We don't learn from history, we repeat it over and over again, hoping for different results. This is what Einstein described as insanity. America is INSANE!
I cannot, in good conscience, support or vote for a candidate who demonstrates little or no respect for moral or ethical principles. Leadership demands integrity, honesty, and a commitment to the greater good of humanity. When a candidate lacks these basic fundamentals it undermines the trust and confidence that the public places in their leaders. So, voting for such a candidate would be a disservice to the values and principles that are the foundation of a just and fair society. The cult of an Autocrat has spoken, and chosen a leader. Thank you, Seth, for offering a semi-bright light of hope in this post election distress.
I saw a quote don’t look at the leader, look at the people who voted for them. My shock is wearing off and it’s turning into anger. I was naive. I didn’t realize how little values, morals, ethics and character matter to the American people. The made up price of eggs and gas mean more than their country and democracy. Disgusting.
You care so much about the personality, but you're blind to serious issues that, if left alone, inevitability would lead to the collapse of the American experiment. There are serious problems that have been exacerbated and ignored. I voted for Trump.... for you.
Could you please explain to this guy all that's wrong with America, driving us to collapse, and what Trump will do to turn us around? 🙏🏻 (But, FYI, character ≠ personality)
@catcampion You seem nice enough, but if you actually cared deeply about foundational economic infrastructure, then you would already know. There are obvious holes in this figurative boat. Leave the complications to me. That way, I can simply help make your life better, and leave you to worry about the issues you find to be more pertinent to your immediate peripheral. Maybe you'd be more interested with inconsequential social issues that nobody agrees on.
But you can vote for someone that instead of helping ppl in a crisis goes to a beach while trump went and helped. You would vote for someone that abandons you instead of supporting you. You would vote for someone that want to take our rights just so you feel safe.

Ours wants desperately to be exactly like yours. He duped and conned enough people into believing he was the only one, the chosen one, who would vanquish all of his cult's bogeymen that he purposely invented and sold to them. His pathological lying about the press who covered him with facts made his cult not trust the media, only what he said. He is going to use his power to completely tear down all our institutions, departments and agencies of our government and replace all government workers with only those who swear loyalty to him. If he gets away with that, our country will become just like yours.
Good message. My wife and I left the US a few years ago after they stonewalled the Jan 6 committee. While we still keep watching the US, we might have to actually check out for good, for our mental health. I will say to whoever reads this, the years I've been away gave me a lot of perspective that daily life in the US is not normal. That country was founded and run by religious fanatics since the 1600s and it permeates in their culture.
I have to say sorry in retrospective then. It was us, Europeans, who kind of made life impossible for these severe lunatics. There simply was no space for them to rule among us; wáy too extreme and uncompromising. So they left for "the promised land".
Quite right. My son and I traced our genealogy to five passengers on the Mayflower which is disheartening since my son pointed out that they were the crazy scientologists of the time. 😢

I'm one of the _extremely proud_ minority who voted to deny authoritarianism. Despite my sadness & shock, I hold my head up high, knowing that I tried to do the right thing. I can look at my two daughters (26 & 8) & my son (24) in the eye, knowing that I have their best future in mind. My oldest daughter is one of the many transgender Americans who are now fearful of what's going to happen. I'm also fearful for her & the entire LGBTQIA+ community... along with so many women, immigrants, People of Color, and anyone else who will undoubtedly see their basic human rights trampled & stripped away after struggling for _so long_ against the denial of said rights. I do not have a large platform or millions of dollars, or the ability to join protests across the country... but I still have _a voice_ & an unbreakable will that demands a better world. AGREE 100percent!!! I, as an African-American, woman, senior citizen, Democrat and voter, since the age of 21, am much more than disappointed, I am angry, worried, disheartened, about the future of our DEMOCRACY 😢😢DID anyone in their comments mention that ??? I refuse to accept that Trump represents DEMOCRACY !!America we are in for a very bumpy ride!!!! Be careful what you wish for!! Trump said out of his OWN mouth, he would be a dictator on day ONE if elected!! .MAGA do you even know what that means???😢😢😢😢
As the son of a holocaust refugee, I am both shocked and dismayed to have witnessed the second victory of a man who has made rounding up innocent people, many of them women and children, and putting them in camps for "deportation." WTF, America? How can these folks "not see" what they voted for? This time we have the frosting of treason (Jan 6) to put on the rotten cake. F donald trump and everything he stands for!
Watching it from abroad, a German citizen and a PoC, I experience the USA with the fascination of horror. The fact, that this guy gets a second term is unbelievable. No matter what you can share with him, but if you believe in democracy, January 6. should tell you, that letting this guy into the White House again is a big mistake. I think the USA is literally doomed. And so is us, the rest of the world. The human society is in flames (so is the planet!), and a majority of American voters elected an evil entertainment clown, who likes to play with gasoline. We are collectively in a much greater danger than before the election of 45 as 47.
You assume they were listening to a damn thing to begin with. The maga cult has been deaf, dumb and blind since the count of mostly crisco slithered down the escalator. Hard to get any words to land when their ears are crammed full of rw bs.
Absolutely AMAZING! I wish that we could run this on an hourly reel on Fox and the rest of the alternative reality shows. Maybe! Just maybe this would be powerful enough to break the orange idol illness they all suffer from!
Every abstention is a vote in favour of whoever benefits from you not showing up. Make voting compulsory! In this case, if you didn't show up, you voted for Trump.
Thank you Seth you said all the things I’ve been feeling. This one hurts, a lot. When Kamala said “we are not going back” I was so sure she was right. I thought Americans would do better and reject the chaos, hatred, bigotry, lies and corruption but they didn’t. They turned out in droves for the senile old con man. It’s a sad day for America and this democratic experiment.
@@louisbarrow4671 its gonna be a great 4 years for corporations and billionaires. The rest of us are gonna struggle. "One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It's simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we've been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back." - Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World
This is very true. It is very painful to admit one is wrong. It goes against our very nature. We will defend our thinking to the death before changing it. And this is true of the left, too. That is the core problem. 100% of the people in the country think 50% of the people are stupid and evil and none of us are in that 50%. From Psychology Today "Admitting we are wrong is difficult because we attach our sense of self to an idea, cause, or group. When we feel that idea about the self, our identity, is threatened, our evolutionarily-linked fight, flight, or freeze survival mechanism becomes activated. We defend against being wrong and fight to be right."
I feel betrayed. Those who did this are saying to those of us disabled living on social security and medical benefits that they don't care what will happen to us.
They are the same people who use the roads, electric systems, water for their homes, internet etc, etc and don't realize those are government sources that they depend upon.
I'm also disabled and will need Medicare to pay for upcoming cancer treatments. I'm going to start a Go Fund Me. I'm also going to look into getting my passport.
I’ve said this to another comment section already. I’ve witnessed were U.S citizens (1st of all I’m white who supports Kamala) In my university where I used to study I had classmates who were of different backgrounds - one was black and the other was Filipino. Throughout our time at the university, they were protected by individuals who openly embraced liberal views, who openly supports Obama, shielding them from harassment by Trump supporters around the Campus due to their race which they faced almost every school year, even after college, they dealt with a lot of hate crimes from Trumpists during his presidency (visibly shown in their Social Media) the Filipino individual lost a family member due to a hate crime attack during the Trump presidency, and guess what? They were openly Trump Supporters on their social media posts during the 2020 and 2024 election. When I asked (online) the black person what is her reason, it was “Jesus first”, while the Filipino girl responded “Because I’m smart” and shared a lot of posts in her social media, mocking the democrats’ love for togetherness (through her captions) and horribly edited photos of Harris and of the democrats from our university who had been always there for them (one of those liberals even spent money for her health care during the pandemic, if it wasn’t for it she’d be gone by now) and still went against them and democracy in general. I also heard several Filipinos for Trump, this is what they’ve bought back after liberals fought against Asian hate Crimes. All for the 💵 I HAD DONE A LOT OF RESEARCHES. NOTE THAT THE PHILIPPINES WAS KNOWN TO HAVE A NICEST PEOPLE, WELL GUESS WHAT? They have a lot of Trump Worshippers, for the sake of money, they even have I am racist t-shirts (I’ve seen Filipino locals wearing it during my trip to the Philippines) This shouldn't deter us from being the heroes we all have the potential to be. Betrayals are like poisons, but the strongest among us can develop immunity to them. The traitors are the rotten fruits among of us we could throw away.
I’m a 21 year old with lupus and autoimmune liver disease and I’m terrified of health insurance companies being able to deny people with pre existing health conditions again. The affordable care act saves millions of Americans every year.
You need to know there is talk of taking Social Security benefits too. Evidently, the MAGA lawyers have been looking at all the laws and how to rework them for several months. No one knows much and the Medicare rumor is making everyone take Medicare as one option(no supplements and unsure if that would effect you yet)
Trump has NEVER said he’s changing any type of benefit Americans rely on. Health Insurance in the USA is a business & It’s the Insurance companies that decide what is & is not covered & the changes are due to the COST of the benefit or treatment they pay out. I know because I handled health benefits. Obama care was supposed to be the same as health care in Canada. IT IS NOT! Canadians DO NOT have free healthcare. They pay federal & provincial (state) taxes & ARE NOT penalized for not getting insurance. The bad part of not having private insurance, a doctor MUST refer you to a specialist & it could take days, weeks, months & years. Harris lied when she said Trump is connected to Project 2025. Trump is not mentioned in the 900+ pages, nor did Harris READ it. Her team decided to LINK all of Trumps policies to Project 2025 because & I quote: “it resounds within voters.” There are a lot of FALSE narratives & FEAR MONGERING by Trump Haters. Stop worrying about something that hasn’t happened, it’ll cause lots of anxiety & you don’t need the stress.
Thank you, just thank you….I am still in the despair, however I believe your message to keep trying and not succumb to the resignation. I am old, but I am willing to stand tall. Thank you.
Me being a 60-year-old black woman in a state of Texas. I am not surprised at all. I knew your relatives. I knew your friends long ago. They are who they are. and will always be,they just knew how to hide it from you, but not me
I feel the same way as a 41-year-old Indian guy who was born and raised in the US living right now in NC. I knew from a young age and experienced how backwards and stupid his friends and family are.
Throughout Obama's presidency, I felt a tremendous change in the culture, one where outright bigotry was shamed and things looked up for minorities. But you could always see these glimpses, that you hoped were just embers of a fire long gone. But after 2016, the bandaid that was the Obama term broke off and the festering wound started leaking uncontrollably. This election result is a demonstration of that, a majority of a population that previously hid it, are now in the open proudly celebrating their hate, selfishness, xenophobia, lack of empathy, and sense of superiority. It almost feels like Trump is a symptom of something already there, and it makes me incredibly disappointed in those around me, even (especially) family.
I'm so sorry. it breaks my heart reading that! i am a white man from the countryside of the Netherlands. ever since i left i have learned how toxic the environment i grew up in is and going back to see some of my old friends is becoming harder and harder. sometimes people will feel comfortable to say the most horrible things because they think i automatically agree with them, and when i confront them they say they're half joking (but not fully) and that I'm too sensitive. they get angry when i tell them their jokes or ideas are based on racist ideology, but i see that they are hypercritical of non white people and almost celebrate whenever a non white person does something bad because it validates their beliefs. i cried when my friend told me: "Nobody beliefs they are racist here, but if I make one mistake in public I am no longer a person, I have become the physical manifestation of the root of all their problems." they are conditionally compassionate, which isn't compassion at all. i wish there was more that i could do, but it's so hard to make ground when there are so many hypocrisies. the oppressors convince the people that the oppressed are the problem, the perpetrator believes they are the victim. the challenges today are enormous but i will never give up the fight. much love and be well ❤️
Could not agree more I’m a gay biracial man who was born and raised in Texas (Van Zandt County) and have seen some of the worst of humanity my whole life and how they feel about me and others like me, then turn around and put their mask back on when around those they accept. They why I am but also I am not surprised by this outcome
No they won't. They will accept great hardship as long as Trump lives up to his promise of hurting the ones they hate. This is beyond reason. It is now all about fear and hate. Hate above all. Except for the 10%, for whom reduced taxes is a good bargain against the depredations levied against the 90% who will pay for them. The irony is lost on that idiocracy of dolts who gleefully voted for the Leopards Eating Faces Party. May their own tribulations bring eventual regret.
You are loved Seth. I appreciate that you shared your thoughts on this shocking event that Americans embraced twice. It saddens us all that can see clearly.
For 25 years, I labored under the delusions that Americans are good people. Now I’m realizing that this was never true. My faith in this country is utterly shattered.
I can't blame you but keep in mind this fact: 72 million are depraved. Despicable beings. But...BUT there are about 340,000,000 of us in America. 1/5 need serious intervention. That's not 66 million others that voted for a decent, smart woman to lead us. US has 800 greedy-as-hell reichwing billionaires that are bottomless pits of insecure misery. They want more of our tax $$$$$$. And total control. That's what this is all about. Typical fascism.
2016 hurt, but I could understand (or at least I tried to understand) perhaps why someone would go that route. Once I read Project 2025 in full, plus the crimes he committed, plus the insurrection, plus the mass deportation of children and families, etc etc this country has no excuse. I almost hope Trump destroys this country just so they would wake up. But then I remember, they’re idiots. And would say, it was the Dems doing without a lick of evidence other than daddy Trump’s words. 🙄
Although I am not American, my Asian roots and experiences in the UK and the US shape my perspective. Many in my family have thrived in significant roles within major American companies. While I may not support Trump, I recognize that mistakes are part of being human. This great nation and its people will persevere, and the future holds the promise of transformation and progress.
Devasted. Grieving the loss of democracy. It affects me directly as an ESL teacher of immigrants. Our federal funding will be pulled. Many of my students will be deported. My Ukrainian students are terrified. I had a session with my 12th grade Ukrainian student and she spent the entire session sobbing. Her entire town was wiped out by Putin. Her family doesn't have their green cards yet. She is worried she will be deported. My heart is breaking for all of my students.
Everyone will be impacted by this, but first and foremost my heart goes out to Ukraine. It was literally the first thought I had after loudly cursing at the news. Stay strong.
My heart goes out to you. It's not comforting, but let them know: Trump and Putin RIGGED this election with Elon Musk. They LOST. And now America is owned by Russia. So all People who love freedom are now on Trump's Dearh List. We are ALL in danger. Because Putin just bought America.
America needs a major dose of humility and an end to the hubris. "The Greatest Nation on Earth" does not elect a convicted, naricissistic con man as President. Thank you your insightful and passionate commentary.
Most Americans are spoiled. They have no idea how much of the world struggles to live a day to day existence. It’s a shame that the rest of us will now have to suffer from this ignorant maga folly.
Well obviously America is no longer the greatest nation on earth. Maybe God is going to raise up another nation to subdue the USA and that nation will be considered great by the World. So it is also dependent on the citizens of a nation.

I am a follower of Jesus Christ, a Christian. I must say that everything you said hit home. This only proves that we have more in common than we have differences. You’re speaking with common sense and reality concerning our humanity as it unfolds in the United States. During this election I kept going over in my brain those same scriptures you stated and I couldn’t wrap my mind around how people who identified as Christians didn’t resemble any of the attributes or fruit the Bible declares should be evident as a Christ follower. Yet and still they choose a leader for themselves who they think is their savior and who believes he is a god. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with honesty and clarity.
Jesus only got angry about one type of person... hypocrites. All letter, no spirit. All lip service, no heart. And we just saw the majority of the country's voter base decide they trust a lying, raping, scheming hypocrite more than an admittedly flawed candidate but that had actual policies to lift children out of poverty, help new families, redistribute wealth and help build the middle class. A large portion of the bible is about the "have's" giving to the "have-not's" It infuriates me at the idea that the majority of evangelicals would fa Ii l to recognize their Savior if he were here today (in the way he presented himself in the 1st century).
45 (47) has attributes more like the Anti-Christ, even down to the MAGA hats across the evangelicals' foreheads who support him fits. They follow "Republican Jesus" and not the Nazarene. I became an agnostic long ago, but these people don't follow their own Bible (well, maybe the OT and those punishments). They are not Christians in any sense.
I respect your choice in your faith and I would defend it religiously… but as an ex Catholic 60 year old male now atheist, you can see what us free thinkers see when we become atheists … that religion is a TOOL of the ruling class … it is meant to assuage those of simple mindedness…. It’s about power and control…. And that’s all religions…. The reason they preach anti Marxism is because he was right …. Good luck going to church and realizing Jesus is just a weapon ….

This whole thing is insane - but that any sort of "christian" would follow Trump is a very special kind of insane. Honestly, that's fair. This is a genuine issue, and just like the Trump presidency, a lot of people are going to pass. This is very true. It is very painful to admit one is wrong. It goes against our very nature. We will defend our thinking to the death before changing it. And this is true of the left, too. That is the core problem. 100% of the people in the country think 50% of the people are stupid and evil and none of us are in that 50%.
From Psychology Today
"Admitting we are wrong is difficult because we attach our sense of self to an idea, cause, or group.
Her team decided to LINK all of Trumps policies to Project 2025 because & I quote: “it resounds within voters.”
There are a lot of FALSE narratives & FEAR MONGERING by Trump Haters. Stop worrying about something that hasn’t happened, it’ll cause lots of anxiety & you don’t need the stress.

I could see this coming and although I am not surprised I am hugely disappointed.

I can't blame you but keep in mind this fact: 72 million are depraved. Despicable beings. But...BUT there are about 340,000,000 of us in America. 1/5 need serious intervention.
That's not 66 million others that voted for a decent, smart woman to lead us.

Honestly, that's fair. This is a genuine issue, and just like the Trump presidency, a lot of people are going to pass. The COVID pandemic took place as bad as it did, in-part, because Trump dismantled a pandemic-preparedness team that Obama had put in place during his term, and like a year later COVID hit.
