    Pretty decent 8 horse engine you have there, I have a 1978 Briggs 10 HP synchro balanced engine on my old Pincor 4500 watt generator I bought off a guy for $25. I rebuilt the carb on it, been trying to dial in the rpms and get it to run right, the governor keeps jerking the throttle while it's running.

      Thanks, i just got it this summer. Plan to rebuild it eventually. Sounds like the governor may just need to be adjusted or its running to lean. Thanks for Watching!!!

      Thanks! Yeah it definitely has potential, runs good and has really good compression, just smokes. Thanks for Watching!

    Is there a electric starter kit for the 8hp flathead briggs and stratton? I have one on a gold dredge. Great video thank-you

    Can you put a techumseh carb on one of these and do a video of it running ? Would like to see that thank you .

    On same engine 8 hsp you showed.....what would you do to get gas to spark so it will turn over. I've cleaned carb twice and set float bowl level. Pulled and cleaned jets but don't know the settings

    I like the old Briggs whine/whistle/whatever it is. Blowert sucking air I guess. Got a 10 horse like that in the 5K generator but that thing will yank your shoulder out of place so I put electric start on it. Didn't have the bosses to mount an armature so I just bolted a ring gear (you could still order them but not the multi-magnet flywheel) to the flywheel and when it's running just hook a battery charger to the 110 and there you go. I put a throttle on it so it can warm up instead of being hammered from the get-go. The governor adjust knob on yours can be pushed in against the spring and lifted up (I think) and then pulled out for idle. Just one of them secret things. Keep on picking and I'm ready for a snow dance tune!

      I know what your talking about, its more noticeable on video. I hear ya! yeah this thing has super good compression! I wish it didn't smoke, other then that its a great motor. I hear ya! That is a good idea on the throttle, i never did like to start a engine running full throttle. Yeah, my 5HP generator that i've been working on (video of course!) is like that. oh no, don't mention snow yet haha Thanks for Watching!

      Maybe with some good oil it might clean up inside and quit smogging, you never know. I've had some puffers quit after some time with the series-3. But maybe it needs a cup or two of rings and a good honing. Can't beat the I/C L-heads. Thanks, Pal!

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  5 лет назад

      I thought about trying it, the oil in it is pretty dirty. Might try it and see what it does, can't do no harm. I know right, i think they are the best!

      You got nothing to loose. I always had to have a load on mine to get everything working and slopping around and warmed up but it worked unless it was my wifes Craftsman 11 horse 'L' head and it still smokes but not a whole lot. And it still fires right up and it's 35+ years old. 38 inch cut with a 5 speed instead of the 6. Still looks like an Indy race when she gets going. Take care, Picker!

    Briggs make a seal kit for that type of carb. Part # 391413. Has roll pins and Teflon washers to put inside of the main needle where it seats to stop the leaks. Thanks for the video's.

      I need to see if this one is missing or broke. I want to put the original carb on it, but haven't time to check it out to see what it needs yet. Your welcome, Thanks for Watching!

    Hi there, I got one for free recently, trying to make it start at least... So the sequence is I close the choke close to airfilter, but should I close or open carb choke to start? Tried to pour some gas into air intake - didnt work. However there is a spark. Its been sitting since autumn, does it make sense to take off the carburator? Whats unusual for me is that theres no primer like I got used to on newer engines. Still really want to make it run. Thank you!

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  4 года назад

      Most of the time you will close the choke to start the engine then open it, you may need to clean the carburetor, and make sure it has compression it could have a stuck valve if its not hitting at all. thanks for watching!!!

      @@fnaguitarplayer9 I managed to start it. Actually I felt the electric charge with finger (not professional, I know) when I cranked, so I thought its fuel issue. However it was weak. Then I disconnected the wire near the governor and cranked again, and it was a good charge! However the carb was leaking when cranking, and running super reach not depending on the tune. What I didnt pay much attention to from the very beginning is when I separated 2 parts of carb, a littlet hin piece if gasket stayed on the lower part, and I just cleaned it off, so I think that the bowl is not sealed good enough from the diffusor, and the engine just sucks in too much fuel because of it. Will try gasket sealant, however I dont have much hope, I think I need new gasket, but I will give it a try... Thank you for your advice!

    What is the thumb nut for that connects to, what I think, is the throttle linkage?? Being a genny I assume it's to keep it at full throttle ?

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  4 года назад

      Yes, it does connect to the throttle linkage/governor spring. It is to tune the full throttle speed so the rpm is at 3600 rpm so the generator is putting out 60 hertz and proper voltage. Thanks for Watching!!!
