  • My first woodworking project. This is my biggest project yet! I made a wooden surfboard from scratch! Very satisfying project and very cheap.

Thanks! 🙏 I’ve still got the feeling that I don’t know what I’m doing. But glad it helps you shape your own board! Beware!! It is very addictive once you’ve surfed your own handmade board! Good luck and if you have any questions, hit me up on instagram. @dzjiefoils

Nice work! Just one advice on glassing. Brush epoxy on the wood first. It will help you keep the cloth from moving, it is also easier to saturate cloth from below, since you don't trap air in. It also enables wood to absorb some resin, different parts of wood have different porosity and when you apply resin to the wood first, you can put some more resin in those areas. Some highly porous areas can suck epoxy in when you think you're finished and you can starve the cloth of resin. Nothing terribly wrong, but it caused some more work.

It came out super beautiful! I’ve always wanted to build one but have hesitated at how much work it would be. I think I’m much happier seeing someone else do it haha. Thanks for sharing👍🏼

Haha. Yeah it's a lot of work, but it's doable if you spread the work. It took me almost half a year to complete this thing. But I only worked on it on the weekends. Thanks!

Really awesome build! Have you had a chance to take it out for a surf yet or did you decide to hang it as an art piece? Regardless turned out beautiful. Is there a reason you decided to fiberglass it instead of sealing it with like a polyurethane finish? I feel like that would've taken away some weight! I've been think about building one out of 2x4's but that'll be in the far future!

Yes I surfed it once on a pretty good day in the Netherlands. It paddles nicely, and glides very good. But you feel that it is too heavy when you are trying to turn. It’s like turning a very big oil tanker. Not my style of surfing. So it became an art piece that I occasionally gonna surf.

I used fiberglass to make sure I covered all the tiny holes. I was very anxious of water inside the board.

Thanks! 🙏 the final weight is 7,5kg. It surfs like a boat unfortunately.

Amazing man! So much effort involved all my respect! I'd like to shape one quite similar using foam tho! Is there any way you could share the template and profile? Cheers man, looking forward to the next videos
