Your aunty is a very wise woman. In the West people would prefer to drive to the market even though it’s in walking distance - all the creature comforts make us lazy and reliant on things like cars when we should be exercising instead of choosing the easy route.
Things are unbelievably cheap compared to many of the markets in the West - I wish I could be there soaking up that natural vitamin D. I hate the cold and the lockdowns within my city. The people seem much more happier than in the West, even they’re dirt poor! No one
hardly smiles here - you have to know a person really well before they will let you into their inner circle so to speak.

@Rashaenka that is how Ghana market is. You can ask for reduction but if you are a shy person you will just pay and go. This isn't racist. You can go to different places and the price will be very cheap. They create their own prices

The African women is a machine. She is mightily created by God, God created her excellently with strength. Amazing, extremely strong.
Kevin a challenge for and your family want you to start a crusrade on plastic because it has blighted the land escape of Ghana cities, towns and villages as you plastic takes over 5to years to decompose at least a little part.will start something your know.
To be honest they are really not machines, and no stronger than women of other communities, but for the sake of keeping it short they're often in circumstances where they have to persevere regardless of how vulnerable they are feeling, whereas other women have some level of protection/ shielding/people willing to relieve them. So rather than see them as "machines" and power houses we must see them as women who make the best of what they have.
So all the more reason why they should be given a break and doted on - let's make this an aim to consider resting time for the African mamas in our communities rather than see the struggle and somehow see it as a badge of honour, for husbands to offer to cook and let the wife rest when he sees how tired she is? I wouldn't want my own mother to have to work too hard and don't wish it on anybody
@@chasingthesun90 well said, but a greater honour is for us who are blessed beyond this level of existence to go there and be a blessing to them. Lets build our people because our people are a reflection of us.
We should not go there and be bargaining with them especially when we have the means rather we should be a blessing to them. Buy whatever you want ro buy from them and give them a gift of 200 cedis or 500 cedis. That amount could move that person a step up the chain. She can start her own business with that small to us but very significant amount to him or her. Nobody will ever build African but us and until we do that when we travel outside and we say we are Africans, they will never regard us as human beings. Lets kill the selfishness and begin to think beyond ourselves.

@@cheendo7400 to be honest that's a big question that can be answered on different levels, I'm not sure I have all of them. The quick item is by putting them as the centre of attention regularly, investing and believing in them. As an African or black person how do we respond to the pain and vulnerabilities of black women in a culture that may not necessarily encourage counseling for example? And for men? So kindness, respect and compassion on an individual level. At the same level or more than what we offer to those different to us. As with the comment above about freely paying a premium this may not always work as with the hustle mentality they've been brought up on, it may be better to put the spotlight on this by providing better opportunities than throwing cash at them; so encouraging initiatives that promote women being financially independent and how to scale your business? Encouraging and sponsoring attainment of a higher level of basic education (up to 16-18 years ideally) - a lot of NGOs are on the ground doing this. So there can be some finesse and upgrading of the products and services they come to the market with, so they know their rights and they can protect their ideas, innovation - to know they can file a patent or trademark? So short term for those already in the circumstances, as a customer - patronizing of business (maybe through long term contracts). Teaching and connecting them to NGOs who can guide them in scaling and protecting their business, product refinement/development.
As a loved one, knowing they're unlikely to ask, so proactively taking some of the load off - cooking, cleaning, washing. Do not ask just do it.
Long term, having ambition for the girl child (and our boys too) . It's not normal for a child to be selling at the market on a Wednesday afternoon. They should be at school. Initiatives to outlaw child labour, holding our government accountable, more investment and care for quality of education provided in state run schools, to have ambition for the next generation. A big conversation as I said - this needs a think tank and a conference 😂😁👌

In Zimbabwe its the same,young girls are taught how to balance a load on their heads without touching it.When my sister was young,she could carry a gallon of water on her head and walk without using her hands to balance it.Its good to see that we are not abandoning our culture in favor of Western styles.

I heard the market women calling Kevin obroni meaning Whiteman . the food is more cheaper than you think but the beauty and white nature of Kevin rob the market women of words. at one point they increase the price for his aunty. his aunt would have bought them even more cheaper. the market women want to come inside that whitemans camera. very interesting and funny.Kevin is charming and attracting the market women. their attention is not specifically on His aunt but on Kevin.
It simply means a Westerner,even if you are Black and you come from the West they will call you that term.In Zimbabwe where I am from,they call me ''Mukaradi'' even though I was born there and moved to Australia as a teenager.Each time I go visit they call me that term,even though I am black like then,it has more to do with living in Western Culture so I am no longer in loop with my culture,so they call me ''Mukaradi'' It means a mixed race person,or someone who is Black,but not Black enough lol!

Folks, lets be a blessing to our own people. Lets bless them randomly without expectation especially if we can. Lets not go there and negotiate them to the ground and then go sit at a restaurant and spend 200 cedis qor whatever. Lets shop at these local markets because these are the true ghanians who need our help. Lets set up small scale businesses and employ them. Simply coming to RUclips and making comments will do nothing for them. If we can financially help lets do so. By an item from them for 5 cedis and bless them with 500 cedis. That maybe the money they need to put thier boy or girl to school. It could be the rent money they need so they are not homeless. This is the true spirit of giving and helping our people. Until we lift each other up anywhere we go and we represent as ghanians will only earn us disrespect and condescension. God bless us all in Jesus Name

As as child growing up in Jamaica I used to carry things on my head from the farm and bucket of water. This Bearer is strong, she is earning money for her family. When I move to Ghana I will have a trolly to pull, I would feel right having someone carry my things.

She is not earning money for her family but to survive, she left the village as a girl because of poverty and ended up in the city looking for work, many of these girls work at the markets and have babies whilst still young
I wish someone could invent an object for women to use to carry their products in the market instead of using human beings. That lady has a baby at her back and I believe it is not good for her back and for the baby too.

Farmers in the country, don't get good price for their produces, may while those market women over there making all the profit. We'll take that from them

yes please tell us, on what bases are you making this statement?
It depends on your definition for a good price. When they give a good price we will get some people to say they are overpricing meanwhile there is no enough payment for the toils they go through to give us food. Most times I don ask for reduction I just pay because they deserve it. Thanks for your thoughts though.

Salt fish 🐠 is a way of preserving fish before the arrival of freezers.
Hausa Koko is a Grey Millet porridge, it's spiced often with Ginger, Cloves, Soh aka Negro Pepper, aka Selim and other spices. It's called Hausa Porridge because it was made popular by the Hausas.
It's not "BOFRUIT" it's African doughnuts, locally called BOAT FLOAT, because of the way it floats on top of the oil when being fried, Nigerians call it puff puff.
Did anyone notice the Aunty bought two different types of plantain? One is called "Apim" which is mainly boiled and eaten with stew, but can be fried, baked/roasted/grilled and it's tastier and slightly more expensive than the other that is called "Apantu" that is used for "fufui/fufu, but can also be fried, grilled, roasted, baked, and then with other ingredients turned into plantain fritters, = Tatare, or Kaakro, Asaanku, or Ablongo or Bodongo = Plantain Bread, and
Asaanku = plantain cake and other plantain dishes.
