In my limited experience with the demo version, it is usually best to pay defensive and try to shoot down as many nukes targetting you as possibe, then go on the offensive once the enemy is spent. Ideally try to eliminate their silos with subs and bombers when they start launching, as payer with no silos is pretty much defenceless against your ICBMs
In my limited experience in game, I was luckily playing with other newbies. Manages to barely take any loss to myself, tricking them into war with eachother, while making them ally with me, and then swooping in with the classic “oh my bombers are just passing over your airspace don’t worry” and then launching the nuke trick. Depending on what score mode is being used, either I attack their silos and other military buildings to destroy as many of their nukes as possible, or in genocide mode, I try to destroy as many of their cities in the exact same moment as possible. Have to make sure I leave the alliance a nanosecond before the nukes hit though, or I also lose points for collateral
About forty years before this match: "There was a nuclear war. A few years from now, all this, this whole place, everything, it’s gone. Just gone. There were survivors. Here, there. Nobody even knew who started it. It was the machines, Sarah. ... Defense network computers. New… powerful… hooked into everything, trusted to run it all. They say it got smart, a new order of intelligence. Then it saw all people as a threat, not just the ones on the other side. Decided our fate in a microsecond: extermination."
My Friends Call me Coach well this game is made to make people sad the sad music and the fact that your killing millions is very sad and makes people depressed
Justin Glowala I guess. It's really more about the minimalistic aspect tho. The people who would make these decisions aren't looking at it emotionally, but strategically. So they tried to make the it realistic but also added the subtle depressing mood.
South Africa developed and tested a nuclear bomb over the Indian Ocean in 1984. They are the only country to have gained and then given up the capability. Well after the recent heated confrontation with China and USA with Taiwan s independence I can't guarantee anymore if we would keep the peace let's just pray to God for peace and safety
Yep. Truth be told, even if nukes fell in real life, the fight would continue far past them. Infact, Russia has back up nukes in their submarines with rations to survive a year before launching nukes. This could mean a second wave, or holding the west hostage after the initial nuclear war. But either way it’s thankfully improbable for a nuclear war to start; despite nukes being a mass murder device, it’s brought unprecedented peace
I like to think it is the few pilots in the air flying high in the atmosphere, they took off, watched the silos launch, missiles rising, all they could see when looking through their cockpit was a sea of them passing over, sealing their homes, their family's fate. Later on, flashes, the earth turning to a last bright light before darkness ensues. These pilots, they lost everything. Remnants of an old world. Their only wish now is for revenge on the enemy, on the people who they think pushed the button first, even though they were ordered to launch too in the first place. Fighting until the end for nothing is waiting for them. No salvation. Only them and the deafening silence ordered by faceless men, never to be remembered.
Eh nah, unfortunately just a solid screen saying emergency broadcast, please wait for a soldier to arrive to your door to escort you to a fallout shelter (if your country still has those) or you’ll be advised to hide in your basement
288.1 million deaths in total. A real nuclear war would have deaths in the billions. However terrifying this game is, this is still a stubbornly optimistic best case scenario. So sleep well tonight.
Nukes wouldn't be able to kill everyone, even in a continent as dense as Europe has too many hills, small towns, and potential survivors to completely obliterate a population. In fact, it's not the bombing itself that makes nuclear war so horrible. It's the billions of people left alive afterwards that have to face a world where the modern economy, major urban centers, and government power has been destroyed within minutes.

we've known that for decades. Yet we can't disarm unless the other side also disarms. And we can't come off the hair trigger because then we can't respond in time if the other side launches. Personally I want all players to sit down and agree to get rid of all warheads, once and for all.
@@neutrino78xno. As terrifying as nukes are, they kept the peace and still are. There’s a reason why WW3 didn’t happen soon after WW2. Despite the nuke being a weapon of mass murder, it has ironically brought an unprecedented period of peace for man-kind
@@GamerGod-fp1tj "no. As terrifying as nukes are, they kept the peace and still are. " As a Trident submarine veteran, I don't disagree. But it's not morally right for the world to live under that sword of Damocles. If I could get all five powers to the table and agree to disarm simultaneously, I would. And of course that's common sense and official policy, and that's why we keep having arms summits, and we've reduced the stockpiles by a huge amount. Hopefully someday we can negotiate it down to zero.
The entire earth would undergo a nuclear winter from so many bombs, so much debris would block out the sun . Fallout would cast the earth 10 times wrapping it in a radioactive blanket of death. Earth would be as desolate as mars. Or perhaps some smaller more resilient organisms would survive, but I don't know.

'I tell you what' in the style of hank hill.
MainForcePatrolKZ
Aaah, gotcha.
About a billion of us would wish it did not have to be this way.
Specially depressing at 4:42
4:21: thats not so bad .. less dead than ww2 right?
4:30 : oh
This one made me laugh
At that point it went from an international nuclear hurdling competition to a full on apocalypse
A few strikes surpassed the death toll of ww2
About forty years before this match:
"There was a nuclear war.
The scary thing about DEFCON is that it’s not machines running everything, the player pushes the buttons
This is the first video I saw where they don't just cut it as soon as the game is over and you can actually hear the silence and see the aftermath
This is depressing
The me about it
+ricochet188 Why? It's a strategy game.
My Friends Call me Coach Yeah. All that combined makes it fuckoff depressing
Who the hell gave Africa nuclear bombs!!??!!
The Illuminati
South Africa developed and tested a nuclear bomb over the Indian Ocean in 1984. They are the only country to have gained and then given up the capability. The Nationlist Apartheid government got rid of the system just before power was handed over to the ANC in 1994 when Nelson Mandela came to power.
My eyebrows went up when I noticed Africa with those bombs lol .
***** Obama
Yodrizzle Mashizzle possible that obama did
Australia is just like: aight m8 what's appening in oter countries ay?
It's scary because the possibility of something like this happening is very real.
And your goddamn right
Not really. Despite nukes being a weapon of war, they have brought unprecedented peace
@GamerGod-fp1tj "Eventually the stockpiles got so big, and the weapons became so unimaginably *monstrous* that neither side could actually envision using them." -Dr. Primrose, SCP-6001
Nah,this ain't no 1945.
The only winning move is not to play.
Adam Langfelder How about a nice game of CHESS? lol ;-)
Adam Langfelder Nuclear War = Earth Loses.
+Xurreal Australia wins.
OY! TOO RIGHT MATE! CROCKER!
CROCKER! CROCKER!
I don't even know what that means...
Hmph.
Back to watching the Fireworks.
@@Commodore22345 I dunno, actually. No other extinction event has caused parts of the Earth to become radiated hellscapes. Maybe some creatures would live, but evolution would be set back eons.
@@Commodore22345 Yeah, that's true. It would be a setback, but the Earth would recover, unlike humans.
Love this game it is the first ever strategic horror game absolutely terrifying
That the interface is so cold makes it more poignant, this is how cold and lifeless it is to render the world cold and lifeless. Each detonation is megadeaths.
1:37 ''Launch detection, we have a soviet launch detection!"
Confidence is high I repeat confidence is high!
Meanwhile Australia is down there going "WTF, mate?"
But I'm le tired.
“Some people just like to watch the world burn.”
4:30: when you see that the Silos tarts to change Icons, you know that some serius shit is about to happen
5:16
Imagine standing in front of a screen in front of a strategic command center somewhere.
Stunned silence fills the room. Hundreds of personnel in the bunker, all seeing what you see, but nobody says a word.
And then a single voice breaks the silence.
"It's over. It's fucking over."
You bow your head and close your eyes. You feel everyone's eyes lasting upon your back, awaiting your reaction.
"...for all of us" you whisper huskily, while a single tear, silver gleaming and burning for a billion souls, rolls out of your eye...
4:49 nobody wins
I feel bad for Europe
jack lind what Europe?
You mean the many holes in the ground?
The Silver Wolf that’s the one
@@thesilverwolf4627 you mean that glowing sea over there?
note that the UK and France have their own independent warheads (although they are allies of the USA and we work together).
I would really like it if this never happens in real life.
johnathan sena it may, we are currently in DEFCON 3
+Pleiades Co. we are not In a fucking defcon
wrong, "defcon" doesn't mean war, defcon 5 for example means total tranquility.
the defcon system does exist and is in place the closest we ever came was defcon 2. all millitary forces we're ready to be mobilized, missiles ready to launch on detection and all our bombers we're armed and in the air
Well after the recent heated confrontation with China and USA with Taiwan s independence I can't guarantee anymore if we would keep the peace let's just pray to God for peace and safety
>africa
>nukes
lets be real here.
South Africa was speculated to have nuclear weapons
Gen. Tullius not speculated they did actually have nuclear weapons...
Not to mention that there's nothing worth wasting nukes on there
I always imagined it would be Russia/US/China/etc having their own weapons stationed there.
Wakanda is da powah!
Even after all the missiles have flown, they’re still fighting. War really never changes, does it?
My father introduced me to this game.
Thanks pops, you have great taste
Its so creepy because sometimes you can hear the distant rumbling of bombs landing...
You know that sooner or later you’ll be watching a video of this kind on every screen around you.
That's just the figure for the people who died in the first 24 hours.
The radiation will finish off most of the rest of the species.
To be fair, there are only 600 million people too: 100 million per person. So 48% of the worlds population was destroyed in about an hour or two.
China shot down almost all nukes, india did too so makes sense
@@meteorknight999 still 1 billion in europe. Death rate too low
I remember the first time it asked me to launch a nuke at a city, and the population popped up. I froze and thought about it. Felt so real.
This game makes me sad.
BoBu aren't we currently in DEFCON 3?
Pleiades Co.
People who say that forget that most world leaders aren't stupid.
for me it looks like they are more then stupid, they are dangerous psychopaths !!
And such games make me sad too, because its to low the minds of the peoples, that this all is not sooo dangerous, but ist deathly for us all. Why the so called elite build already finish cities deep under earth ??? They this they can go there and stay save in and after such a war you play as game. but after such a war, nothing remains like it was before and for how many years allover would be poisoned .
Think please and do not support such sick mind fuck games
@Necrosis but you know who create such "games" and the reason why (to make the children, the youths ready for THERE wars) . I mean we the people should answer with peace and not welcome war in any way, because we will and would be the loser of the "real game". But yes, to understand, it need a open mind...
@@nmp8674 should be defcon 5. Although I don't have need to know anymore and if I still did I couldn't say what the defcon is.
Defcon 3 is where things pick up. Defcon 1... nothing survives Defcon 1.
Except for 52% of the humans.
"Victory timer started" What victory? Setting back or utterly annihilating your fellow man, for what gain? Power, prestige, oil or other resources? I view this game as a warning. Nobody wins in nuclear war
But someone loses the least
The last nation standing is the winner. If there is still a nation.
we've known that for decades.
@@GamerGod-fp1tj
"no. As terrifying as nukes are, they kept the peace and still are. "
As a Trident submarine veteran, I don't disagree.
6:22 the low rumble of the bombs and the music just sends a chill i cant explain
4:44 one of the most chilling moments in all of gaming
Living in Greenland must be fascinating in such event
Fatin Marwat maybe Australia. Just maybe
Sam Johnson No. Wind exists. It would blow the fallout straight into your face.
Greenland is a protectorate of Denmark, which is a member of NATO. At the very least I would expect Thule USAF Base to be hit.
Lightman: "Is this a game or is it real?"
Joshua: "WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?"
This is one of the most terrifying and disturbing games I have ever seen.
does anyone realize how the music just, dies at 8:15 when the game ends, spooky shit.
and the fact that the video hovers on all of latin america because it supposedly won and you see cities with casualties that go from half to nearly all of it's citizens dead definitely does not help.
"Well Putin, nice game. Too bad you were able to nuke my town!"
"Wait... I didn't open Civilization yet... oh, I think I used the wrong app Joe!"
The most chilling part is when it says “VICTORY TO PLAYER 3” but the big red “GAME OVER” lingers on the screen 😟
A strange game.
The only winning move is not to play.
like real war
Everyone is a loser in war.
***** all participants in war are losers
Hello... Joshua...
johnmccnj Oh my god, someone finally got the reference!
i like how every single alliance launched missiles at europe
The end of the world started when defcon 1 appeared
I also find it funny that the USA and Russia had so few launch points. There were 2 right up the street from my house that they filled in with concrete in the 70's. There's thousands.
Almost a decade late, but this is because the game wants to balance all sides
when I was in middle school, the first silo in a string of 10 minute mans was a short bike ride outside town...duck and cover...
my a$$..
literally my class with when there is no teacher 4:53
“You cannot win a nuclear war!” -Threads, 1984.
I really like when games create creepy and uneasy atmosphere instead of just making "scary" monsters jumpscare you.
When you stop the video but the warning sound still can be heard
5:40 Fallout 4 music plays 'And so in 2077, the great war began. It only lasted 2 hours'
When this video is recommended by youtube 30 minutes after iran shoots missles at US soldiers...
Yeah, that one was a close call
We about to role-play this game soon
"Strange game. The only winning move is not to play."
The sad thing?
That woman coughing you can hear?- That's mother earth dying as the war wages on.
4:35. This is the way the world ends.
This is the way the world ends.
This is the way the world ends.
Not with a bang but a whimper.
I think I'd rather die in the initial exchange than live through the hellish aftermath of a nuclear winter.
5:30 OMG the scale of firepower use...
old man: CRUMBS! this is it darling!
wife: Percy! The cake will be burned!!
( when blows is a perfect example of what will happen during a nucular war)
Defcon 1 goes up, CPU player 3:guess i shoot
I love how player 3 (the yellow one) did not hesitate a second to launch all of their submarine nukes
DEFCON 2 - basically the same as 3, except everyone knows what comes next
damn.
This game should be remastered to become more atmospheric and highly detailed
The lack of detail I think is what gives it this type of atmosphere. Its already perfect.
well you might consider trying defcon inspired and less dramatic game called ICBM (its fun)
I think a remake with more features putting more emphasis on the original idea would be great!
That game over screen gets me. No flashy lights or excited sounds to say you win or loose. It feels like it’s asking you more than telling you that it’s over and you won. Just an Erie silence with the sounds of the final wreckage and ashes burning away in the distance. You may have won the game, but nobody truly won here.
In another universe this did happen... that’s a scary thought
And awfully depressing.
This universe is next.
*theoretically.
