Yes, and that had its beginnings all the way back in 1965, when the Democratic Party "lost the South" taking the side of the Civil Rights Movement. LBJ knew there was no going back. Nixon then had the Southern Strategy for the 1968 election win.

Correct. Along with Thatcher he ushered in a new, Neo liberal, world where productivity continues to sky rocket with a doubling of the work force (women) along with all the benefits of automation. Wages stagnated and fell away. Capitalism is now a production line where non can fail. The symbiotic relationship between invention and wage growth is a thing of the past by design. It is class war and like Kyle says pitchforks at the ready because they will never give it up gladly.

To be fair, he made it worse, and then lost the election in 2020.
Problem is, voters have short term memory. They forget all the horrible things he did and remember, “inflation wasn’t this bad under Trump.” So they voted again for him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he absolutely makes things worse and then republicans take a beating in 2026 and 2028. Of course if democrats don’t drastically improve the lives of everyday people, GOP might be back in 2032.

That it does says nothing good about Americans. It's always excuses. Like blaming the electoral college. Terrible politicians should always lose by overwhelming numbers. That they do not is yet another indictment on the stupidity of the American voter. This time that's not even a little bit of an excuse. This idea that you have to be a genius to get educated on basic reality is the reason the bad guys always win. Americans are either totally stupid and have no clue on even very basic stuff about how their lives operate, or they are good with fucking over themselves because at least people they hated also got fucked too. The thing, I find most interesting, as a UK resident, is the excitement Americans get, about the wealthy. Not what they do with their wealth. There's a group that's been around for a while called Move To Amend. Their goal is to amend the constitution to specify that 1. Money isn't speech 2. Corporations are not people. This is one of the big fights we need. And before anyone says it's impossible... did anyone think that the right to vote for blacks and women was possible? How about banning alcohol? It can take decades and cosmic shifts but the only way is to start at the grassroots and work up.

Both ammendments I would support, as well as an explicit right to bodily autonomy.
But while we are in fantasies about a better timeline in which the US doesn't implode, how about also abolishing the electoral college and SCOTUS lifetime appointments?

@@grumpyoldman6503 I also agree with those points you added. And let’s also add age limits, because a lot of our politicians are old and don’t understand that times have changed

@HinataElyonToph I go back and forth on term limits. Mandatory retirement feels ageist, but cognitive function is hard to condition or legislate.
Just being out of touch, in theory should be taken care of with the fundamentals of democracy itself (ie you don't win the election when you don't appeal to your would be constituents).
But that's where stuff like banning gerrymandering and just having a functional republic (eg the judicial checking the executive and legislation and vice versa) come into play.
