die, and delivered with his own spin.
Now it's just some robotic sounding dickhead 😂
Bungie should never have sold halo
@@PrehistoricPanda…what?
@@PrehistoricPandabungie didn't sell halo. they were offered a better job to work on a new IP without microsoft breathing down their necks for an indefinite number of halo games as fast as they could pump them out. halo ALWAYS belonged to microsoft. bungie just worked on it for a long time.
@@other_horizon1085 That's not true at all. Bungie originally developed the Halo IP, just Microsoft bought it to put it on the Xbox because it needed a flagship title for launch.
It's sad because I never ONCE thought it was a bad voice for my ghost
Miss dinklebot so much 😭
It was a good emotionless robot voice which is obviously what they wanted otherwise they would have directed him differently
@@iphone777 I figured that he just got too expensive 🤷♂️
I think he was doing GoT around then. For sure got expensive. This is pure propaganda
@@ikonno_gamesIIRC, Bungie themselves stated the change to Nolan North was due to Dinklage’s availability at the time. It had nothing to due with money or people being unhappy with his performance (I personally prefer him to Nolan) but it was rather scheduling conflicts with his work on Game on Thrones that led them to find to replace him.
We went from
"We've woken the hiiive 😱"
To "We've woken the hive 🤓"
I know... it ripped my heart out. 😿
This is the first thing I noticed when it changed 😭
Yep, me too. Peter had the best delivery for ghost
No better way to put it lol
He's fucking my wife
Fun fact- If you go to the dark within a mission in Destiny 1 now, there is a chance that you can hear the ghost say "we've woken the hive" in the original Dinkle Bot voice.
that was my favorite, and the old days of grinding that door section right when “we’ve woken the hive!” for glimmer and gun exp to unlock nodes for them
Wait fr? I farm that mission whenever I get a kill hive gun for gunsmith orders and have never got the old voice
@DFH02 if you do it there is a high chance of that showing up. It was added back in the AOT expansion
@@Donantonio26 oh damn I must be hella unlucky
@@Donantonio26aot expansion? I read this as attack on titan please elaborate im a bit dumb
God the nostalgia hearing Dinklebot again. He’ll always be remembered as part of that classic vanilla D1 experience when the atmosphere was at its peak
Old memories from a better time
Vanilla d1 was an experience, I miss all those old d1 experiences especially VOG and crota 😂
He was still the best to say “Eyes up Guardian”
“WEVE WOKEN THE HIIIIVEEEE”
That’s gotta be the most iconic voice line ever
YES! I remember this the most
This is the most iconic line to me!
Peter's performance of this line really chilled me when I first heard it. Combined with the Temple of Crota music and my heart was beating out of my chest !
Rose tinted glasses.
"You're voicing a robot."
"Oh, so no effort then."
Actually no legion had emotion and he was still robotic from Mass effect and he was funny
@@ingamingpc1634Legion still had a relatively neutral tone od voice.
@@anonymousapproximation8549 true but he sure was a hell of a lot funnier than tyrion's voice actor they should have hired tywin's voice actor
@@ingamingpc1634 That's an issue of voice _direction,_ not the voice _acting._
@@ingamingpc1634funny thing is, Legion's VC is the same VC for Albert Weaker and Rayvis from Jedi Survivor. The man has some insane range.
"OK Peter you're voicing a Robot, Go."
*Peter Dinklage Delivers*
"Why do you sound so robotic?"
He didn't sound like a robot at all. what? lmao.
@@Th1sUsernameIsNotTaken Monotone and unemotional is how most would describe a robot sounds.
@@sparkls4492 and not everyone who speaks monotone and unemotional sounds robotic, much like Dinklage doesn't sound robotic here, because it's more than just that.
@@TotallyNotThatOneGuyYou obviously don't know shit about the situation. Peter was lied to or misinformed about the amount of lines he had to record for (ten times the amount), and due to not getting a proper wage, intentionally didn't try with his deliveries. Honestly, I don't blame him.
It's not even robotic. It just sounds depressed.
I've never heard someone yell in lowercase until I heard Peter Dink yell "you've awoken the hiiive"
Can't forget "we've woken the hive!"
the thralls charging me down have burned that voiceline into my brain
iconic line. still rememer it like it was yesterday
Shout out to all the D1 Release players out there.
(God I miss Dinklebot)
No you don’t. You’re just nostalgia blinded and miss those old days.
Missing something is an entirely personal thing, you can't just look at someone and say "nuh uh" about that

Long live DINKLEBOT
Same
Dinkle Bot still holds a place in my heart, and I think the wizard line being memeable is a good thing
As a D1 day one fan, with hundreds if not over a 1000 hours into it ..I severely miss the dinklebot. Hearing that voice again seriously triggers some happy memories. Ahhhh, such a great time D1 was.
Hearing dinklebot is like a Time Machine for me… brings me right back to summer/fall 2014. The world is so different now.
I know man
I can't believe it's about to be 10 years, seems like just yesterday, but at the same time a whole different world.
Back then people used to just invite randos in the tower to run endgame content. U would hop in a party and talk to people u just met that evening then friend them and run a bunch of stuff with them over the course of d1. Now at days u can’t do that in any game really.
So true
I miss the soft anticipating music too, letting you know what you were about to do!
There's a special deep sadness and nostalgia I feel when I remember D1 and how slowly I became disinterested in D2. Like a fire slowly dying.
Man i loved D1, it was great, then i tried D2, but i was late, thought "ah well, it'll just mean it's updated" But nah, they removed the game itself and replaced it with a long tutorial and dlcs, damn :')
I would still be playing d2 if we could play all the content that was paid for. Taking away major parts of the game and removing weapons/making them non upgradable is what made me stop. I'll happily use up 500+ gig on my drive if it means I can play the whole game again......
@@joshuamorin2762the writing was on the walls for the first game. Anyone who bought d2 is part of the problem.
@@joshuamorin2762you still can’t play the old content, however they did un-sunset every weapon in the game. You can use anything now. The newest content drop is also probably the best bungie has ever made. Finally feels like the old game, in a way, again
When Bungie abandoned the original Destiny, I took that as a sign to quit. And I did. I’ve never played Destiny 2 and never will.
It doesn’t matter if Activision forced Bungie to make a sequel. The franchise ended when Bungie stopped developing content for the original. And from all the constant complaining I’ve heard from the community ever since, I definitely made the right choice.
I was a D1 Day 1 guardian.
I miss dinklebot. It gave the world of destiny just a touch more wonder. Like Ghost was as surprised to be reading the info to me as I was to hear it. Like we really were going on a Grand Adventure together.
Dinklage's, "That wizard came from the moon," is the literal opposite of Gambon's, "Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?"
I love Dinklebot!! I wish we had an option to switch our ghosts' voices!!
This needs 1 billion likes
He talked about this and even said they told him "We want you to sound like a robot"
He delivered what they asked for, and they hated it. so instead of simply asking him to redo them they got rid of the amazing potential he couldve provided
What were they expecting him to do? Sound like a voice filter? He gave them neutral so they could process it. Sounds like the audio dept. was filled with new hires.
This is what it looks like when competent people are given minimal direction
Lol he doesn't sound like a robot bro. He sounds like he is a random traveler from game of thrones telling a weird creepy story in the middle of the night. I like the dude, but this was absolutely horrendous work.
i agree
I thought it was because of Game of Thrones
He was so good at his job; when I went back to replay it with my friend, I could immediately tell, and was not feeling the game as much. “I’m a ghost, well actually I’m YOUR ghost….”that line hit me hard when I first started the game
I can still hear "Don't do that"
I like how nonchalant he was about our potential death the 1 to 1 of knowing dinklebot cared the same as the people around me was spot on
It oddly reminds me of the asshole Ghosts that Drifter described in the Dark Ages. The kind that’ll “kill you for a blue engram and spit on your grave shortly after.” For a Ghost who supposedly spent centuries searching for us, Dinklebot felt very unperturbed about our safety and well being.
@@J-manli to each his own, personally he felt very "down to business" kind of ghost which i vibed with 1000%, plus there were some lines in D1 that absolutely carried more as dinklebot rather then nolanbot, like the little light line, the we've woken the hive, and some others', but nolan def grew on me, Especially with the final shape! The two have their own charm
I dont hate Nolan's performance, but i just wish we had options. Even just a male and female ghost voice.
Right! Like can we get some Snoop dogg voice lines !
@@Dolla12593call of duty ghosts throwback
Yes! I’ve always said if they copied what Titanfall 1 did with their Mech voices, I would be a happy man (for those who don’t know, they had 8 voices ranging from different accents on male/female to robotic voices)
Could we revive Sagira in our own ghost since she has already been there and probably has residual data floating around?
@@FallenShadow990 dude ! That's what I was gonna say ! Probably one of the biggest highlights of curse of Osiris
“We’ve awoken the Hive” will stay in my mind forever
For me the one that was drilled into my head was:
“We’ve woken the hive!”
My OG ghost still has it and “they can pry it from my cold 💀 hands!” Yes I have the physical one!
You're the mvp my friend
Keep it, nobody wants it
He’s was suppose to sound like a ghost/robot and he did just that I loved him as ghost
He ended up sounding like a bored, "done with your crap" guy. Sunny from I, Robot sounded like a robot but still had personality. Dinklebot was just... Well, "that wizard came from the moon... zzzzzzz".
Ghosts have personalities, though. This is a critical part of their function. They are a soul.
Dinklage added to the errie and creepy feeling of descending into the hellmouth and the hopelessness that comes fighting the darkness. "These tunnels go on for miles. Who knows what's happening under our feet"
As opposed to nolan north who sounds like claptrap. They took ghost and gave us claptrap.
@@itsscookin You can add to the eerie and creepy without sounding bored. One example is Plankton from Spongbob. His voice shifts constantly between octaves, which makes him sound villainous and gives that unease. Ghost is suppose to be our friend/companion, so something that'd be more fitting would be to sound more stressed and on edge like Tatsuhiro Satou from Welcome to the NHK.
@@itsscookinpost apocalyptic world that felt that way with dinklebot, ever since removing him it’s felt too happy and cringey imo
On the moon when they found the dead guardian and Ghost said, "Where's his ghost?", Dinklebot sounded more fearful.
The thing about dinklebots delivery was it was more deadpan and made destiny feel more somber than what it is now
One thing I remember hearing at the time of the switch-up was that Dinklage's schedule was too busy for him to come in and record new lines for the new expansions and updates, whereas North had more availability. I forget where I heard that, though.
One comment that lives rent free in my head to this day
"Dinklage is busy with GoT, Nolan can put down his pipe and snuggy and take his time getting off his recliner"
Dinklebot sounded real. Nolan’s sounded like a kindergarden teacher talking down to a kid
dude 100% that's how I feel. It's patronizing
Agreed, though more of a very worried caretaker than kindergarten teacher, but still patronizing all the same, though over the years it kinda grew on me and with final shape, i can def say i'd miss nolanbot if he were gone
That’s literally what he is
North sounds like a scared little kid sometimes. I hate it. Dinklebot had balls.
this!
“Weve woken the hive!!!”
Will forever have a special place in my brain
I honestly cant imagine his voice with most of the recent ghost lines, our ghost has become a lot more expressive, pretty much our voice in the narrative
Yeah, a lot of people are here saying he was the best and most fitting, but honestly the lines I heard back then were hilariously _terrible._ Makes me wonder if it’s people just being blinded by nostalgia or blind fandom.
Does anyone else get a peaceful feeling when you hear Peter Dinklage voice the ghost! Bungie will never know what they really took from us.
Yea I preferred him tbh
I want to know who was actually complaining, maybe joking but who really wanted him gone
@@jhsrt985 A lot of people were. I never got way the commotion was so big.
@jhsrt985 It wasnt that he was bad, it was that they couldnt get him back to do any more lines. Imagine if ghost only spoke in the base 1st game and never again.
i miss dinklebot. so nostalgic
When they changed his voice, I was like: what the heck happened to my ghost?! I went to my settings to try and change it back but couldn't
Dinkle light was iconic and I love to look back on my time with him
It wasnt just his performance as Ghost that got him replaced. His role as Tyrion on GoT was arguably a better role for him to focus on
"We've woken the Hive!"
... was one of his better lines.
My brother has the D1 Collectors Edition with the life-sized Ghost. It still has Peter Dinklage's pre-recorded voice lines.
In an alternate Vex timeline...Dinklebot is still my Ghost.
I'm happy with Nolan North as a D1 player
He wasn’t that bad, there were a couple lines but overall he did some better than Nolan. Nolan is still great though!
What kind of D1 player exactly
As a D1 player im not
@@eriseethics9716It's questions like these, that make me question being associated with either of these games.
@@Asgaardiangatekeeper simply because if you started later into D1 most players are going to favor Nolan but a lot of Og players enjoyed dinklebot
I always loved Dinklebot. Never understood the hate. There was some bad quotes for sure, but they were all due to bad writing, not due to bad voice acting. Now the ghost has WAY less if any voice lines. Even after changing the voice actor.
The ghost has too many voice lines now.
Idk what you're talking about, the ghost talks way more then he did in D1 year 1 which was the only year he was dinklebot. Also Nolans voice fits the character way better
@@joshuauntchnah if I could shoot my ghost just to not hear it talk I would. Sounds like a little bitch all the time
He was boring and obviously underpaid 😂 he definitely didn’t do a good job doing the course of the ghost. As an original destiny gamer my clan hated the Dinklage voice for our ghost. He had no emotion and said the most obvious things. I don’t get how people liked it! Just because he is a good actor doesn’t mean everything he does is gold. He was underwhelming and very boring. That why everyone wanted him gone, he said some stupid crap at some stupid times.
@Reality_check10 That's your opinion and you are as welcome to it as I am to mine. To me it made him sound more like a robot. It worked for me and I liked it.
"This is complex" ah yes 3 waves of enemies complex
I wonder if they said "Ghost is akin to a guide/lore holder from fantasy games." and Peter delivered but Bungie didn't know how to implement it for their High Fantasy setting
Nolan is just gold. But as a og d1 player old tyrion actually did a great job and i didnt have any issue with his job as ghost.
Agreed.
I always thought he was a bit flat, but I thought that was intentional because "little robot thing".
Still remember how Dinklebot said "So, think you can kill a god?" at the end of the campaign over Nolandroid
@@IncarnateSable thats probably because you only played that mission in year one and never went back once they removed dinklebot. He sucked ass as a VA in D1 best thing they did was replace him with nolan
@@brilyman I regularly played through the entire story multiple times over the lifespan of the game.
@@IncarnateSable of course you did bud of course you did 🤣
Dinklebot was MUCH more fitting given how apocalyptic and rustic Destiny 1 felt. The monotone voice really set the tone. It felt like your ghost was an experienced veteran, whereas the new ghost sounds like a child.
Your ghost isn’t an experienced veteran though. He spent however long looking for your corpse.
This this this. I always said it went from my ghost being my companion, learning and experiencing the war torn system with me.... to a nagging voice that needs to stop talking down to me and get the door open already
@@neondiddle1676 the new ghost sounds like an annoying child. Like we’re watching an episode of Dora, just horrible.
Since the change, I have begged for a setting to mute ghost
If I spent hundreds of years exhaustedly wandering around trying to find a single, specific person instead of being able to just revive anyone my voice would be lackluster, too.
Dinklebot was the best ghost voice EVER.
Fun fact: When I heard that they were replacing Dinklebot with Nolan North, I got confused and thought they meant Christopher Nolan. I wasn't paying attention, and I think the Dark Knight came out around that time?
Your ghost menacingly said to you:
*“I’m BATMAN”* 😅
When I heard they were replacing him Dinklage with North the first thing I thought was, "A million voice actors and you're gonna get THIS GUY??" What about the guy that does the voice for Bender from Futurama, John DiMaggio? Yeah, yeah, DiMaggio does Banshee-44 but who cares?
Bungie be like: your voicing a robot
*Dinklage delivers a robot voice*
"Wait thats illegal"
I always saw the ghost, especially after the guardian was resurrected, to be a calming voice since the guardian is in an unknown environment
“We’ve woken the hive” was my friends yearbook quote for senior year
I loved him as ghost. I like the regular voice not the robot one. I love how calm he sounds. Powerful.
"ok ill get to work on this door"
That is pretty unfortunate because his voice really does sound good
I miss dinklebot too, but I started all my other characters just to experience the campaign and those lines again.
I’m glad we all came up with “dinklebot” on our own. And we didn’t know how much we’d miss him till he was gone :’(
Pff my favorite line from Dinklebot was on the moon when you first encounter the hive and he says "Where's his ghost" but all I ever heard was "Where's my toast?" 😂😂
Dinklage sounded so much better imo
He did but dinklage wanted to do got plus he cosy a fortune
No he didn’t! He sounded bored and underpaid everytime he spoke. Everyone hates him except for the Dinklage lovers 😂 he did a bad job going the ghosts voice and we all know it. No emotion and no real effort in his voice.when you are surrounded by hive you don’t expect your ghost to talk like nothing is happening 😂 you want to feel in the game and experience what it might be like to be surrounded by enemies a little bit. He took the excitement out the game sometimes.
He sounded way better imo too. New ghost is too flamboyant, chirpy, often cringey, pretty happy given it’s a post apocalyptic world… idk. I felt actually immersed with dinklebot. He sounded like he was borderline traumatised from what he’d seen before resurrecting us
@@Reality_check10I hate how people say no emotion, like??? Why does he have to be so irritatingly flamboyant all the time. Doesn’t even make sense
💀
I loved Dinklage as a ghost. People made fun of it because they thought it sounded like bad acting but it wasn’t. It was supposed to sound robotic and AI, a neutral tone. I honestly hate this over the top cartoony ghosts we got now because all because people can’t understand storytelling unless it’s spoon fed to them.
Bingo
They are spoon feeding the story, because they don't really have a story. You have a weird golf ball, that started spreading nothing but chaos by breaking the rules and making mortals immortal. Now you have some dude who really likes triangles, and that dude wants nothing more than for the chaos to end. Outside of the vex, that is literally all the story they have. Seriously, at this point, I don't know how anyone can see the Traveler as an ally. The traveler is literally playing both sides. Only a character with a chaotic alignment would do anything like that.
Oh My God You nailed it
There's story?
@Asgaardiangatekeeper the first destiny had more story and lore. It's part of why the downward spiral of d2 makes me sad. They had something good to build on, and they flubbed it.
i loved his voice, the nonchalance of his voice made him seem like everything going on around u is kinda normal now but because you’ve been dead for so long you’ve missed everything that’s happened since.
He really felt like a guide.
The OGs will remember "We've woken the hive" followed by (The Darkness Consumes You) for blues
I miss his voice for ghost was the best
Dinklage was so much better imo
honestly i have never really listened to the destiny game sounds that often i usually just blast music or listen to videos while playing the game
I was there for this... I have to say my favorite line was the annoyed 'Don't do that', it felt so much more annoyed than Nolan's
I thought his voice was amazing!
I like Nolan alot more than Dinklage. Bad writing or not, Dinkle just sounded bored and uninterested.
He sounded like he didn't care for the medium of video games and was just there for the paycheck. Which fair enough but god he just sounded so detached like can he put a small sliver of passion into his voice? That and the long pauses made him feel awkward and clunky.
@@Wormy_fren WDYM by "SMALL" HUH?
@@hhaste I'm asking for him to sound actually interested in the script. For him to feel engaged because from what I've listened to he's just this soulless thing with no passion or interest in the universe which he is in.
The only real issue with dinklebot was that they had him do the lines cold with basically no context before any scenes from the game were finished. The writing for the ghost was also super lackluster.
I will never forget the line. "We've woken the hive!"
"YOU'VE WOKEN THE HIVE!"
"We've awoken the hive!"
“WE’VE WOKEN THE HIVE!”
I never once had an issue with his lines, most are delivered as what seems to be a somber robot especially in the skywatch clip from this short.
I thought the most infamous one was we’ve woken the hive
*Timmy Turner dad voice* DINKLEBOT!!
"We've woken the hive!”
I wish there is voice options you could choose from for your ghost, that would be awesome. Also I miss Peter Dinklage as the original voice
"You've awoken the hive!" with dinklebot still sticks with me
“WE AWOKEN THE HIVE!”
We should be able to choose our Ghost's voice
I think hes the best VA for the ghost bungie scrubbing it was the wrong call
I wish the kept the d1 robotic sound design for the ghost
I was there for the Dinklebot, good times
“i didn’t go through the horrors of war only to lose nina”
Me and my friends were heated when they changed it
You do scifi so well. I always love your acting and storytelling, but the environmental design is done with such care and attention to detail. The ambient starship sounds are honestly one of my favorite parts of this. I love the soft, rhythmic hum. Seeing one of these in your unintelligible/no talking formats with just the ambient noises someday would be lovely.
I still have my collectors edition ghost solely for his voice. The alpha/beta and D1 itself is such precious memory for me.
i always remember him saying 'eyes up guardian' and I so miss that
My brother got the collector’s edition of the game back in the day and it came with a real ghost with the peter voice lines. The dinklebot still lives
Peter: dark, dangerous, cryptic apocalypse world where hes just as scared as you
Nolan: youre a rainbow doomslayer, let me commentate
I remember when they added the new voice lines. It was like they flipped a one-way switch and it took a while to get used to.
I remember thinking "oh yeah, homeboy definitely phoned this in." No inflection, no enthusiasm. Your Ghost always sounded like it didnt even want to be there.
Dinklage voice, with the digitized effect, was better than the new guy. 100% I remember first playing it with a good headset. It sounded like it was in my head.
They still have some of his lines in the Cosmodrome strikes. They've been adjusted, but you can tell it's his read by the cadence and inflections.
