- @CharlesBerthoud put up a video recently explaining that his fretless bass cover of “Hotel California” was removed from RUclips and a copyright strike was added to his channel. In my opinion, it’s a real shame that great bands like The Eagles, among others, are notorious for allegedly blocking videos using their music and issuing copyright strikes. To me, people sharing covers and informative content about the music is nothing but a good thing, and blocking those kinds of videos does nothing but leave a bad taste in the mouth of a large part of (mostly) the younger demographic of their audience. There are many videos on this topic from RUclipsrs such as Rick Beato that explain this issue way better than I could, so I’ll link some of those videos below.
Please feel free to discuss in the comments, I’d love to hear what you guys have to say. And most importantly, go support Charles! His channel is absolutely incredible - Just don’t expect any Eagles covers any time soon XD

"Universal Music Publishing Group took down the video and issued a copyright strike on May 2nd. However, videos of Don Henley talking about their group of 60 employees whose sole job is to scour the internet for Eagles content to remove, is my reasoning for the title "EAGLES taking down my video". This happens far more commonly with Eagles than the majority of other bands, leading to the natural conclusion that they are fully aware and responsible for this."

Just don't cover this song. It's been played too much anyway so it doesn't impress. Cover new talented people, not rich and stingy old frts
@@zizhdizzabagus456 I’m not the biggest fan of this song in particular either lol, but it’s more the principle of copyright striking covers that I’m trying to highlight here. I love the older bands, and I’d love to cover a lot of them way more than I do, but a ton of them are notorious for this stuff…so I tend to stay away from it. My opinion would be the same for any newer bands who do the same thing, although I think a majority of the newer artists are a bit more “in touch”, for lack of a better term, with the online community. It could be just luck, but in my experience I tend to have less problems covering bands like Born of Osiris and Trivium than I do with bands like The Beatles.
Some artists entirely missed the train of what's going on. They have the narrowest minds and didn't keep up with the times and new kinds of exposure. They are just accelerating their own demise, and they will be duly forgotten. Everybody's loss. Is this stupidity, greed, ignorance, bigotry, all of the above?

I agree with you absolutely. Covering the song of a band is the best way of promoting them, and giving more audience to their work. If there's a band who doesn't understand this, no problem. Just play songs from another one good band.
The Eagles will be forgotten forever😢
I hope not, because I really do think they are great! They are just really not helping themselves or their legacy at this point in my opinion with all of this controversy regarding them and copyright over the past couple years

This happened to me yesterday, I tried uploading a Hotel California cover on my channel but it was banned in all countries from the get go. I contested the strike and so far so good it's up.

The "Eagles" are a big joke. How would they feel if God put a copyright strike on their band for using the name of one of His flying creatures?

Got that feeling as well when it recently happened to me first time. First confusion and then certainly mad.
I just got my first copyright strike for playing on my guitar the first few opening bars of Witchy Woman with no other instrument backing. Emailing the Universal email address resulted in no response. Haven't decided whether to fight it via RUclips or not. Suggestions?

I recently subscribed to a streaming service. Been curious about the song Hotel California some audiophile reviewer said always exist in any audioohile's collection. Guess what, I'm no longer curious about it now. And I put Eagles in my (mental) block list of artists to NOT LISTEN TO.
