Fantastic post. Saw Danny a handful of times around B-more and MD. Was lucky enough to be in the very front for a show at Max's in Fells Point. About 5 feet from the master. Man, oh man!
Wow! What a treat. I went to school in Charlottesville and was lucky enough to see him several times there and 1x in DC around the time the red record came out. It was crazy, but at a couple of those gigs in the summer, maybe 20 people were there. As a young guitarist, my mind was totally blown. Loved when he had Evan Johns in the band who was a great singer and foil for Danny as well as a fierce player in his own right.
I had the privileged to see Danny multiple times at the original Birchmere before it burned to the ground. There was a door to the right of the stage that you could hang by and try to catch Danny to get an autograph. One night we were waiting and Danny invited us back into what was considered the Green room for the place and we just hung out and drank some beers. He was just like an old friend. Huge loss in losing Danny. I learned quite a bit from his video lessons. It’s a lil strange seeing him playing a LP and not a Tele. When you’re that good you can play the strings off of ANYTHING.
