Hey Jason. My name is Whitefeather. I’m a veteran that picked up photography to help with my depression and PTSD. My girlfriends idea. It’s helped me so much. I’ve been doing it for about 3 months now. I would love if you’d stop by my social media to give it a look. Love your videos! FB: whitefeather_photography and IG: whitefeather__photography Majority of my photos were with a canon 6dmkii, but, my most recent ones are with my Sony A7riii
Thank u Jason super helpful vids! but why nobody talks about the constant auto focus pulsing issues of the A6400, vlogging and videos? ...smh no one talk abt this problem. Gonna return my a6400 the pulsing autofocus is super annoying.
I’m a new amateur photographer and a new Sony A7Riii owner and just wanna say I love your videos and have found them so helpful and fun to watch. Thank you for such great content!
Choosing a camara was the hardest decision I’ve ever made 🤣. I have started my RUclips film class and you’re one of my teachers . As a beginner I went with a 6600 with a 18-105mm f/4 . I loveeeee it. Excited for this journey.
A few notes to items on the list. 2) NTSC/ Pal Selector Please note that the camera WILL format the card when you switch between NTSC & PAL so bear that in mind. 3) Eye-Start AF Only works for the LA-EA2/4 adapter with A-mount lenses & will start focusing when looking through the viewfinder.
Right off the bat, I switched to Sony about 4 years ago, just got the a7iii over a year ago, and I never turned off the auto high temp shut off. I've experienced the a7iii shutting down due to overheating maybe twice, so this is a great help! Even though I have been watching your videos for a while and a Sony user, I learned a few things, thank you man!
To touch base about the animal autofocus, I’ve done exactly what you suggested. I set one of my custom buttons to switch between human and animal and it made it so much easier!
The Eye Start AF is an invention by Minolta, used on their SLR cameras. If you bring the camera to your eye, the autofocus is already activated without having to press the focus button. If you e.g. connects an old Minolta AF lens to a Sony camera via a LA-EA4 adapter, this function is enabled in the menu (I hope I explained it correctly. I come from Germany and my english is not that good)
I've watched a few of your videos and subscribed. Over all other tutorial vloggers out there, yours is the most appealing. Refreshingly easy to watch and no ZZzzzz's. Thank you for your hard work helping others. Tom A7III (UK).
excellent video! The tip about formatting was interesting. On a computer if you format a hard drive with the right software you can probably recover data. That is if you do not write anything else to the drive. Not sure what Sony has that formatting the SD card doesn't let you recover any data. Good thing to know. Thanks!
Hi Jason, good video! JFI the Eye-Start AF function is different from the Eye-AF. Eye-Start AF is the equivalent of the Pre-AF but for A-mount lenses, and it only works by getting close to the Finder. So if you use E-mount lenses, the system tells you it’s not available :)
Just a note regarding slow motion frame difference between PAL and NTSC: switching won’t give you slower slow motion. PAL uses 25 fps, while NTSC uses 30 fps, so switching from PAL slow motion (100 fps) to NTSC slow motion (120 fps) won’t give you slower video... it will always be 25% of normal speed.
Hey Jason! I’ve used the ease us recovery wizard and it worked for recovering Sony images. I actually ended up buying it works great and saved me for sure!
Jason Vong 2:30 - Eye-start AF is NOT the same as Eye AF, so this bit is wrong. Eye-start AF refers to the camera starting the focussing when it detects your eye is at the viewfinder, or something essentially blocks the viewfinder, such as having it on a strap and resting against your chest. If you have it on in this situation it will be attempting to focus the whole time it's on your chest, or when you are looking through the viewfinder, which is why you sometimes want it turned off. This is what the two little boxes under (or over) the viewfinder are for.
I have a6600 and something bothers me a lot. I figured out how to set M1 and M2 memory settings like you did in 15:45, but if I shoot in M1, set focus, focus peaking, focal length, zebra, grid, peak highlight etc. when I switch to M2 it will all be lost, and if I go back to M1 it's not coming back. Is there a way to assign a custom button to (video) file format change? Or at least add it to function menu?
Hey Jason, I haven't tried, but I would be VERY surprised if the on camera format actually did anything too destructive for good forensic software to recover. To accomplish that the camera would actually have to write "0"s to every bit on the sdcard. And as we can tell when we burst 30 shots, writing to the sdcard can take awhile. Good hard drive wiping software does triple passes through the drive to write "0"s and it can take hours depending on the size and write speed of the drive.
I can confirm that formatting the card in camera means no consumer software based recovery software can find any files. No, it’s not writing to the entire card, but you’d need a hardware recovery solution (good luck!). I just got twin 512GB SD cards so I only need to format every month.
You have a new subscriber! I've been urban exploring and doing tons of photography and videography with my alpha II and have tons to learn still! Thanks for the informative videos as always! 😄
Maybe you can help me. Like they say always ask the expert. I have an A6600. I purchased some coloured lights for the background and I use one key light for now. I notice a strange thing happened during filming the video. I notice after when I am editing and I see the video. I see that the video started out as a somewhat dark video image ( which I like) - like most vlogs. Then it starts to brighten itself as the clip goes on. The camera seems to some how change something in adjustment during filming.Im not sure if I have to turn some setting off or adjust other settings?
Great info bro! I’ve had my camera over a year and didn’t know a lot of these tips. I’ve never needed them but gonna have to look into using some of these now.
Thanks for your tips and tricks. So very valuable. I'm very concerned! My new a6600 (bought last week), in CINE mode everything is DARK when shooting video. No idea why. Is the camera defective? what am I missing? Thanks so much. I very much appreciate it.
Could you do a video about which newer Sony cameras have improved features over the older generation? This is the most confusing part because not every feature is advertised by Sony.
I wish I would have known about the striping issue on the 85mm FE 1.8 I watched your lens video before this and bought it. That being said thank you for the tip about the website I will be looking at that to help.
Hello, I"m a canon man. I shoot everything. Thinking about coming over to sony. What's the best sony model camera for video, and photography, studio, and outside?
I had a question: I am going to live stream using my A6600 camera. The small USB cable that comes with the camera to charge ( im not sure what its called what type of cable it is) ...is there a longer one that i can purchase somewhere ? Hi Jason! Congratulations on your channel. Very inspirational !! I have switch to Sony (A9) recently from Nikon and I am very happy so far. Any advice on this camera?
Jason, I’m a newbie with a Sony A6600. I was taking a self tape for a potential short project and I switched over to movie mode selection on my A6600. When I finally uploaded the clip to my I-Pad and ran it, the picture started slow and sound did not link up with the picture. What did I do wrong??? Oh yeah, my ISO was high, around 2300. Help!!!
Zhu Jason.. I'm your big fan.. Just have a question about 5. Eye AF in Video. I'm using Sony A7R iii. Of course I got face detection on still photos. But NOT in the video? Even I'm using 24mm f1.4 lens. Eye AF in video its doesn't work. ? Any ideas? Thanks. G.Lam
Could you please suggest me in this two lens which one I buy ? Tamron - Gm - sigma 70-200mm ??? I’m new in this photography Line so I’m confused please help me.
Thank you Dude for the tip to turn off Long Exposure NR and High ISO NR.... that fixed my severe lag time on my A7r IV even with the fastest SD Card!!! For the longest time, I thought I had a defective camera! Thank You Thank You Thank YOU! 😃🙏
My Eye AF (A7RIII) doesn't track nearly as well as I see it work on RUclips videos (such as yours). All of my lenses are native Sony lenses. What am I missing? It's constantly losing the eye, even when the subject is not moving very much.
Can you help to explore more on the difference between Smartzoom, ClearImage Zoom and Digital Zoom? To activate them, it needs to be shot in JPEG (medium size) and set to digital zoom. My next question is, will shooting in smaller jpeg files improves the noise or quality of the photos? Thank you in advance.
I was just doing my Sony A7III custom settings when out of a sudden the monitor went black. I turned it off and on and the problem continued. I thought it could be a discharged battery but it wasn't either. The camera still take pictures but nothing could be seen on the screen. Do you have any clues of what this could be ? Thx

Jason I have just bought a sony a7iii and as a beginner in video filming I have seen a few of your videos and am impressed. I wonder if you could guide me in choosing a suitable lens for my shoots. Majority of my shoots are performance music video shoots of the singer in a 20feet x 20feet room at night with bi colour lighting. I currently have a 50mm 1.8 prime lens but I have to move far away in order to capture the full body shot that makes the subject appear far away. How can I overcome this issue?

Hello, this is amazing, how did you get the record limit off the A6600?
Dope video ! If you have any pratical and easy solution to not reset video to 001 everytime you format the SD...

ya dang right
A few notes to items on the list.

3) Eye-Start AF

Agree. Eye start AF and eye AF are two diff features of Sony ILCE/ILCA cameras

how? im going through my A6400 settings and i cant seem to find the human/animal eye focus option to put on my custom buttons
Jessica Hebert its labeled as SUBJECT DETECTION. You have to go to the section that lets you program your C1 and C2 buttons.
Jessica Hebert and you have to have the latest firmware update to get animal eye autofocus on the A6400.
Setting the Memory Recall info..... MEMORY RECALL NOW MAKES SENSE!!! It took me a bit to understand. THANKS!!
A couple of these were super helpful, thanks
Thanks Jason ..these reviews are super helpful....to a hobbies as if you aren't shooting frequently you forget these settings...
Love this video! Im a new Sony user with a Sony A7ii and this is a huge help!
I learned quite a lot but boy, you're fast with us the starters. I wish you could particularly, step by step, go in details on step 21.
I just got the Sony a73 last week. This video came right on time.
I'm a new Sony user, thank you for this video
so helpful for mastering sony cameras. So many buttons.
New sony user. And overwhelmed autofocus settings are confusing
Had my a7iii for a few years now and some of these tips are helpful! Thanks Jason.

That touch tracking is gold!!!! Had my a6600 for nearly 2 years and didnt know that. Although it does not work in 100fps. Thanks Jason.
You have the most helpful and interesting channel on RUclips! Thank you!
So helpful! I just got my new a6400 today and was shocked by the amount of menu options, you helped me so much. Thank You Man!!!
I am buying this camera this weekend! Together with Sony 24-105 Lens. I'm excited
I'm part of that new wave and your videos have been very helpful. Thanks
I don’t even have a camera😭 and I’m still watching this.
One day you will have for sure
@@gaurijgauthankar1621 Yeah just like me

I've recovered Sony images from a card using the software link that comes with Sandisk Extreme cards.
You´re so cool! and your tips are great! Thank you! It´s a pleasure to learn with you
Much of them is helpful as I am beginning in a7ii.

Thanks Jason ... my good news is ### i got my new a6400 ### .. thanks a lot for your supportive videos .
I watched this video for guidance on my new sony camera purchase! Thanks!
this was a very concise and helpful video. thanks
Love your videos man they're one of the main reasons I switched to Sony and I couldn't be happier with that choice.
top 10 most informative video in my youtube vidoe watching history
Now I finally know what the hell proxy recording is. Thanks.
haha np!
As a new Sony user these were some great tips. God bless!
thanks for the tips dude! have an amazing day
youre welcome!
Eye AF in video mode in my A73 works just fine with Tamron Lense :)
Or at least add it to function menu?
can you do A FULL SETTING video for the sony A7rII
So just to clarify, Zeiss Batis lenses DON'T use "lens compensation" (#22) in the a7iii?
If I recall correctly eye start AF is a feature of A mount lenses. Since you can adapt A mount lenses to E mount Sony keeps it in the menus
Ah! Thanks for the tip!
A lot of these are overlooked in other videos, so thanks for compiling all of these into one video! :)
Hi jason, can you do a sony a1setup video? thank man.
love your videos

its good to refresh some memory settings of my sony cameras. thanks Jason for this video.
Wow great tips, especially since I am about to switch from Canon to Sony!
I am glad I came here and stayed. I didn't know what 1/2 of these were. Knowing is power especially when shooting video. Thank you Jason.

wait a second ??? What do you suggest Format on camera or format off camera ?
Is that normal touch follow not work well when the screen flipped up and when lens zoomed in?
Thanks for your tips and tricks. So very valuable. I'm very concerned! My new a6600 (bought last week), in CINE mode everything is DARK when shooting video. No idea why. Is the camera defective? what am I missing? Thanks so much. I very much appreciate it.

make a video talking about the difference between raw compressed vs uncompressed

Hello, I"m a canon man. I shoot everything. Thinking about coming over to sony. What's the best sony model camera for video, and photography, studio, and outside?
I went with the A7C to start but would love to get my hands on A7Siii but I shoot mainly video. Some of the A7R series are great for photography.
Do you still recommend using Canon colors on a7iii ? Is it worth switching ?
I had a question: I am going to live stream using my A6600 camera. The
small USB cable that comes with the camera to charge ( im not sure what
its called what type of cable it is) ...is there a longer one that i can
purchase somewhere ? The one that comes with the camera is only about
one foot long...not good for outdoor live stream where I may need a
longer cable.
Insect eye focus is coming soon
would you be up for making another hour long video on how you setup your A7R 4 like you did with the A73?? pretty pleaseeeeee 😩
Strangely I couldn't turn off audio settings (#19) any idea why clicking on didn't give me any options to turn off?
Thanks for the tips! really appreciate your videos!! :)
heyy im using sony a7riii and a6500 for video !!!
thank you so much Jason i learn a lot today
Hi Jason! Congratulations on your channel. Very inspirational !! I have switch to Sony (A9) recently from Nikon and I am very happy so far. Any advice on this camera?
Is there a way to set picture profiles to be on only when in video mode?
Jason, I’m a newbie with a Sony A6600. I was taking a self tape for a potential short project and I switched over to movie mode selection on my A6600. When I finally uploaded the clip to my I-Pad and ran it, the picture started slow and sound did not link up with the picture. What did I do wrong??? Oh yeah, my ISO was high, around 2300. Help!!!
Such a helpful video! Thank you thank you!
I cant find the touch mode (at 7:30) ? Can anybody help me? I use the a7iii
Where do you get those tags that you’ve got through the lanyard/strap holes?
3:15 on A7iii is at MENU 1 - 6/14
Does the animal auto Focus include Goat Eye Focus?
Zhu Jason.. I'm your big fan.. Just have a question about 5. Eye AF in Video. I'm using Sony A7R iii. Of course I got face detection on still photos. But NOT in the video? Even I'm using 24mm f1.4 lens. Eye AF in video its doesn't work. ? Any ideas? Thanks. G.Lam

Thank you Dude for the tip to turn off Long Exposure NR and High ISO NR.... that fixed my severe lag time on my A7r IV even with the fastest SD Card!!! For the longest time, I thought I had a defective camera! Thank You Thank You Thank YOU! 😃🙏
im glad this video helped! :)
Just to make sure. This doesn’t include the a7c right?
@Jason, Which is a better choice to buy Sony a7 III or Sony a7 R III?
Is it possible to do in camera double exposure photo on the Sony a7Riv?
My Eye AF (A7RIII) doesn't track nearly as well as I see it work on RUclips videos (such as yours). All of my lenses are native Sony lenses. What am I missing? It's constantly losing the eye, even when the subject is not moving very much.
Maybe change the tracking form standard to responsive and increase the speed of tracking
Great video. I learned a ton today
Why oh why is touch tracking not enabled by default! 😫
Does the sony A7riii have touch tracking? I don't see it in the menu system
Thx
Can you please suggest good software for editing photos and videos.
Jason your video's are so well done and are incredibly helpful, but the music in this one drives me nuts. Not sure if you use this in others as well? It's very distracting even though it's mixed well, it's just a busy tune that detracts IMO. Nit picking for sure! Keep up the great work!
I just realized part of the reason the song bugs me so much is how it sounds at 1.5X which is how I watch videos on RUclips. It's not nearly as bad in regular speed. My bad. :/
Hi Jason..do you have best setting photo & video for sony rx0 mark2? appreciate if you ca share tips or link. thx
Quick question, what lens Jason is you using in the video?
Jason I have just bought a sony a7iii and as a beginner in video filming I have seen a few of your videos and am impressed. I wonder if you could guide me in choosing a suitable lens for my shoots. Majority of my shoots are performance music video shoots of the singer in a 20feet x 20feet room at night with bi colour lighting. I currently have a 50mm 1.8 prime lens but I have to move far away in order to capture the full body shot that makes the subject appear far away. How can I overcome this issue?
I followed these steps and I get the hack thanks for sharing this vide
I want to have one as I am a photographer without having own camera.
thank you!! This was super helpful!
